  • While flying FPV is great, I find LOS to be just as enjoyable. Due to the high request rate, here is my first tutorial on trying to learn to fly LOS in acro mode, which will open up a whole new world of flying for you.
    I know it may not be the best tutorial, and might not even help at all, but I gave it my best shot and hopefully it works for some of you out there :)
    At the end of the day practice is what it comes down to, but practice with a purpose in mind is always the best option to increase your skill.

    You're completely right in all essence there is no real need for this video. But happy you shared I started flying acro from day 1 it's just like learning how to go from 3-4 channel radio. Try on a sim once or twice get the sticks down and then just practice. I think a lot of people are afraid of crashing or going too fast. start slow and small exactly how you showed in this video. You'll get comfortable and start moving up at your own pace.

      Dear RCAddict, I've seen tutorials mentioning that it is convinient to use air mode in conjunction with acro mode. What is your opinion in relation to this? Do you use this combination??? Regards!!!! Francisco

    That's a LOT better than just trying to hover for 20 batteries like most tutorials tell you to do. Obviously you will learn better control by bringing it to a stop and changing direction, etc. Thanks for this tutorial.

    Well I’m glad you made this video because people like me just getting into racing quads don’t know all about angle mode or any of the other modes in beta flight and I sure don’t so please keep making these teaching videos like this cause there will always be a need for teaching tools like this one. I wish someone will make a video for setting up angle mode on beta flight and then take it outside and then show us what the quad does in angle mode and in acro mode etc, because there is people that needs to learn and we can only do that by being taught by people like you and everyone that does fly now at one time they didn’t know how or what at all. Thank you very much sir.

    You helped me a lot. As an intermediate pilot, your reconfirmed a lot of what I already knew. But as far as having to manually readjust to your previous stick input clicked inside my head and I have a Breyer understanding of acro mode.
    I’m about to step up to a racer and this was a big help.

Keep making videos like this, because i think there's more people like me, that arrived to the hobbie and doesn't have anyone to learn from. So... keep the good work.

    Yepp, definitely have angle mode on a switch ready to go! Saved me from a crash yesterday. I'm just trying to learn pitch and roll control right now so when I couldn't recover from a barrel roll because a gust of wind made me lose orientation I just switched to angle mode and throttled up. I feel like angle mode is a must when learning acro as long as you don't depend on it too heavily.

    This is an excellent tutorial in every way. From a performance standard you spoke very clearly, had good pace, and were concise while still being very informative. As far as your teaching methodology, it is really fantastic. I have recently been learning acro with tiny whoops and small brushless quads, and this video would have made a huge difference in how fast I could have understood what was going on with them in flight in the 3 modes. I am subscribing and really looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks for the lesson and the thought you put into it!

    I bought four different 20$ to $40 quads that did flips, 2 speed etc. and flew them in my house for about 6 months. Totally crashed and beat the crap out of them at first but I got the idea. I just got back from throwing $200 up in the air for the first time. MAN! What a blast!! Crashed it 3 times but at least I knew to kill it instead of freezing up. What I can say is, the tall soft grass saved my quad and all that practice paid off. Super Fun! and damn scary a few times haha.

    There is a significant need for this video. Watch a brand new quad flyer fly in acro LOS. 5 second maximum flight time. Than they dont want to fly again.
    EXCELLENT video very detailed. Previous commentor said about a sim and thats a very good idea! And I would like to see a video about setting slow rates, if I have not missed it already.
    Best Acro LOS videos I have seen. I smash up my quad over two weeks flying in a warehouse for 10 batteries after work every evening. to get competent in acro. If you dont know orientation or are brand new use horizon till you like your flying. Then switch to acro and learn that you have to pull back below centre on pitch to turm without nose diving into the floor.

    I know it's a matter of practice, but in FPV acro is totally natural to me. Time on a sim helped. But aircraft (real ones), are just rate mode. You roll into a bank at a rate determined by the stick pressure, neutralize when you're where you want, and then roll it back to straight and level (or where ever). Self leveling would horrify me. But the first thing a flight instructor shows a student is an airplane's natural stability. The absence of that in a quad, and the orientation difficulties blows my mind. "Soft ground" is a great tip. LOL I think this video does need to be made because it gives a nice methodical approach to channel your practice time. Which I need to bite the bullet and get experience. LOS YOU ARE A WIZARD. Your high performance quad videos are completely amazing. Flying a little spec. Great!

      @@jodroboxes Yeah if your video ever just dies ur screwed... I feel the same way.... Although I can't afford FPV goggles anyway an have yet to even try FPV mode xD
      But the shit you can do LOS freestyle is FAR better and more awesome to see than FPV freestyle. In fact FPV should stick with races and cool building dives... freestyle FPV is more geared toward the pilot and less for the audience IMO.
      Some shit is really cool like diving through small gaps and some other things.... but compared to freestyle in LOS, FPV can't even hold a candle to the awesomeness.

      I agree. Alot of people who have been or even some beginners who are flying drones, make it look easy. Drones are very unique because unlike any other RC software and firmware are in the mix. If you adjust a setting wrong, you could mess things up real bad. Beta flight can be alot to take in. I myself just got into drones so quite the learning curve. Bought a Mobula6 to practice with. 😁

  • @leriosatevis
    @leriosatevis 5 років тому

    Very good explanation and demonstration.
    For all of you who want to learn acro mode,it's much better to start with a simulator first,for two main reasons really.
    1. Even though the drone is a toy,it's extremely dangerous,the slightest disorientation can turn into a really bad situation,if you lose control,the drone can turn into a weapon.The props spinning at such a great speed can cause severe damage,I'm not going to go into details ,but you can imagine what it can do to your face or other parts of your body and of course it can be danger to others as well.
    2. It could be very expensive to start the "real thing" right away.If you just go straight for the real drone,prepare for a very disappointing experience.If you keep crashing the drone,it will not take too many crashes before the need for reparation.
    I know that what I wrote "sounds" terrible,but it's the honest truth and it's for your own good as well as others'.

I feel as though i have 3 thumbs and 7 fingers on each hand. I know one things for sure had i have gone straight into the field i would be into this race quad thing for about 20 grand by now , LMFAO. One Day it will all click and i am without doubt making some improvevment but slow . :)

    • @MrRoekels
      @MrRoekels 7 років тому +3

      Yeah freerider is a great sim, for me its great for doing some more aggressive line of sight practicing in acro. FPV has come much easier once LOS is there. Keep pushing!

      @fpvrc9829 6 років тому

      another way to think of it, is using a map to write directions, you have to imaging your going the road, turning left and right.

    I definetly recommand all fpv acro beginners to learn on a pc simulator with your usb radio like "FPV Freerider". really save you many crashes and YES you will learn and take it all in real life. just take it slow in real life after some hours in the simulator.

FPV Freerider is a pretty good one for learning: Acro and high rates on is nice to give you an idea what you are going to fly (Real quad is actually much faster but you definetly cant fly acro for the first time without destroying it) and the simulator is a must have for the people who have never flown acro and are about to build a race quad for the first time to have some fun doing nice fast moves and recording videos, its really better to try in the simulator first so they can learn the basics before they go out and crash after 3 seconds with so much power.

      I loved the simulator when I was brand new for sure, because I cant afford to buy a bunch of mini quads and other at first, just have enough to get what I need to fly right, so I used sims a lot in place of starter quads.

      Not so sure about LOS sims. Haven't tried in a while, but I can't fly LOS on any of them...I wouldn't say it is good to practice on, but to just understand what the sticks do first yeah.

    Nice video. Helps a lot. I'm new to quads from cars and boats and didn't realise that if you nudge the stick the position doesn't return when then the stock springs back. NOW I KNOW why when I hover it's been a constant battle. Thanks

    Great video 👌. I have a Dromida Ominous,before I clicked on the video I wondered if it would be good for acro training lol. I'd love to see you use the Ominous in a training video to see what it can do in your hands. Looking forward to part 2. Thx Dod.

      Yeah, a toy quad like that which offers arco mode would be great to learn on, especially with the awesome orientation of it. My Ominus is pretty much broken though :/

    Great f@!kin video brother!!! Thank you for explaining these things to us beginner/intermediate pilots. Every other channel speaks in acronyms and uses words that noobs cannot comprehend. I had to look up all the words I heard them say. Vtx, Stack, Transmitter, ESC, Flight Controller etc. There needs to be more video like yours to help others get into this amazing hobby. If people cannot understand with some sort of ease, they will get bored or frustrated and move on to something else. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. More videos like this would help grow our hobby. Which is a good thing.
    Liked and subbed!!!!!

      Gotta learn the basics, all new things involve some theory and anything that flies will have at least some of that, try talking to someone not "in the know" about mAh, voltage spikes, C ratings and Kv relating to cell count lol!
      Won`t have a fekkin clue my friend :D
      Good thing we have guides for everything nowadays, (make myself sound old here) when I got into RC there wasn`t even an internet, had to get magazines and talk to other pilots :o
      (yes, I recently hit 40, it`s terrible and I don`t recommend it)

    Well, what can I say apart from the fact that this video hugely enhanced my understanding of the flight modes; Angle, Horizon and Acro. And, as a newbie, this video has help me as I have just received the Eachine QX 90 (Flysky)
    I'm now battling with and trying to master and understand PIDS along with my settings for setting the flight mode (3)switch setting in betaflight oh, and PIDS for the little beast.
    Love ya work chap - keep it up. (SUBSCRIBED)

    • @TheRCAddict
      @TheRCAddict  7 років тому

      Trying to learn PIDs by tuning something that small and "weak" is a bad place to start, as very little can be done to improve them.

    • @ozmosyd
      @ozmosyd 7 років тому

      Hmm ... I beg to differ. I have played with the F3 board pids and can see drastic changes? It seems the little beast is equally capable of PID adjustments that can make improvements. It's not just the big quads??? Can you explain as I am now very confused as you say that changing PIDS for these little boys in betaflight has no result on the QX 90 with F3 or smaller quads.
      But ... I am a newbie ... x ; o )

    • @TheRCAddict
      @TheRCAddict  7 років тому +1

      Well I mean you can get them to fly better sure, but getting them to the level of a 5inch quad, with no propwash probably isn't going to happen haha.

      Dave Pierce im trying hard lol i dont use sims dont have a pc capable enough 4 it but im stuck in horizon mode really trying to break into full acro but cant seem to catch it lol moderatly high winds n flying brushless micros is fairly hard tho my rodeo struggles ... ive only been a piolot since january but this is soo addicting los or fpv

      Hi Raw ... both actually. I just couldn't afford FPV for quite a while so I was into LOS for most of this time. I now have my Fat Sharks and love FPV. Unfortunately, when you get to my age, learning comes a little harder and this changing in mid-stream has been a B##$&*. But I'm determined.
