Man Fischer was a psycho! Can you imagine the mental gymnastics he put his opponents through? This game looks like straight torture. Always a new and dynamic threat around every move.
Beautiful game and excellent commentary. Bobby Fischer is part of why I fell in love with the game. Your crisp, clean commentary shows a superb insight, thanks. 1957--that would make Fischer 14(?) at the time of this game. Some of the less elderly may not know that.
There is many grandmasters that would not have passed up the opportunity to go up a rook or a knight. Fischer is brilliant with his calculations. Great games Mato :) You rock dude
That's why he is Bobby Fisher...he is brilliant, arrogant and a genius.I don't understand why you're so surprised.I think every one should find it glamourous, when you see such a briliant mind in these chess levels.Don't worry, maybe i am a very big fan o f Bobby to comment like this. :)
It's very much fischer's style. He'd rather have a positional advantage with even material rather than an extra pawn or exchange, but be facing counterattack. I do the same in my own games, but i am no fischer, of course!
don't be manipulated by hollywood and the film of boby fisher , go look for rashid nezmhetdinov an assassin chess player , much more genius than your bobby
Consider the possibility that future World Champion Fischer (aged 14 when this was played) might have, for reasons other than arrogance, weighing considerations you might not even be able to detect, won the game the very best way. It turns out that eliminating counterplay through relentless, sustained initiative breaks the fighting spirit of the enemy: Black wanted to give up material to stay in the game. But young Fischer followed the sage advice of the old generals: attack the enemy's plan.
Why is everyone so mad about fischer not taking the advantage of capturing the rook? I mean he is already attacking the king and if he captures the rook the momentum of his attack may sway and it will give sherwin a plan to counter his attack.. ahhmm.. right?
hi Mato.. I found among the best games of Fischer a game against Sherwin.. But it's not this one....... it's a much more spectacular one from US championship (B90 Sicilian, Najdorf) sorry I can't post the web link could you make a video about it? :) thanks!!
@gentilguy Yes, but then you'd just have dxe5, and if he doesn't capture with the knight Fischer could just move the pawn up, or if black does Nxe5 then Bxe5 and black would still be skewered.
They are mad because they don't have the slightest idea about Fisher's way. He didn't tortured the opponent ... He was making history ! This is why we don't see another Fisher, because all they care is a piece of wood ... and the goal is the king (!!) not a poor rook anyway. Go for the king and do it in most brilliant way possible (and if we look back at black's move to c4, this is where Fisher begun that plan ...)
It's pretty comical how the irony of someone who has virtually no understanding of the game of chess having the audacity to judge Fischer's play and calling him arrogant completely escapes you.
also, when i made my comment, i didnt mean to sound like "OMG WHY DIDNT FISCHER TAKE MOAR PIECES," as there have been many cases where more pieces really do not mean anything. however, in this game's case, i felt that fischer could have ended the game more swiftly if he were to have taken more pieces when presented the opportunity.
I disagree..I feel like taking the material immediately would have led to a winning position with material advantage..but not the material advantage and position that the game ended with...Fischer played outstanding
It was not really Fischer's system. Other players - Petrosian in particular - were regularly using a king's indian formation against sicilians, french defences etc before Fischer had been toilet trained.
Mann BF was a bully on the chess board! Holy mackerel. Jus sheer domination! Me? Any chance i can capture a rook im all over it. BF? Nahh im jus gunna continue on apply excruciating pressure !!
instead of simply attacking me so deconstructively, could you care to explain to me why i'm wrong? how nice of you to add that your a "2491" player in a pithy attempt to give yourself more credibility, but there is absolutely no way for me or anyone to verify whether you actually as good as you say you are. it also seems somewhat strange to me that a player of your calibur should be scrolling on youtube videos like mato's (which are fantastic btw) if you already are so knowledgable on the game.
..Except Fischer was exceptionally arrogant, you should look up what he has said about Chess. By the end of his career Fischer thought that he was above chess as it was "all memorization" - clearly false. As for myself I'll admit that my understanding of chess still barely scratches the surface, and perhaps my comment was ignorant. It's pretty comical to me though how so many people have gotten so agitated by my comment and have resorted to ad hominem where a simple explanation would've sufficed
i find this game to be one of fischer's more disappointing games. i feel that if he were to have taken the opportunities to get up by certain by the rook or the knight, the game could have possibly ended much faster. even though by end game it was clear his position was vastly superior, i feel like him ignoring potential piece gains just showcases his arrogance and makes him seem like he was toying with sherwin the whole time. just my two cents. great game and commentary though!
I enjoy watching his games with mato commentating and providing themes, plans, analysis, and tactics!
He was 13 years old at the time of playing this game
Man Fischer was a psycho! Can you imagine the mental gymnastics he put his opponents through? This game looks like straight torture. Always a new and dynamic threat around every move.
Beautiful attack by Fischer. It's so amazing he just leaves the black pieces intact and puts out so much pressure! Truly a pleasure to watch.

I love your channel mato. Please continue producing awesome content.
Wow, what a game! Bobby Fischer laid the smack down.
Thank you for your comment
Fischer always plays the right move not the most obvious one.
Your videos always inspire me to play the game and get better. Keep it up!

Fischer always made them resign
Lol
This guy was legend .
He still is...........
yes Fisher was fantastic
To think, Fischer was still in Hitler Youth when he played this game.
I remember this game. It's detailed in Bobby Fisher's 60 Most Memorable Games.
It may even be the first one there.
It's very much fischer's style. He'd rather have a positional advantage with even material rather than an extra pawn or exchange, but be facing counterattack. I do the same in my own games, but i am no fischer, of course!
subscribed. I love your voice and your videos.
nice video, mato, even without the usual killer move puzzle.
Fischer was just like an engine. Omg.
don't be manipulated by hollywood and the film of boby fisher , go look for rashid nezmhetdinov an assassin chess player , much more genius than your bobby
All the top players were geniuses in their own way.
Thanks for sharing 👍
this was a beating. didn't fischer have any mercy?
Correct. I forgot the rook was on g8, thinking it was still on f8. Shtoopid of me!
What a brilliant move,fischer amazing
Amazing player. Amazing games
Bobby 💎❤️
at 3:01 why didnt black capture with the king?

That's why i like Fischer and Tal :)
2:13 Ng5 and black move was Ne7, why black dont played his pawn to h6, white Knight go to e4 and black is still oke or not?

Fantastic!
A really impressive sucrificial attack by Fischer, but what did black do wrong to allow it?
poor coordination of pieces on the k side which weakened h7 and made it a target
Wonderful!
What if at 3:03, Kxh7...? Ph5 will be met with Nxh5...now what?
vinzanity68 bishop f4 can be played straightaway as the knight on g6 is pinned by queen on c2..
@gentilguy Yes, but then you'd just have dxe5, and if he doesn't capture with the knight Fischer could just move the pawn up, or if black does Nxe5 then Bxe5 and black would still be skewered.
At 0:58 white is in a KIA.
4:07 why dont g2×b7?
Wish I could win some game in that style!
Except that at point 6:45 in your video, Black could have played Rg8+! then after Kf1 RxB.
Then Qb8+ picks up the other rook.
2:33 Why not g6 instead?
You should never move the kingside pawns if castled, only in a critical position or end game.
He would have had pretty weak dark squares without the dark squared bishop.
James Sherwin still plays chess on ICC! I've played him once, and won luckily on time in a worse position.
And Fischer still had one rook 'on reserve' on its original square.
Tell me if he had taken the knight with the king instead he would be fine and winning the game?
Thanks I see it now bit of a stupid question
No cos h5 allows the skewer or win of knight
Actually h5 is countered with knight x h5 . I would have liked Mato to analize kX kn
i like the "he doesnt respect rooks very much in this game"
They are mad because they don't have the slightest idea about Fisher's way. He didn't tortured the opponent ... He was making history ! wow!
No man... it's the King's Indian Attack vs the e6 Sicilian... this was Fischer's weapon before he developed the Fischer-Sozin attack
What would white do if black captured the sacked knight with the king instead of his own knight? 2:50
also, when i made my comment, i didnt mean to sound like "OMG WHY DIDNT FISCHER TAKE MOAR PIECES," as there have been many cases where more pieces really do not mean anything. however, in this game's case, i felt that fischer could have ended the game more swiftly if he were to have taken more pieces when presented the opportunity.
"Fisher did not respect rooks very much"...Well, after seeing they were pretty much useless during this game, I don't wonder why...
3:03 What if Kxh7
I disagree..I feel like taking the material immediately would have led to a winning position with material advantage..but not the material advantage and position that the game ended with...Fischer played outstanding
Take note young chess fans. Ideas being used now were already being used before the current top players were born.
Hey mato can we play sometime?
It was not really Fischer's system. Other players - Petrosian in particular - were regularly using a king's indian formation against sicilians, french defences etc before Fischer had been toilet trained.
Sir Curtis Seretse to be fair , Fischer probably could play this well before he was potty trained.
There is nothing new under the sun.
Maybe Fischer was arrogant, I don't know. He did design Chess960 though, so he does enjoy the essence of the game of Chess.
is this not kings indian attack
At 0:58 it is exactly that.
That was the definition of annihilation
oh lawdy i have sinned
A little too fast on the possible alternate moves.
This is King's Indian Attack
still in 1957
Aight
Mann BF was a bully on the chess board! Holy mackerel. Jus sheer domination! Me? Any chance i can capture a rook im all over it. BF? Nahh im jus gunna continue on apply excruciating pressure !!
amazing game!
👌
❤🙏👍
Go KIA!!!
amazing fischer-the best ever imho. saw kasprovs games and karpov.both great but fischer would beat them more times head to head,
he was a freak.
I thought that sicilian defense is the most powerful move against e4, but in your video I see that it's not work for black
with that logic any opening fisher Ever played against is Bad. ....
I saw Nxh7
+Donte Powell the knight is pinned its a checkmate there wtf
That doesn't work either because then Qb8+ will skewer the rook, winning it anyways
KIA

if you wanna watch games like that.you should watch alexander alekhine instead.
chess is about beating whos in front of you. NOT playing perfect.

you know he was 14 when he played this game ?
lolz dude you needa chilllllllllllllllllllllll
If you don't beat Fischer, he'll beat you. If he makes a mistake you might get away with a draw.
pfff....chess nerds.
Thank you for your comment
