I would like to see you ride some of your favorite trails when the trees start changing color. I love listening to your ramblings, pearls of wisdom pop out whether you planned to say them or not. Just for the record, I would go for a ride. Football can be recorded and watched later. Just be sure you don't look at the scores by accident. Keep on pedaling!

Hi Kelly. Unfortunately because of the lack of rain, we really had no color season this year. And it's been weird but in the past I've wanted to do a video about the colors but while the trees on the roads and elsewhere looked great, for some reason along the trail they don't change much. They just eventually turn brown and drop off the trees. But as us Cub fans say, "Maybe next year!"
And thanks for the "pearls of wisdom" comment. I'm not too sure about how much wisdom I've spoken, but I appreciate the comment.
And yes regarding football. You also have to avoid text messages from people saying things like, I can't believe they won.Or if you're a Bears fan, lost.

    G'day David.....
I haven't words to encapsulate your impact with your shared rides , your philosophy, and how fantastically you're coping with your health challenges. Your inspiration is inexpressible ! Thanks , David.
So, to prescribe a addition.... ... a tree is always unique. !.....One doesn't " change " it... it can be admired as it is, how it is.
So , with your videos..... Just share your rides and spontaneously rambles.... no change required ! I love them.
As for your health insurance in the USA...... I can just say how our health support in Australia seems to be a few notches up from the general experiences that I've read about in the USA. Still, there are recurrent attempted ' conservative ' dilutions even here. Such a discussion will take us down a rabbit hole that would amaze even Alice. I desist.
So.... back to triking. After incessent rain, I finally got out on my trail along the lake edge..... so good. Apart from every designer dog owner littering the track with their presence of tangled leads and singularly unresponsive companions. But still good to soak in the passing jungled foliage and lake view. I must send you some photos of ' my track ' , sometime.
Your infectious sparkle is backdropped with your wonderful trail.... and your ' rambles ' from your spirit are beyond camparison......
So....... just keep on doing what your doing, David. From many comments preceding this, it is quite evident that therein is the golden core of your presentations.
    Thank you, David.
    ........ Ray.... in Oz.

      G'day Ray!
      How are you my friend?
Thank you for the plethora of compliments but if you continue like that you're going to turn my head.
You are right. The healthcare system here in the US needs a lot of fixing and unfortunately, myself even with the help of the others here aren't going to fix it. so let's stick to triking.
I'm glad to hear you finally got out. That first ride after being cooped up always feels great. And I'd love to see some pictures of where you ride!

      G'day again, David....
I'll snap a few photos when the weather clears up.... a bit stormy on the mid east coast of Oz right now..... and more ahead..... and I'll attach them to an email to you, down the track.
And you keep superlatively firing as you ' best ' your current challenges . You ARE going so well, David..... There are many pushing at your back....... mind you, your cadence is wishful over my way. :))
      Thanks for your reply.
..... catchya down the tracks ..... Ray.

David, I'm the worst person for a brain to pick for trike topics. I'm amazed that any trike video makers come up with so many ideas. Your videos are always really great, so in my opinion, if you just talk about your life and all that's happened to you, and just keep telling us how much you love riding, that'll be fine with me. Hoping your health continues to be as good as it can be. You inspire so many of us. Thanks for all you've done here on YT. Oh, by the way, a fan at Soldier Field held up a bedsheet sign years ago that said it perfectly: "Chicago, home of more dog teams than the Yukon".

lol, I like the bedsheet phrase! And thanks for the support but I have to admit, I feel self-conscious just talking about myself. I'm curious, has the doctor or physical therapist talked to you about recumbent vs. DF bike riding? It seems I've heard that riding a recumbent is encourage whereas riding a traditional bike is not. Do you know if this is correct? And is there a "break in" period for the new knees? I'm guessing you can't go out and ride 40 miles on the first day. How long does it take for them to get to the point where you can "just ride?"

I actually didn't go for a ride yesterday but went to a Renn Faire to meet up with some friends I haven't seen in a year +. I tired out my puppy there yesterday with all the walking and talking. Jack is 16 months old now and about 18lbs... There were a lot of dogs there yesterday and Jack did great, didn't bark back at the 2 yappy dogs that were barking at him. He played with a same aged pup who was 80 pounds heavier then him and wasn't scared. Was a good day...now I am getting ready to go for a ride. Be Strong!

Hi Deryk. I hope you enjoyed your ride. It's great to get your pup completely tired out like that isn't it? Mine is coming up on 14 months but still very much a puppy. She loves to play and is pretty submissive so she gets along with just about all dogs. She's not submissive to the point where she's afraid. More like when she meets a new dog and the other dog is unsure because mine is so excited and active, mine just rolls over on her back with her belly up and looks at the other dog with an "okay, happy now?" look on her face and then all is good.

Lastly, insurance companies care about ONE thing.....their profits. It is sad that the doctor agrees the 2 treatments but the insurance won't pay for 2 at the same time, even if it means it will work. I have the same issues with my diabetic supplies and have to jump thru hoops everytime my doc wants to change something, and that is nowhere near as urgent as the treatments you are going thru. All I can say is I hope it all works out. Sounds like you have a good team of docs in your corner and you are a fighter!

Hi Alan and thanks for the compliments. Sadly, you are correct on your third point. It's really ridiculous that they (the insurance companies) can get away with what they do. Yet, here we are. My current chemo has me taking 5 pills, twice a day for a week and then a week off. Then repeat. I am supposed to take an anti-nausea med with each does so that would be 28 pills a month. Insurance will only pay for 18. It's really crazy. Fortunately my doc prescribes a different med that they would pay for and it seems to work so that was fairly easily remedied. But as you well know, dealing with the insurance company becomes a full time job and it shouldn't be that way.

And I'm not running out of things to talk about, I was just looking to see if there was a topic that many of you wanted to see and I just hadn't thought of yet. It doesn't appear that there is. My son went to Mizzou from 2007 - 2011 when they had a pretty good rivalry with TX. Then everyone started jumping conferences because like with the insurance companies, it's all about the money.

David, I watch all of your videos regardless of the topic. Maybe a video series on snacks and drinks you take on rides. If you cook, you could stop at a park and prepare a simple snack.
We get limited sunshine this time of year and football can be recorded and watched later. It was sunny this weekend, we didn’t get a chance to ride but we got to tour a bunch of remodeled homes around our area (too far for us to ride between).

Wasting an entire afternoon of gorgeous weather to watch a game inside is not a choice for me. I am a New Englander and obviously a Patriots fan big time but there is no way I give up a gorgeous Sunday. When they started disrespecting the national anthem and kneeling in pro sports I just stopped watching. It was 75/sunny here today. I went out and rode 35 miles this afternoon. Btw…as a retired doctor,I sympathize with the insurance hassles you had. I retired 15 years ago as I just couldn’t deal with insurance companies dictating treatment then having to explain the craziness to patients. I just walked away. Stay healthy and keep posting. Hi Mark. Yeah sitting in on a gorgeous Sunday to watch football is hard to do. I actually stopped watching football a few years ago because it was just getting too violent. I'm a guy who grew up with Dick Butkus and I alway loved football, but now the players are so strong and so fast and so big that you literally could not watch a game where someone didn't get seriously injured. I got to the point where I just said, this is not even a sport anymore. It's just carnage. So I gave it up for a while but I'm kinda back now. I'll watch every now and then.
And yep, the insurance companies torment both the patients and the healthcare providers. It's so damned frustrating.

First, I've felt the following regarding health insurance companies since the mid-1970s: No insurance company should ever trump the decision of any physician. All treatments available should be allowed.
I am very anti-football. A ride will always take precedents over anything on TV, especially commercial sports at any level.
You've talked about how it can be difficult to get out the door and take a ride. Have you ever just had a "crappy" ride?
I injured my knee about a month ago. My orthopedic specialist said it would be beneficial to ride.
I wanted to get out and ride. But, after 6 miles, my heart wasn't in it. My knee felt fine, but I just lost interest. I kicked myself afterwards for three days and did take the trike out again. But, for some reason, that initial ride was a downer.

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  Рік тому

Hi Al, you'd think that would be the rule when it comes to insurance but sadly, it is not and it's only getting worse.
Regarding football, I always enjoyed it until about 20 years ago. The players have become so big and strong and fast which has made it really dangerous. It's very unusual these days to watch a game where at least one player isn't seriously injured.
As for a crappy ride, I really don't think I can say I've had one. I've had rides that weren't spectacular, but I honestly think that each time I've gone out on my trike I've come home feeling better than when I left.

Hi David. Good video as usual. I hope your new chemo treatment does the trick! I would always chose doing something outside on a good day vs anything on TV. Just tape it! That being said my spouse watches a lot of sports but he’ll go out with me as long as he catches the end of the game and tapes it.
Your videos are terrific. I love seeing the trail on video since I can’t get up that far north on my own. Two things as a newer trike owner I’d love to hear about is tires. I have what came with my trike and worried about how they are going to hold up on the various surfaces on the trail. Pavement, dirt , crushed limestone and my absolute favorite…gravel. Why do they use that anyway?. The other thing I’ve been thinking about is trike maintenance. I do check my tire pressure weekly but what about suspension pumps, and all this dust generated by the trail. What should be maintained weekly, monthly etc.
Also pics or montage of. The animals you have encountered on the trail? Or have y our ever brought Althea?

Hi Colleen. Didn't you get a rack or something so you could transport your trike?
I don't really like doing an "informational" video unless I am really knowledgeable on the topic. That holds true for both tires and maintenance. I know I really like my tires, Schwalbe Marathons because they're really good on the trail (regardless of surface) and very puncture resistant. But that's about the extent of my knowledge. Regarding maintenance, again I know a few things and I did put out a spring tune-up video in (I think) 2021. But I don't know enough about suspension inflation or other topics so I stay away from them. And I know people who LOVE gravel! As a matter of fact, over the past maybe 10 years gravel bikes have become very popular. Like you, I'm not too sure what the appeal is.

I remember you said months ago, or maybe last year, after you got the new trike, that you were going to get a Grateful Dead flag for it, so now you finally have it mounted. I like seeing the photo of your trike when you show the flag ... I'd like to see more about your trike someday, perhaps a walk-around explaining things about it (not a review, just a sharing of your setup, nothing technical). I am noticing in the photo that your rear rack attaches to the rear swing arm, so your panniers ride up and down with the suspended wheel structure. I had not given this any thought before, but it struck me this time because of the difference with my trike, on which the rear rack is attached to the main frame and trike rather than the suspension. I find it interesting how different manufacturers design their rigs. BTW, I would not be at all surprised if a trail user saw that old Grateful Dead flag, dead along the road, and snatched it up for their own enjoyment. I'm happy to hear that your med treatments are going fairly well, and hope you and the doc nail the ideal countermeasure to terminate your troubles! Regarding knowing ahead of time how well a video will be received, yep, that is also my experience: Some that I think are so-so end up with high numbers, while just the opposite is also true. For me, it doesn't really matter at all because I just do this stuff because it brings me pleasure and joy to share things with others who share my passion. Football? I enjoy it sometimes, but it would never override anything else. I've never been a traditional team sports oriented guy. If I'm home and there is nothing else of value, I'll watch a game if one comes on. Okay, speaking about rambling, that's precisely what I'm doing here, so time to sign out old buddy! See ya' ...

      Hi Steve,
I'm happy to have a new flag. I missed riding along the trail and have someone yell, "Great flag!" or "wave those colors!" And yeah, I think someone must've snatched it. I hate thinking someone would do something like that but I shouldn't be surprised.
That's not a bad idea about doing a "walk around" as opposed to a formal review. I will ponder that.
I don't have rear suspension. VERY long story but something was lost in translation between my dealer and ICE and the rear suspension got bumped from the order. Initially I was quite bummed but the truth is, riding on m trail I don't really need it that much, although it would have been nice.
And I have mixed feeling about football. I do like the sport, but these guys are so big and so fast and so strong that it's become a bloodsport. You literally cannot watch a game where someone doesn't get seriously hurt so that makes it hard for me to watch. It's kind of like professional wrestling except it isn't fake.
