That's a great question that I intend to explore in the future, but for now, perhaps originally it wasnt a warp 4 vessel but upgraded later in it's life!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I was thinking its relatively high NCC number (326) could be explained by the fact that the Federation had just been formed by several member races, and as such, inherited their navies. The Franklin would have been far from the oldest ship still commissioned, especially given that the UFP probably needed every ship it could get against the Romulans at the time. A quick retrofit with some spare Warp 4 engines from around the time of the Intrepid prototypes, and a couple of extra phase cannons, and you've got a halfway decent patrol, science, and training vessel for a few years.
I believe you did two other major developments a disservice by not adding them to you list. Artificial gravity and inertial dampeners are both amazing developments that enable warp drive to work and long journeys in space possible.
Had it gone past season 4, does anyone think we would have seen the refit NX-01? You know, the refit that added an engineer ing 2ndary hull and thus make the nx class fall more in line with the look of later starships?
I can see it as a natural progression of the warp core which needed it's own module to centralize the warp drive with the nacelles. Main engineering would still be two decks aft in the saucer section to easily monitor and control both the warp drive and impulse drive. The secondary hull would then be used to house the shuttle bay and all of it's support systems, navigation and communication systems, and storage holds. The main saucer section could then be refitted to expand crew quarters as well as the various science labs and of course the improved weapons systems. There you have it, a proto Constitution class starship. I have a question. I mean Xindi are supposed to get into the Federation, and by the time of TNG they probably have since in most maps there's not a "Xindi Territory" bubble. So what made starfleet decide to use warp drives instead of the propulsion the Xindi used? It seemed pretty efficient to me.
I think the Xindi technology was mostly dependent on the spatial curvature of the Expanse to function and once the Sphere Network began to collapse and normal curvature of space/time returned their drives may not have worked as well as they had previously. Just conjecture though.
@@witchdoctor1394 yes a very intresting and plausible possibilty! That also mean they probably had to refit most their ships making me wonder what they'd look like since they had so many different and cool ships
Where did Starfleet get its shield emitter technology? Didcthey develop it during the Human/Romulan War or was it made available to Starfleet when it was chartered into the founding of the Federation and through political cooperation was just given it my either the Tellarites, Andorians or Vulcans?
In an alternate timeline episode of Enterprise in season 3 (call Twilight) the Andorians are the ones that give that tech to humanity... So I guess in the real timeline it probably wouldnt be such a stretch for them to also give it to them after joining the Federation....
I think one of the most interesting facts of Trek is how in reality there are only 2 types of weapons. Phasers or Disruptors. obviously the Federation uses Phaser tech, and the Klingons use Disruptors in their most pure forms. Other races have found interesting ways of developing and altering the technology. Romulan Plasma weapons for example are based on Disruptor technology lacing a disruptor beam with high energy plasma to cause a burning caustic effect to their weapons, while Ferengi Plasma weapons are based on Phaser technology which lack this burn while having pinpoint cutting abilities. The Cardassians use a Hybrid of sorts, while often called only Disruptors, cardassian weapons us a mixture of both Disruptor and Phaser technology in the same weapon in what is called a Spiral Wave disruptor which has the properties of both weapon types.
Triangulum: "These early versions of the transporter, though, were not without their faults and malfunctions." Me: See also-- Star Trek: the Motion Picture. 🙂
Considering most all shield defenses of all races were to protect against energy weapons, you would think kinetic based weapons (i.e you know, BULLETS and MISSLES) would still be used. Unless, of course, the shields could also stop kinetic type projectiles as well.
Deflector technology should render kinetic energy weapons useless. Deflectors prevent collisions with objects at warp speed so sublight munitions should be trivial to deflect depending on size/mass. There are Canon examples of large objects colliding with starships (stray debris from other ships for example) but that hardly counts as a weapon. The Kelvin timeline technology doesn't seem to have this type of protection, hence the point defense phasers on most of the KT Starfleet vessels. Even then, unless the munitions were guided, it'd be pretty difficult to hit even an Enterprise-sized target at the speed of space combat.
What bothers me in Star Trek: Enterprise isn't the Vulcans or the characters. The warp mechanics and technological inconsistencies annoy me so much. What happened to "faster than light, no left or right"? That being said, I really enjoyed that show and it really is a shame they only did 4 seasons
"faster than light, no left or right" because they had not yet learned to adjust plasma flows to the individual nacelles thus affecting the shape of the warp field and using it to alter the flight path at warp. It would look more like a car changing lanes on the highway than the warp speed dog fight maneuvers they show. LOL
The "faster than light, no left or right" is from Voyager. And they explain that the forces would be too big for the ship to handle. But I'm no warp mechanics scientist so idk
So many things I love about the tech of Trek almost always deal with one of these three things. Oh... You brought up Cochren and I was wondering what your take was on the Cochern born on Alpha Centari vs the Cochern born on Earth? Personally, I believe both are true, just different timelines. Similar to the WW-3 scenario in the 1990s. I also believe that the hiccups in timelines are why Temporal Investigations was created but just wanted to get your opinions.
Metamorphosis actually never states he was born on Alpha Cent... All Kirk says was, "Zefram Cochrane of Alpha Centauri" which could just mean he lives there. This is supported later on by McCoy saying he was fully human... So it's likely after the warp 2 engine was made he helped colonized Alpha Cent! And became a person of that world! So there is no real issue there in canon :)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios - Huh... That's a great way to look at it that I never thought of. Thank you. Now, I just need to figure out the philosophy of the death/life duality of the transporter. :-D
Your welcome... For me it just all makes sense... After all Zef was a pioneer and made arguably the most important invention in human history... I could see him not really wanting the limelight and fame and wanting to retire to some out of the way place, which wouldnt have been an Earth Based place... So his adventurer took him to Alpha Cent :)
Enterprise was a pseudo prequel that used terms like phase cannons instead of phasers to demonstrate it was a different era. It on the other hand NEVER used authentic early Cage/TOS terms like "time-warp factor" or Vulcanian.
Like it - but, sry, there is another open question, how did they manage to get artificial gravity and how do they adjust it in sharp - multiple-g - turns....?
NX o 1 or NX 0 1? Drives me nuts that the zero is read an "o". I don't know if it's my nerdiness or military background that's causing me to notice this detail.
The bit about the NX-01 stopping the Xindi weapon being well documented by Starfleet made me laugh. It’s so well documented that no one in the 23rd and 24th centuries even acknowledges Enterprise’s existence, presumably because Archer was such an embarrassment they deleted all record of him. TBH the Temporal Cold War could have solved all that had it been written by competent writers...
That's silly logic, why WOULD they reference it? I dont go around referencing WW2 or the Civil War etc very often... Then add to that we see a week or mores worth of time condensed in to 45 mins and you think that the reference, which has nothing to do with what the episode is about, should be made... Doesnt really make sense at all does it?
I never really understood why the Vulcans tried to slow down the humans. I mean, what is the benefit in going slow when they are not on the verge to a meaningful advancement with their own warpdrives? Even if they manage to slow down the humans considerably, it will not make them stop making large advances in warpdrive technology. So, the whole premise for the Vulcans to slow down the humans makes no sense, simply because the Vulcans, other than a useless timestretch, did not gain any advantage out of it.
I grew quite tired of him in the early seasons, a bit like Picard. Poking his nose into other peoples business, his morals and ethics exceeded other cultures, etc. Mmmm reminds me of the US.
To be fair, while NX class is the official designation, Enterprise class wouldn't be entirely wrong since most ship classes share their name with the first ship of the class either ordered, laid down or launched. Explorer class would be a bit less accurate, but its mission as a ship of exploration does mean one could call it an explorer class vessel, but it would be a more general descriptor.
I have a better question, how did he power his warp drive? There were no dilithium crystals to control a matter/antimatter reaction. So was it powered by a fission reaction?
I thought the same thing, it wasn't really built to use air friction to slow, then land. I suppose it could have folded the nacelles back in, then landed the same way the Falcon 9 makes re-entry and lands. Before Elon, I wouldn't have thought that possible, but...
@@capnahayes They are already working on anti-matter propulsion now so a AM spiked fusion reactor would be powerful enough for Warp 0ne. No dilithium needed.
I think the replicator must be one of the more important inventions too. If only for the implied consequences in economic terms for the federation and humanity in general.
I wonder why Artificial Gravity, Inertial Dampening Systems, Structural Integrity Fields, and Navigational Deflectors never get any love...! And what about the unsung hero of electromagnetic shielding to defend the crew against cosmic radiation and gamma rays, etc. (Even though the NX-01 didn't have "Shields" in the same sense of the "Deflector Screens" of the Constitution Class, or the advanced shields as in the Galaxy Class, when a ship is using a Matter/Antimatter Reactor it is producing an electromagnetic field similar but much smaller in scale to Earth's magnetic field.) Without these basic protections, there can be no deep space exploration! I guess they're just not as sexy as "go fast, teleport, pew pew pew!!!"
LOL Thank you so much! And thank you for taking the time to comment :) I guess it's all just personal opinion really... Though I may in future do videos on those very topics ;)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios But, it's like their means of communication through the cosmos! xD I mean, yeah, the ability to "pew pew" effectively is great and all, but hopefully that all happens after comms have been established and tried first.
LOL The ability to get somewhere I think is far more important, and The ability to protect yourself is far more important, and the ability to quickly get out of harms way is more important... But it's all personal opinion right? :)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I'd much prefer getting chatty with all the neat new alien faces than having to shoot them in said faces. But that's just me, lol.
Going to nit-pick some here, but why are you assuming that Warp 2 in the 22nd century is the same as Warp 2 in the 23rd? Granted, there is no canon reason to contradict this but neither is there any to confirm it unless you count the updated Warp Scale used in TNG in which FTL speeds are significantly faster than TOS. That very fact should strongly suggest that warp drive technology and the resulting speed scales were never a constant but updated periodically. It could be just as easily assumed that Warp 2 during the 22nd century was 2c rather than 8c as it is in the 23rd. Perhaps as a result of captured Romulan tech during the Earth-Romulan War or from some actual engineering help from the Vulcans, although I think the captured Romulan tech more likely.
Canon doesnt work that way... The only time the warp scale was changed was for the 24th Century. Also, on screen references to warp speed in Enterprise confirms the warp scale given in TOS! Along with the production team for the series. And so like the Majority of fans thats enough proof for all us all!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios, correct. Canon does not work that way but like many, I have watched Enterprise numerous times and have never seen or heard anything on screen that would confirm what you are saying about warp 2 in ENT being 8c.
If you can beam an entire assault force into the command centre of your enemy, why not just beam their entire command staff directly into -space- the brig?
As much as I enjoyed the idea of seeing the Federation born I really hated how they did the show. It was a real cluster fuck with the writing I hated how they made the Vulcans a bunch of space pricks the stupid time war crap. @@witchdoctor1394 yes a very intresting and plausible possibilty! That also mean they probably had to refit most their ships making me wonder what they'd look like since they had so many different and cool ships
6:15 - What episode of Enterprise is that scene from?
It's from Vanishing Point, Episode 10 of Season 2!

Great video my friend. Is the Harry Kim video coming? Lol sorry haven't asked that in a bit
LOL It's not on the schedule yet, but it IS on the to do list :)
Triangulum: "These early versions of the transporter, though, were not without their faults and malfunctions."

LOL
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios even half of voyager episodes are transporter accidents (Tuvix, the borg nanites in the docs emitter)
And good luck with that :P
I wonder what the coloured food cubes tasted like.
Pure Yum Im sure :P
They taste fine, I guess better than cardboard. Just don't eat the green ones, I heard some weird rumors what they're not actually made of plankton.
LOL
"Care to join me for cubes tonight?"
Enterprise was a pseudo prequel that used terms like phase cannons instead of phasers to demonstrate it was a different era. It on the other hand NEVER used authentic early Cage/TOS terms like "time-warp factor" or Vulcanian.
There's enough time in between Ent and the Cage, 100 years, for new terms to be added, developed or changed though, so I have no problem with that...
So when are we going to see a video on Section 31
Soon my friend, soon!
Like it - but, sry, there is another open question, how did they manage to get artificial gravity and how do they adjust it in sharp - multiple-g - turns....?
Inertial dampeners.
They have artificial gravity plates, and they counteract the g forces with inertial dampeners.
Transporters. AKA the death / cloning machines
I wouldn't set foot near one that's for sure.
NX o 1 or NX 0 1? Drives me nuts that the zero is read an "o". I don't know if it's my nerdiness or military background that's causing me to notice this detail.
Maybe a combo of both? :P
Matter synthesis must have been major.
We know so little about that breakthrough!
The reason why it didn't last was because of Scott Bakula, he was always too serious and the show never loosened up
I grew quite tired of him in the early seasons, a bit like Picard. Poking his nose into other peoples business, his morals and ethics exceeded other cultures, etc. Mmmm reminds me of the US.
NX Class
Explorer Class
Enterprise Class
Which one is it?
It's the NX Class, since that's what it's called in the series! And thus that is canon!
ANORAK!
Maybe a dumb question; anyone know how Cochrane planned to land his first ship?
LOL Through the magic of off screen plot? :P
Almost a title drop
LOL almost :P
The future doesn't seem very hopeful. We have yet to develop or physically test faster spacecraft engines.
I think the replicator must be one of the more important inventions too. If only for the implied consequences in economic terms for the federation and humanity in general.
Except that at this time they didnt HAVE replicators.... They had food resequencers and a galley....
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I see, that came in much later, and seems a bit of a plot point rather than tech.
I wonder why Artificial Gravity, Inertial Dampening Systems, Structural Integrity Fields, and Navigational Deflectors never get any love...!
And what about the unsung hero of electromagnetic shielding to defend the crew against cosmic radiation and gamma rays, etc. (Even though the NX-01 didn't have "Shields" in the same sense of the "Deflector Screens" of the Constitution Class, or the advanced shields as in the Galaxy Class, when a ship is using a Matter/Antimatter Reactor it is producing an electromagnetic field similar but much smaller in scale to Earth's magnetic field.)
Without these basic protections, there can be no deep space exploration! I guess they're just not as sexy as "go fast, teleport, pew pew pew!!!"
Still enjoyed the video though, love your work!!!
LOL Thank you so much! And thank you for taking the time to comment :) I guess it's all just personal opinion really... Though I may in future do videos on those very topics ;)
You forgot the first universal translator! :0
Hoshi was literally still developing it during ENT.
No I didnt forget it, it simply wasnt as important as the ones I chose to talk about!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios But, it's like their means of communication through the cosmos! xD
I mean, yeah, the ability to "pew pew" effectively is great and all, but hopefully that all happens after comms have been established and tried first.

❤❤❤❤❤✔✔✔😁😁😁
Then you need to go and watch it again :) :P
If you can beam an entire assault force into the command centre of your enemy, why not just beam their entire command staff directly into -space- the brig?
You'd have to ask the writers, or whatever other gods you follow :P
Let’s talk about how those nausican ships are Manoeuvering at warp -_-
“Faster than light no left or right”
Phasers at warp? How
At the speed of plot of course! :P
As much as I enjoyed the idea of seeing the Federation born I really hated how they did the show. It was a real cluster fuck with the writing I hated how they made the Vulcans a bunch of space pricks the stupid time war crap. I rather they focused on the Romulan War and how it united all the founding planets. But instead we got a bunch of crap for 3 years before trying to fix it but too little too late thank god they cancelled it.
Yeah, it certainly had its.... Problem? :)
There is so much they could have told about the early era without getting into the time war arc.
The transporter was a little bit too much of tech for ENT. They should left it out.
It didnt really matter to me either way...
