10 cents of strain relife mising in desighn disabled a realy interesting piece of kit. Might be interesting to see what kind of wire it is. Now days all cheap out on copper, puting even more insulation to compensate, extremly thin wires perhaps hoping they wont brake so fast. Not to mention that Aluminium is now used in cheap data cables, if termination is good and there is no flexing or vibration it can be used whit caution but othervise it fails ten times faster than copper. Be aware that there are copper plated cables for speakers on regular base. They are much cheaper, but avoid using them for serious instalation. Best regards
Thanks for advice, the one for audio speakers cable it's really important, I recall years ago I bought like 10m of really thick cable for a subwoofer and I did an experiment with a 10amps car fuse at the end, I applied 12V from a car battery, the fuse was alive! I return it instantly and replace it with regular electric cable same size, pure copper...no problem burning fuses after. The SONY power cable it's indeed copper, I could apply solder easy, I believe the problem was like a stepping on the cable and smash it...or bad treat of some sort. You're right, I found transformers made with a kind of ''copperish'' cover, I couldn't solder anyhow with tin and flux...eventually scrapping I found bare aluminum under…and of course still wonder why those transformers are so weak and so hot! But the worse is those X-mas lights, with wires like hair got broken only plant it in to the tree...
Hi, the problem i have with my sony minidisc, is that it wont switch on but the red light is on, do you have any idea what this would be, ie the switch sensor maybe? thank you, Paulk

It's hard to say, check the voltages first...it can be a power supply problem.
