Nice Break down. Till last month I had been using the Wilson D350 and they were great Irons. Moved to the Callaway Rogue ST MAX OS because they play like the Launch Pads but look more like Regular clubs. Needed more Distance and Forgiveness as I am getting older.. Looked at the D9 but felt they are just a little hard off the club Face..
Great review as always Tim, hoping you will soon be reviewing the Dynapwr range. I am a senior golfer (68) with a 7 iron swing speed of 79 mph do you think i would have any issues launching a strong lofted iron, as you replied to Geo Man, i am one of those front of the green and run up players than a land and stop player.
Well I would say wilson D9 are lovely I had some but 3 months ago I wanted a blade so went for cobra model tech and now I am getting better and the winter arrived so losing yardage but they are great .Paul 16 handicapper who shot his handicap today playing no risky shots . Think OK red zone no go area amber OK but has a risk green area is the best area to get the result . I shot 36 points . conditions wet under foot.
D9s are loud in testing , and not too bad on the actual course , but still on the loud side ,as i have just stuck a full set (11 clubs ) of them in the bag for the forthcoming season , especially after hitting a sand wedge 116 yds with a draw , previous set went 80-90 yds with a fade or slice , 6 iron 148 yds in winter conditions, which was a 5/4 iron distance before , and 5 hybrid going 180 yds in winter conditions , where that was 3 wood territory before , so for 1 , i can live with the noise ,and i have a typical launch angle of 14 degrees across the bag , and if the new Dynapower range goes as far . Wilson will be back as a major contender in many a bag in the forth coming season ,considering their price point
@@TimElliottGolf ended up getting the callaway apex 21's, the shaft option where a much better fit for me. gained about 5 yards on old clubs but whole lot of spin, so will hold greens now.
Getting fitted for D9s (not forged) very soon I get on better with the lite shafts which will help the launch and the price is outstanding considering it matches the big 4 on performance, Wilson is very underrated in the market 🏌️
I sold my taylormade sim 2 max irons as I always felt that I was too tall being 6'2 in height and they were standard length and lie, so really looking forward to it 🤞
distance is good but if my 7 iron goes 150 yards all the time I can work with that number, I play the Cobra Forged Tec Black a cavity back I would give those CB's a test
If you were picking up a used set...D7 or D9? , keeping in mind the D7s are a good bit less $$? Have you switched out of the D7 yet? Do you see much difference between the two? Seeing as though you play the D7, I see you as the best source on UA-cam to ask this.
Hi Tim I’m looking to get some new forgiving irons, I have only been playing around a year and I’m using a cheap package set at the moment I have been looking at the Wilson D9s and the launchpad and also the Cleveland launcher halo or cobra t rail, which ones would you recommend and do you think getting fitted is worth it?
Great review, in particular I was interested in the difference between the blades, CB and D9 forged. I've been playing Callaway Razr-x irons (not the tour spec) for a good few years now and time for a change. I play off 6 and feel that I launch my current irons a bit too high. I think I would play better golf with a slimmer sole for better turf interaction and have less fliers. Tim what launch and landing angle windows would be good numbers to look out for when testing new clubs and in particular for the D9 forged and CB? I'm looking to move away from game improvement irons and into more of a player's profile that would give me fairly consistent yardages ( I average my current 7 iron around 155 yards @ *32 loft). What clubs would you recommend I should include in a test alongside the D9 forged? Also would the CB be comparable to the likes of P770, ZX7, i230, t100s or Pro 223? Cheers.
@@TimElliottGolf Thanks a lot Tim, I'll definitely try them out and might include something from the Mizuno JPX range in testing also. I typically launch a 7 iron a bit higher at *21/22 which is probably due to me not compressing the ball well enough. I'm keen to find a set that will give me reliable yardages and tight dispersion rather than all out distance. As a D9 forged player yourself, how have you managed the gapping at either side of the bag? For example I currently have a Callaway 3-hybrid *18 (non adjustable)at one end and my zipcore wedges are *52&*56. The player distance lofts are quite strong across all brands.
@@TimElliottGolf Thanks very much Tim. Given the standard lofts across the players distance category I'm leaning towards a 5-PW set and 4 hybrid. It's either that or I tweak the lofts slightly on a custom fitting.
@@conalsands4748 Personally I like hitting long irons but there's a lot to be said for a hybrid too. Hybrid is more versatile from different lies but I find that I'm usually fighting too much of a draw with them. I can control the iron shot better but launch might be a bit lower than a hybrid. I ended up going with Mizuno pro 223 4-PW after testing almost everything in the shop. I just found them easiest to hit and great feel. Wilson CB and D9 forged were the next best imo.
@@Joe-kt7eq tnks, I am definitely looking at forged irons next, probaly the d9f but unsure whether to go for 4-pw or 5 - Gw I know the 4 is 22° As is my current hybrid , my current GI 5 is more like the forged 4 loft so I'd be getting near the same distance bug maybe I could get a 19 hybrid and the 4i and the gapping would be better then
I've had the D7 and had a problem with rusting. I have seen 3 sets of D7's rust. On Wilson's site, the CB is rusting as well. Wilson has been in business too long for this to be happening. I want the D9's but afraid to buy because of the rust. Shame.
Really enjoyed this new subscriber Tim thanks.
Have the cb and love them, from w iron up to pw,good feel, distance and quality
D9 Forged is a great club. Bought a set this summer. 🙂
This is an excellent review. Wilson is a great under rated less expensive brand. Essentially the D9 is a 5 iron stamped as a 7 iron i would suggest.
Data on flight, apex, launch angle, descent angle and shaft length will probably contradict you
Nice comparison just purchased D9 forged, help and feel from these clubs
Great review, Tim. Thank you for posting your results.
@@TimElliottGolf Currently play D7 Forged, with a set of D9 Forged as my backup set.

Yes D9F sound is pleasing after basic D9.

That 'image screen' certainly looks damaged. How accurate are these computer generated display's ?
Very accurate data. It’s just the projection and the screen than is damaged. Not the launch monitor. 👍🏻

It's a little unfair, when the lofts are so different .
Tks anyhow 👍
Everyone should have a progressive set. 5 handicap golfers have no business hitting a blade long iron.
From a coaching stand point. Absolutely. 👍🏻 but everybody have their preferences.

Its about the person behind the club hitting it …
CB looks really small!
