I used to fall asleep listening to this. 1993
Windows open, breeze blowing, curtains moving with the sound and the feel of a summer night. Lush can be enjoyed alone or with someone, but they are an experience...
It's weird how life can move so far forward and hearing a song can bring you right back to a snap shot in your past.
an ache.
literally my favorite song of all time
a gigantic shoegaze masterpiece
Not really shoegaze. Check out Whirr
jstiegler2 Tbh, Whirr is shit.
@@jstiegler2I see what you are saying, but this band was 20 years before Whirr. Lush were in the shoegaze genre of the 90’s.
I can't think of anything else to say except, damn I've missed this band.
They bring me back to 91 when I was 16. Sunday night, 120 Minutes on MTV was the first time I saw them. I was astounded, and the next year was Lollapalooza and I was blown away.
I am glad to hear and see them again. I hope all the videos get posted.. This was a great live studio set.
Yeah I was like 17 and we all used to watch 120 minutes. I used to put Spooky and Gala on repeat on my C.D. player.
wow, it remember me to medicine bottle by red house painters
GORGEOUS.
When they played this song at the Fonda the night before, (Miki dedicated it to her mum) it nearly ripped my heart out. It was just so intense and incredible. What I wouldn't give for a sound board recording of THAT show!! Amazing show from the first note to the last one.
Yasgow in Space 1999.
LUSH FOREVER! #1 Band of my life!
Miki a fantastic performer besides Emma the mastermind. What a band! Love you a lot. Inmortal song.
Emmas’ Fender strap! That’s childhood.
Pray up and God bless.
This song always makes me want to cry :/
Emma's guitar sounds nice.
Madly underrated song. Love lush.
It's very rated. You are using the term incorrectly.
Who tf said this is underated?
Man this song is truly hypnotic
Jenna Escalera me too! saw them here in DC
Holy mother of Lush, this has got to be one of the most phenomenal live performances I have ever seen...22 years later and it's just like the original/studio album version....the spirit of Chris is here too!!! ❤ Absolutely beautiful song...I don't know how many times in a row I played this today while learning it on guitar - what blows my mind with Lush is (especially concerning the bass parts, which on certain songs is just the same riff over and over) how actually simple what they're doing is, yet how freaking complex they can make it sound! The dual voices which have dissonant clashes at times (also more evident on other songs) just bring it all to the next level...this goes to show that what makes something magical isn't it's difficulty/complexity but the mere essence of what it's trying to convey...I feel my heart open up when letting this song and others take me away...I love you Lush, thanks for creating such wondrous pieces of sonic emotion!!!!!!! 😄
A masterpiece which my family and friends , who all hate indie and Shoegaze etc, will have to listen to at least once as this is being played at my funeral along with California Dreaming by the Mamas and Papas and Dragon Song by the German Shoegaze band Seasurfers.
This is why videos and recordings are important.
Sublime
Hands down my favorite Lush song. There’s something mystical and ethereal about this song. It just floods me with so many memories of seeing them at Lalapoolooza in ‘92 at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pa. Great fvkn times
What a jam
To think I bought this as a single CD over 30 years ago. Still so beautiful.
It makes me think reality got screwed up somehow! BTW, cool profile pic
Goosebumps!!
love❤
Love
Fucks! $ no object to see them live once more in Florida or close! Dammit the play the best shoegaze, the soundtrack of my youth!
Yeah man I am suffering the same fate right now. Florida Lush fans got it hard :(
perfect performance, almost sound like studio work
IIRC Split was a big departure from the way Spooky was recorded from what I read in interviews with the band. I believe they had done mainly live (as they would at a gig) takes for the base tracks for Split as a full band versus Spooky where it was almost all overdubs direct into the recording console and polished with effects later. The original song from Split was mostly recorded live with very little processing IIRC. Missing here are probably the many overdubs of additional instruments (e.g. string sections, massive synth pads, etc...) and cleaned up takes. But the base tracks almost 30 years ago from what I imagine would have sounded similar to this performance.
They still sound brilliant its such a shame they gave it all up i dont think they realised how much their music reaches people. Beautiful track ❤️👌🏽
You familiar with the supergroup Piroshka? If not, check them out. I think you'll be very happy. 👍
@@Poshnoodles yes & thank you i think they sound great love the album Brickbat 👌🏽
Impressionante, os "erros" trazidos por conta da idade só adicionam mais peso na canção. Lush é gigante!
WE NEED A REUNION!!!........NOW! WOULD BE GOOD!
You missed it. They toured in 2016.
Oh, Miki!
❤️
señora berenyi sigue siendo hermosa como siempre 💕
OMG
Cool stuff! Re. the video framing: does nearly every shot need to be mega-zoomed in? Mix it up with more wide shots for better context.
David Kieltyka I completely agree. Especially all of the close ups of the strings being played and guitar necks. Kinda uninspired editing. maybe it was done by the first year intern or something 😊
I noticed this to and thought they were trying to hide that the pretty girls have aged. Lame lame lame.
@@quad_solo_az they're still pretty
saddly I feel Miki's guitar output is too low in the mix...
At some parts, it sounds inexistent
@@Incesticide77 yep... I feel Emma's guitar is way louder, even in their studio albuns
As well as the lead vocal.
@@logicn.reasoning9744 I think lead vocals buried in the mix is part of the shoegaze/dream pop sound, so I don't feel that that's always a bad thing... but Miki's guitar, specially being a 12 string, I think it would be cooler if it was louder
I own this album on CD, digital and vinyl. The vocals are definitely weak on this one as well as the 12 string.
A pinnacle of the showgaze era in this part of the galaxy anyway.
Musica muito bonita!!!
brilliant songwriters.
all of these were uploaded in mono though
: (
David Byrne's brother on Bass. :P
The bassline is so simple and perfect, it gives the humbleness to the song that the drummer forgot in the intense part.
Does anyone know tabs for this
You don't need tab.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver Please can you tell me how it's played i couldn't find it anywhere
@@rohitjolly3256 It's scales and chord prog. Listen to it and play it for six months like Lush did when they made it.
I wish this band would go back on tour, God knows if that's ever gonna happen tho
These girls are freakin me out...and im like Zappa! I alway thought "strummin was for losers" im more of a picker....but the way she strums that Rickenbacker blows my mind.(missing here). They layer the vocals and guitars so Masterfully! One likes rickys..the lead one digs the MAPLE necks! Me too! Love these girls.
suspenso
Lush should've tapped Owain Wyn Evans for drums.
Any people knowledgeable in shoegaze recommend how to get the Emma's tone here (The butterscotch Tele) ?
I Got it to sound super close using a Fender Mustang LT25
Try the Fender all-tube Custom series combo amps. 80s Boss analog chorus. 80s Boss analog delay.
Pretty good rendition of this, make one want to pursue a career in the arts or something, but being born in a working class labor environment, not happening
insufficient reverb on snare
It's an interesting exercise, but there's a lot fumbling, bad timing, and awkward transitions and notes here. The singing is better, but not by much. This, for me, is their best song, it's a masterpiece, I'll be letting the original stand and not listening to the new versions.
sad but true
unfortunately I agree. not nearly as spacious yet tight as the original recording.
They never released a bad song...this is an essential 1 though
It's a live version. This is what live sounds like. Try listening to live music, then comment when you have a better understanding of it.
Their studio stuff is from a time when they were a tight, road-tested unit at the height of their powers. Here, they have recently re-formed with a new drummer. It's almost unfair to compare them to themselves, their previous output. Yeah, the pace got a little loose in a song that utilizes atmospheric dynamics, but its not that bad. You're going to have to forgive them the sin of playing live.
Love this band, but Emma looks like your gram trying to play guitar.
You are tacky
drummer cant drum
They played it like shit
❤
