There is one little "issue" with UA-cam Money. If you upload your songs and select genres like Hip-Hop or Electronic Music, the "UA-cam Money" option will disappear. But if you select other genres, like pop, DistroKid will additionally ask you if all the sounds in your song are completely original. In other words, if you use ANY sound, or ANY instrument, or ANY loops, in GarageBand, Ableton Live, totally legal loops downloaded from Stripe, or whatever other services, you CANNOT select "UA-cam Money". This, I believe, is a problem created by UA-cam, where they had too many songs wrongfully claimed by their automatic service because a lot of people use the same loops to create their songs. Even Justin Bieber had issues over a loop he used from Splice lol. There's a lot of controversy in this because I could create Electronic Music without using any loops or sounds and yet DistroKid doesn't show that option as soon as you select Electronic Music or Hip Hop.

I believe that the ISRC code you get for any song you distribute, belongs to your name (you also have to enter your actual name). That also ensures people know you have the copyright.
If you're only starting out, I'd say distrokid over tunecore. CDbaby had so many negative things surrounding it that I ruled it our early. Tunecore can work if you're only putting out a little bit of music. If you're looking to release weekly or monthly and really build up a catalog but don't have tens of thousands of streams to make the money back, then tunecore with the $10 per song per year will get very expensive. I'd say start off on distrokid just to get an unlimited amount of songs out for only $20 a year, then once you create a buzz and have a significant amount of streams then I'd say move to tunecore to make sure you get all of your royalties. Tunecore covers more areas of royalty collection, so it will get you the most money from your music as long as you have enough streams to sustain the $10 per song per year fees. If you don't then my advice is to go with distrokid.

Despite all the problems I’ve had with distrokid, it’s still the best service for this. If I was a millionaire, I’d probably go with something that’s a one time fee option over a subscription service, but for the smaller artist? It is *the* service
Hey Sanjay, thanks for the video. Very informative. Lots of love from India. Just wanted to ask a few things. I am a guitar player. I am planning to make a few instrumental covers before I can upload some original content on YT and Streaming apps via Distrokid. And to be popular on UA-cam itself, I need to upload on a regular basis. So if say upload 1 cover song instrumental per week, I will have 48 songs. Now I have a to pay 48x12= 576 dollars per year! That's insane right? I do want to upload original stuff, but hoe do I get my channel a subscriber base before?
@moojic boi - Posting cover songs on DistroKid will be expensive, yes. I suggest posting them for free on UA-cam and Soundcloud only. And try to build an audience like that. Building an audience takes time, so its probably a better idea to build it first on UA-cam and then once you have a good following, then you can tell them that they can listen on Spotify, and slowly start uploading through DistroKid.

Thanks for this, Sanjay! Distrokid's been under fire a lot lately, because of "editorial discretion" removal of releases and "thanks, but you need to find another distributor for your music". I've had friends with quality music release their stuff through DK this year and late last year and all of a sudden, it's gone for that reason. Distrokid blames iTunes and Amazon Music for the choice, but there's no reason for it, whatsoever. Artwork is fine, music is completely original (and high-quality recordings/writing). I advise everyone out there to instead, use CDbaby. They're more expensive (and were the first to offer not only an online music store pre-digital music, but the first to offer digital distro to all the services out there). I've had no issues with them for 16 years. Just an FYI to everyone out there.
Attention: Using content id on distrokid will block your streaming with your own music on. This is very annoying and penalizing the UA-cam channel. I cant believe how is possible that Distrokid didnt consider a issue like this.
You've been a Big help to me Sanjay :-) All questions were answered carefully and accurately. There are many videos explaining different points about DistroKid but yours is what I found with sincerity and without bias. Thank you Sanjay C. 🙂
I have released my song through Distrokid to UA-cam . Contend ID identified in my release but few other people have uploaded my video in their channel . It’s not still identified copyright claim endorsement on their video. Do you have any idea ?
Thank you so much Sanjay C! That cleared things out for me, I just uploaded my single to distrokid then availed their service for "Content ID", but now, I am uploading my OWN created video for an Official Audio of my song. And you're correct about the "Interstreet Recordings" who is claiming my OWN song! I got confused for a while on what to do, but thanks to you, it's not that hard to think eventually! hahaha! Thank you!
So this "Topic" Channel that distro kid makes, am I in control of it? Can I post videos like music videos or other general announcements on that UA-cam Channel? Thanks
Effron White gets copyright strikes sometimes on live videos when he performs his own music. CD Baby is looking out for his copyrights and their system automatically tags songs written by him that aren't the official release from one of his 4 CDs. There's a link next to the notification of the copyright strike that tells you how to contest the strike. Just fill in that form they have. Hope that helps.
Sanjay, as always, thank you so much for all the information. My question is about sampling. I have used distrokid for my first simple album upload and when they ask for info about each song, sampling is a big no no. However, a lot of hip-hop producers have used sampling to make tracks. For example, you can get license from tracklib for a song that you can sample. How do you get around that on distrokid? Thanks in advance :)
Great video. WhT if already have a personal you tube account but you dont want to use it as your professional one? Which box would you check on distrokid? WhT is the reason/benefit for choosing your own ISRC number?
I'm a producer and songwriter, and the creative force behind the whole project, however I am not the face and name of the project, but my singer is. My name is solely supposed to show up in the credits. Is it possible that I keep the full rights to my project? As I have heard DistroKid automatically adds the artist as the copyright owner.
Do you know whether Distrokid allows you to post cover song videos? I know you are allowed to post album art, but would also like to know if videos are allowed. Thanks!
Hi Sanjay, firstly great show. Just a quick question what if you’re using samples from a sample pack I’ve paid for like a vocal pack. What options do you pick on distrokid when uploading my song?
If you are using royalty-free samples (which is typical of sample packs), then you don't need to pick any options. When you buy a sample pack, you own the rights to use those samples in your music. The only thing you can't do with sample packs is sell those samples yourself.
Excelent video. A question: what about jazz standards like FLY ME TO THE MOON or MISTY... are there any fee to pay? Since the songwriters dies almost 50 years ago
If I asked one of my favourite streamers to listen to my track and he did live will he get in trouble or have trouble with monitising his video? Cause I don't want that to happen, I was just super appreciative that he listened and liked my track!

i woke up today with my song removed due to copyright infrigement. Its a remix of a song but I got permission from the original creators. The removal of this song ruined my whole account and now I went from a ton of listeners to like 10 monthly. Should I just quit music now?
BMI and ASCAP ARE the organizations that collect and pay you the royalties from broadcast/streaming performances, not just from bars and live performances. Is DistroKid setting themselves up to be a competitor to BMI/ASCAP for managing royalties? Just asking because of the minimizing of ASCAP/BMI. What are the advantages of using DistroKid over those platforms, please?
Hi sanjayC I created a lot of remixes of songs that someone else has done. do you know if I can upload my remixes and mixes on distrokid or will it be a problem? Very grateful for answers.
IF I wanted to do a duet with you and then release it all over the world... Do you think DistroKid would allow such an angelic voice to be on the track with you and then help release it?
Hello, I have good question : how if I stop dealing with distokid and I let my music available in the stores, who gonna pay me? From where I get my money , if no longer in contact with distokid?? Please help. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for all the videos Sanjay!! They're super helpful, and I could've missed a lot of plugins if it weren't for those freebie updates! hehe. I was wondering if distrokid will stop monetizing our artist-topic account if we were to create an official youtube artist account? Thank you again for all the help you've given to us musicians!
Hello, so I did a song with someone else’s instrumental. No vocals on original song though. Reach out to the owner but I didn’t get any feedback, will it be a problem if I release it like that?
Good video. I got my new Royalties a few days ago. For some reason Distrokid only payed me out for like a quarter of the streams for September. Last month it was the same and I thought I’ll get the rest this month but I got even less. That’s quite frustrating because I got a lot streams last month with Spotify algorithm playlists. Hope you can help me ✌🏻
Sanjay - - I have a question *Will DistroKid count the number of times that a song is played on the radio?* If not what program will/and it's price? (thanks)
What happens if you have music uploaded prior to selecting the legacy option (since it's an additional option). Will attaining that option cover the previously recorded songs? Or does it roll out only to newer ones from there-on-in?.
Hey Sanjay C my question is if you and another person are going to drop a song together you will need to make 2 Spotify accounts and everything else ? I’m kinda confused on how that works and also Pay twice for distrokid or no ?
Hi Sanjay, Great videos ... I'm a pro musician myself and into quite a lot of stuff. A quick question - I have many backing tracks which I've made 100% myself ... (no original samples or anything from the original song used in those backing tracks) can I distribute these via Distrokid legally without any hassle.
Pal how to input credits in description for (movie)cover songs, from where we need to pull those details. Also explain how much revenue for us and how much for producers, kindly make a separate video, in searching for this nearly 20 days in youtube but couldn't figured out any.
Hi, I find the support to be VERY laggy, I still have questions unanswered since 20 days ago, if ever... One question troubles me deeply and I can't find the answer nowhere, and the support is not answering. Do Distrokid modifies the format of the file before sending it to the streaming outlets? If I upload 96Khz 24bit, will the stores receive this format, or Distrokid dumbs it down to 44Khz 16bit before sending it to the stores? Thank you.
This is a question more about the copyright stuff.... when you copyright your song can you go ahead and release the song same day or same week or do you have to give it time or wait to release?? I’m really new to all this music copyrights and stuff. Also what other legal things should I take care of before releasing a song or album (copyright, registering song)??
Excellent video as always, Sanjay - I just have one question: At $12 a year license fee its going to take quite a few streams to break even on a cover, so if a song tanks and does not become profitable - if I were to withdraw/delete the song from my library, does the monthly fee cease automatically? Or do I have to also contact DistroKid in some additional way to stop the $1 a month payments?
Hi i have a question . For musician Plus , it says 2 artists or Band . We are a duo , we want to upload music as solos ( 2 artists ) and band ( at times ) . Is that possible in Musician plus ?
First of all, great video👍🏼 I have some Q. If I release a cover via Distrokid, do I need to be worry about being sued, or does distrokid have my back? For example. I have been declined by a record company to release a cover song. (I don't know why?) If I choose to try to go via distrokid instead, and then get a O.K from distrokid, is that 100% legal? Does distrokid have another approach of getting licenses, or do they go the same way (trough the rights holders)? Keep up the good work❤
My question is that before and after I signed up for distrokid I have had visuals for my songs up on my UA-cam I was wondering how can I get the license for it so I can get payed for the visuals because that is where I get the most views for my songs please can you help me with that my Artist name is KāyPēsos Thank You for reading this,
Hi, I'm a songwriter and producer. The songs I wrote are performed by different artists. Should I use the "Label" plan to upload only my songs (I'm a songwriter and producer but songs are preformed by different artist) or I can also use the "musician plus" plan? Best regards!
Your videos are great! How does Distrokid work if I'm not the actual performer? In others word the artist wrote the lyrics, but I did all of the music?
Yo i have been usin distrokid since last two years. I have the musician plus plan. Can i upload a song which features me plus two other artists? I mean is it possible to mention them in the artist thing and not just in (feat.) ? Bit urgent. Would appreciate your reply
This is an important question. If somebody were to dispute a copyright claim in regards of the use of my music. How do I get the notification that somebody has submitted a dispute in which how can I determine if the dispute gets rejected or accepted?
This bears repeating. The Legacy option is only if your Credit Card cannot be charged and your annual subscrption expires. It is not clear for how many days DKid will keep your music on the different platforms. Also applicable is death. If you happen to die and did pay for the Legacy option per song then those songs will remain online. Also noticed that people are confusing royalty types in comments below. DKid will only collect mechanical royalties from the services that users can choose what to play (i.e. interactive). (1) They do NOT collect traditional performance royalties. Those get collected by PROs such as BMI, Ascap, or Sesac. Good luck getting paid from any of those. (2) DKid also does not collect performance royalties from the non~interactive digital platforms. You need to register with SoundExchange for that revenue stream to happen. (3) DKid also does NOT handle sync licensing royalties. YTube is a gold mine of info. Take the time to study this.
Hello Sanjay! Could you tell me... if I upload a music with DistroKid... they will create a ISRC for my music? Im asking this because I already using a system supplied by the Musicians Association that I belong to create this codes for my songs....
I have a track dropping the 26th but i also created a Animated cover that i intent to upload on youtube. How shoukd i go about it? can i still droppin the video after my song drop or do i do before?
Thanks for the video. I wanted to ask a question. I want to sell my songs on digital stores like Spotify. How do I use the isrc code? Am I supposed to enter it myself? If so, where?
bro i have more than 5 million views and $600 in profits, but I woke up to find that all my music had been deleted and all my money had been withdrawn. Is there a way to recover it? ( Mostly copyright)
Just perfect and simple explanation as you always do :) Thanks a lot!!! I read a few articles about Distrokid and it seems that they are connected also to Beatport. Do you know if I distribute my EP with dance music content via Distrokid is it automatically sent to Beatport?
How long does it take for youtube content ID to recognize your tune that you used for a separate video? Follow up: does it have to be the exact wav/mp3 I used for upload or will the audio still be recognized regardless of the edit?
Please make a video on how to avoid accidental copyright infringement? What can happen if I release a song on spotify that sounds like somebody else's song? Can the file a lawsuit against me if I have not formally registered my work?
i got a question so when i uploaded my song "the art track" i click it, it then goes to my music video how do i set that up for all my songs that got videos been digging have n0t got any help
I use DistroKid and one of the biggest problems is that their customer service, for me, has been terrible. It takes a really long time to get a response to a problem and, when the first solution does not work, you have to wait just as long for another response. It's infuriating.

Audiam may have stopped representig your music for content id what kind of music do you make
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks
hi if i upload music on destrokid will i get any copyright strike .. if yes then how to remove it..
No, why would you?
You'll only get copyright strikes if it's not your music and someone else already owns the copyright
You cannot upload remixes to DK. If you make original music you’ve got nothing to worry about
Effron White gets copyright strikes sometimes on live videos when he performs his own music. CD Baby is looking out for his copyrights and their system automatically tags songs written by him that aren't the official release from one of his 4 CDs. There's a link next to the notification of the copyright strike that tells you how to contest the strike. Just fill in that form they have. Hope that helps.
@@aldo6532 aye I be rapping of free beats but I distribute to distro kid would I get copy right
Sanjay, as always, thank you so much for all the information. Thanks in advance :)
hey sanjay! great video!! btw whats the beat thats playing in the outro did u upload this beat somewhere? it sounds so sick!! i liked and subscribed!!
Hey, I made it. I make all the music in my videos, except in the Saturday News Reports where I feature other artists/viewers.
Sanjay C thanks 🙏
Excelent video. A question: what about jazz standards like FLY ME TO THE MOON or MISTY... are there any fee to pay? Since the songwriters dies almost 50 years ago
If I asked one of my favourite streamers to listen to my track and he did live will he get in trouble or have trouble with monitising his video? Cause I don't want that to happen, I was just super appreciative that he listened and liked my track!
Sanjay Thank You brother! Excellent videos! 👍🌟🙏
My pleasure
THIS VDO HELPED ME A LOT THANK YOU SANJAY ! HOW TO UPGRADE FROM MUSICIAN TO MUSICIAN PLUS PLAN ? DOES IT TAKES NEW EMAIL ID AND SERIOUS OTHER STUFF LIKE YOU TOLD IN THE VIDEO OF DOWNGRADING THE PLAN
With the cover licence through Distrokid, will the cover song only be available in the US or also in Europe ? Thanks !
I have a question. When I go through Distrokid, and then use my own music in a different video, say like on TikTok, I get the sound removed. How can I use my own music and not have this happen?
THANKYOU
You're welcome!
Been lil late..... luv frm india 🇮🇳
Much love 🇮🇳
@Sanjay C , I have a question... I have a label plan... I do have my own artist profile , and I already my SPOTIFY for artist, now my question is, I have another artist, how can I create a SPOTIFY for artist ( for her) so she can monitor her account/artist profile..Thanks
Man thank you so much, your content is straight to the point and inspiring! Subscribed instantly you have really helped me so far 🙏🏻
Hey sanjay, I want to use the distrokid link in your bio,
so I was wondering if action music videos and lyrical videos {music video that was shoot with a camera }for my song can be distributed with distrokid??
And how to do so??
Please help me with a response
i am a fan of yours and thank you again for your youtube videos ,they are very helpful.
Thank You
i woke up today with my song removed due to copyright infrigement. Its a remix of a song but I got permission from the original creators. The removal of this song ruined my whole account and now I went from a ton of listeners to like 10 monthly. Should I just quit music now?
same shit i lost about 600$ and 7 million view
BMI and ASCAP ARE the organizations that collect and pay you the royalties from broadcast/streaming performances, not just from bars and live performances. Is DistroKid setting themselves up to be a competitor to BMI/ASCAP for managing royalties? Just asking because of the minimizing of ASCAP/BMI. What are the advantages of using DistroKid over those platforms, please?
Hi sanjayC
I created a lot of remixes of songs that someone else has done. do you know if I can upload my remixes and mixes on distrokid or will it be a problem?
Very grateful for answers.
A question nobody ever answered (PLZ HELP): Can I delete the Cover license by just deleting the cover-song??
Hi Sanjay C, I want to know if mixes are supported when it comes to distrokid.
IF I wanted to do a duet with you and then release it all over the world... Do you think DistroKid would allow such an angelic voice to be on the track with you and then help release it?
Height of overconfidence lmao 😂
Let me consult with DistroKid about heavenly music first.
musqitone lolll 🤷🏽♀️
Sanjay C Ok. Please get back to me ASAP. I have a lot of important things going on and I’m a really busy person.

We are band of 4 artists which plan should we choose on distrokid?
Brilliant job my friend. Concise, well said, and super informative.
Wow thank you for the UA-cam topic one, always pissed me off how it posted to a topic with like 1 follower, didn't know it could be changed
No problem. Glad it was helpful!
Pal how to input credits in description for (movie)cover songs, from where we need to pull those details.
Also explain how much revenue for us and how much for producers, kindly make a separate video, in searching for this nearly 20 days in youtube but couldn't figured out any.
Really useful, thanks Sanjay!
Man, A Thousand Suns is such a great album🔥
Hi, I find the support to be VERY laggy, I still have questions unanswered since 20 days ago, if ever...
One question troubles me deeply and I can't find the answer nowhere, and the support is not answering. Do Distrokid modifies the format of the file before sending it to the streaming outlets? If I upload 96Khz 24bit, will the stores receive this format, or Distrokid dumbs it down to 44Khz 16bit before sending it to the stores? Thank you.
Tbh From what am seeing I would say yes it modifies it to what it likes smh
I also have the same doubt. Can anyone clarify this?
Hi i have a question . For musician Plus , it says 2 artists or Band . We are a duo , we want to upload music as solos ( 2 artists ) and band ( at times ) . Is that possible in Musician plus ?
Actually I Am A DJ
Can I Upload Any DJ Remix Track On Distrokid (Platforms)
And If Will I Get My Artist Tag
Thank you so much.
First of all, great video👍🏼
I have some Q.
If I release a cover via Distrokid, do I need to be worry about being sued, or does distrokid have my back?
For example.
I have been declined by a record company to release a cover song.
(I don't know why?)
If I choose to try to go via distrokid instead, and then get a O.K from distrokid, is that 100% legal?
Does distrokid have another approach of getting licenses, or do they go the same way (trough the rights holders)?
Keep up the good work❤
My question is that before and after I signed up for distrokid I have had visuals for my songs up on my UA-cam
I was wondering how can I get the license for it so I can get payed for the visuals
because that is where I get the most views for my songs please can you help me with that my Artist name is KāyPēsos
Thank You for reading this,
Hi, I'm a songwriter and producer.
As always very informative thank you Sanjey I appreciate your videos
If I could hit the like button twice, I would!
This is an important question. If somebody were to dispute a copyright claim in regards of the use of my music. How do I get the notification that somebody has submitted a dispute in which how can I determine if the dispute gets rejected or accepted?
Do you have to give 12 dollars for each and every cover track you upload? Or is it just a flat fee?
Halo sanjay, what abot sing from suno ai, is it can release from distrikid?
If I choose the "Leave a Legacy" option and stop paying the membership, how do I receive the earnings from the songs?
Thank You for this video Sir 🙏👍 I register and started my distrokid just today using your affiliate link.
Thank you
As always Sanjay making great videos! Thanks!!!
Did you solve this?
How long does it take for youtube content ID to recognize your tune that you used for a separate video? Follow up: does it have to be the exact wav/mp3 I used for upload or will the audio still be recognized regardless of the edit?
Please make a video on how to avoid accidental copyright infringement? What can happen if I release a song on spotify that sounds like somebody else's song? Can the file a lawsuit against me if I have not formally registered my work?
Great Video, But I have one doubt, Can I use distrokid license for my UA-cam videos??? Will it remove my copyright claims???
i got a question so when i uploaded my song "the art track" i click it, it then goes to my music video how do i set that up for all my songs that got videos been digging have n0t got any help
Great information. Greatly appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
I use DistroKid and one of the biggest problems is that their customer service, for me, has been terrible. It takes a really long time to get a response to a problem and, when the first solution does not work, you have to wait just as long for another response. It's infuriating.
Appreciate the knowledge is there any way around uploading your music using your own upc code or is it just frankly not possible?
Heynice vid :), the cover license is worldwide or just for US?
