I remember renting this shortly after it released and, while not anything to write home about, I found it quite enjoyable. A few years later I picked it up for like 10 or 15 bucks in a bargain bin. Totally worth it imo. Tbh what really kept me interested enough to complete the game was defeating bosses and acquiring their weapons. Reminded me of Mega Man in that regard.
I remember my friend got this when we were about 11, and man we played it for like 10 hours straight. I liked all the mysticism and whatnot and the futuristic feel. I got it again when I was around 21 for nostalgia and yea I noticed how repetitive the enemies were, but still had a good time with it. Here I am 10 years later watching your video 😂
It's a shame that the weapon combos don't get decent until you level them up a few times. I played through the game several times and got every weapon level 10, but it's definitely a grind haha. The dual blades you get on NG+ are OP
A great review as always! I remember renting this game for 3 days, looking forward to a lot of fun, only to never play it again and forget all about it haha
The game doesn’t get enough credit for the variety of weapons and weapon level up system.. the concept of the weapon variety and system was great but the systems that could handle it were not there yet.. DMC5 was an absolutely fantastic game and they could have taken a page from this game to level up each weapon rather than just getting souls to spend on u grades for the weapon.. I did really enjoy this game and it was great back in the day
I remember owning this is in 2002 and playing it through so many times that I had every weapon in the game at max level. I wish I knew exactly how many times i beat this game.
@@RetroGameRaterOr I was just a disturbed individual at the age of 12 because I honestly thought this game was really good at the time. Now I can see the error of my ways.
I also played it as a kid back in the day. I enjoyed the hell out of this, even tho there were some areas that really frustrated me. Somehow nostalgia let me think this is a forgotten hidden gem nowadays, oh well...
This was given to me on my 18th birthday and I was actually intrigued by it when it I saw it, the story looked interesting despite being stupid. I figured it would play like a Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry and I was a fan of Yukes cause of the Smackdown games, when I did play it I put it away after about ten mins and did not come back to it for many months. This game was awful. The camera and the platforming is atrocious. The fighting is very basic and boring. I have tried it a few times since that day to try and finish it but I always get so bored after the first three levels, the game has remained uncompleted by me. I still have my copy that I have tried to get rid of for years but nobody wants to take it off my hands, I have even offered to simply give it away and yet......no takers. Shows how bad the game is when people don't even want a free copy of it. I agree with your score.
It's a shame really, Yuke's made some of my favorite wrestling games. But when you consider their other output has this, Beserk Guts Rage (which is awful imo) and Evil Zone on PS1, you can tell these other games are not their strong suit.

Literally thought this game was just a dream that I happened to remember for the longest time, glad to see it was actually a real thing lmao
Oh it was real alright.
I use to play this when I was a kid and teen lol one of my favorite back then.
I thought this game was a fever dream. Glad to know I actually had this game as a kid.
let a friend borrow this when I was in elementary. Dude never gave it back and moved so I lost it forever. Always wanted to get it again.

I had a similar experience back in the day. This game was traded very quickly.

This is one game I bought new, sealed, beat it, sold it, forgot about it.

You're certainly a lot more patient than me.

Nice review
Thanks 👍
My little brother had this game. Always thought it was pretty corny and i hated watching him play it over and over again.

Glad I'm not the only one who struggled with this game.

I know what you mean.
It's funny, as soon as I saw the main character, I though he looked like a created wrestler from one of the old smackdown games.
tbis could be use in android port
Dat musik!
