@bobdavis4848 I said 3 hits in the UK scraping the top 40 in Britain is not considered a hit. The three I mentioned were hits .One of those five you mentioned is a remix of her old hit.
@@Raider577 Here in the US, I grew up listening to Casey Kasem’s ”American Top 40.” It used the top part of the Billboard Hot 100. He’d say, “We’re counting down the 40 biggest hits in the 50 states.” I consider any song to make the Billboard Hot 100 at all to be a hit, and anywhere in the Top 40 to be among the biggest. I don’t know why you consider a #39 peak to not be a hit. “Light My Fire” was actually titled “Light My Fire / 137 Disco Heaven,” as Jimmy Somerville has said. No, one of the five I mentioned was not a remix of her old hit. I was not counting the remix. Amii Stewart’s five Top 40 hits in the UK were “Knock On Wood,” “Light My Fire / 137 Disco Heaven,” “The Letter / Paradise Bird,” “My Guy / My Girl” (medley, duet with Johnny Bristol) and “Friends.”

@@perroerudito Thank you for the great list. I knew and loved all those songs, but it was the first time for me to hear Freddie James and I love it, too. It seemed you were trying to communicate that all those music acts were one hit wonders. So I mentioned GQ’s followup hit to “Disco Nights (Rock Freak).”
I love all these songs. David Paich’s last name is pronounced “Paych,” one syllable, not the two syllable “Pay-itch.” You said “Disco Duck” had a “unique duck voice.” No, it sounds like Donald Duck. Not “everyone” was dancing to it. Michael Zager’s last name is pronounced “Zaygur.” It does not rhyme with “Jagger.” The “Let’s All Chant” lyric goes “…everybody work your body,” not “everybody moves your body.” You can hear the real lyric right after you spoke! Andrea True Connection was not a one hit wonder; their “N.Y. You Got Me Dancing” reached #27. You said “More, More More” had lines like “I want your love, I want your love.” No, that line is nowhere in the song. Are you a bot who got confused with Chic? Thelma Houston was not a one hit wonder; after “Don’t Leave Me This Way” reached #1, “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning” reached #34. Sylvester was not a one hit wonder; he had three top 40 pop chart hits and you did not even featured the biggest of them! “Dance (Disco Heat)” reached #19; ”I (Who Have Nothing)” reached #40. Your graphics omitted the parentheses around “Mighty Real.” You said Sylvester was known as the queen of disco. You think he was called that more than Donna Summer or Gloria Gaynor were? Songs are not one hit wonders; artists may be. Artists record songs; songs don’t record songs.
You made a mistake with First Choice. They had several recordings that were hits in the clubs and that is what counted to us, the fans. Cheryl Lynn is another artist you didn't get right

Boogie Nights - Heatwave Disco Inferno - The Trammps I was made for Dancing - Leif Garrett Yes sir, I can Boogie - Baccara Boogie Oogie Oogie - A taste of Honey Boogie Woogie Dancing shoes - Claudja Barry Shame, shame, shame - Shirley and Company
Cool video. As a Househead though, I would argue that FIRST CHOICE was not a one-hit wonder group. ARMED/EXTREMELY DANGEROUS may well have been their most mainstream billboard pop hit, but the group has several other songs that are popular among black urban listeners, especially those into house music. LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER, DOUBLE-CROSS, DOCTOR LOVE and HOLD YOUR HORSES are all righteous club bangers that are easily recognizable to listeners. To a lesser extent, I would also make this case for Thelma Houston. But this was a fun video overall. Took me back to some cuts I hadn't thought about in decades.
First Choice also had hits on the R&B and disco charts with Smarty Pants, Doctor Love, Love Thang, Guilty. Sylvester also had hits with Do You Wanna Funk and Dance (Disco Heat) in the U.S. and Europe. To say they were one hit wonders wouldn’t be quite accurate. They just weren’t all necessarily in the mainstream. The Grateful Dead’s only mainstream top 40 hit was Touch of Grey. It would be totally crazy to call them a one hit wonder.

Let's All Chant we play it too...Club Zanzibar Newark, NJ
I was in high school boarding school with disco. My years were ‘75-‘78.
Club/Klub or now called House since 1985 we still play certain songs listed and artist.
Let’s be clear. Sylvester tore that floor up!!!
I still love disco music
Me, too!
Cheryl Lynn had more than one hit 'Encore' and 'If This World Was Mine' with Luther Vandross was also hits....To Be Real was a big hit but so was Encore
True!
Cheryl Lynn singing on Georgy Porgy.... Excellent !
@@davidbrown8310 you right I forgot about
Sidenote Van Mc Coy had the big hit the hustle but as a writer and producer he had hits on many artists before and after that song
THANK YOU! Cheryl Lynn IS NOT a one hit wonder. She’s regarded as one of the top female voices in R&B. It’s true, she doesn’t have a long list of songs, but she’s got more a few.
You have to take Van McCoy off that One Hit Wonder List. Because Van had Hundred’s Hits. Literally! He was one of the Hottest Producers in the Business, starting from 60’s to his Death.
I agree! Same about Vicki and Cheryl, too. Well, they were this way here in Brazil. Let's include Andrea in it.
I taught my friends how to do the hustle in Darlene Mudd's living room on the shag carpet. Later I taught my fellow high school students how to do the hustle in our gym with over 100 people behind me. A few years later, wrapping up the 70's, our local town disco (more like an old roadhouse with a mirror ball) when Ring My Bell came on everyone rushed to the dance floor.
I remember and loved all of these songs. Fun times.
Ami Stewart had at least 2 big hits in the US and 3 in Britain and Europe. Knock on Wood, Light my Fire, and Friends.
Amii, not Ami. Amii Stewart had only one US Top 40 pop hit. She had five top 40 pop hits in the UK.

Ring my bell loved it.
Also a baby boomer from NYC. In my teenage years went to many discos in my high school years. Manhattan and Queens

Cheryl Lynn had a few hits. Her version of "If This World Was Mine" with Luther Vandross was a classic.
@@kevinleonard1693 Shake it up tonight encore if you were mine
On the Billboard US Top 40 pop chart she just had one. On the Billboard US Top 40 soul chart, she had thirteen.
Cheryl Lynn sang “If this world were mine” with Luther Vandross in the 80s. It was pretty popular.

LTD was not a OHW, they had five other songs in the Top 100 and 13 songs in the R&B Top 50, including three number 1 records. Jeffrey Osbourne was their drummer and lead singer, when he went solo, he had several more hit records. He co-headed a tour with Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston was their opening act. He also co-wrote "All at Once" for Whitney Houston.
On my 60th birthday, my daughter threw me a disco party. My friends and all felt like we were 15 again wearing bell bottoms, boogieing away. Normally, at our age we would be singing karaoke.
Wild cherry funky music
We did the Hustle in my dorm at school. We did it in the living room. I was in 10th grade. Told my parents about it when we went to a restaurant and I did it there too.

Great era of music!! I’m going back n a time machine
Let's not be ridiculous Sylvester was not a one hit wonder😢
You made a mistake with First Choice. They had several recordings that were hits in the clubs and that is what counted to us, the fans. Cheryl Lynn is another artist you didn't get right
Cheryl Lynn also had a hit with Star Love and had a modestly successful career in the early eighties. She actually got her start on The Gong Show!
@@Rick-hx9fo Shake it up tonight and encore were hits also
@@jimmiesmith5811 yup. I mentioned this in my comments as well.
@@Rick-hx9fo
I can see her singing while wearing a leotard, dancing and waving ribbons. Like it was yesterday.
He mentioned The Gong Show. "Star Love" did not make the pop top 40.
@@bobdavis4848 "Star Love" was the B side to "Got to Be Real", so it can be argued that it helped propel it to the top of the charts. I actually bought the 45 specifically for "Star Love" when I was little.
I swear, the hustle always makes me think of going to aunt marie's house for sunday dinners. I can almost smell the gravy!
Calling Cheryl Lynn, Sylvester and First Choice one hit wonders is wild!

I considered Play That Funky Music more funk than disco.Disco Duck was a parody of Disco music, most people didn't realize it
I have to agree with you, on both.
A lot of funk was being played during that time every dance song that came out during that era wasn't all disco
@@jimmiesmith5811 The Ohio Players were the top funk band of the time.
@@David-yw2lvParliament/Funkadelics might disagree.
@@ulcardfan8540 P/Funk made one record I liked Tear the Roof off the Sucker.I loathed the rest of their songs.
Carol Douglas's Doctor's Orders. Loved that song!
@@mindybubner2843 They also had double cross
@@jimmiesmith5811 I forgot about that song. But what is also not mentioned... Let no man put asunder may 1983.

Thelma Houston also got a Grammy for Don’t leave me this way. She is one of the greatest singers of that period and she is still great.
