I have a question. I would like to maximize my beat money as well. Should I place every beat on all platforms? I speaking on all the beats that I plan to lease out to rap artist?
Yes it's not a bad idea to have your beats on all platforms! Spotify is my main focus because I like them best, but I have listeners on all streaming platforms. And yes even beats that I sell on BeatStars/my website are on streaming platforms. There's a market for people who want to buy rap beats, and there's a market for those who listen to instrumental music without intention to purchase. I've been trying to cater to both those audiences.
@@omitobeats2 thank you so much for replying. I'll do the same now that I know. But now I gotta figure out how to find listeners... Playlisting is so difficult😐 definitely for beats.
I feel that! Right now there are definitely a lot more playlists for songs, but that doesn't mean that instrumental playlists aren't out there! Just gotta do some digging and reaching out to curators.
@@omitobeats2 quick question is Spotify the only site you would allpw distrokid to upload to? I'm asking this because other sites may let user download for like $1?
Yeah when I was uploading a handful of them I did! Either way, it's always good to schedule your release for at least 3 weeks out and then pitch it through Spotify for Artists. That way you have better odds of it ending up in one of Spotify's editorial playlists since you're giving them more time to review it.
@@prod_sini yeah. if you select it you make back the money from youtube streams via your channel and any other channel that uses your stuff. so i say go click that option bro
Good question - I don't think there's a clear right or wrong answer! Personally I've been picking & choosing, but I also wish I had my entire catalog on there so people could listen to everything.
Wow, thank you. Regular old school songwriter dude, I wrote a little poem for my buddy, and went looking for an instrumental groove to kinda rap to, and bumped into your music on youtube. It was only 30 seconds, and I found a short bit in an instrumental album that was super right. what happens then, I ask to lease that beat, can you walk me thru that, or point me in the right direction? You are much appreciated here. xxx Buzz edit: I believe the track is called Later.
Yeah! At least.. that's what I'm currently working on. In the past I've just uploaded select beats to streaming services, but right now I'm working on dumping my full catalog onto streaming services. I figure that nobody can easily rip beats off of streaming services and it's more for listening purposes. It'll also be easier to use my beats in Reels/TikTok videos.
Omi B - What service would you recommend that actually keeps count of every time that your song is played on the radio *(so that you may received accurate pay from radio play?)*
Would you say that selling beats is easier to make money off of than making songs with lyrics to your beats and making money as an artist and producer?
The 99 cents is the 'purchase price' - like if someone were to buy the track off of iTunes for example. Spotify pays you a streaming rate which is different than a sale on your track. Spotify doesn't allow people to buy music, only stream it. So their whole system is different from iTunes (or the 'old method', where people bought music song-by-song). The streaming royalties are different because the money comes from users' subscriptions + companies buying ads on the platform. So they worked it to to paying artists roughly $0.004 per stream. Other platforms can give artists more or less per stream than that. I think UA-cam does $0.0003, for example. And with iTunes, even though a track is priced at 99 cents you won't receive that full 99 cents either. Apple is likely to take a cut of that. It's all the cost of doing business in the new music industry - but these small streaming royalties can add up. Especially if you get added to a few playlists and have your tracks played thousands of times. For example, if you had 100,000 plays on Spotify you'd earn about $400. It all adds up!
Great video! Doesn't uploading music to Spotify interfere with beat leasing? And what do you do if someone wants to buy a beat exclusively that's on Spotify?
haha all good! Most of the times it's never been an issue but if an Artist wants it removed from Spotify it's an easy process and only takes a few days for it to be removed from there.
Sorry just seeing your video. My quesiton is how does this work if YOU as a producer upload this beat to spotify and then you in turn lease the same beat to multiple people and THEY then upload the beat to spotify with their lyrics on the same beat? Will the beat get flagged? Just wondering.. you aren't the first to use this method but no one I've heard seems to have directly addressed this..
I have an artist that is planning on buying exclusive rights from here, I’m so lost. Anyways I have two of my beats out featuring him on it distributed on my distro kid. If he buys exclusive rights is it okay if the song is still on my distro kid? The reason it’s on mine is because his distro kid is unactive currently.
Sounds like a situation where it'd be best to discuss with him to see what he wants/is comfortable with. I've had beats that have sold exclusively that I still have on Distrokid/UA-cam for listening purposes. Other times the buyer has requested me to remove the beat from all platforms. It's a case-by-case basis but as long as you and the buyer are on agreement there's no right or wrong answer to selling exclusives.

All facts. Been posting beats to Spotify, Apple Music, etc. since 2018. Best decision EVER.

Are we able to post beats on streaming platforms but then turn around and sell the same beats to artist through beatstars?
nevermind I think you answered in a way. I posted the question before the video ended lol
Would you say that selling beats is easier to make money off of than making songs with lyrics to your beats and making money as an artist and producer?
Yea. The thing is you have to create a beat project that has a consistent theme.
Agreed! That's something I struggle with sometimes 😅😆
Ok so if I post a beat on DistroKid for 99 cents, why does Spotify only pay like 5 cents a play?
The 99 cents is the 'purchase price' - like if someone were to buy the track off of iTunes for example. Spotify pays you a streaming rate which is different than a sale on your track.
