Thanks for inviting us to see a glimpse of those phenomenal art exhibitions. I really have to agree when you conclude, "from admiration to experiment", it's truly inspiring art journey. Can't wait to see what you will make next time!
It's a very common thing though... For the most basic application, whenever you see spot highlights on a book cover, those are UV printing. What's shown in this video is a related technology of that called digital UV printing, which uses a printer rather than a silk screen.
@@FlameRat_YehLonyea I was surprised ppl don’t know UV printing, but I had no idea the creative application artist had done using this type of technology
@@Sirawxy It probably wouldn't be hard for an artist to think of how to make use of it. Issue is that those are usually very heavy (for being an industrial machine) and not very cheap (for not having a huge enough market), and maintainence is an issue, especially those white inks because white pigment tends to separate out of the ink. It's reasonable that creative applications isn't done much, despite a lot of artists might already realize that it's possible.
UV is just a curing method and it have been widely used in both digital and conventional printing method. They call it UV printing but in fact it just inkjet printer
@@keita9603 Not exactly. UV can be screen printed or offset (press) printed, not just inkjet printed. Those are all UV printing, just with different detail quality and ink thinkness.
This new technique brings a whole new idea to art tbh, with printing you would also be doing art. Quite fascinating Also the ones with the action lines effect look so fire ngl that was smart of you
I had the chance to go to Taiki sensei's exhibition and it was truly incredible. The pieces really "popped" out of their canvases, and I remember standing in front of each piece, wow-struck. I went to the exhibition on the third day, and some of the pieces were already sold out (and they cost anywhere from 220,000 yen to 1,000,000 yen a piece...)! I also had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Shimada, the manager of the SSS group, and from the conversation, he confirmed that the printers "prints" more ink at certain areas, however this process is seemingly done by a separate person alongside Taiki's approval.
Thank for the explanation! So you still have to do some extra work after the print? Also could you recommend a company where I can print my own art in a similiar style?
@@chiko7547 I'm not sure about the details of the process, however a famous company that does this type of printing is a Japanese company called flatlabo. If you are interested in getting your works printed, consider contacting them! However, from what I can tell, I don't think the prices will be cheap.

Seeing the work of these artists literally made me cry. I have seen their work on twitter already, but it looks very different in here, very engulfing! Your editing is also super immaculate!
TPPO you are unironically one of my favorite youtube artists and teachers, and I've been watching since the beginning. I just want you to know that you introduce me to new techniques all the time and your eagerness to learn really mirrors my own. Thank you for always introducing new concepts and deeply exploring the concepts yourself before making an indepth youtube video on them! I really want to try UV printing myself one day.
Taiki is AMAZING I always wanted to know how he managed to recreate his digital works on canvas and you just posted this video !! I wouldn't want anything more then for you to keep uploading and not leaving UA-cam !!
Im so glad i found this channel a couple of weeks ago, I've learnt so much and discovered so many interesting things here, thank you for sharing this with us!
Loved the concept of UV printing, really want to try that with my own art. Did you purchase the printer yourself or did you use a company for that? Would love to see if I can have my own machine for my art shop
I used a UV printer at a school's print store! I didn't really look into this, but I think there's a lot of UV printing services out there. But what might be more important is finding the right paper for your art!
At the start of the video, I immediately recognize Yoneyama Mai pieces. She's so talented. There is a MV by Eve that animated by her called "YOKU". It's also used as an ad for cosmetic products.
Makes me wonder about the possibility of doing my own print-style-art, especially since there's this much experimentation you can do. Thank you for showing us about it.
saw this first hand in Singapore during art week back in January beautiful works of Taiki & Sevnzel they also had other types of prints like MCA (Metal Canvas Art) and embroidery sublimation print
Wow! I had no idea this was a thing, but it makes so much sense! Fascinating for sure - I can only imagine getting to see this technique used in so many different ways at that exhibition. Thanks for sharing!
why did i learn so much more from this video than my printing class like whatttt the hellllll its insane, a 6 minute life changing video for a graphic designer THANK YOU
THAT IS SO COOL! I had no idea that UV printing was even a thing, how accessible is it? Is really amazing to see how different artist use thesame tool and also all the different kind of ways someone could use it! Thanks for the video man
ohohohoho i found so many wonderful artists and discovered a beautiful way to make beautiful art even better ^_^ i was so amazed and hooked on every moment of their physically-rendered dogital art...... hurhrgrhr
Well, now I'd really hope texture printing being a standard order option. Currently it's limited to one layer per type of ink which might be a limiting factor, but I guess it's already plenty challenging to make good design out of it. And to my experience, adapting existing digital art to use more layers doesn't really work that well, and can lose quite some potential. It kinda have to be done right from the beginning, which makes art that's practically incomplete on computer but really shines when printed out. For example, I painted fur on gloss finish and (cutting out) white ink only, which gives some really interesting result while retaining a cartoon look.
I gasped, I remember in high school always being discouraged from doing anything inspired by anime or manga, this applied only to manga or anime (even if the thing I was making wasn't actively inspired???) To see beautiful anime artwork in a gallery is mindblowing because of the fact that I had been made to believe that this kind of art could never, EVER be in a gallery. In fact, outside of the superflat art movement I wasn't sure. While this is in Japan which is the home of anime seeing that was still such a pleasant surprise.
I work with 2 Cannon Colorado UV printers. They use a UV gel instead of a more traditional ink. And yea, UV printing is pretty nutty, In a single pass its somehow able to create both matte and gloss finishes on the print.
Seeing my job talked about like its incredible is great tbh, lmao. I'm a large format printer and I worked with UV, though not the textured kind. I wish we had gotten into that.
mika pikazo is such a good artist, i saw her art works in Instagram and i was so amazed, seeing her works in physical form is something i never realized I'd want to see myself
Funny that you've mentioned "ice cubes?" as one of the materials you listed for UV printing. When I was working at a uni, one material we had to figure out how to print on was a slab of ice. We made a pink foam insulation carrier for the flatbed UV printer and managed to print on the ice. Needless to say, it was scuffed AF.
It's really admirable how they don't use experimentation as an excuse to throw out aesthetics, but instead as way to enhance what they already know looks good. It's the opposite of Picasso.
@@fakename287Might be a hot take, but I wasn’t ever a big fan of Picasso’s abstract style. He was talented for sure and could do a more traditional style of art if he wanted to.
