I like Nalgene bottles because I can pour extra boiling/hot water into them. Not sure if the smart bottles can take the heat or if they deform. Also I use nalgenes as hot water bottles in my sleeping bag on a cold night. Any experience using a smart bottle in this way?
Great point, Peter-- to be clear, I would DEFINITELY AVOID pouring boiling water into a Smartwater bottle! In terms of consuming very hot liquids, I usually carry a Starbucks reusable mug that fits the bill (and weighs just .9 oz- see my video on "5 Lighter & Cheaper Alternatives"). I have used the hot water bottle technique in the past (with a Nalgene) but for the last few years, I have been doing calisthenics at night so I can start the night warm. In my experience, a sleeping bag will do a better job 'keeping me warm' than 'warming me up'! Thanks for the comment!
I've been shaving pounds, now ounces from my gear. I carry (2) 1L smarts with the flip tops. One the front inside a Chicken Tramper mesh pouch and one on the side pocket. Bought the flip tops from Garage Grown Gear before I knew that certain bottle already had them. I guess I don't go to the cool supermarkets.
Unfortunately Nalgene bottles can break because I was walking down the stairs at my apartment and it slipped out of my hand and it hit the pavement on the corner from probably about 5 feet up and water started leaking out of the crack so I don’t think they’re invincible. I had the one that’s more like a clear color so maybe some of them were built differently but the one I had definitely did not survive a fall onto a hard surface
Love personal tips like the ones in here! I just have to find something likewise since we don't have "Smart Water bottles" in Sweden 🇸🇪 Edit: the elastic part you secure the lower part of the bottle, did you make that yourself?
Thanks for the comment! Yes, the little bit of elastic is a scrap from another backpack that I had trimmed off and saved. I initially didn't use it but found that they helped prevent the bottles from swinging around too much when i put my backpack on/off or climb over trees and rock scrambles.
@@bugtentoutside5611 Thanks! Did you "sew" it onto your Osprey backpack? The elastic wrap that is. Going to order some of the plastic buckle thingies, but from here (www.amazon.com/dp/B085G2PCXS/ref=dp_prsubs_1) since the link "was dead". Thanks again! 🙏
I don't use smart water bottles. They will freeze and cannot take boiling hot water. Too big to put into a boot or shoe also. A 16 oz., nalgene is perfect. Will take all the above and it into a boot shoe to dry it out (insert with boiling water inside the bottle.). The rest of my water I carry in bladders. Adios!

@@bugtentoutside5611 what calisthenics do you excerise before bedtime? 🙂
Use a jug sling knot to make a paracord strap for your smart water bottle, wrap camo duck tape around your bottle to make it one layer tougher.
Perfect 👍 Exactly what I’m needing. I just have stepped up to the Exos 58

Goo review, thank you. Don't know how I ended up here, but yes, would buy :D
I suggest marking the Smart Water bottle with volume marks at regular intervals so you know how much you are drinking.

As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing about Smart Water which makes you smarter.!!
Nice job.
I like that pack. Tell us more about it.
I don't have that clip on my backpack tho.
very cool
Can you use the platypus filter too?
Any suggestions for a source to buy replacement "sports caps" for these?
Uh, buy another bottle of SmartWater with the sports cap on it.....
@@earlbright5944 Uh, replacement caps are cheaper and I don't need another bottle...
buy another bottle dawg 🤯
