    Thank you for helping the little bird. He had a bad concussion. Hold him in your hand for a couple minutes. If he flies away, great. If not, offer nectar. The best way to do that is with a syringe with no needle or use a spoon. The bird will flick its tongue into a syringe. Don’t push down on the plunger. Don’t put the bird in a high place like a tree. Hold him in your hand until he feels better. Never pull a hummingbird off it’s perch. You can rip his talons off.

    Hi Sam, just watched the wee Hummer rescue. We do not have any hummingbirds in the UK. We can purchase stickers for our windows to prevent our small birds, sparrows, blue tits etc from striking the window pane, really prevents accidents. Glass to birds looks like open air until it is too late. Just so nice to watch your channel, Crockers recommended we watch you 😊. You are all so caring , even your wee son. A family who really care for their animals, who want only the best. Hope Poppy and Millie will be ok after their meds, just watched that video before this

    I just went out and bought a glass hummingbird feeder. Find it strange they make all of them out of red plastic. Vets will tell you not to feed your pets out of red plastic bowls yet they still make hummingbird feeders out of it. They really don't need to be red. We try to put them in the shade but likely at one point the sun hits them a bit. Just food for thought because I just changed mine.

    Actually the clear stuff at Walmart in the hummingbird stuff it's good and it hydrates them, the nice thing about it is it doesn't go bad as quick as the sugar water does, no boiling, mix with purified water in jug put it in feeder and store the rest in the fridge, till next feed. I've been using it for 2yrs. and no problems. The sugar water worries me a little cause of the heat of summer even in shade, it gets moldy so fast, this stuff you can go a week!!!! Try it please and it's got vitamins in it for them as well, easier prep and faster. ☀️😇

    Good job! I had a good-sized grey hawk knock himself out when he hit one of my windows. I left him on the ground. I kept checking out the window to keep him/ her safe without frightening him. That lasted about 1 1/2 hours. Finally he gathered himself together and flew away. He still did not look happy though.

    Good intentions, but the poor thing needs rest, quiet & less handling! How terrifying to constantly be squeezed, so much movement, too many humans & noise! When I’ve had too much booze, don’t touch me, leave me alone to rest, don’t feed me; when I regain strength, give me water & feed me. I’m sure that’s how those poor things feel. And yes, those beautiful windows are reflecting those beautiful trees. Birds don’t know what glass is-until too late. I have one too many crashes here & found dead birds on ground. I researched & found window dots that will help. Please do this & prevent bird accidents. God bless you!

    • @junodacres
      @junodacres  Рік тому

      We’ve put stickers on the windows. As for handling the hummingbird, he certainly would have died if we wouldn’t have intervened. Our good intentions allowed him to recover and survive. Thank you though for your concern.

  • @ildiko1vt
    @ildiko1vt Рік тому +1

    When birds hit windows, the first step is to place them in a paper box (with holes in it for air) paper towel or newspaper at the bottom, and leave them in there for at least an hour to recoup. If they start fluttering inside the box, it means they are strong enough to be let out. Handling a bird traumatizes them, regardless of our good intent. According to wild aviary recommendations, we do not feed or force drink birds after an injury but leave them alone in a quiet place. I know you meant well, and I am glad that you did made the difference for the little critter.

    Right away give a hummingbird sugar water. When they're like this they need it badly. If all you have is a cup just mix the water and sugar ,half of each and just put their beak near it while you're holding it, give it a second and it should start to drink. Don't waste any time doing this.

    Have you ever watched Robbie n Gary gardening UA-cam channel? She has 1000’s of hummingbirds! All kinds if tips n tricks! I have always heard to make sure that the feeders are hung high up and always in the shade because it spoils the nectar much more quickly. I hang mine up pretty high in the trees! Also, the feeders you have you I have also and have made the holes a little bigger with a soldering tool. I also cover the plastic part with aluminum foil to reflect heat. I started with only a few about 4 years ago and now have 100’s that come back every single year, have there babies and return! Please make sure your nectar is always fresh n clean as well as the feeders themselves, otherwise you are killing the birds. If you don’t have the time to take care of them then you shouldn’t be hanging feeder’s just for your enjoyment! It’s a lot of time and work. I use the sponge bottle brush too clean the feeders and a straw cleaner to feed the ports at least every 3 days!

    I have had to rescue before and I put a feeder in a hospital pan and leave on my porch and continue to check on and then once he has energy he can fly off. I usually have to rehab at least 1-3 every year. Dog kennel not very safe due to it getting caught between wire. Box or something like that so they can fly after they rest
