70s forever. Past the 50s/60s limits. It was freedom, exploring, music, Star Wars, Jaws, and Superman. Before crack, gangs, and AIDS. Adults raided the disco clubs, kids lived on the street playing until dark, and some of the best shows on TV were on air. I'd go back in sec.

"Freak Out" had to be the song for me for 1979. Disco had been going on for a couple of years by then. But when they came out with "Freak Out", the sound was just a whole different level. Even to this day, that guitar riff is still fresh and infectious. No surprises that even well into the 80s, Bowie got Nile doing that guitar thing again for Let's Dance.
1979 was the year I moved from my natal Ecuador to California USA and all these songs were hitting the airwaves. It takes me back to my high school days
All of these songs were hits in my mind, particularly "Ring My Bell by Regina Bell", I heard this when I was in basic training in the Army early every morning during that period of time.... This song actually made me change my attitude about being in the Army, I realized that one can have personal likes. Which actually helped me with my training go much smoother for me. It never interfered with my military training. The song motivated me every morning.... My "Honorable" mention was to "My Sharona" also!!
For me,1979 was the most amazing year in Top 40. My favorite song of 79 was "Hot Stuff!" By Donna Summer. It spent the most weeks in the Top 10 for the year.

HEART OF GLASS BY BLONDIE!!!!!!@@markjenkins7924
Had the pleasure of hearing this distinguished young lady performing live at the Upper House Of Praise and Evangelism. Such a sweet voice.
I was 18! Class of 79" "AIN'T no stopping us now. "
We are Family by Sister Sledge.
Especially if you are from Pittsburgh! That song WAS 1979!
I graduated from junior high and started high school that fall. How could you forget Good Times by Chic and Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now by McFadden & Whitehead?
I was 7 years old.❤😂
70s forever.
Me too!
All disco. Plenty of good ones missing.... Bad Company, ELO, Styx, and many more could have made a list like this.
Rapper's Delight hit the scene in September 1979. I remember saying what is that, while I was recording from my boom box radio. 😮
“Freak Out” was written as a diss track against Studio 54 for not letting them in, but the lyrics were originally “Fuck Off”, but obviously was changed for radio play.
Yep! I saw this on a VH-I special back in the 90's or 2000's.
I appreciate this song so much more knowing this lol
Wow I'm 62 now great songs in the key of my heart 💖 forever 😂
My fave of 1979 was stumblin in by Suzy Quattro and Chris Niorman
Absolutely
I was a kid growing up in the 70’s all of these songs bring me back to my youth and have a special place in my life days I’ll never forget or will relive

Heart of Glass by Blondie is my favorite song of 1979, and of all-time.
Earth, Wind and Fire - Boogie Wonderland
OMG! I remember all these songs. So, 1979 was the year I discovered I love music.
"Le Freak."
@Spookym123. LOL, you’re right! 😂
Been watching too many P. Diddy updates and his freakouts.
Don't forget BERNARD EDWARDS, guitarist extraordinaire.
Six songs were pure disco hits.
In 79..supertramp was big .breakfast in america!

1979 was the year I moved from my natal Ecuador to California USA and all these songs were hitting the airwaves. It takes me back to my high school days

Most of these songs are iconic. Great Memories! I was in the tenth grade.

Donna was the BEST
Donna Summers, the queen 😀
The good Ole days. 💃🌞😎🏖
RIP, Donna Summer...
Bad Girls. Donna Summer
The Knack's My Sharona was by far the biggest hit in 1979 and the antidote to the otherwise overloaded disco fare...
In the 70s songs that Donna Summer released is an instant hit.
Cranking FM on my 71 Ford Torino GT with the power booster. Listened to all of them.
'73 Plymouth 'Cuda for me about $1000 in the stereo, almost as much as the car cost me
First of all, love your list for 1979.
I don't know why, even though I know that it was released in 1979. But the Knack's My Sharona always reminds me of an 80s song.
1979 had so many wonderful hits, that' it's not possible to list them all, but, here's a few of my favorites of 1979.
After the Love Has Gone…Earth, Wind & Fire .
Knock on Wood…Amii Stewart ·
Cars…Gary Numan ·
Escape (The Piña Colada Song)…Rupert Holmes ·

I can confirm, My Sharona as #1, radio airplay every 15 minutes from July to December '79.
'Good Times' as a good song, too

I seem to remember that when DIET COKE was first introduced, there was a Diet Coke TV commercial that used Gloria Gaynor’s _I Will Survive_ song.

Good music 🎉
Prince... I Wanna Be Your Lover 🎵
Sad eyes by Robert john was cool ! I bet no one remembers him
Back when a frumpy little bearded dude with a high voice could have a hit.
Have you ever heard of Ed Sheeran?
That song is so annoying.....basically singing about using someone and attempting to look like the bigger person
There should be a Grammy category for Best Prom Dance Song (of the year.) Every singer should strive to create at least one iconic Prom Dance song.
100% agree!
#7 Hot Stuff... I remember Gary Pressy, the Wrigley Field Organiat, playing it on the Lowrey.
At this time, I deep into Parliament /Funkadelic. Yeah, Aqua Boogie baby and Prince Soft and Wet.
Do you know that Chic first title to that song was "F●ck off" when they couldn't get in Studio 54. Oh, I love Nile Rogers.

That's my all time favorite song.
Love that song! So funny you mention it. I was actually looking for it earlier today!
That old song is great, on my workout list and I'm 64!
I think I would’ve put EWF’s Boogie Wonderland and after the love is gone on this list.
I Will Survive's Grammy is the only one ever for the disco genre.
How could you possibly leave out Donna Summers biggest hit and only
no 1, which was in that year.!!!!
@@MarkGardiner-g2y Donna Summer had 4 #1's on the Billboard Hot 100.
@michaelmcmahon1855 Not in Britain she didn't. Only 1, I feel love.
@@MarkGardiner-g2y You didn't mention anything about Britain in your original comment. Donna Summer had 4 #1's in the USA.
