Brother you are a rock star! There is very little out there to teach folks how to do a proper shower seat- especially such an effective, innovative one. I finally have a solution that won't keep me up at night worrying! Thank you for the perfect explanation and execution. And thank you for sharing your talent- there are a lot of us out here who are eternally grateful to people like you!

Like a boss! I was about to frame in a seat using 2X4 pressure treated, but this is clearly a superior construction. Thanks man!

Dude, you are a tile WIZARD! Other tile guys need to take lessons from you. I really like your techniques. You always take your time to do a job (THE RIGHT WAY), so it's done right.

Good work! Only thing I would do different is use a one piece to for bench . Water penetrates grout especially when it flat like on a bench. Use a single piece of quartz or granite.

I liked the idea of using cinder blocks. How did you make the small triangle corner seat? And which type of material did you use for the corner seat.? Also did you just thin-set the pieces to the wall? By the way, great job on the bench. Matt

Beautiful work!!! Towards the mid-end of the vid, when you were pointing out the importance of installing the benchtop tile first before the wall tile so that the wall tike came down on top of it, for smooth water flow, I was wondering if your benchtop tile would then sit atop the vertical tile that would be under the knees and behind calves while sitting. But of course, we learned that you terminated that corner with "rope tile" and I wonder if that 'long' grout line could be an issue for water?

Tile Master your video of the shower bench was great , much better than using wood like I was about to use . Now I have a preformed shower mold can I put concrete block on that as well

You could also use speed slope for your bench.

I like the technique of using a semi-solid base for the bench. I have a question... could this technique be used with a cast iron shower base? IOW, the base is already finished with a porcelain type surface. Would the thinset bond to the non porous surface? In our case, we're using a piece of quartz that matches the vanity counter top for the seat.

Hi, for walls i am only using 1/2" dens-guard
1/4" is good for floors only.
    I hope that it helps.

I love your work! I want to design my shower exactly the way you did this one. I love how its all open. Can you send me a link to building the walls around the outside of the shower? Specifically one that connects to a bathtub like the one in this video please

I want to add a bench to my already existing tiled shower. I understand that the wall time should be on top of the seat tile. If I added a bench I couldn't do that. Should I use a grinder to make existing tiled grooved before adding cinder block?

Well, standard high for shower seat is 16-18" - it is usually measure to costumers knee! High that I am building is perfect - everybody love it !!
However, if you like it taller you can always add additional layers of cement board on top, or ad another cement block - 4/8/16 or 2/8/16 Yes, this blocks comes in thinner sizes.
I hope that it answers your question - thank you for watching and do not forget to check my other shower videos

Wow this is truly nice work. I know you said don't worry about the weight of the blocks, but what about on the second floor, where there are only floor joists running parallel 16 inches apart? I think my load would be distributed across maybe 2 or 3 joists, is that ok? I can't add any cross supports as all the plumbing is there.

This is great! How did you make the low wall to the right? Could you use the cinder block to make an enclosure wall? I'm trying to make an enclosure wall that only goes up 3' with a glass pane on top.

Nice job bud, thanks for the great advice. You didn't mention what you do if you have an end of the bench open. I'm guessing you'd just use a piece of durock? What did you use on the joints on the densguard? Tape and then caulk? What do you think about caulk and then redguard? If you use caulk, is tape really needed?

How the blocks stay close to back wall when the floor(cement) is slop towards drain?Did you add extra thinset underneath ?

I'm wondering if you need to fill in the holes in the cinder blocks with the mortar mix?? I really liked your video & I wished you worked in the Birmingham AL area. I'm in the process of taking estimates to redo our shower...and I'm insisting on someone who is willing to do the shower bench this way.

I'm gettng close to tiling as I rebuild our mstr bath and my lovely wife says, "Oh, you decided not to build a shower bench? Well, ok". The truths is she decided not to do a bench when we agreed on this build, but seems to have forgotten. That's another story, but I'd like to surprise her with a bench anyway.
Is there a way for me to build a bench at this point without taking down anything I've already done?
I already have my pre-slope, rubber liner and backer boards installed in my 3x5 shower., 2nd floor I'm cutting shelves and just about ready to do the final slope. Due to 15 years of water damage from a previous owner and missing flashing outside, I also reinforced the joists under the floor when I repaired that mess. Even still, cinder blocks might be a bit much. I defer to your better judgement.
Thanks for any suggestions. You're videos have helped me take down and put together this bathroom so far. You do a good thing for people by making these videos.
    -Steve

Steve, if you will do it my way you will be fine. As you can see I am building bench on top of cement bas and with boards in place. Even if you have tiles already on the wall you can still add bench like that. Please watch entire video and you will figure correct way to do it.
      Good luck.

TileMasterGa Hey! My bench came out pretty nice. I haven't grouted yet, but I'll post a pic when I do. I used your method exactly as shown with one minor addition. The cinder blocks weren't sloping correctly even though the cement floor was sloped. I carefully put a number of very small, strong/solid pebbles near the back under the blocks to help keep them sloped while things dry. Yes, it was real pain when the pebble stuck to my fingers, but once I got it in, I knew the bench would slope properly.
      Thanks for the advice!

@deezynar "water proofing" Well you could use redguard or drylock But theres nothing to protect , and you be holding back water thats needs to weep from behind wall board if you water proofed the bottom.
