After watching this video I watched your video on the major scales. Wow. These are without a doubt the best videos I’ve ever seen on scales. Thank you so much for everything. I can’t describe how much this has taught me now.
I've been a casual player for over 25 years but could never wrap my head around scales. This video has finally made the concept hit home. I like the table of contents time markers to bring me to the next position. What I found especially helpful in this demonstration was how you bring the scales back down finishing out with the root chord. Thanks for the video. Nice work. Subscribed.
This was great, been searching for "guitar pentatonic scale patterns tab" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Vonizabeth Strumming Magnitude - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got great results with it.
Great Lesson! Totally locked this in for me. Had my minor positions wired already. So the 1st position of Gmajor Pentatonic is the same pattern as Eminor 2nd position and so on....
Thanks for the table of contents at the beginning! Super helpful. I found that a major pentatonic scale fits within a lydian overtone scale and it sounds hilariously awkward to jam with, while a lydian riff repeats for the rhythm track.
Winner of a video, been searching for "guitar scales finger positions" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Vonizabeth Strumming Magnitude - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.
Great sir, now I can really understand between major and minor scales in every shape, thanks for your tutorial video, i hope many guitarist learned more about your videos. More Power and God Bless. Thank You Sir.
I really like your tutorial on the major pentatonic scale. What really helps me the most is the diagrams. Other gurus neglect to put diagrams or a picture of the notes that they're playing. Thanks ! notes
Thank yo so much JJ! You explained this so well I've been trying to learn the Major Pentatonic for days and you really made it so simple for me to understand.
JJ good job on your tutorial, I never comment but I did today, the reason why is I would like to thank you or not blasting into some obnoxious riffs in an attempt to impress everybody. Very refreshing compared to what is typically seen on UA-cam straight to the point great job. PS I actually subscribed which is another thing I really don't do, looking forward to seeing what else you got out there thank you again
FYI When playing the positions and learning them it helps to go up 1 position move to the next and descend in that position... probably the best tip I can give when learning box patterns as after to learn them this way yo will be connecting the patterns across multiple strings with absolutely no thought and have it be essentially instinctual.
Very very helpful sir. The best I have learnt so far about pentatonic scales recently. I don't know if you also have pentatonic blue scale lessons? It will be interesting sir if you do. I want to learn that too
May i ask mr jj im a beginner and for instance i memorize your example gmajor scale with the 5 position does it fit in all music jam track ? Give me some idea and thanks really nice tutorials
So all these positions apply to other keys like A for instance you start at the 6th fret and work your way through the patter n if you wanna play the first pattern ?
JJ, thanks for the great content! I may have had a mind-blowing (for me...) revelation, please confirm if I'm correct or delusional ;-) Here is my question: Instead of learning all 5 Maj Pentatonic scales would I be able to solo using the Minor Pentatonic in the relative minor key to the major key the song is being played in?? For instance, if a song is in A Major, could I just use the F#minor pentatonic scale and be ok?
Having said that, C major scale sounds better for the key of C and A minor scale sounds better for songs in key of A minor. They have the relationship of Major to relative minor. Use the full scale with all 7 notes or the pentatonic scale. Works for both.
Only took me 3 minutes to realize the chart is inverted on both the X and Y axis. Cool. Yes, I am 100% aware that 'high' E is traditionally on top. And that we go left to right, righter => higher frets. It's just also literally the inverse of the visual aid.
Note names are helpful but wouldn't it be more helpful to name scale degree names? I, II, III, V, VI, so when transposing you have a more immediate connection to the note's relationship to the key? So in the minor pentatonic it is I, 3b, 4, 5, 7b. I've only heard about this caged system in the last year. It is a cute learning aid. When I was taught originally I was taught the blues scale (minor pentatonic) and diatonic (do, re, mi...) scale. I then drew a map of the fret board up to the 12th fret. I can't remember now but I probably laid the E blues scale on the map marking each spot on each string up the neck. I probably used the C major scale for the diatonic scale. Then you can mark the three notes of the C major chord on that diatonic scale and see the caged chord shapes moving up the neck. It also helps see what the other scale degrees are and how they relate to the key. In the blues scale you can see all those little box shapes they teach but also see how they relate to each other and to the key. I don't remember it taking me that long to memorize those two patterns but at the time I was just fumbling around with my fingering so I could learn the two things together. Next you can see how the blues scale and diatonic scale are related. After that playing in any key is just a matter of shifting your pattern, keeping an awareness of the root (do) to help anchor the pattern in your mind.
Your lesson was by no means one of the best I’ve seen. However at the very end when you started matching pentatonic scale numbers to the keys for instance the key of a I got a little confused as to what Scale Number went with the keys. Could you please clarify that sometime or another. Thank you
JJ...You're doing a good job showing where to find the notes. But it might be less confusing for some if you show the right pattern for each position. cheers.
Why is position five of the C pentatonic scale around the middle of the guitar? I guess I'm just trying to understand because if one tries to follow the five position like the A major pentatonics scale you run out of strings to play in the guitar if you keep moving horizontally?
All this time I had no idea that position 1 of the major pentatonic was position 2 of the minor pentatonic scale, thanks for the clear explanation!

finally a lightbulb moment for me!! that warm feeling inside! Thanks a bunch!
Thanks. I like your guitar. Great tone. I was SO glad to hear a clean tone and not a distortion noise.
Well done. I will be watching.
Thank you for putting those time markers in the description. Very helpful.
Definitely subscribing. I really enjoy the way you break everything down. You go slow enough that I can understand.
This is exactly what i was looking for .:) thanks
Good god this is the first video I've seen that helped! Thank you so much ! I'll be rewatching quite a few times !

very nice...thank u
Thank you so much Tanis. (Subs)
@13:16 if you start the scale at C (being so high up the fretboard already) at what fret do you restart it back at the beginning of the fretboard?
Apologies , my bad!!! I confused myself Keep up the good work.
May i ask mr jj im a beginner and for instance i memorize your example gmajor scale with the 5 position does it fit in all music jam track ? Give me some idea and thanks really nice tutorials
JJ TANIS,
which guitar solos used the Major Pentatonic licks scale can you make a lesson showing a bunch of examples?
very good sir.
Great.
Great
Does this mean that each Key as its specific pentatonic 5 shapes movable
So all these positions apply to other keys like A for instance you start at the 6th fret and work your way through the patter n if you wanna play the first pattern ?
Finally it
makes sense
JJ, thanks for the great content! Ty yes it is
You are correct. Any relative minor can be found by starting on the 6th note of a major scale. Example, C majors relative minor is A minor.
Having said that, C major scale sounds better for the key of C and A minor scale sounds better for songs in key of A minor. They have the relationship of Major to relative minor. Use the full scale with all 7 notes or the pentatonic scale. Works for both.

I love music
JJ...You're doing a good job showing where to find the notes. But it might be less confusing for some if you show the right pattern for each position. cheers.
I think the Tab insets are upside down from what he is playing?
Tabs are always shown that way
Do 10 positions, major and minor pentatonic!
its lit:)

What do the red and black dots mean on the picture of the scale?
How can i apply these positions in other keys??
these are the same shapes as minor pentatonic. Whats the difference exept for the root notes?
happy notes
