this is one of your best videos mato. not only is this a brilliant and instructive game but your analysis is fantastic. there are so many lessons to be learned from this game and you teach me a new one each time i watch.
Amazing, Tal wasn't a well man at this stage, yet he produced some fantastic chess. Mato, you bring alive his spirit, and your knowledge is excellent! Thank you
i love your voice and how you say killer move, critical point, and checkmate. your videos are nice, short, and very helpful. other videos are too long with a bunch of rambling. thanks
to put his strength into perspective not even my strongest chess program rybka 2.3.2a (elo 3150) found that move at the critical point :-O rather suggesting the mentioned knight takes knight instead..
The engine "not finding" the move doesn't make him better than it. Q takes is flashy af, of course, but the engine just found a defence in that line and suggested a stronger move that leaves no chances. Even a mediocre engine of today would annihilate the strongest super GMs (look up Nakamura vs. Komodo, there's videos of him playing against it on several occasions), let alone the insane neural network engines that exist nowadays. Amazing game either way though
You rock man. I have learned so much from your vids. I hope you make more middle game vids soon. When things are better for me financially I'll go to you sight and donate, cause its well worth it.
I played Smith Morra in my last official tournament 3 times and won all 3 - quite a lot of fun this opening - andrew Martin made an excellent training DVD about it
The Blackmar-Diemar gambit is for white: 1. d4 d5 2. e4 dxe4 (or 1. e4 d5 2. d4 dxe4 is Black opts or the Scandinavian Defense against e4) 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. f3 exf3 5. Nxf3 and White has rapid development. The Smith Morra is very similar, but it is played against the Sicilian.
great video, mato! what do you think of this gambit? could you maybe do more videos about this gambit in the future? thank you for all your videos, i have really improved a lot thanks to you :]
I think Qb8 is the move which killed black... Hiding the queen so far away from the battlefield is a just a recipe for a quick defeat. Thanks Mato, i always watch your video with my dinner... Your chess commentary makes it so lively and it feels like a real battlefield
Hello Mato! Your videos are the best! Tal is my chess hero, really like his style. By the way, did you know that Mato means in finnish a worm? Greetings from Finland!
"I'll show you another variation that seems kind of CUTE" ...and shows another way of crushing black mercilessly - as cute as beheading a puppy dog. That was cruel, man!
I have just bought "Mayhem in the Morra" by IM Marc Esserman and am going through it so this is very timely. I thoroughly recommend the book, if nothing else it's an extremely entertaining and well written chess book which is something of a "rara avis".
fisher00769 Very nicely said. Tal remains an inspiration for those of us who admire unpredictable brilliance over the plodding book moves of today's GMs.
If you don't like playing against Sicilian Defense with White (like me), Smith-Morra Gambit is a nice opening which gives you a lot of tactical shots. Also a lot of Sicilian Defense players do not know it. It's worth a try ;)
best move for black at 5:46? I haven't played it out on a board so I may appear foolish here, but what about instead of h6, g6 forcing the knight to move? It gives the king a little room to escape? no?
It's very difficult for me to decide whether I like Tal or Morphy the most. Both of them are such attacking geniuses but in different ways. Morphy had more simple fun traps which are easier to understand, where as Tal just didn't care what pieces he lost and destroyed his opponents. Both of these guys are far more awesome than Carlsen.
At 4:42 the instead of going to F6 with Knight, it would be better to move it to E7 and doing a check, and opening up the space for the rook. From there black can either take Knight with Rook, which will end up in check mate for black, or move king, which will end up check mate either way. Don't know why you played it to F6.
1.22, placing rook on the same line of black queen. ok, listened this almost 1000 times, but the queen should really moves faster than possible from that condition? looking videos seems like almost a check, is it so dangerous?
Mato, you should be the Universal play by play commentator for every world championship game forever :) very colorful, and informative!!
Tal is a genius, Oh boy oh boy. Thank you thought Mato for these beautiful videos.
this is one of your best videos mato. not only is this a brilliant and instructive game but your analysis is fantastic. there are so many lessons to be learned from this game and you teach me a new one each time i watch.

Thankyou Mato :) really appreciate you for the nice analysis.
Tal: Best Chess Player of all times, and the most fun, too! Thanks, Mato. I love your videos!

Even near the end of his life, the magician from Riga was creating works of art at the chessboard!
I like how you cover each move by giving the reason behind every decision! easy to learn from you!
You are so good at explaining and analyzing chess games. Keep the videos coming.
A memorable game by Tal. Thanks for the upload Mato and simple explanation of why Black's position is hopeless.
Thank you for your comment
Tal my hero..His games gave pleasure. You too refreshen splendidly. Thanks
Thanks again for this wonderful Tal game presented wth equally wonderful narration & analysis!
Thanks!
The moment Tal starts to do crazy moves it's already over for opponent.
Thank you MatoJelic!
I love it when Grandmasters play the so-called unsound gambits!
“There are two types of sacrifices: correct one and mine”
-Mikhail Tal
True indeed!
Love your videos Mato, thank you very much!
Thanks for the video and commentaries.

@@EmanuelKatwik would the engine defeat Morphy? Just curious.

What a genius!? Tal makes it look so easy. To be able to see what he saw......
That was really good Mato, thanks so much
The Blackmar-Diemar gambit is for white: 1. d4 d5 2. e4 dxe4 (or 1. e4 d5 2. d4 dxe4 is Black opts or the Scandinavian Defense against e4) 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. f3 exf3 5. Nxf3 and White has rapid development. The Smith Morra is very similar, but it is played against the Sicilian.
Tal is awesome!!! Thanks for the great video.
Mato, After 30 videos watched for last 3 weeks, my percentage of finding the killer move has grown. :)
Zaista impresivno...
another of my favorites, thanks Mato.
never thought of trying smith-morra gambit.. looks very interesting!
Mato you are great teacher thank you a lot for sharing videos :)
I love your style, Mato! Keep it up.

you are a great teacher mato!
What a beating! What a mastery of a really complex position!

+James Tames The Morra Gambit is not sound, iirc, but black has to play with care. He can't keep ceding space and time as with his ....Qb8.
Nice, Keep up the good work Mato :)
Amazing. Good game. Thank you sir.

Sick in a beautiful way!! That is Tal for you.
And Vite is Vinning! :-) Thanks Mato.

Tal is very good. I'd like to see Tal vs Magnus.
he is dead -.-
ManlyTeddybear Magnus is dead??? (*_*)
Locutus D'Borg troll or hypocritic?
Tal's not dead. He just sacrificed his body for a beautiful combination.
fisher00769 Very nicely said. Tal remains an inspiration for those of us who admire unpredictable brilliance over the plodding book moves of today's GMs.

Tal's games are by far my favorite to watch.

If g6, Ne7+ and taking away the bishop
I'm obsessed with Tal!
Very nice. I managed to find ....Nxf6+, but only Tal would think of sacrificing his queen.
There is no player in chess history quite like Tal. Truly a wizard.
i would give a lot to see a tal vs morphy series.. :D
It's very difficult for me to decide whether I like Tal or Morphy the most. Both of them are such attacking geniuses but in different ways. That queen sacrifice was absolutely brilliant.
Incrediblo!
6:46 what happen if queen f8 ?
thank you mato
What a fantastic game Thx mato
Mato I am so excited for your book! Have a date yet for it's publishing?
Tal was 54 years old when he did this. he is something else
i think this game was the most solid defense against Tal i saw so far. Still not enough to stop him :)
can you get us some more tal games?? :D
what a moves from tal .. genius man :)
that was stunning.
Mikhail Tal is beyond amazing!
What a game, thnx mato,
Thanks
Too good 👍
Knight to E7 at pause seems like killer move to me
Watching this game, i was thinking Tal wasn't playing like Tal until that "killa move!"
SO GREAT MAAAATOOOO!!!!
grate game, grate presentation
Serious indeed
Is the Smith Morra gambit similiar to the blackmar-diemar gambit for black?
why not rook to c6 at 5:44 for black? winning queen or getting at least 2 rooks/rook and a bishop for one rook
I was actually surprised that Tal didnt play Qxc5 at 3:27, maybe it just wasn't his day
At 4:42 the instead of going to F6 with Knight, it would be better to move it to E7 and doing a check, and opening up the space for the rook. From there black can either take Knight with Rook, which will end up in check mate for black, or move king, which will end up check mate either way. Don't know why you played it to F6.

Tals games are the most interesting to watch.
Maybe we can
one of tal's best game
"I'll just show you one variation, that's kind of cute" lol
Thank you for your comment
Nice Queen sacrifice !
I like your word killa move !
