      Hey A Sea Rhinocerus,
      There is a bug in the 2007 G35 and 350z ECU and the idle air volume learning will never run to completion.
      Some have been able to get an ECU update at the dealer, or you can it updated by Eugene at Enthusiast Auto Care
      (www.yelp.ca/biz/enthusiast-auto-care-concord)
      One 350z viewer commented that he replaced his ECU with one from a 2007 350z.

    I cleaned my throttle body in my 3.7L Q50, had the high rpm issue. I tried the manual way 3 times. Wasn't having luck, but got the VP11. I had done the first two procedures in the morning, drove to from work, parked in driveway and ran the IAVL. It went to about 4000 in the NDS3 app, took well over a minute, and said it failed. Engine reved quiet a few times during the process but didn't return to 650 after restart. Ran it two more times, each seeming to fail. Next day though, I had to drive to work and its started idling between 600-650 after warming up. So I have no clue how it started working but YOU ARE THE MVP! Running like a champ, cant wait to do more DIY! Leaving this book here in case someone else runs into the same weirdness I did ;)

    This worked perfectly the first time. I was nervous after cleaning the throttle bodies and getting the high idle. The car drove horribly. After doing the two manual relearns and this app relearn, everything is great. Absolute at .78, relative at 0 and idle at 650rpm. Thanks for what you did here.

      Great! My favorite Bluetooth OBD scanner is the OBDLink MX+, and are expensive at about $80. BUT they have a 3 year warranty and come with a full featured app. (that I use a lot!)
      Cheaper options are the VeePeak OBDCheck scanners at around $30-40
      Autokcan OBD2 Bluetooth:
      At $14 (from amazon.com US) this is also a good scanner:
      Good luck with what ever you decide to purchase.

      I have not tried it, since I have the VQ37VHR.
      The NDS III app seems very good and I would trust it.
      Here is the description from the factory shop manual:
      Exhaust Valve Timing Control Learning is a function of ECM to learn the characteristic of exhaust valve timing control magnet retarder by comparing the target angle of exhaust camshaft with the actual retarded angle of O exhaust camshaft. It must be performed each time exhaust valve timing control magnet retarder is disconnected or replaced, or ECM is replaced.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  3 роки тому

      Hey Alien8eD!,
      That is a great question!
      Since the throttle body spacer doesn't change the airflow at idle, I don't think it would be necessary to do the "idle air volume learning"
      However, since the throttle bodies are off, why not clean them and do the "idle air volume learning"... then you are good to go for a while :)

    hello, i have a question..will the ecu relearn by itself? i changed plugs,cleaned throttle bodies and maf sensors and started car up and was idling erratically up and down a few times before doing it all over again...i did the IAVL and it stabilized the rpms alot lower (800 to 900 rpm)...while in drive and stopped its normal but coasting to a stop it idles around 900rpm...will it fix itself? over the course of days of driving?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  Рік тому

      Once the engine is fully warmed up, the idle should be between 600-700 RPM when in park/neutral.
      I don't know what is normal engine RPM once it is in drive and costing to a stop, as my G has a 6 speed manual.

      Hey 이성원,
      The engine coolant temp must be at least 70C.
      In order for the idle air volume procedure to run and complete
      Make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied:
      Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a moment.
      • Battery voltage: More than 12.9 V (At idle)
      • Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 105°C (158 - 221°F)
      • PNP switch: ON (M/T models)
      • Selector lever: P or N (A/T models)
      • Electric load switch: OFF (Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
      On vehicles equipped with daytime light systems, if the parking brake is applied before the engine is started the headlamp will not be illuminated.
      • Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
      • Vehicle speed: Stopped
      • Transmission: Warmed-up
      • Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.

      Here are the steps right from the shop manual:
      WITHOUT CONSULT-III
      1. Start the engine.
      NOTE:
      Engine coolant temperature is 25°C (77°F) or less before engine starts.
      2. Warm up the engine.
      NOTE:
      Raise engine coolant temperature until it reaches 65°C (149°F) or more.
      3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
      Check that throttle valve moves during the above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

    Do I have to do a Pedal Releasescl rear and then continue to do a trot closecl clear?
    Or do I have to do Pedal Relegasecl Erlen and wait until then do throttle closecl learn?
    As I said yesterday, idle speed is maintained at 650 rpm,
    If you take your foot off the accelerator when you are driving slowly and when the vehicle is blocked, you can quickly fall to 500 rpm.
    I can't figure out why.~~
    We can't even replace it with a throttle chamber, air flow sensor, pcv valve, ignition plug, ignition coil.
    It's falling to 500 rpm, and there's a slight engine break.

    If the original idle air was learned and stored in memory why does it need to be relearned? Or is it stored in RAM.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  3 роки тому

      Hey Fernando Hood,
      That is an excellent question!
      Due to the crankcase ventilation (PCV system) there is a little oil in the intake air. This is why the throttle body gets dirty.
      Over time, the ECU will adjust the throttle position (little more opened) to compensate for the carbon build up. When we clean the throttle body and remove the dirt, this will allow MORE air into the engine and the idle will be higher.
      The idle air volume learning process allows the ECU to "reset" the throttle position to get the proper idle speed.
      The idle air volume values are stored in non-volatile memory, so they are not lost when the battery is disconnected.

    What does the clear self learn do?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  5 років тому

      Hey dgree100,
      What an EXCELLENT question!
      Our engines are always adjusting how much fuel they need to run properly. This allows the engine control unit to compensate for wear.
      These adjustments are called "Long Term Fuel Trim" and "Short Term Fuel Trim"
      If you add both together, the result is the total fueling requirements of the engine.
      Here is a video I made for my other channel that will explain it: ua-cam.com/video/E6BWhp3851M/v-deo.html
      When the "Self Learn" is cleared it resets the "Long Term Fuel Trim" back to zero.
      The "Short Term Fuel Trim" is reset to zero every time the car is turned off.
      The "Long Term Fuel Trim" is saved in a special memory that isn't erased when the car is turned off.

    Hi, Motorvate's
    Do you have any questions?
    Manual setting is 10 minutes when you are an automatic car.
    If I use the app, can I learn the IDie air voome for 10 minutes without driving?
    What is the engine coolant temperature?
    Thank you.

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  5 років тому

      Hey 성원 이,
      In order for the engine oil, engine coolant, and transmission oil to be at the proper temperature a 10 minute drive is required. Idling for 10 minutes may work, but it is best to go for a 10 minute drive.
      The engine coolant temperature needs to be 70 - 105°C (158 - 221°F)
      and here are all the required precondition required for the idle air volume learning procedure to run and complete:
      • Transmission: Warmed-up
      - A/T models
      • With CONSULT-III: Drive vehicle until “ATF TEMP SE 1” in “DATA MONITOR” mode of “A/T” system indicates less than 0.9 V.
      • Without CONSULT-III: Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.
      - M/T models
      • Drive vehicle for 10 minutes.

      Do you have another question?
      - A/T models
      • With CONSULT-III: Drive Vehicle unit undtil "ATF TEMP SE 1" in "DATA MONITOR" mode of "A/TITOR" system
      Does this mean transmission fluid temperature above 80°C?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  5 років тому

      Hey 성원 이,
      The factory shop manual doesn't mention a specific transmission oil temperature.
      If you can't drive the car for 10 minutes, then I think the next best thing would be to let it idle for 15 or so minutes and then do the idle air volume learning.
      Good luck!

      2. During Easy Idle Air Volume Learning, the engine RPM is set without any movement (at this point the battery voltage is 14.0v to 14.2V).

      That sounds like the ECU is trying to lower an idle that is too high. Please scan for codes and see if you have a P0507 (idle too high)
      It can be tricky to get the idle air volume learning to run to completion. Some of the comments on this page mention trying it over 20 times, before it worked. Kind of weird.
      BUT you do need to follow the pre-condidtions exactly, if anything isn't correct, it won't run to completion.

      However, when the m37 engine is started, the battery bolts move from 14v to 11.8v.
      It is maintained from 11.8v to 12.0v
      It is not conditional on 12.9v. Does this matter?

      Hey 이성원,
      In order to increase the fuel efficiency, our cars control the power output of the alternator
      So, the traditional voltage output ( 14+ volts engine running, 12.4+ volts with engine off) can't be used to determine if the charging system is working properly.

    If there is high idle e.g 1500rpm will this work?

    • @MotorvateDIY
      @MotorvateDIY  3 роки тому

      Hey Fernando Hood,
      First check: Make sure the engine is fully warmed up. a 10-15 minute drive should be good.
      If the idle is too high, the idle air volume learning won't run to completion.
      To temporarily lower your idle, you can create a small vacuum leak by unplugging the PCV system at the intake, or by allowing a little air in at the throttle body. (Loosen the clamp and partly pull off the rubber boot until there is a little opening.
      Others have had luck by unplugging the MAF, starting the car and getting a check engine light. Then plug in the MAF, clear the code and the idle might be a little lower.
