    Great video, I also started making some wallets a few years back for family and friend and its very therapeutic like you said, I really enjoy it. I may have to look into the laser machine, that is a game changer. The family is not so happy when I start punching the stitching holes.

    The wallet looks great! Thanks for the video! I like your glue applicator. Question: do you get bad fumes from laser cutting the craft foam? It’s a great idea for prototypes.

    • @ValleyForged

      The craft foam does not seem to create very much fumes. Of course I have a good vent system as well. Thanks for the kind words.

    When using any leather glue you need to apply it to both sides that you are gluing. I personally have been using the same glue you're using for 2 years. It needs to set and look more clear before connecting the pieces.

    Nice video !!!! Just got an xtool 20w how can I clean the char after I burned a logo on leather .. seem to keep on staining the leather 🥲🥲

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  Рік тому

      First, make sure you are using THE BEST setting to get the lowest char. Use air to blow it off, don't use air assist. You could mask the area you do engraving as well. I don't get any char, but I use already dyed leather which may help. I suppose you could also pre-seal that area with some protection. Hope one or many of the above helps :)

    Does wetting veg tanned leather help with charring? I have a Atomstack A5, 5.5 watt and have to run 200/ 100% and 3 passes to cut all the way thru 4-5 oz leather.

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  9 місяців тому

      Eek! I feel for you. I have not tried to wet it with a diode, only Co2. Do some testing on a scrap and see if there is a difference. It may also alter the cutting ability.

    How are you copying the stitch holes to each layer to line up. I cannot get the "mirror across line" feature in LightBurn to work, to mirror stitch lines from a top half to a bottom half. Since some of the holes may need minor adjustment for spacing, its obviously critical to get those holes lines up for each layer. ???

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  11 місяців тому +1

      I put the pocket layer (with no holes) on top of the main layer and just copied the holes. I hope that makes sense. I appreciate the comment and will add this step in my next leather video.

    Cool channel! What size thread did you use or what size have you found works best for this wallet?

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  Рік тому +1

      Getting the thread and hole size / spacing right is def a trick. This size and spacing of this wallet is very masculine. Also, tiger thread is flat so looks larger than other threads. Mine are .8mm.

    Can you cut with d1 pro laser cut bright leather and not masking it?

    • @ValleyForged

      Of course it depends on the leather, thickness, etc...but yes, you just need to get your settings right.

    Hi, do you recommend diode laser 90w for cutting leather? I want to get one to cut synthetic leather.

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  Рік тому

      I don't know of a 90w diode laser. I have never cut synthetic leather as it is full of chemicals. I know some people do it, but I won't be much help, sorry.

    So how does leather cut on the Monport?

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  Рік тому

      I will have to try it at some point. I am sure it works fine, but I have it so dialed in on the LM3...and for my setup the Monport is just so much more difficult. Mine are outside, so the enclosure actually makes things harder in my case. I have a unique setup.

      I thought I went over that in the video. But I would say just start (even if just in your head). Go through the process, and when you need something, get it. That should save you $100 at least, lol.

    just curious, I know your diode is higher than 5watt, but what are your number of passes to actually cut the leather?

    • @ValleyForged
      @ValleyForged  6 місяців тому +1

      It all depends on the thickness of the leather, power settings, is it veg tanned (for sure)? For 3mm leather, you should be able to do it in one pass even with a 5w diode laser. Testing is everything
