Due to having Samoyeds in our house for over twenty years i can confirm all of this but not all those reasons are negative. Plus the fact that having a Samoyed in your family will enrich your life tenfold. They are a fantastic breed for families, no smelly dog odour after petting, they are loving, loyal, patient, obediant(when properly trained) & make friends with anyone who wants to be friends, animal or human. I wouldnt have any other breed about the house after owning Samoyeds. Beautiful souls.
I totally agree with you 100%! Our Samoyed Frost fills our hearts with joy every day. They do calm down as they get older. He is almost 12 and he is super intelligent. He loves people and wants to meet everyone we encounter during our walks. He is also super protective. It's so true that they don't have any smell. Frost only barks at large trucks that go by during our walks. He is pretty much pretty quiet around the house.
Honestly, that's how I feel about my Keeshond. I just wish they weren't so rare anymore. Sammys seem a bit easier to acquire. I wouldn't mind a mix breed of the two either. So, also looking at the eurasier (I think it's spelled?) which IIRC also has keeshond and samoyed mixed with a couple other breeds.
@@magstrid4295 You don't want them to be common if you care about them. I used to foster for Samoyeds, because there was a little craze in California for them, because they are beautiful and nice dogs. I adore them - BUT if they are hard to own. They shed an incredible amount, and people would give them up for that reason alone. You need to be matched with your dog. I was willing to spend a few hours a week combing them out and giving up an entire weekend to properly bathe and groom them once a month. I'm a rarity. I would do this for dogs, I was temporary owner of, to give them up to people that promised to do it for the rest of their lives.
I have had a male Samoyed for over 9 years, and what you say is spot on, except the barking; whilst Samoyeds are known to be "vocal", mine only barks about twice a year whether he needs to or not! But as a companion, he is second-to-none. Truly wonderful dogs!
One of mine bark to let us know that she wants something while my other one doesn't bark at all and they are brother and sister. It's just individual personality I think
Mine would generally whine, but they also used physical interaction to make their wants known. I really loved my dogs. I miss them coming up to me and nudging me to be pet or picked up. They are very sweet, but hard to own dogs. I will always remember them, they certainly improved my life, and I was very happy and fortunate to have them. I don't miss the massive amounts of hair they produced though :) Such sweet, and demanding dogs. I used to foster for these dogs, I kept the best two out of 20. I will never have that opportunity again. I needed them, and they needed me. Just a wonderful relationship I had. I will never be able to duplicate that. If anything deserves an afterlife, they do, and if there is no afterlife, I welcome oblivion as well. What a terrible thing I had to do to put them down. Worst thing I ever had to do, but it was a merciful death. I won't get that.
My 9 year old male samoyed isnt that picky, he is lovely on the leash, when he was a puppy i trained that everytime he pulled, i made him stop. it really worked. BUT when he sees another dog or something else he wants to do, it all goes out the window. I agree with all of this. Saying that, he is the most in tune dog aswell. I call him my own nurse because he literally licks my tears away. Kisses and love all day long and he is my best friend. I love every day with him. If you can get a samoyed, i would recommend them. Very soulful caring dogs.
Thank you for being such responsible pet owners. It’s clear that Felix has a special bond with the two of you and that you’ve put a great deal of work into training him. ❤
Responsible? --The Samoyed requires daily brushing. -And spending so much time with a dog generates attachment. -You can not feed your dog with a lot of meat (even chicken). -You don't need to walk 3 hours every day. The need to think that they did a good job in any activity is what a dog values. Most of the problems they mention are more because they "don't really know how to treat the Samoyed". So they did what they could along the way (literally, the Samoyed doesn't even require more than a bath every 2 months, brushing it daily is enough). In fact no one should be bathing his dogs. It is enough to brush them mostly, the earth dries up and falls off on its own after a few hours. only the ones with almost no fur because their skin can retain bacteria.
Agree with everything you’ve said…. I was frustrated for the first months (so much energy and stubbornness) but eventually my Sammy wore me down and we negotiated terms of living together. 😆😆 Then I adopted a second Sammy. If you can’t beat them, join them. ❤
I have a samoyed for nearly 10 years now.he is definitely very clever open doors and windows, but also I found him very obedient aswell. ilove everything about him except the tons of hair❤❤❤
Yeah I was shocked to see my cookie stands up walk, nd opens the doors.. very intelligent tht she finds the tricks we make to escape her nd started to go ahead of us to the door to go out first 😂
Can confirm all of this 😂. My Samoyed is almost 2 and being trained as a service dog, it drives me crazy and the training often feels impossible , but in time we will get there. Luckily I love my big goof to the moon and back. 😑 I think his stubbornness and reactivity is the worst. He demands to greet every animal and dog he sees and sounds so aggressive to those unfamiliar with the breed.😅
Oh my goodness. I've worked with training service dogs. I can imagine the difficulty you're experiencing trying to train a samoyed to be one. I'm certain you both will get there in time. They do love their family and owners! 😊
I'm thinking of getting a dog in future but Most of the dogs I hear about are stubborn😂. I don't think it bothers me cause I'm stubborn too, like both of us are going to be stubborn together😂
It's so nice to know that these traits are the same with most Samoyeds! I have a male one that is one and a half and It felt like these behaviours only happened with him, as you never see anyone else talking about these things. So THANK YOU for sharing this ❤
OK, I need to warn you to prepare you. I used to foster for these dogs, and they're pretty easy to own until about 2. At 2, they really start to shed. Your dog has BARELY shed yet. The reason I did foster, is because they're really cute dogs, they're fun, and affectionate, and they are just overall great - then they get to 2, and shed and shed and shed and shed. People get over-whelmed with it. My friend in rescue used to bring their dog out on a grooming table, and blow their coat out with a leaf blower. It looked like it was snowing. Birds will clean up. Got to be careful with that too, if you hit their ears with the blower, you can hurt them. You are going to have to get used to grooming them a lot. You can turn their hair into yarn as well. You can find people that will do it.
@fuzzywzhe I'm fully aware of the shedding and how bad it can be. That stuff doesn't bother me at all. I did a lot of research before getting our boy. You just don't see anyone talking about the more difficult traits. People online usually only post the fun cute stuff and not all these other behaviours etc.
@@gemmagale3591 Had an adult Samoyed before? I did plenty of research. I did dog rescue to make certain I could be a good caretaker, and the biggest nightmare is that I had FOUR of them for about 4 months. If I wasn't working, I was combing. Since I fostered, I concentrate on the worst aspects of the dog. Beyond the shedding is how needy they are. I like needy dogs, but it even taxed me. I don't regret having my dogs at ALL, but man, so much work. We got Samoyeds dumped in rescue for a reason. They are NOT for casual owners. I had labs as a kid, they were downright easy. Leaf blower works well, but BE CAREFUL, and the dog should be on a grooming table so they can't suddenly move their head. You can blow out an eardrum. Oh yeah, here's another recommendation - get them a show collar instead of a normal collar. A show collar is a nylon choke. When it's not in use, it hangs loose, and it won't break their hair. Be certain it's not too long or they can step into it and this will hobble them - that's happened to one of my dogs - the choke should be just big enough to fit over their head without you having to stuff it on. If your dog is free to roam the woods, I would NOT suggest they have this sort of collar, because it can snag on something and your dog might get stuck somewhere, immobilized. They are very comfortable, and they basically disappear into the fur. Put the tags on the OTHER end than you connect the leash to. If you put tags on the same end you connect the leash to, eventually you're going to hook the rings of the tags, and once your dog pulls, it will pull the rings apart.
@fuzzywzhe my auntie has always had samoyeds all of her life - male and female. I appreciate your advice but 1, I didn't ask for it and 2 you're coming off as judgemental. You know nothing about me nor do you know how much I know. So please stop preaching..
My unneutered male Samoyed lived to be 13.5 years previously. He never barked. He was a magnificent animal. Our current Samoyed is almost 14 . We got her for our daughter when she was 8 years old. They are very bonded. I cannot imagine life without our Samoyed. She is into everything we do and we find this to be very charming. She has a very good diet of sardines, herring, fresh organs (chicken and beef livers, gizzards, hearts, etc.), fresh vegetables , Hills" WD " kibble and Dr Marty's "Nature's Blend". She is very healthy in spite of being diabetic. She has lost weight (now 50 lbs) and no longer gets IVDD because of that. Yes - Samoyeds are expensive and require good food, exercise and companionship. Of course, they require vaccinations and vet visits. We figure that we spend about $130-$150/month on ours, apart from the initial cost.(Ours was $1,400 14 years ago.) You will find yourself falling in love with this dog. They are gentle and extremely loyal and bonded with their families. Don't expect this dog to be left in the backyard in a cage!! I cannot imagine life without her. Her beautiful smile has lifted my mood 10,000 times. Thank God for Samoyeds! What a sublime creature from the hand of God!
Totally agree 😂! I own one, she’s 15 months old and sometimes drives me crazy, it’s been a year I have no peace anymore, but I love her! The only thing that is different is that she loves cuddles.
The part about attracting attention is no joke. Atlas is a service animal, and everyone wants to pet him. Then they see the do not pet patch on his harness and they are almost angry. Or there gets to be line of people wanting to pet him and take a picture with him. 😵💫 Most of the time I let people pet him. Especially those little kids that are staring at him and can't stop staring. A simple "do you want to pet him?" And they can't say a word but shake their head yes enthusiastically. Too cute. He gets worn out from people though, and if there are too many people trying to pet him he looks at me like "are we done Dad?" I have to pick him up for a cuddle every so often when we are in big crowds. They are big babies, even though they have a ferocious bark. #SamoyedLife
I adopted a Pomeranian from a shelter. She is a wreck. One tooth, old, tumor removed, bad heart, deaf, going blind. Watching this is exactly my Poms personality! I hear they are a relative of your breed. Yes exactly. Wow. Incredibly stubborn. It’s been a year and while I’ve made little progress in training her, she has made leaps and bounds in training me. When goals are impossible, love and acceptance is another kind of happiness. This is a dog unlike any animal I’ve ever known. I do not recommend even though I accept & love her.
This should be called, "10 Reasons why lazy or irresponsible people should not get a Samoyed." He is such a beautiful beast! My dog was a malamute/husky mix. If she was not walked 2x a day (or one really long hike), she would just climb over the 5 foot wall and take herself out for exercise. We would get a phone call from someone 2 miles away saying, "we have your dog, she was just jogging down the street." I loved her unique personality and independent spirit! I just had to learn how to feed all those wild sides correctly so that we were both happy companions, just like you do with your beautiful Samoyed!
I have had Samoyed’s for 53 years - shortly after getting a new puppy I always sadly say it is just another stubborn Sam. I think they are the most intelligent- clever and as stated willing to do only what they want to do. I love this breed passionately. I enjoyed this video.
All 10 reasons you mentioned -> I know them so well 😂❤ I have two male samoyeds. Brothers, 6yrs and 4yrs. Only the food pickiness has passed, thankfully 🥳. But I love the stubborness, the independent thinking and the need to greet almost everything 😂🎉 They love to learn new stuff, but I also love the communication of the stubborness they give me 😊❤ But ofc, I too have counted to ten sometimes both out of a little frustration and not to break into laugther quite often 😂 Thank you for making the effort to communicate what a samoyed need and what to except for people thinking of getting one ❤
We have 2 Samoyeds and they are stubborn, naughty, needy, picky eaters except for their treats and definitely attract people. However; they are sweet, gentle and add so much happiness to the daily life. P.S. I have found an amazing groomer that cares for the Sammie’s every 2 weeks as I am not able to brush them without a lot of effort.
I am looking to adopt a Samoyed x husky and came across your video. How wonderful you made this to inform future owners. It's so sad when people buy pets without much consideration and the poor animal ends up in a shelter or gets neglected... and there are sooo many on the rescue sites. Your video is so very shot and enjoyable to watch at the same time ❤
all the reasons above to NOT get a Samoyed also aplies to a Husky.. and as a Husky owner you can add 1 more: the "sassiness" the Husky will challange you and defy your rules just to see you get mad.
Got a nine year old male. Yes to all ten points. He have pretty extreme attention deficit, very passionate about most things, curious about everything.. Mine is a brilliant companion for hiking and tenting except the warmest days. I'm looking forward to come home to him every single day!
I have an 8 month old Samoyed hes adorable , I always had Malamutes before but when my boy passed away we decided to get a Samoyed. I think as we always had malamutes we were ready for the stuborn puppy. He is doing so well with his training the biggest issue is he wants to say hello to everyone so its hard to keep his attention and like my malamutes he learns quickly but will do it on his terms . One thing I didn't expect was just how vocal he is like many have said its when he's happy. I brush him every night which keeps his coat matt free, lick mats are amazing for that.
My Samoyed is 9 months got him at 5. A lot of these are accurate! He is stubborn, loud, and pulls. He however loves food. We got a trainer early on because we have two old dogs and it helped so much!!!
I have been extra Math to a samojed. It was fantastic. She loved to socialize with everybody, she didn't bark at all, yes she loved to move and draw, hide and seek etc. It is a demanding dog. But so much of a real dog and very funny.
I used to do dog fostering and rescue for these dogs. The main reason not to get one, is they shed more than you can imagine. I was well known at work at the guy that had a Samoyed because I left hair everywhere. My desk chair was covered with it, no matter how careful I was. I never wore black. They are sweet and wonderful dogs, but don't underestimate how difficult it is to have such a dog. I vacuumed everyday. The hair weaves into your clothing. When you see somebody displaying this dog online here, it's right after after they vacuumed, I guarantee it. The reason rescue existed for these dogs, is predominately how much they shed. It's enormous. You can't underestimate it, they are the worst at shedding that you can imagine. They are beautiful and gorgeous, but people get overwhelmed. I spent several hours every week combing them out. People gave up their dogs because of the work in having them, and they still loved them. You can make these dogs relatively non-shedding by blowing them out with a leaf blower or something, but that only lasts a few days. I adore these dogs, but I don't recommend them. You better really really really love them to have them. They are very sweet, but so is a lab. So is a mutt. I know they are adorably cute, and they have a personality to match, but you pay for this. They are super hard to own just because of their shedding.
Honestly thank you for this comment! The shedding would honestly be the main problem for me, but these dogs are just so incredibly beautiful! I wish there was a similar breed that had hair mixed with fur so it wouldn’t be as much of a problem. They are just so eye catching and beautiful!
@@sire2215 They are certainly beautiful and definitely sweet. If you want to TRY one, you could always join dog rescue and foster. That's how I got into it. First, I had this neighbor with this GORGEOUS sweet dog, and I later found out it was a Samoyed. Then when I got out of college, I joined a Samoyed Rescue. Then I had several that I fostered, then I got a dog that really needed some help, he was neglected before, he was a mix, and he was just wonderful, so I kept him. I knew exactly what I was getting into when I adopted him. Another word of caution, when you bathe them, you have to be VERY CAREFUL to remove all soap. If you don't, a week, two weeks, maybe even 3 weeks later, they'll get a hot spot. I would dump my dogs in the bathtub, soap them up, completely immerse them to wash them out, empty the tub, refill it, and rinse them again. Took about 2 hours. Then a night to dry to dampness, then a day of combing them out in the next day afternoon, partially, then Sunday to finish the job. They have to be brushed frequently, or they will develop mats. Most dogs enjoy being combed out so it's a pleasant experience unless you hit a snag. You want to use a rake.
Our hardly shed, but we lived in northern New Hampshire. Indeed, he hated to come in the house in the winter, we made an igloo which he and the other dogs slept in.
@@stephenkennedy8305 How old are your dogs? First 2 years isn't too bad, but as they age, they shed more. Indoor dogs live twice as long as outdoor dogs, seriously. When they are young, they are hardy. As your dogs get older, I bet they want to be inside. I live in Sunnyvale, California. We have very consistent weather, we don't get snow. We only have like August when it gets really hot.
We just adopted a male Samojed, 5 weeks ago, 3 years old, to join our male Alaskam Malamute 16 months old, and we approve everything said in this video. Soo true. But we knew it beforehand, and they have the best life together now.
Oh my goodness! I agree with basically everything except the smart part. We had a chow samoyed mix named Biscuit. He looked exactly like your Felix, but had the notoriously black/purple tongue of the chow chow. If we knew his personality would be what it was, Biscuit would not have been his name. We were sad he didn't like to cuddle either. We picked him from the litter of four at 3 weeks old, and brought him home at 8 weeks. Biscuit was very intelligent and adding that to his stubbornness, it made training him worse. He graduated from 2 obedience classes/schools doing everything almost perfectly. Got home, and right back to listening only if he wanted to. We were both military and had to move to a duty station that unfortunately made it too difficult to keep him. We gave him to family friends. Samoyeds are very unique dogs. They do require knowledgeable dog owners with prior experience. This video of yours was awesome. Felix seems very much like Biscuit. Big, beautiful, fluffy, fun-loving, active fur babes. Thanks for sharing.😊❤
I’ve never met a friendlier breed, and they’re so patient with kids and small dogs (supervision is always advised). I’ve had my Samoyed, Ghost, for over 10 years and he’s the most intelligent, gentle, opinionated and loyal companion. He voices his opinion and argues with me about things he wants 😆 he’s not at all food motivated, which makes training challenging, and he still pulls on walks despite his age. Can confirm that everybody wants a pat when we’re walking and if not then they usually comment on how clean he is (he’s not, it’s an illusion), or they’ll wish me a good drag 🚶🏻♀️
I have a Samoyed and a Samsky. They are not stubborn, very smart and obedient. You do need to know how to train them, they really don't like a firm and hand. We use a lot of shaping to teach them and that really sticks. Hunting is one of our biggest challenges. The Samsky is pretty good and reliable around Wildlife. We Used the book from Simone Mueller Hunting together. The Samoyed has still a way to go in that department. We are making progress. Exercise is why we got these rescues. We love canicrossing (running with your dog attached to you on a bungee line) and Step Jøring (kick biking with your dog attached to your Kick bike with a bungee line). They can pull their little hearts out and they will be chill the rest of the day. I wouldn't get a sled dog unless you have plans to let them pull. Otherwise they can be very enjoying to walk. Our dogs don't pull on normal walks, only when they are wearing their pulling harness. Grooming is a lot of work. I can't live without my K9 dryblower :) Buy an expensive one, it will change your life! Food is not a problem for our dogs, they eat about anything. Fish is the big favourite. The sounds they make can be annoying. I got used to it and try to keep it to a minimum. When they are exited to go for a run they are loud :). The Samsky likes to be scratched and pampered. The Samoyed thinks he is a lapdog and snuggles with us all day. If you live a a very warm and humid country, don't get a Samoyed. It's really hard for them to lose the heat. You can not exercise them properly without risking heatstroke. They are also at greater risk to get skin problems when its to hot for them. I think they are great dogs, very sweet and kind towards people. I find them really silly and full of personality. They make me laugh a lot. If you want the fluffy looks, but not the all the running and pulling you could consider a Eurasier. Calmer and easier to train too.
Samoyed owner here Definitely agree with… 1 stubborn - oh yes, big time! 3 hard to train - as above & treats only work so much 5 hair everywhere - weekly brush minimum 7 picky eater - took a while to find a brand she likes, and even then she sometimes skips a meal 8 pack dogs - can’t leave alone long, maybe 2-3 hours max and only if she’s already had a longish walk 9 attract lots of attention - all the time! However, we haven’t had these issues… 2 pulling - not an issue, she walks well on the lead 4 barking - not too bad, only when very excited 6 cuddling - she loves it 10 exercise - ours likes to play more than walk
We had a Samoyed, Shannon and a German Shepherd Wolf mix, Whiskey. The Whiskey would go out and barks at ice houses. Meanwhile Shannon was crawling across the ice. When the fisherman came out to yell at Whiskey, Shannon would grab the fish.
I know a guy who trained his sammy K9 programme. He walks him around the streets with no leash and the dog listens to him perfectly. But that's the only one example among all samoyeds I've met in my town.
Due to my absolute Love of big dogs, Sammy's have always appealed to me due to that beautiful white coat. Living in South Florida means I have to base decisions on how comfortable they will be in a high temperature environment and this is simply not the place for Sammy's, Malamutes or other thickly coated dogs. I am sensitive to their needs as well as my own and though I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to adopt one, I have to agree that they would be better suited to a cooler climate. Thanks for your insights, it was very helpful.
Amazingly informative, thank you. We have lost our beloved english bulldog Tony and are starting to look for breeds which would fit in in our active and loving family. We live very high up in the north of Sweden, close to the arctic circle so the dog we will adopt will have to be able to sustain extremely harsh winters (we had -40.2 this year), love to walk, run and pull and be super sociable to humans and animals alike. Samoyed are making our list!
As another samoyed owner, I can confirm everything is true here 😂 Their stubborness, not wanting to listen (if they already focus on something that's super interesting like a deer) definitely make it challenging to train. Mine can be left alone for several hours without being noisy (I have a doggie camera & usually the land cloud will just stay calm unless other dogs bark outside). About them being vocal and can lead someone else who's not familiar to this breed to think that they're aggressive is very relatable. It's not until someone who has an even older samoyed than mine explained to me about it, I'd never realized. My girl is never be the one who barks first unless you're a cat or a dog who barks at her. Anyways, you guys have inspired me to travel with my samoyed and she's gonna travel to her 5th country now ❤️ it's gonna be tricky about food since she only wants to eat a specific rawfood brand so getting accommodations with freezer is a must 😭 She's a bit older than Felix but still going strong! (and stubborn 😂)
I had one and My Telli was my heart of dogs. I had a Samoyed, Norwegian Elkhound, German Shepherd, Akita, with a Siberian Husky. They all were Sweet Beautiful, Adorable Brothers, that followed my Telli, the Samoyed. Never not one problem. It's all in house you raise and put the time into them. 🩵💚💙💕💜💜
we had two beautiful female Samoyeds. Both lived to 14 years old. They filled our lives with so much joy and love. While some of the things you mentioned we experienced, we enjoyed every fun moment with each of them. Sweet memories. Gorgeous dogs. Loving companions. I can just see our two girls running through the drifts of fluffy snow in the heavens.
I’ve had 3 Samoyeds. All of them have been fussy about food. Our current Samoyed Angel eats raw food. She is difficult to train as not food oriented. She has the Samoyed selective hearing, she heard you but…. Luckily we found an excellent professional groomer locally. She pulls if she spots a squirrel 🐿️ 🐱 etc. and she does not always like to be crowded by people or other dogs
My dog is like mixed Samoyed and Jindo mostly Korean traditional mix dog.. he ended his life last week and I do understand now his personality more regarding your video. Thank you. I hope you and your dog have wonderful days every moment. ❤
Im actually very happy i watchdd this, because i have ton of experience with dogs like a Samoyed, i have a bernedoodle and it fits a samoyed almost perfectly. Other than the shedding part. So im happy to say i will probably get a samoyed in the future 👍
I'm on my second Samoyed, the two were from totally different bloodlines and YES! All 10 of these characteristics are true. The nuances change a little from one dog to another, but they are in fact very common in the breed. But I think the main ones are: Stubbornness, hair everywhere and attracting attention... if you don't have patience with stubbornness, don't like hair in your house, clothes and even in food and don't like interacting with strangers and, especially, with children on the street, it's better to rethink... if you don't have problems with that, have one, they are WONDERFUL
Super agree! I have a 2 yrs male who looks just like yours. the attention-getting part is the hardest because he just doesn't like it and barks a lot. So frustrating 😅
I had a Samoyed for 14 years., Absolutely most friendly loving dog in the world. I agree with your video except mine never barked unless there was really something wrong. My neighbor even told me they loved having him next door because in a way he was a good watch dog in that he would only bark if something really needed human attention.
Thank you. I'm considering getting a Sammy puppy at some point and want to make sure it is the right decision. I appreciate you stating the bad with the good so people can make educated decisions on the breed.
I always wished to have a Samoyed.. however, i live in a tropical country.. his double coat is not suitable for these climatic conditions.. rather, now I 😂watch Samoyed videos and feel happy to see their smiley faces..
I've owned 3 samoyeds and all the facts are 100% true probably except the cuddling one. my samoyed all loved cuddles. I would have added that if they get dirty, cleaning / glooming them is time consuming and labour intensive- and poop butt is no joke
I adopted a samoyed from a rescue when he was 8. I had him for the best 8 years. He was an extreme Velcro dog, leaving him home made him unhappy. I miss the mounds of white fur everywhere.
If I may add another comment. The fun of having our Samoyed was the fact that he was stubborn and argumentative. We would laugh like crazy. Our Sammy always outsmarted my brother (owner) and the moms. Don’t worry about dog being stubborn!
I stayed with a friend when he was dog sitting a Samoyed. She was the mouthiest, cuddliest, snobbiest, sweetest, biggest jerk ever and I loved her more than words can express.
I've had my samoyed since she was 3 months and now she is 10 months and I can confirm that most of these are not necessarily true, but I think some dogs are different and how you train and love them matters alot. My samoyed was great to train because we would smack her butt and put the item she did wrong near her face so she can see what not to do. I think people that say yiu shouldn't punish your dog have a harder time at training and usually end up failing to train properly. However, you shouldnt constantly hit them or thay might be afraid of you.[you must balance punishment and happiness. However, other than training you must have a very close bond. I let my samoyed literally do what ever she wants if it makes her happy and doesn't harm her or anyone else. The happier she is with you the better the bond and the better she listens to you. In conclusion my samoyed loves playing with her toys and barks in excitement when we take her to the park, or play with her and I wouldn't say she is stubborn because she usually listens when I call her. But I will say if a samoyed wants something they will get it, which is the reason I let her do what she wants until I tell her she can't do something[which isnt alot] the less yiu tell her no. The better she will listen when you do say it.
Ive got 20+ positive reasons to beat your ten 8>D Best Dog ever, no baths needed or trimming if you brush properly. Have had 7 friends get Sammys because they met mine.
If you are considering a Samoyed then be advised this video is pretty spot on accurate! We've raised, bred and shown Sam's for over 40 years. We've never been without them from as many as 5 to the two we currently have (M 7yrs/F 2yrs). Match your dog with your patience, ability to care for what THEY need, your energy, your home, your kids, what your REALITY is. Once you bring a Samoyed into your life your life will never return to "normal". For us these "10 reasons" are simply things that you must recognize and manage. We've trained them. Our current Male even made it to Photographer's/Art model. Our Female on the other hand refuses to be manipulated at all. But, so be it. We have had so many for so long that they are a "genetic" part of our family. Like all family members you have to make room for their quirks, character and personality. No two are the same. But, be advised, don't get a Samoyed unless you are prepared to be owned by them body, heart and soul, quirks, character, personality, and every other thing this video mentions. To us such things management issues. The indomitable heart of a Samoyed and their ability to become an inseparable member of the family so far outweigh the "10 reasons" that we have never wished to own any other breed. But, go in with your eyes wide open, or don't go in at all.
Nice video and thank you for the information! I have a 3 years old Border Collie and in the upcoming month I'll be getting a Samoyed to be his little brother. I am extremely excited! The Samoyed that we'll be getting is too young to leave his mothers side at the moment so we are taking our time and waiting for the right time. Since my Border Collie is also really active, I'm hoping they will be a good match.
Omg he is so adorable, but those reasons are really valid, I love to look at them and pet them but I would not want the responsibility. I would want to do it right.
I will recommend samoyeds to everyone 100%. My samoyed are only three years old, but i can proems you that they will customize your lifestyle. And it is easy to learn them things, because they are a smart bread. Do not care about the hair. You just need to brush them maybe every 5 days
We lost our beloved Bella the Samoyed 2 years ago. I’m still so heartbroken and can’t seem to get over losing her. I’d love to get another but just can’t bare any more pain of them getting old and poorly 💔
Everyone saying this doesn’t sound expensive, think about it this way, it’s equivalent to 1,699.05 Thai Baht. maybe that puts it in more perspective. This would be like spending a couple hundred dollars to go to the movie theater.
We got our first Samoyed in 1978. It ruined us for any other breed. All these things you say are true and some. The females we have had are mighty huntresses. They like to talk and sing too. My son started breeding and showing Samoyeds and has done well. We have learned a lot from his training for shows and it has helped with the pulling. This happened after about 20 years of Samoyed ownership but better late than never. We love our floofs. They bring so much joy to our lives.
Oh, all so true! I've had 5.....and I wouldn't have a different breed. When I was younger, and we had 2 at the same time, I groomed both each week. Now, eldery, I pay someone to do this. 👍🏻❤️
Your video was very helpful. Informative, truthful, the good and the bad. I love these dogs, I just don’t think I could fulfill the exercise demand they require. And the grooming chore as well. Don’t think it would be a good choice for me being a first time owner on my own. Sigh. Too bad. I’ve always loved their looks and style ❤
Our Nanook is exactly the same 😊 he barks when he digs on the beach, he barks a lot and lots of people think he is aggressive. But he loves everyone. He doesn’t pull tho 😬 not yet at least 😂
Have Samoyeds for 56 years now! Now still 3. They go all over with me. Would never be without one!!! With patience can be well trained on or off lead. Even know two who do dog dancing!! And can beat collies at agility !! Interact with them as much as you can and they will be the best dog ever. Cuddles: I don’t grab them for cuddles - they come to me and want some. Especially in bed in the morning!! Best family dogs for active families ever.
I have a Husky girl. 1. Stubborn, hell yeah, 2. Pull oh and competitive. 3. pretty smart, 4. barking nope, Tikaani doesn't bark but talks a lot, 5. Hair, not having hair in your food isn't normal, 6. yep huggy time is cold time, 7. She's picky and a pain, 8. She needs a pack which is why I'm looking at adopting a Samoyed, 9. Husky's LOVE pats and attention, 10. active, that's why I have a large yard. Well from this it looks like we are ready to move forward and look out for a Samoyed puppy.
I have a 12 month old Samoyed called Vincent, our fourth Sammy. Looks a lot like Felix. I think you are wrong about their intelligence- they look sharp to me. Loved the clip.
All true, of course it may vary based on the specific dog character, but my Samoyed matches most of the points 100%. Still, I love him so much. He is the gratest dog on the planet. Greetings for you guys, thank you for sharing your videos.
I have a Husky and an Alaskan Malamute/Husky Mix. Of course they are sled dogs too, have lots of hair, sometimes stubborn, I had that eating problem with my male Husky when he was very young. Sometimes I'm thinking of to get a Samoyed but that barking is a problem. Thanks for sharing this video with us! I'm serious with people when I tell People about huskies. Huskies are not for anyone.
If your dog doesn’t need a harness don’t put one on them. Your enabling them pulling you from their chest and shoulders. Unless your dog is working like a husky or doing weights or has breathing problems it should NOT have a harness on if they are prone to pulling
Our family was adopted by "Duchess". We swiftly changed her name & was also swiftly taught the ways of their 'Sammy'. We had ups & downs, and LOTS of muddy paw prints because we live in New England, but we always loved her sassiness! I 100% agree that this isn't the dog for everyone, but every once in a while you find a dog that needs you more than you need the dog.
OMG! After watching this video, I have the feeling that you described my Samoyed. 😄But I am also perfectly fine with all this breed "negative" aspects. This breed is so perfect for me. But definitely it's not suitable for everyone because of these aspects.
I would do this for dogs, I was temporary owner of, to give them up to people that promised to do it for the rest of their lives.
and they smile!
Do they guard your house or it's just for the show?
I won't get that.
ours loved to go woo-woo more than the barking. but there was plenty of barking too. they love to sing the song of their people!
All is this is right on, but we
would not trade ours for any other.
Our 2nd one. Simply love Him!!!
I agree with u. They r so loving that they'll make u forget any other human companions 😂
@@Goodie477 Yeah all you need is sammy
I'm a pet lover
She is soooo picky when it comes to eating. But she wants to eat my cats!
She’s not responsible, she complains about her dog pulling but she has a harness on it which enables the strongest parts of their body to pull
Agree with everything you’ve said…. I was frustrated for the first months (so much energy and stubbornness) but eventually my Sammy wore me down and we negotiated terms of living together. 😆😆 Then I adopted a second Sammy. If you can’t beat them, join them. ❤
😂😂😂😂😂😂
two Sams is the way to go, then they entertain each other a lot of the time, so it's not so much work.
I'm wanting to get a samoyed and train them as a service dog too! What program did you go through for training?
I'm thinking of getting a dog in future but Most of the dogs I hear about are stubborn😂. I don't think it bothers me cause I'm stubborn too, like both of us are going to be stubborn together😂
I love them! I just got another puppy from La Casa De La Nieve kennels, omg the fluffiness is heartmelting!

@@gemmagale3591 Judgmental? HAHA.
Well, you're not pleasant to talk to anymore. So I'll just stop talking with you.
We figure that we spend about $130-$150/month on ours, apart from the initial cost.(Ours was $1,400 14 years ago.)
You will find yourself falling in love with this dog.
How did your dog get diabetes?
So are they stubborn because they got neutered? I would be too tbh
@@legs8714 No- if anything, they are more manageable after being neutered.
@@Praisethesunson She just developed it at age 7.
She just started to be diabetic at age 7.@@Praisethesunson
Totally agree 😂! I own one, she’s 15 months old and sometimes drives me crazy, it’s been a year I have no peace anymore, but I love her! The only thing that is different is that she loves cuddles.
Well, the first 3 years are more difficult...then you get used 😄 . Mine is 4 years old and almost everybody is asking us if she's a puppy.
Mine loves cuddles too... she becomes quiet nd mesmerized when I cuddle her.
I do not recommend even though I accept & love her.
yeah, Poms are the tiniest Spitz dogs, and they are very similar in temperament. sweet little guys, but you have to out-stubborn them to get anywhere.
Oh man this is so true I had the same breed mix and just like that.
Totally agree! We have two beautiful Samoyeds and they bring us so much joy. ❤
But I love the stubborness, the independent thinking and the need to greet almost everything 😂🎉 They love to learn new stuff, but I also love the communication of the stubborness they give me 😊❤
But ofc, I too have counted to ten sometimes both out of a little frustration and not to break into laugther quite often 😂
Thank you for making the effort to communicate what a samoyed need and what to except for people thinking of getting one ❤
@@apoiadorremunerado5388😮
Got a nine year old male. Yes to all ten points. He have pretty extreme attention deficit, very passionate about most things, curious about everything.. Mine is a brilliant companion for hiking and tenting except the warmest days. I'm looking forward to come home to him every single day!
Samoyed are affectionate, cute, friendly dogs..lucky to have one..
He is so lovely. My samoyed died in July after 14 years and I miss him so much. 💜
He's gorgeous. Thank you for putting the cons out there because they're doable for me!
I've raised Samoyeds for nearly 20 yrs, they were all known as "the happy barking dog" in the neighborhood! Yes barking is their favorite pastime!
My Samoyed is 9 months got him at 5. A lot of these are accurate! He is stubborn, loud, and pulls. He however loves food. We got a trainer early on because we have two old dogs and it helped so much!!!
My Sammy was the best fun run trainer I ever had. Great for travels, and great humor. Miss him still
I have been extra Math to a samojed.
I've had the joy of owning 2 Sammys in my life..they can be a challenge but I miss them both dearly
Samoyed owner here
Definitely agree with…
1 stubborn - oh yes, big time!
3 hard to train - as above & treats only work so much
5 hair everywhere - weekly brush minimum
7 picky eater - took a while to find a brand she likes, and even then she sometimes skips a meal
8 pack dogs - can’t leave alone long, maybe 2-3 hours max and only if she’s already had a longish walk
9 attract lots of attention - all the time!
However, we haven’t had these issues…
2 pulling - not an issue, she walks well on the lead
4 barking - not too bad, only when very excited
6 cuddling - she loves it
10 exercise - ours likes to play more than walk
I walk a Samoyed I’ve been with her for almost a year. This is pretty accurate to my experience. I love her she’s such a dog!
I only found out a few weeks ago that my dog was a Golden Sammy and watching your video I get to understand him better.
I have one .. he is my life .. ur right in everything u said .. but he is the love 🥰
Thank you. This is such a precious video for potential Samoyed owner like me :)
My brother was taught to walk by the Samoyed my parents had!!!! Wish he'd been around when I was born😊
One benefit of having a Sammy (my aunt had 5, we had a Samoyed/husky mix) is they're great fiber animals if you're a spinner.
their fur makes the softest, warmest wool ever!
we had two beautiful female Samoyeds.
I just got a samoyed puppy 2 weeks ago. I adore him.
Also the barking is insane hehe
My young boyhood best friend was a Sammy. It's been 70 years since I lost her and I still grieve.
Mine is 7 months old and she’s stubborn but she’s also a sweetheart ❤
So TRUE! (from 40 years of experience, one after another).
Oh no 😮, I got my grandson one, and he is a handful. Thank you for the most informative video of our lives.
This video made me love Samoyeds even more
I've got a Pomeranian but I think she's a Samoyed in her head because this video describes her perfectly!
I miss the mounds of white fur everywhere.
they have tons of personality, always. I have had 5 and raised 5 litters, great companions, stubborn but very smart
I’m just loving these as well as TheTravelTellers videos where I first started watching!😊
Well, I am very pleased with humans I adopted. I also trained them pretty well. Being with them for 11 years already :)
You just need to brush them maybe every 5 days
my dog are no where near a picky eater. She eats everything
We lost our beloved Bella the Samoyed 2 years ago. I’m still so heartbroken and can’t seem to get over losing her. I’d love to get another but just can’t bare any more pain of them getting old and poorly 💔
Our Sammy is a handful. Our daughter has wanted one forever. This video is spot on except for the fussy eating Our puppy eats every thing.
My neighbors had a samoyed and my family would take him on walks for them. As long as we kept moving we were fine
They love to have “discussions “ and they always get the last word.
All is true, but I wouldn't trade him for anything; he is my 2nd one.
Thank you for all your videos ! They are awesome !!
I DO have a samoyed… he’s amazing… beautiful… and so nice to everyone. Little annoying at times but I love him and wouldn’t change anything.
Mine definitely pulls I’ve had to take up running again because of this, she is my running instructor now
I have a 12 month old Samoyed called Vincent, our fourth Sammy. Looks a lot like Felix. I think you are wrong about their intelligence- they look sharp to me. Loved the clip.
I disagree 😊
Unless your dog is working like a husky or doing weights or has breathing problems it should NOT have a harness on if they are prone to pulling
we're waiting for our puppy samoyed and that's what we exactly needed to hear! thanks!
Best. Dog. Ever. Seriously.
Crazy, you can directly see the relationship to the Eurasier
