Marketing is about what and how do you want to speak about your brand to your customers while branding is how do you want your customers to speak about your brand.
1. Branding what and why, marketing about how 2. Branding long term, marketing short term 3. Branding macro, marketing micro 4. Branding trajectory, marketing strategy 5. Branding build loyalty, marketing quick action 6. Branding create value, marketing monetize value
Marketing is a process in which companies attract new customers by creating superior value while maintaining and growing existing customers by satisfying their needs and desires. And Branding refers to building a brand by driving reach, recognition and positioning to positively impact the minds and hearts of potential customers.
I’ve paid for courses that couldn’t explain this to save their lives. Less than 15 minutes with you and I now have a crystal clear understanding. Thank you for your concise and highly effective explanation!!!
That is the best definition of branding I have ever heard. I'm trying to get into branding but have been branding my entire career without even realising it! 😂 Thanks again.
Excellent video - as someone who’s spent most of my marketing career specifically in product marketing, I’m just now realizing that brand marketing and creating brand equity are by far my favorite part of the role. I’m all about the long-form story, the why. I care much less about the tactics.
You need to differentiate between Brand Marketing and Direct Marketing. Marketing as a whole encompasses Branding. Think of Marketing as a pizza and Branding being one of the slices. You can't just attribute random feelings and verbs to words and make up your own definitions. If you were comparing Brand Marketing (long term positioning) vs. Direct Marketing (immediate action) then I would say this video is better suited to the explain the 2. Otherwise I think you have confused some people even more who now think Branding is separate and somehow not part of the Marketing process. An agency/company can be a marketing agency while offering Branding services as well as Direct Marketing services.
Completely agree. A lot of videos seem to intentionally misinterpret what marketing is to fit their narrative rather than, as you say, treat marketing as the Pizza.
Your explanation was very clear. I've watched numerous videos on the topic, even from some of the big names in the field, but always ended up confused. They usually left me with only theoretical discussions in mind, making the difference between the two seem like just a nuance. Thank you
Succinct and clear. I've been at this for 26 years, and you taught me some great stuff here. I'm very appreciative for your time and work in giving us value! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Without having watched...branding is how its packaged (the look of it, colors scheme, ) marketing is who are you selling it too( selling it to men , women, what age of men or women etc.
Excellent explanation of branding. But marketing is an administrative customer-centric philosophy that requires understanding the changing needs of consumers and making sure the product or service is relevant (product design), the price strategy is aligned with the value perception (economy), and assuring is accessible where they look for it (logistics and distribution). I believe you are comparing Marcom and Branding. Nonetheless, great reflection of branding.
Fantastic video. I wonder if you have a video on how to make effective videos, to the point, short and sweet. Because you hit the nail on the head here! Great job!
Limited Scope: The video mainly portrays marketing as advertising and promotion. Modern marketing is much broader..Ignoring the strategic element: Marketing is not just about “how, where and when” to promote products. It involves a deep understanding of your target audience, their needs and the competitive landscape. Developing a solid marketing strategy is essential to achieving long-term growth, something that video neglects.research is a neglected topic
Hello sir, I appreciate the professionalism in this video explaining the general differences branding and marketing, and what they are supposed to do. (Super Heroes are the BRAND of companies like Marvel and DC.) I would like to ask a question in relation to what they DO NOT do, and hopefully you respond. Let's say you have a company that deals in fiction (i.e. Marvel, DC or game series), my question is. . . does the Brand Manager control the writing/directing/development of the lore for the fiction?
Hey Celine - thanks for that feedback, I really appreciate it. Let me know if there is anything else around marketing/branding you are looking for in terms of videos - I take requests😇
I like to learn about branding. Recently, I found your channel. These days I am studying your tutorials. Can you please recommend me an online branding course that covers A-Z about branding?
Thanks for bringing clarity to these two terms that often get muddled. QUESTION: Do you consider there to be a distinct between "Branding" or "Brand Design" and "Identity Design"?
Branding is an over=arching range of activities. Brand Design focuses on the visual design of the brand (broader than just the logo (like thumbnails, websites, ads, content etc). Identity Design is about designing logos, color palettes and specifically associated company visual assets.
I understand that this happens to be some peoples careers etc. and so they have to care about bla bla like "Brand" and "Marketing" but to be honest, if you provide a good product, and its cheaper than other "brands" on the market, you win in the future. 2022 is the year people stop giving a damn about brands, and start caring about value, price and utility. To care about brands is to have a first world problem....
@@bunnyman6321 The fact that competing on price (death 90% of the time unless you do massive volume ex: Walmart) and product quality is all you need to succeed in the market.

Recognition and recall are intertwinned. Behavioral Science and marketing effectivness research tells us that we have to create mental availability (aka memories) for a customer to buy - but also the ability to recognize the product on a shelf (digital or physical). There's no point in branding if it's only about recognizing a brand rather than recalling it when a buying occassion arises - it has to do both.
Marketing is about what and how do you want to speak about your brand to your customers while branding is how do you want your customers to speak about your brand.
Lio - I love this distillation of the concept - really tight!

Can an agency do both?
Yes. Larger agencies do. Smaller agencies not as much.

I think that your vision of marketing is very narrow; branding is a part of marketing and Mktg is strategic as well as tactic
