    _________
    Adjusting the angle of your camera tilt consistently across all of your builds may be more important than you think. The camera tilt directly affects the way you fly and the way you "mix" your right and left hand movements while flying. Your race quads, your freestyle quads and your whoops will probably need different camera tilt but all of your racers should have the same - all of your freestyle quads also - so do the tiny whoops.
    Eye-balling the camera angle to match it between your builds results in approximately the same angle. Using a protractor may be more accurate but still, it is approximate and difficult to do on some frames.
    I have been trying to think of an accurate, consistent and foolproof way of adjusting the camera tilt angle for a while now. It turns out that all I needed was a mirror - and not even a real one!
    Acrylic mirror:
    Same as the one I used: goo.gl/XqhtAs (Banggood)
    Another option that can be assembled as a rectangle: goo.gl/c44da3 (Banggood)
    Triangle shaped: goo.gl/nauDoX (Gearbest)
    Hexagon shaped: goo.gl/qrQCqy (Ebay)
    Square shaped: goo.gl/SKfceF (Ebay)
    Just calibrate your Flight Controller on a flat surface, connect the F/C to your PC, place the mirror vertically on that surface and match the center of the image of your FPV video feed to the reflection of the camera lens on the mirror. The readings you see as "pitch" from the F/C is you camera angle. So simple!
    Some FPV cameras may have a crosshair / center dot in their OSD settings, so you can use that instead of the Betaflight OSD crosshair.
    If your quad does not support OSD and you choose to adjust your camera with the transparent sheet over your monitor, make sure that the image displayed on your monitor is correct and not cropped, for example due to NTSC/PAL settings.
    One last thought: What if FPV cameras had a built-in 1-axis gyro? We could then go into the menu and check the angle of the camera tilt from there.. What do you think?
    This is QUICK GUIDE: The BEST way to adjust FPV camera tilt: how to measure your camera angle accurately - Let's go!
    Note:
    For the mirror "holder", anything with a flat surface, that will stand upright, vertically, on the surface you place it, will do. I used a carton L-shape protector from some packaging I came across and confirmed that it can stand vertically at 90 degrees with a ruler.
    The acrylic mirror came with adhesive pads but I wanted to prevent any distortions on the mirror, so I used double sided tape for uniformity.

    Great video. I’ve added angle to my OSD partially for this reason and curiosity of my angle when going full speed down the straights in DVR review out of curiosity. I prefer to have a 3D mount that is specific to an angle and leave it though. Makes adjustments unnecessary if I always fly 45 degrees.

    how about some stickers to put on the runcam with 30deg, line or 45 or whatever you prefer. parallel to the top plate is easy to get precise.

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  6 років тому

      Yes, that could work on some frames. The stickers will also have to be accurately placed and you will still aligning the line with the top plate by eye though :P

  • @Zentriefugal

    Nice idea but how do you make sure that the Crosshair is in the exact middle of the OSD/Camera?
    I've tried this method yesterday and it seemed to work for two 5″ quads (PAL cameras) but for my thootpick (NTSC camera) it didn't and showed me an angle of ≈40 degrees (should have something around 20).
    Then I noticed, that I can move the crosshair manually and that there is a command line (osd_crosshairs_pos) for it's position.

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  2 роки тому +2

      This probably happens because the receiver is not receiving/displaying an ntsc signal properly or the OSD settings in betaflight are set for PAL but you use NTSC, so you lose a big part of the bottom of the image (the crosshair is in the middle but you are not seeing the whole image).

    oh damn, why didnt i think of using betaflight calibrator, hehehe... i have a good eye for judging it by just looking at it but i think its better for learning if i am ultra precise about it, 25degrees seems like the best for learning i was surprised to see snake only has 30degrees...

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  6 років тому

      Freestyle pilots use a camera angle of 30-35 degrees usually, as far as I know.
      Using Betaflight to monitor the tilt of the flight controller is not enough on its own, since you will still be eye-balling the camera to be level. Using the mirror is what makes this the most accurate it can be :)

  • @TheBigRat770
    @TheBigRat770 4 роки тому +1

    Could someone send me to a video that explains how I can change my fpv camera angle on beta flight? I found the tab and changed it but my camera didn't move when I saved and rebooted it?

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  4 роки тому +1

      You have to physically move the camera yourself and position it differently, depending on how much angle you need. Loosen the screws that hold the FPV camera in place, tilt as much as you need and tighten it in place. The Betaflight setting helps "mix" yaw and roll, I fly at 0 degrees and do the mix with my fingers. Was this an honest question or a troll post? :)

    • @TheBigRat770
      @TheBigRat770 4 роки тому +1

      @@muteFPV no dead honest! I'm so new to the hobby! Thank you very much though! What is the point in beta flight having the option to choose angle?

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  4 роки тому +1

      It is an awesome hobby, prepare yourself for a lot of headaches but incredible fun! :D Setting a camera angle in Betaflight makes it mix your way with roll automatically so when you make turns it helps turn flat. Otherwise you do it by turning with both sticks, yaw and roll. Hold a drone with your hand, tilt it forward so that the camera looks straight forward and think what you need to do in order to turn. If you only input yaw, the higher the camera angle the more crooked your drone will be after your yaw input. Then input a bit of roll and see what happens ;)

  • @jordanbass3210
    @jordanbass3210 6 років тому +3

    Why does it matter to know your exact camera angle? Just curious not a troll question. I fly at 45 degrees that way it's just simple exactly in between vertical and horizontal

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  6 років тому +3

      I find that having a consistent camera angle between your similar quads is very important (not a tiny whoop and a freestyle quad, but for example all tiny whoops should have the same tilt, all freestyle quads should have the same, etc). Knowing the exact camera angle is just a means to this purpose (adjusting the same among all quads).

    • @JohnNorrbin
      @JohnNorrbin 6 років тому +2

      Exactly. You will never be a great flier if you have to adjust each time you go out and fly. Never seen someone change cars every day to become a pro :D

    • @jordanbass3210
      @jordanbass3210 6 років тому

      John Norrbin why would you adjust it every time you fly? I've never moved it since I've installed it just leave it where it is and fly the same angle all the time for freestyle I don't really understand what you're saying or what that has to do with what I was saying

    • @JohnNorrbin
      @JohnNorrbin 6 років тому

      I mean adjust yourself. If the quads are off even by a little bit, you muscle memory will be off. You will doing corrections to compensate for the different angles of the camera on different quads. If you only have one quad then there is no issues, but pro racers have many quads in case one breaks either in a race or just practice.

    • @jordanbass3210
      @jordanbass3210 6 років тому

      John Norrbin that's why I put them in 45° man Jesus did you even read what I wrote or do you feel like just spouting off today? I fly 4 quads they all fly perfectly fine my muscle memory is fine. maybe the problems you're having are not what everyone else has dude you don't even fly real quads fpv I mean how are you going to try to tell me about flying when you don't even fly real quads or have any videos of doing any tricks at all. Sometimes I fly 60° to do Matty stuntz style of flying. I have muscle memory for both. just because you have problems doesn't mean we all do it's quite easy. I give the goggles to my brother and transmitter and he has never even crashed one time the four times he has flown my quads in Acro some of us just get it

    I'm sorry I don't know your name..., How's " The Silent FPV Jedi "? JK, lol, .Anyway, I have a quick question, I have a Tinyhawk S that I had someone else set up and I'm using his old Transmitter. Anyway, I get it back from him and it's a complete dog. Even on 2s, I could run faster than it flys. And I did change the rate and profile to 2. I asked the guy is there anything i can do to get it going faster in Betaflight and he says , "no", and nothing else. No suggestion, no nothing. A week later I am talking to him about some upgrades I want done on another quad.I tell him I'm a little lite on cash and the first thing he says is, "Hey man. I'll take that Tinyhawk S in trade. Well I reminded him that it was a dog and he says, " It's cool, I bet I can get it running. Well I was a little pissed to say the least. Well, anyway. I asked JB and he mentioned Camera uptilt. I have never messed with that setting. What do you think??

    • @muteFPV
      @muteFPV  4 роки тому

      Hello! This sounds so weird, the Tinyhawk S should be fast. What mode are you flying? If you fly horizon mode and the settings allow for a very small tilt angle, yes, it will not fly fast. As for the rest of the settings, let's start with the basic stuff. If you give it full throttle does it climb fast? As long as there is no throttle curve / throttle % limit set up, this will show if the power is there to begin with. Also, how long does it fly? Just to get an idea for the battery condition.

    • @CCC0122

      @@muteFPV, thanks a lot for getting back to me so quick. As far as climb fast I guess it does have a decent punch out but forward it's a sleeper. I can fly it in all 3 modes and it's definitely a little faster in acro but not like it should. I had the Original and it was faster than this thing on 2 s. And I did make sure I was flying rate and profile 1 with 1s and rate 2 profile 2 fir 2s
