4/13/2022 - Hello Sophie. I discovered your YT channel fairly recently and look forward to your reviews. I’m a 72 year old guy who is getting back into golf after a 5-year layoff due to an injury and 2 new hips. I am looking for more distance and still like decent looking irons vs the Game Improvement irons. Just had a fitting for new irons and tried the Callaway APEX, APEX DCB, Rogue ST Pro, Srixon ZX5, Mizuno Pro 225, Cobra Forged Tec and the Wilson D9 Forged. The 3 finalists were the Mizuno, Wilson, and Cobra. All 3 felt solid and came off the club head great. For me the Wilson launched lower than the other 2 and the Cobra was longer by about 5 yards. This Friday Cobra is coming out with their new version of the Forged Tec so am hitting the current version and the new version to see if the new version is significantly better. I will re-hit the Wilson as well. Really liked the look of that club and was pulling for it going into the fitting, but need to let the numbers and feel guide my final choice. Thanks again for your reviews. Your swing speed and ball striking is much more relatable than watching guys with 90+ mph 7 iron speeds. 4/30/2022 - Update - after my latest fitting! Well, hitting and comparing the Wilson to the Cobra one more time. The Wilson won - ended up comparable distance, but much better feel and softness, and tighter dispersion. Now the waiting begins for them to get here! I am super excited to put these in my bag. Now the search for a new driver, fairway irons and wedges. The only club I'm keeping is my putter.
Sophie, I switched out my Ping i500 and hit everything from Callaway, Mizuno, Srixon, Ping a few models in each and different shafts to try and get my spin and launch to match my delivery. I also hit both the D7 and D9 forged irons. For ME nothing felt better and was more consistent than the D7 forged. The Mizuno JPX forged and D9 Forged were second best for feel and consistency of strike, but my best strikes with those felt like my worst strikes with the D7 forged. I "settled" on the D7 forged and couldn't be happier. They were used but still in the plastic so the price was outstanding. I would like a thinner top line but when they feel as good and fly as consistent I can get used to it. I am still dialing in the distances but they will be in the bag for a LONG time.
I got the Wilson cb forged irons last year, love the feel and at fraction of the price. Plus I got my set within a week…,I had to wait 3 months for a taylormade driver
What’s the forgiveness on these? One got some old Nike VR forged combo irons but I want something more forgiving on off centre hits, coming up short too often lately
I bought Wilson D7 forged Irons just before the discontinued them. I have really enjoyed them. I’m relatively new to golf and my handicap has already dropped to 16.5. They feel great, good distance and height and I like how they look. I suspect the D9 Forged is a incremental improvement. Thanks for the videos, really enjoy the content you put out.
I had a Wilson 5 and 7 iron in the 80s when I was first learning. Loved them. Now excited to try these. Hoping my age and [lack of] talent will allow me to play these. Thank you Sophie. Was waiting for you to review these.
Hands down Ms. Walker you are the BEST golf club reviewer on you tube. Your kind but don’t pull any punches in your descriptions. I have already looked at and purchased several clubs based on your reviews. Now I have to give these irons a shot.
My first “starter set” had Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge irons. In the mid 1960’s I bought a set of Staff X31 irons and played them until 2001 or so when I bought a set of Wilson Fat Shaft irons. I played the fat shafts until last year when I purchased a set of cast D9’s. One of my major golf regrets was selling my set, driver, 3, 4, and 5-wood of black Wilson Staff persimmon woods.
Hi. I have always had a set of Wilsons in my bag, because they have always performed well for me and i like the fact that they don't have to advertise the fact that they are so good. My first set was the original fat shafts. I now have the D7's. I am looking to change them to the new D9 forged irons. People that have used Wilson Irons just know how good they are.
I have the original d9 choose over d7 forged .. for extra forgiveness/ distance . The Cb and staff model blades are the best looking irons going … these look great as well
Yes I have the willson d9 irons grafite shafts and I love them. Easy to hit .my handicap is 15 .and since I got them my handicap has gone down it was 21 .
I´ve been playing a set of Wilson Staff Forged Progressive irons since 1994. Mid handicapper then and higher now in my old age. Recently began updating my wedge set with the Wilson Staff Model wedges just for fun. I´ve always gone for the feel of forged irons over pure distance. More overall fun for me. The Progressive irons are very highly lofted compared to modern clubs. I would certainly be interested in these new D9 irons if I was in the market now.
I've played the Wilson D7 Forged for a couple of years. Great clubs and even better value then. Much more consistent distance control than my previous GI irons. Helped bring my handicap down
My first set of fitted irons were Wilson Staff RM. They helped reduce my handicap from 12 to 5 in one season. I will say though that my game was already improving.
Great to see you Soph! Miss seeing you on certain muppet course vlogs 😬 I’m a Wilson fanboy and still game the FG Tour F5’s, and love the D9 fairways! Cheers!
Thanks for the great video Sophie! Alot of the videos only show the launcher data but you go a step further and take us on the course with you to give us first hand how they actually perform.
Have I ever used Wilson? Too right! I played FG49 staff blades including a 1-iron in a s400 shaft. Now have the D9 forged…. These are lovely and hitting 7-iron 170yrs with a ball speed >120mph. They are so soft and wow! Not too bad for someone near 60, although my blade days saw me play near scratch golf.
I recognize those power strips. I had a set of Wilson Reflex irons way back in the 80's. My first set of not garage sale throw away clubs. Loved them..
Have always been a Wilson Staff fan - gamed the C300 Forged. "Forged" doesn't mean forged like it used to, though (including in the C300 Forged). The D9 Forged have a forged piece of the club head (the face in this instance, though it's cast, first, and then a final shape forging). It does feel pretty good, though, and other OEMs have done something similar with this "category" of clubs, calling them "forged", though it's individual pieces which are forged and then assembled versus something like a Mizuno Pro 221. Great that they have figured out how to build-in some technology and "help" while retaining a decent sound/feel.
Current gamers are the C300 Forged. I play off a 16/17 currently. I had an old R7 almost blade-like set before that. I was quite nervous when I bought the C300 as I was told Forged was for better players, at the time I was a 21HC. I love these clubs and my game definitely improved. The feel on misfits using the C300 Forged let's you know. And my ball striking improved because of wanting that addictive feel on a good strike. Wilson is a great brand. Enjoyed your review of the D9 Forged.
Love my Wilson Clubs. When you play with them there really is little reason to want to spend more. For a fraction of the price you get pretty much all the performance you will ever need. I will say though they need to improve the lineup of drivers and woods to come in line with their irons.
You reviewed a set of Mizuno (I believe)forged irons and could not get them to go as far as you expected. This set really suited you. Thanks for the knowledge!
I have the wilson fat shaft : R Mendralla irons , they are gorgeous. They are quite small faced with a narrow sole , but they glide so well through the shot. I got mine for about £80.
Sophie, the Deep Red Fat Shaft Driver, 3 and 5 woods were very very good, I loved mine and regularly managed 290 to 300 yds with driver in my younger days, also, the Thailand Caddies loved the shiny Red crowns and used to check their make up in them😂😂. Never played Wilson irons, always played Ping irons.
Traded in my old set of irons for these D9 Forged. Love them. Quite forgiving, consistent distances and they look great too. Hugely under rated brand. (More majors have been won with Wilson irons than any other brand)
I used to have a set of the Wilson Fatshaft irons when I was younger and they were the straightest hitting irons I have ever owned. Great review and the irons look really good 👍
Great reiew: I also think Wilson makes great irons...I own a set of Wilson FG V6 forged irons I bought a few years ago and they stack up against my Hogan PTx Pro iron, in both price, looks and perforamce..They are one deg less loft but are a few yard farther, and I think that this is because of the TT Shaft over the KBS shaft...But I believe that after the FG V6 irons Wilson droped the ball with their limited custom build...And I don't like the half lofts in irons...Reminds me of a time Mr. Hogan asked his caddie, one of the few times I might add, What do you think, caddie said 145, or 146, Hogan said, which one, make up your mind...Wilson needed to get back to reality and make good clubs with lofts that are real...My FG V6 7 iron is a 35 loft, theses are 30.5....Looks great, priced great but, when I want to hit a 7 iron, I don't want it to be a 6 iron loft...Wilson I like but lofts and set lies I DON'T........
Playing with a full set of these and i luv um. The only club i have that i dont use is the GW. I still like my jaws 48 to fill that gap. Highly recommended for golfers of all abilities...
I’m looking into these clubs for myself. I’m currently a 24 handicap but have been getting lessons and improving my consistency a lot. I currently have Cobra FP and FP2s all hodgepodged. Some graphite some steel and some not a clue( all the lettering is off them) I want a set that is all the same everything that I can grow with for a good while. These just always catch my eye so much
I had wilson fat shaft irons 15 years ago but then due to a back injury stopped playing the sport. Looking to get back into the game with a new set and cant decide between these or the taylor made stealths. i use to be an 18 handicap
I'm playing the D7 forged irons and they are really nice. Got them as an unused "used" set with KBS C-Taper Lite stiff shafts and Golf Pride MCC +4 grips for 2/3rds the price of new. Still had the plastic wrap over the head.
I’d like to see you include the Landing Angle into your Trackman as it is actually essential for a proper Ironfitting. Agree with the D9 Forged, they are like the g 425s, just feel and sound better. only issue with Wilson Irons is the number of Repairs you gotta issue because the tend to fall apart more then others. Great ironcompany nonetheless. Love your reviews.
I’ve played the Staff Model blades for a year now. Fantastic clubs! As I get older I’m needing more distance. These look like they could be great replacements.
I like the looks of the D9. As a high handicap golfer I wonder if going to these from my Mizuno JPX 919 hot metals would be a regret. When I purchased the Mizunos several years ago, the fitter added 2 deg. loft and 2 deg. flat to the order. My 9 iron goes 105 - 110 and my 7 iron is only 130 - 135. My 6 iron, 145 - 150. What do you think, will the Wilson D9 help or just deplete my bank account ? I have always been curious about the better feel of a forged club.
I’m a little confused as to who these irons are for. I currently shoot upper 80s to low 90s. These irons are beautiful and I’m in the market for new irons. The D9’s are nice as well so I’m torn which iron would be best for me. Thanks for the great video!!
These have been catching my eye. As well as the Sun 70 and New Level irons. But after watching this I think I’m ordering the Wilson D9’s. Thanks Sophie !
These look nice! Great point about the longevity potential of some irons. Never needed help with distance, but since I just turned 47 😯👴, that's something I should start considering. Great review as always. Thanks
Hi Sophie - great review I currently play the Willson V6 which I really enjoy - very good feel and quite forgiving Being traditional in lofts ( 7 iron 35 degrees) I don’t get as much distance these days - I am 72 on a 18 handicap - I think the D9 forged will provide that bit of extra distance without sacrificing feel
Have a set of these and highly recommended. Was hitting them and AP2s (Titleist) at the range today and the Wilsons are longer and feel as good IMO. Very pretty clubs which probably strike a balance between player and forgiving/distance better than just about any iron out there ATM and at 75% of the price of of the big four. Go get ‘‘em I reckon
I am playing a set of Cobra F Max Airspeed irons at the moment. But I am having a full bag re- fitting next Thursday. I found my Cobras a bit heavy. So I am going to get sorted out. I thing for ladies, Ping G le 2 irons might be lighter. But I mustn't pre judge my fitting. I will have to see what the fitting guys at my club come up with.
Hey Sophie, thanks for the review. I love these irons. They feel amazing. Hit them now twice at various golf shops. How do you think they’ll hold up? Will all that shiny chrome start to look really bad after just a few rounds? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Have two sets but the one that gets the most play is the Callaway Apex DCB 4-aw. Love the field if not the looks. Like the D9 looks but can't find them locally yet.
Could you do a review on the cheaper Wilson clubs Sets like the SGI for women ? I'm new to golf and I find it difficult to find cheaper still decent clubs for beginners
I had a lesson yesterday and my teaching pro is fitting these this season and said how good they are so I'm going to get a fitting and see what they're like as I'm looking to replace my Taylormade M3 irons this year as I feel like I no longer have enough clubhead speed to get the best out of them so think a set of players distance irons are on the cards (current whs index 11.1 age 65 7i 148 yds) should I get the gap wedge too as I have Ping glide 3.0 50, 55 and 60 degree wedges at the moment. Cheers Ade
I bought the high lofted version in the blade. Love, love, love them! They are so long. The PW is 48 degrees and flies 156 for me at sea level. It is just shocking. They feel so good!
I've played the c300 forged for couple years, they are nice and soft of the face, okay they don't go a million miles as I'm getting older. £440 new custom fitted. But you need to know what shafts you need.
Always played forged clubs growing up and only recently went to a hollow body club. Good but feel is not the same. Just bought a set of D9 forged from clubhouse for £649. Bargain. I dont need the low loft of rhe D9. Need a bit more launch and spin. D9 forged is quite low lofted but tje shafts i will have in are high launch and spin so that should help.
I’ve used for 10 to 12 years a Wilson staff Ultra system 45. I got an extra stiff steel irons 1 to 9, pw & sw & my woods 7.5 driver, 13 3-wood, 4&5. I just select the 13 clubs depending on the course I am playing. I am curious of the loft of the irons. Can I get it Re 5 -9, pw & sw coz I intend to get 3,4 & 5 hybrid plus the driver10.5 3&5 woods. How much would it cost now? Thx
so are these, game improvement, players distance, the original D9 are game improvement, I gamed the D300 a few years ago, those chunky monkeys were game improvement, I now game the Cobra Forged Tec smaller head but it fits my game better, those are players distance irons, so are the D9 forged in that category
The similar name ("D9" and "D9 Forged") causes confusion but these are 2 completely different club sets - the length, lie, loft, bounce, swing weight, metal, shape, size. The D9 (not forged) came out last year and is a larger, stronger lofted, non-forged game improvement iron. The D9 Forged just came out last week and is a forged, more expensive, players distance iron. PS - Sophie, love your content. Keep it up.
This is what I'd like to know too, I always wonder if a forged club is harder to hit and less forgiving that an GI club what's the real benefit , for a mid HCer would these make the game harder overall , and in the distance of hits too
Props to Wilson for sending a full set. It makes for much better reviews than when companies send UA-camrs just the 7 irons, or just a partial set.
4/13/2022 - Hello Sophie. I discovered your YT channel fairly recently and look forward to your reviews. i had the forged tec switched to d9 forged for less offset.

Second year golfing. Started in March 2021 with a beautiful second hand set of d7s. Still in love with them.
I got the Wilson cb forged irons last year, love the feel and at fraction of the price. Plus I got my set within a week…,I had to wait 3 months for a taylormade driver
I use wilson r mendrala fatshaft . love them.wilson invex driver , 3 Wood and the 5..love looking at wilson clubs , they look so cool 😎
For a number of years, I played the Wilson C7 irons and liked them a lot. Nice review.
Played my first full round with D9 Forged 5-GW today and am super happy. Getting them properly fitted helped of course.
What’s the forgiveness on these? One got some old Nike VR forged combo irons but I want something more forgiving on off centre hits, coming up short too often lately
@@George-cz9go I find them forgiving enough. Not as much as the normal D9s, but good enough for my game.

good review! I had Wilson c200 irons which I liked very much.
Sophie what shafts were you using in this review of these irons please, ie; flex snd shaft material.
Thanks great review
I play the forged version but with Recoil shafts
-forgiving and powerful-they have a nice soft feel on impact also.
Great to see you Soph! Miss seeing you on certain muppet course vlogs 😬

Have a full set off d7 forged play off 4 , love them it’s feel like butter . Srixon driver an hybrid.

Have always been a Wilson Staff fan - gamed the C300 Forged. "Forged" doesn't mean forged like it used to, though (including in the C300 Forged). Got my set of D9 forged last week. Delighted with them, hitting them really solid. Such a nice set of irons.
@MeandMyStaffy less offset than forged tec and thinner top line etc. much less bulk than forged tec
@MeandMyStaffy very little offset which is what I love. Top line looks nice too, maybe not the slimmest but certainly not thick
I have played Wilson Staff for years. Looking to upgrade my clubs. Will definitely give them som consideration.
I play the Wilson v6 forged....had the Titleist T100...JPX921....P790 but still go back to my Wilsons...
Love my Wilson Clubs. When you play with them there really is little reason to want to spend more. For a fraction of the price you get pretty much all the performance you will ever need. I will say though they need to improve the lineup of drivers and woods to come in line with their irons.

I have the D7 forged and love them! I think I'll probably trade them in for these though when my Christmas bonus comes in!
Thanks for your good review , especially the price very much looking forward to trying them .
I'm playing Adams Pro Black CB1's and love them to bits
Thanks
Hi Sophie - great review
I currently play the Willson V6 which I really enjoy - very good feel and quite forgiving
Being traditional in lofts ( 7 iron 35 degrees) I don’t get as much distance these days - I am 72 on a 18 handicap - I think the D9 forged will provide that bit of extra distance without sacrificing feel
Great review , I currently have the caley irons in my club but looking to upgrade and these are definitely in my eye line now
Might be the best iron for the money in the world right now. And yes, I am playing them :).
Nice review I enjoy when testers do both inside & outdoor. Also great to see the full set and what they look like from top down
Great review Sophie Wilson offer great value and quality very underrated.
Playing Ping G425s. Love the distance and forgiveness.
Yep I use sgi but are looking at these
I agree, Cobra is extremely underrated. More golfers would do well to check out their offset fairways. Easiest to hit out there IMO.
Have two sets but the one that gets the most play is the Callaway Apex DCB 4-aw. Love the field if not the looks. Like the D9 looks but can't find them locally yet.
loved my C300s, love my D9s, more, I replaced the shafts with Ping AWTs reg.
Cheers Ade
Would graphite shafts be easier to hit rather than steel shafts?
Just bought a set D9 Forged, 730$ converted from Swedish crowna 🙂
Using the D,7 irons, great clubs
I bought the high lofted version in the blade. Love, love, love them! They are so long. The PW is 48 degrees and flies 156 for me at sea level. It is just shocking. They feel so good!
I've played the c300 forged for couple years, they are nice and soft of the face, okay they don't go a million miles as I'm getting older. £440 new custom fitted. But you need to know what shafts you need.
They look great and they sound great. Very helpful review.
Always played forged clubs growing up and only recently went to a hollow body club. Good but feel is not the same. Just bought a set of D9 forged from clubhouse for £649. Bargain. I dont need the low loft of rhe D9. Need a bit more launch and spin. D9 forged is quite low lofted but tje shafts i will have in are high launch and spin so that should help.
curious, how do these stack up to the Callaway Mavrik Pro irons that received a stellar review? similarities and differences.
finally got mine in. they are fantastic
I Use the fg tour v4 irons and they are awesome feeling clubs.
Have D7 forged and love them
How do they compare to Tour Edge C522 or C523?
Keep it up.
I just bought a set today. Hopefully they come in in two weeks.
Did you get them online or in shop , just iv heard recently that custom fitting might be out at this time so just off the shelf if any sets left
@@conalsands4748 I got them fitted in a shop I should get them in about a week or two
I am currently playing the standard D9 and I am thinking of upgrading to the forged version. Do you think it is worth making the move?
I’m playing Taylormade M6 irons but seriously considering Wilson D9 forged. My question is, are they for a mid-handicap player (11-14)?
This is what I'd like to know too, I always wonder if a forged club is harder to hit and less forgiving that an GI club what's the real benefit , for a mid HCer would these make the game harder overall , and in the distance of hits too
D9 forged or Srixon ZX5? What's your choice? Thnx
I played the zx5’s last season and just ordered these for this year. The D9’s feel much softer and less clickey then the zx5’s.
Wilson blades 7-pw 50 54 tour Wedges , best clubs on the market
