There's like a thousand fucking covers of this song, where it's played note to note like a robot, and then someone decides to produce something more creative and it gets all this hate. Go watch those other covers if you wish to learn the song, and see the original drum parts 100%? This song ain't exactly rocket science. Guy has personality in his playing, most people don't. i respect this.

Variety is one of the big reasons I love your covers Coop. You toned it down in covering Bruno Mars and Rihanna and really added to those songs without overpowering them. Then you rock out to the Foo Fighters here! Keep up the great work man!
I noticed that sometime in your covers, you kinda "overplay", i mean: you add too much fills and stuff like that but I have to say that you're maybe the best drummer I've seen on youtube and I love your energy! rock on dude \m/
He is not doing a "cover" per say... he's more like improvising on a backing track song. This is what makes it different, all that extra that one did not think to add.
Most drum covers aren't exactly like the original. Drums are a great instrument to fool around on, because you can add different fills in different places while still playing the same beat/going along with the song. I liked his fills, I'd partially agree that he overplayed a little but to each our own.

eshay disdat clearly you either don’t play drums or are a beginner. One of the most important lessons that you learn is that more does not equal advanced. A lot of times more can make a song worse. A lot of the times, less is more.
Bichon Nation yeah, but that’s more when you’re playing with a band. When it’s literally just you, more is usually more exciting. There’s some great solos that expertly use spacing, but that’s not coopers style, and that’s okay.
My favourite song has not just been smashed, but DEMOLISHED by immense drumming, rebuilt with spirit, and played with energy that cannot be matched.

I've seen this kid do other songs, an you always get these wanna-be-mature sounding guys tryin to act like they could pull this off in their sleep, but they have a level of maturity that allows them not to sink to this busy playing. HA! WHAT CRAP! This kid is giving the song his style of playing, an like it or not, he's just a giant frickin middle finger of talent! He's deadly accurate, does exactly what he wants, an I'm willing to bet most of the negative comments about him couldn't pull his style off ever! Like I said before kid, I tip my hihats to you!
Spot on - music evolves as time goes by and a lot of drummers who played in clubs and bars etc were doing the same routines night after night and playing the same stuff over and over without any progression in their style or ability. Somebody new comes on the scene with more ability and style, and all of a sudden they realise they have been stuck in a bubble for years going nowhere and not honing their drumming style or ability. What do they do ? Slag the person that is going places with their style and ability. Sad persons indeed and stuck in a big rut of their own making

With all of your stick tricks you stay right in beat, everything is smooth, and you have a amazing feel of your kit. You clearly know what your doing very good job.

'I didn't want to add to add too much' he must have hated his cover then. I can see he's an amazing drummer but if Taylor wanted to play this drum part he could have as easily as Casey could. With other instruments in the band you don't need such an interesting and exciting drum part, sure it sounds good but a drum solo with no other instruments would sound good as well. This was not a drum cover but more of a drum solo at the same tempo. I play in a band and the drummer can play anything he wants but that's not what music is in most cases. there are songs for it but i think he should make it clearer that in a band you don't do this.
Yeah, it's ok drumming but not great musicianship. I guess this is a way one could play it, and has added all the fills as that's his thing to be fair. They would get you fired before the first chorus in most bands. It's not my cup of tea, but he literally has a million more followers than me!
Yeah, but if you’re only watching the drummer and only interested in the drumming, it’s a lot less boring this way. More isnt always better, but when it’s played well it’s almost always more interesting when considering only one instrument

The Pretender is one of my favorite songs to play and listen to and you my friend did it justice. Great cover keep up the awesome work.
Gonna preface with by saying I'm so jealous and I wish I could play this well, but there is such a thing as overplaying. Like I get adding your flavour to the song, in fact that's so much better than playing it note for note, but when you're adding a fill to basically every bar you just start losing interest.

Sure never occurred to any band that's ever done a cover that it should be done by the book. The point of covering is to give it something new, its not called a relapse or a replay, its a cover, a new rendition. Sound of silence, land of confusion, and a bunch of other songs were covered by disturbed, none of them sound like the original but they're masterpieces that stay on the top charts. Don't neglect something just because its different

what really bothers me is that every drummer i see on here doing a cover to this song can't seem to leave their symbols alone in the beginning of this song for more than a second. it sounds like shit when you add the little "tings" in the beginning when there is no meaning for it.

Maybe not like shit but it definitely does NOT fit the song. Yes, Cooper plays very good but that doesn't mean he gets to butcher every song by overplaying and thinking it's actually good. I'm not discounting his talent when I say this-he IS incredibly good at drums-but this cover had a lot of added notes (particularly on cymbals) and it is odd to listen to. I think I prefer a cover closer to the actual recording, but that's just me

I know doing drum covers is about having fun and adding your own style, but the double bass and all those random fills... that is just way too much in my opinion. I mean it looks cool and all, but it's kinda exhausting to listen to and overall it's just too busy. It kinda hurts the song in a way. But thats just my opinion

I am a dedicated Foo Fighters fan, and as a fellow drummer I understand you don't play covers perfectly and you add your own stuff, but Cooper saying "I didn't want to add too much" is hypocrisy personified. This song does not need a double bass pedal nor ridiculous fills (especially after the breakdown of the song), credit where credit is due this guy is talented, but I don't agree with retracting the essence from any song, let alone probably one of the best rock songs of all time. Gah. Play naturally, for music, moo.
