- In this video we will be laser cutting and hand stitching a leather Field Notes case. This is a simple project even if you have very little experience with leatherworking. No laser? This pattern can also be printed out on standard size paper and is also available as an acrylic template set. I bought your acrylic template a couple of years ago and its my go to for presents. I've used baseball gloves for the inside credit card pocket and it's turned out very cool.

Not going to lie. I'm saddened to see more and more people going the route of laser cutters. I feel that there is just a little less artistry involved... not as unique as anything that is cut by hand. Technology is cool, but at some point, things are becoming less and less handmade.
It depends how you look at it. Using a laser is still handmade considering the work that’s involved in actually creating the file to be cut first. Once cut, depending on what it is, you have to put all of the pieces together. All of that requires the artists imaginations vision, the labor put in both creating the file and actually putting it together, and waiting for the machine to cut the material for you appropriately. But if the person buys another file, or just engraves words and stuff onto hard substrate surfaces? Then yes, I agree with you. There’s no art there and nothing handmade.
Also add in all the sanding, beveling, edge finishing, hand stitching...looks handmade to me.
