My parents had two when i was born in 1956. the girl died within a couple of years but the male lived until I wa around 5. that dog was magnificant and so loyal to us his family. He saved us from a house fire overnight once and ushed my toddler brother out of the way of a car, onto a grass verge.. he fell on his back crying and adults thought the dog had barged him for no reason. However, as I saw exactly what happened i came out in defence of the dog and everyone then was very pleased. He got some extra meat on both occasions. I have photos of me stuck like glue to me when I was a small baby. My parent said he, more so than the female dog, seemed to decide he was my protector, and then my brother when he arrived on the scene. Good old boy. I am now 67.. he lives in my heart still and I am sure gave me my lifelong love of dogs and animals.
Described perfectly! Our Kees is exactly how you described. One more thing to add though.... they do NOT like being left alone for extended periods of time. At least ours is that way.... Thank you for putting this together! Great job!!!!
Yes,they usually love their people and can easily exhibit separation anxiety If you are not home a lot or travel a lot please to not get this breed and for heaven sakes do not subject them to dog crates! They are smart and they love companionship!
Had two Keeshonds growing up and while the opportunity has never come up (since I've only adopted rescue mutties since I grew up and moved away), I would not hesitate to have one again. Really wonderful dogs.
Oh how I miss my Kees lady! Her name was Julia fame and she passed away in 1994..But still, I feel her around me..She loved the snow and nature in Norway, she totally guarded my daughter and they shared everything. Thank you for posting ❤
We had a total of three Keeshonden from my childhood to my early adulthood. None of them were barkers. Though our Hilary loved running off at night into the country fields to go potty. We gave up trying to leash her, cuz she'd escape. She'd always come back 30 mins later barking at the door to be let in. 😂🤦🏾♀️
11. They are very intelligent and have their own mind 12. They love to eat what you eat 13. They don't want to be alone 14. Family comes first - neigbours can be included - tasty food helps :) 15. You can do everything with them: agility, man trailing, dummy searching, extended walks or just hang out ...
I love these dogs! Lol. We had keeshond when i was a kid. Her name was misty. She was 16 when she passed and she was a joy. I'm thinking about getting another one.
He's gorgeous!! So typical Keesie in every way, down to the Smiling Dutchman grins and "pants on fire" butt tuck! We just added #4 and have fostered over 2 dozen and every one has been special. After 2 naughty little girls we have a teenage boy - yeah! The boys seem to be much more "Velcro" than the girls in my experience. I have 1 more to add, Kees are like potato chips, you can't have just one (we're on a list for a pet puppy from a show breeder friend.)
Your video is great. I got my first Keeshond in 1978 and now have Keeshonden 5 and 6. I absolutely love the breed. You really nailed it with your video and your pup was a wonderful and beautiful model demonstrating everything so well. Thanks for sharing!
Spitz breed dogs are such ham bones! My Pomeranian Pascha does the push paw. He's a push-Put. My Pomeranian Kuma is hammy like your Kumo! An overweight Pomeranian (Keeshond) will be my next doggo. Thanks for sharing your video!
My former shelter dog, Teddy, looks like a Keeshond who wished to be a German Shepherd but didn't wish quite hard enough and decided to stay snack size, but he's definitely got all these mannerisms and the derpy attack face, and wow, the summer undercoat explosion! 😂
Magnificent dogs! I'm on my third one. Gabriel, nearly 10 years old. He's had more pictures and videos taken of him than most celebrities. People are always asking me what breed is he and can they get a picture of him.
Omg at time 4:02 it was so funny when he had his fluffy head stuffed into the chair! 🤣 And this is some really good info to keep in mind for when I get my own Keeshond, especially about the barking. I'm happy to wait until we move from our apartment complex before getting a Keeshond. I don't want to drive the neighbours crazy probably not the best breed for apartment living I guess. I don't mind the barking myself I'm used to dogs but idk about the neighbours lol!
Love this video. I have a Keeshond named Jurgen, this video pegs him 100%. They are incredible dogs. Velco dogs are the truth, but I love every minute.
Agree with all but the barking. I’ve had 5 Keeshonden in my lifetime and only one barked to get my attention and one barked to tell me things, but both were able to be trained to stop once I acknowledged that they alerted me to something.
Kumo barks when he is hungry, excited, or alerting. He doesn’t actively bark all the time, but when he gets into one of those modes, it is very loud. Good to let people know bc barking of any kind can be a major issue for people who live in apartments.
OMG this is so funny! Your boy is as much of a Doofus as mine is! As each thing came up, I was like "Yup, tick!". Because Kumo takes his Watch Dog role very seriously, does this mean he doesn't settle and nap much during the day, and goes off to sleep early in the evening?
GREAT Dogs…I had a pair for years. They DO love to “escape” a lot, just for the hell of it and gnaw at wooden gates and fences or dig their way under. They LOVE the water!
We might get a Wolfsspitz (German for Keeshond) in for temporary care soon! I´m so exited to see how he will get along with our Leonbergers. Might be a perfect fit. The barking might needs a bit getting used to, though we already have talking dogs, so why not getting a barking one as well. :P
Most of what you stated is true. I found them to be the perfect dog breed for me Which is why I went on to show and breed top quality Keeshonds. What people need to know is this breed does not do well in hot climates or long walks! They are the National dog of Holland and they are lnow as The Smiling Dutchmen Bred for hundreds of years as companions and watch dogs for barge captains. They make great apt dogs that do not need much space or exercise. Their coats make them dislike direct sun and summer temps. I have never seen a mean one a nd they are big love sponges. If you can find a quality one you will get the best dog you will ever have!
I think a Keeshond will do okay there as long as they have access to AC when inside, and shade/water/pool when outside. In the summer, Kumo will chill in the shaded part of the yard when it gets especially hot. If you do want to walk them, it would be better to do it outside of peak sun hours.
I had a litter mate pair. They lived to be 18 and 19. They never barked as puppies. They barked when necessary after the boyfriend of the time taught them to bark.
I got a Keeshond. Funny thing is most people dont know what breed it is, while i live in the Netherlands and it is a typical Dutch breed im astound people dont know this. Usually they think its a Chowchow. But a Kees doesnt look like that at all imo. They are also known in Germany as Wolfspitze.
I made a video about the Chow Chow comparison to clear up confusion for people: Keeshond vs Chow Chow : Breed Comparison ua-cam.com/video/qeQtf6Qt_-4/v-deo.html The comparison always confuses me bc not only do they look really different, but they act different, too.
0:05 I take my boy out for walks at his favorite place, the home center, and at least a half-dozen puople will ask of he-s a "KEESH-Hound". "A grey Norwegian Elkhound" 'Dash doesn't care what you call him as long as long as I call him in time for supper and there are lots of cuddles involved.
They selectively bark, but when they do, it is extremely loud. I still wouldn’t recommend a Keeshond to a person who lives in an apartment complex or who doesn’t enjoy barking in general.
THESE Breed is not a Keeshond...its a Wolfsspitz...the Danish People named the Wolfsspitz diffrently ...its THE OLDEST GERMAN Breed and first of all the WOLFSSPITZ... its 100% not a Keeshond.. total Crappy Name.
In our country no one knew Keeshond, bacause evryone thought that its a german spitz with wolf colour....and they are silly....great dogs...our Shadow was really big, bigger than yours....
I grew up taking many kees to dog shows and ive only ever heard people refer to kees as the dutch pronounciation hense why I made a contrarian comment. You're correct i just have never heard it pronounced that way!

Thank you for the video! I’m picking up my first Keeshond puppy in a month so it’s lovely to see the little fluff balls in action 😊
You will not believe how much your puppy's appearance will change in her/his first year. Keep their brushes handy!
Great job. Far more informative (and fun) than “official” breed guides and videos put out by various organizations. Thanks.

And one more thing: I love their "Cleopatra" eyes with a fine black line drawn from the corner of their eyes. 4:20
We got our first keeshond this summer. I sure hope we get snow this winter for him to play in.
I love the Pomeranian breed and I've fallen in love with the Keeshond breed. I will get one in the future for sure.

I have 2 kessies and you hit the nail on the head describing them! ❤️ Wouldn't change them for the world.
Best companion dogs ever!❤️❤️❤️
What breed are they
This was like getting to see my Chloe again. One of my best friends ever. 🖤🖤🖤
They portray so much emotion and they always seem to be smiling. They can also run like comets.
It is a giant pomeranian, such adorable dog!
This is what I say when people ask me the breed, as I usually get the response of “a what?” So I now follow it up with this!

Gotta do Sully next!!!!!!!!!!
Hates being picked up, walks, water, doorbells, toys (other than edible/chewable).
Loves snow, watching/listening, and human food ... can confirm.
Our Kees were great! Our female raised a kitten as its own, and he thinks he’s a dog😊
Same over here ❤
Love my baby so much ❤
Thank you for the video. I watched until 1:01 and decided I never want one 🙈 toooooo much barking.
I need another. I miss mine so much
That paw thing- we call it 'bossy paw' at our house.
Haha, awesome. We call that move "the demander", as in demanding😅
We've had 3...the best memories...although you will need a grooming plan...oh and a good straight suction vacuum cleaner, no beater bar...
Should i get one i am in texas!

No. It is too hot, and so many other breeds are easier to find.
I Icelandic Sheepdogs for one
My keeshond didn't bark much at all. Only when someone came to the yard or door. In fact, we trained him to whisper.
I miss my Tasha SO much.
Favorite breed.
2:32 he or she really likes snow😂❤
He loves it!
Mine saved the paw thing for night . 1 paw was time for bed. 2 was come on. 3 was quit horsing around we need to go now. He meant business
Nailed it. I have had 2.
My familys keeshond doesn't bark a lot.
In our house, "stop doing that you furry nutcase!!" is also an acceptable way of pronouncing 'keeshond'.
We have two both are sisters and we LOVE THEM!
sums perfect up how my 2 year old Keyshund keaaashond kaaashond erh.. Keeshond is

Very interesting! I have been producing Keeshond wrong lol 💖
They’re not excessive barkers. I’ve owned 7 since 1982 and they openly bark when there’s a good reason.
They selectively bark, but when they do, it is extremely loud. I still wouldn’t recommend a Keeshond to a person who lives in an apartment complex or who doesn’t enjoy barking in general.

All of ours prefer laying on the cold hard tile floor over a nice fluffy soft bed.
Their double coat actually makes them fine in heat. Amazing video.

We have a 4 yr old Keeshond and everything is exactly like yours except he is not a barker 😀
My kee would lay in our window and watch all the people walk by

Can be, but if you would pronounce the “o” in “hond” as the one in “bomb”, you would say it as the Dutch , the original way.
