    This is a popular single-story home design we pour a lot of concrete floors for in Maine. It seems like a lot of people want to live on one floor with no stairs to walk up and down.
    The design of this house is just that, one floor that's 60 feet by 40 feet with a 3-car garage and a front patio slab.
    We pour a lot of these types of concrete floors with the plumbing under the concrete, protruding up through the floor. Most of these single-story homes also have radiant heat tubes installed in the floor for heating.
    This job has a frost wall foundation so the concrete walls go down into the ground about 4 feet so if the ground freezes it doesn't heave the home.
    Learn about how to pour concrete floors like this one in The Concrete Underground, link is below!

    I wonder if Portland Concrete was developed in Portland Maine, The harsh winter weather there would be a great testing ground for different concrete products

    Mike...
    I want a pea gravel aggregate exposed concrete floor. (I'll coat it later with a tinted epoxy). I heard of using coke a cola to neutralize the cream on top, then.. the cream can then be washed off with water from a hose.
    Question: have you ever done this coke floor and what are your thoughts

    How hard is it to not cut the radiant heat pipes when you do a saw cut ?

    • @MikeDayConcrete

      I've only ever cut one in 40 years, and that was because the sub-grade was really bad it had risen up in that one area.

    How much are you guys paying for concrete material? I got a quote for 36 yards 3000psi standard mix delivered with tax and everything they want about $185 per yard. Is that crazy?

    I hope that the kid stays working with you. Need more experienced people in the trades.

    Could you discuss in a future video about the difference between doing a "top of wall" slab and when the foundation company cuts a key into the top of the wall for the slab to lay into?

    I haven't seen you use a float pan at all, I usually hit it with a float pan in the winter time to open it up to get things dying faster or more even, say one load was lagging due to a gap in trucks or one was a little wetrer than the other. Even with accelerator I do that. Or if there is an area that needs some flattening around pipes ect.

    Do you have any I d ea how much concrete in a year?

  • @markhorton9020
    @markhorton9020 6 місяців тому

    Do you have a charge per penetration thru the concrete surface? seems like you could not charge the same sq ft price due to all the additional labor.

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  6 місяців тому

      That's a good idea, I might start charging for that. Thanks

    The ground doesn’t unthaw. It unfreezes. Thawing is unfreezing.

    • @andrewrohde2373
      @andrewrohde2373 6 місяців тому

      Exactly right. As I understand it, there are two words -- freeze and thaw. There is no "unthaw." But Mike, pay no attention to the pedantry, still like your channel!
