your advice about learning the pentatonic scale was so good ! So many other instructors online seem to move to fast ..Your advice learn one position and play with it before advancing to the next position ...thanks for excellent advice . Thanks for moving slow in your instructions ...
After all this time the light just came on for me! By Jove, I think I've got it! I had the same experience trying to learn how to make my guitar squeak with pinch harmonics. One day I did it by accident, then backward engineered it. Thank you for the tutorial and, as an aside, nice axe.
I'm a drummer who is trying to learn the guiutar. I am a very stubborn learner in regards to this instrument. However, this was by far the BEST video that i've watched on pentatonics. Definitely helped !
Good lesson. I see a pattern within a pattern with this. Many of the scale positions have common barred forms leaving you to think mainly about the few notes that are different as you move up the neck.
Brilliant, for me one of the best guitar tutorial channels on UA-cam, really easy going & down to earth and lessons put together in a way that anyone can put in to practice, you taught me to play This Charming Man by the Smiths and I must say I tried a few times from other channels and they didn’t get it quite right yours was bang on the money 👍🏼👍🏼
I used the same thing across the fret board changing the root to G and c, I kind of didn’t like how it sounds on c from 3 fret I hope I was hitting the right notes😅
In the CAGED system- that first pattern you show is actually the G form not E... the second is the E and so on... you are off one pattern on all shapes. The hint is you can actually see the chord shape in the finger charts. Though that may be for the major pentatonics...?
Hi Adrian, I found this incredibly helpful; thank you very much. I'll try to figure out how to blend them together. Will you be/have you done a tutorial on linking the positions/patterns. Thanks again.
Hi Adrian. Great lesson, but I wanted to point out that at 1.41, when you say that the Pattern 1 is based on the E form of the CAGED system, I think you meant to say that it is based on the C form.
Yes, CAGED is an area ripe for confusion! I I call the E form pattern 1, just as it's the most-widely known and used shape. Even though it's the 4th letter in the word CAGED. EDCAG might be a better way of doing it, although that's not a nice, memorable word!
This has been driving me nuts all week. Caged confuses me once it gets to scales. I’m trying to verify how these five patterns relate to CAGED but I really need and fashioned lesson man to man! Or woman either way.
@@malcolmmcatee3752 look again and (for the major pent) you'll see both a G chord shape AND then an E chord (2nd inversion of , with its root on the D string) kind of on the 'other side' of this pattern1, E form pentatonic. Its all quite confusing , for sure. A Quite good way is, on a blank guitar sheet, to draw/plot out the shape do it as major pentatonic first, then overlay the minor pentatonic scales notes that are unique to it (eg the b3 4th and b7) then for good measure plot out where the b5's and you've got the major, minor and blues scale shapes overlaid , and across all its 5 forms - job done !
Hey Im a big fan of your channel! I just watched your video on how to play "Gimme Danger" by The Stooges and I was wondering if you could do a video on how to play your pretty face is going to hell? Thanks very much :)
I wish the diagram wasn't upside down and reversed. I was practicing it backwards. And as a lefty, its almost impossible to follow. Why not have the base strings at least at the top?
The diagram is the correct way around, it’s supposed to be like that because that’s how you look at your fretboard from above the guitar, I know it can be awkward when you 1st start, I remember buying an Oasis song book when I 1st started learning and couldn’t figure out why everything I was playing sounded completely off 🤦🏻♂️ it was for that same reason lol All guitar Tab books are written like it High E is always on the top line and Low E is always on the bottom
so basically if i was playing an a minor scale in position 1, i can use that same shape and play it in lets say c minor as long as my 6 string root note is C right? if i try to play a b minor scale, my root note needs to be a b flat, anyway my point is that u can play any shape in any key as long as the root note is what key its in this probably sounds confusing because im new to this lmao
Yes, that's it. Move the same shape around and the starting note (root) gives you the name of the scale. Just be careful not to confuse flat with minor, as they're not the same thing. B flat minor starts at 6th fret. B minor at 7th.
Hello Adrian, Been following you for some time and subscribed to your channel a while ago but don't seem to be getting any alerts on new postings. I 'm getting plenty of alerts on other subscriptions so am not sure where the problem lies. I have no idea how UA-cam works but do you have to pay them to send out alerts or is it an automatic process? If it's the latter then something is wrong. All the best, Joe
Hi Joe. Yes, I'm not sure exactly how that works. Maybe someone else here does? I subscribe to quite a few channels and don't seem to get alerts from all of them. Seems very random. Best way to keep up to date with my new postings is probably to go directly to my site, or check social media.
Yes, they're all moveable patterns, so any one shape can be used to play in every key. You just need to make sure you're aligned with the correct root notes for the key you want. A basic knowledge of the notes on the fretboard really helps here.
What a great teacher. Well done-very helpful.

You're my no1 teacher. I am so glad for the lessons from Warren. 😎

Thank you for the tutorial and, as an aside, nice axe.
By far the best and coolest teacher on utube…pure class this fellow
Thanks so much! Now I'm trying to add the blue notes to each scale. Great lesson
I'm a drummer who is trying to learn the guiutar. I am a very stubborn learner in regards to this instrument.
However, this was by far the BEST video that i've watched on pentatonics. Definitely helped !
Brilliant, hope u never stop doing these vids Adrian thanks
Thank You Adrian. You are a wonderful teacher and great guitar player.
I was looking everywhere and found this amazing tutorial finally!!!!
Good lesson. I see a pattern within a pattern with this. Many of the scale positions have common barred forms leaving you to think mainly about the few notes that are different as you move up the neck.
Super helpful! Thanks so much!
THANKS JUSTIN, WELL EXPLAINED, CANT WAIT TO GET STUCK IN AND MAKE SOME MUSIC!
Extremely helpful - thanks! 🎸
Dude, Thanks very much for an informative and useful video. This has helped me a lot.

Great fundamentals. Thanks!
I jump around a lot with these tutorials on y tube . You are the clearest . Can i have your starting point with your lessons on y tube ?
LOVE your channel 🙏
I used the same thing across the fret board changing the root to G and c, I kind of didn’t like how it sounds on c from 3 fret I hope I was hitting the right notes😅
learn one and own it b4 moving on to the next..good advice...dont be a half A..thank you for showing and explaining those five...
This is good for me

It doesn’t get any more straightforward than this!
Hi Adrian, I found this incredibly helpful; thank you very much. I'll try to figure out how to blend them together. Will you be/have you done a tutorial on linking the positions/patterns. Thanks again.
Thank you
💜 thanks
Tks sooooo muchhhhh
Thankyou very much!!❤️
Is pattern 1 position 1 always in that same place on the fret board?

@@acpg I see a G in there

Nice lesson... can you please show the arpegios major minor , 7 ?
what is the name of minor in these 1-5 positions in CAGED?
Is there a rule when to use these patterns? Or can I just use them in a way they sound good?

I noticed also. Confused the crap out of me
Nevermind
The frets you are describing do not match the figure shown. Right?
You, sir, should be Knighted! :)

What would yo say is the next step after you learn the positions
I'd say really get to know them. Work on connecting the shapes together and - most important - make sure you can make music with each of the shapes.
Thanks :-)
So is this standard tuning?

At what age did you started playing guitar??
Duuuude! Your fingers are longer than my..... Drumsticks! You lucky bastard! (Nice lesson though!!l)
Can you please teach I wanna be me by the sex pistols
Am I the only one that prefers position 2? Well, me and BB King
Octopus hands.
I can't understand how one can play theses shapes in other key
