    Hi David, My wife and I are 75 and 78 years old and most of our rides are in the 8 to 12 mile range, but we really enjoy them. Just being able to still get out and go any distance is a blessing to us. Keep on riding and encouraging us to do the same. God bless you!

      Exactly! However far we ride is always better than not getting out and moving. And thank you!

    I just like getting out on the trail and enjoying my self . Don’t really care about the miles I go. I love stopping for lunch along the salmon river. Carry a fishing rod all the Time. I catch and release. When it’s really warm might even go for a dip. Both my trikes have electric assist. I’m building another one too. It’s about getting out there and moving around. At our age if you stop it’s all over. I’m 78, a cancer survivor so far. It been a battle for going on 15 years. I’m still here just allot slower. You inspire me to push myself. Thanks David , keep on truckin

    Getting the joy out of the simple things in life without “keeping score” of how fast and how far. I spent 90 minutes riding at a modest pace with 9 year old grandson today talking history, nature etc. when finished he asked me how far we went. I told him 15 miles and he was amazed. Incredibly beautiful/valuable memory created. Rewarded with a big ice cream sundae. Stay well and keep riding and enjoy every day.

    Agree, did all that hot dogging when I was younger, now, it’s just out to ride, take time to take in the scenery around you, what I missed when I was sipping down the trail. And yes, I put an e-hub on my bike, so now, I still do most of the work, just use the hub to give me a breather and still keep moving.

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  Рік тому +1

      Hot dogging, that's a perfect term for it! And yep, as long as we're still moving and enjoying life, that's what matters.

    I always love your vertical up shots, with all the trees on all sides as you move along!
    I think there are still a considerable number of cyclists, both bikers and trikers, who see distance and speed as some kind of badge of ability, as if to prove to others some fact that a certain "long" distance was ridden, or a certain "high" speed was achieved. I must admit that I have fallen into that category of riders myself at times, most notably earlier on in my cycling days, as I wanted to show others that I could do this or that, perhaps something that average riders could not achieve. I believe that is the dynamic you were describing David, or perhaps slightly different where you have set an arbitrary goal in your headl for each ride, maybe for your own personal satisfaction, or to prove to yourself you still have "it" in you. This type of thinking is intertwined into the human nature for many of us. Age seems to slowly silence this ego-driven urge.
    But, like you, those things have begun to fade as I move on in years, and yes, the enjoyment factor, regardless of how far I travel each ride, or the top speed I reach on a ride, is the primary directive in my head now. I have never had a speedometer of any kind on my trikes, or an odometer of any kind, so I never have really known with precision how far or how fast I have gone. On overland journeys, I keep a mental count in my mind each day based on milepost markers on the highways, but speed is always a guess. Nowadays, I am not concerned with how far or fast I ride, but rather that I can STILL ride at an age when many of my family members and friends have passed on. I just want to enjoy the freedom of human power as I travel the same roads where others are leaving toxic air pollution in their wakes. Instead of petroleum distillates, my only exhaust is from rice and beans, and destroys no one else's air supply (fast or slow, far or near).
    Here's to all us "old" men who are now happy with just being alive each day regardless of what we do on our trikes! 😄
    steve

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  Рік тому +1

      He Steve. I love looking up at the trees and the sky when I ride. Given my lack of peripheral vision, that can be dangerous, lol. However I am careful to pick areas when I can see I have at least a few seconds when nobody's coming toward me.
      As someone else commented here, my hotdogging days are over. I thought that really summed it all up. We had our time to show how strong and/or macho we were, and now some wisdom has seeped in and we see what's truly important.
      And Let me second that final proclamation!

      @@EZSteve Hi Steve. Yeah, there are a few of us out here on the trial but not a lot. The funny thing is that most of us know each other and when we see one another, we typically stop. But that rider was cruising along! In one of my videos from earlier this summer, I was stationary because I left my mic at home and the audio is lousy from the internal mic if I'm riding. Anyway, in that video shortly after I start talking a couple who ride trikes around here pulled up to say hello. It was kind of cool to have a couple more trikers come into frame as I was talking.

    Hi David. My wife and I now have our trikes (very similar to yours) and are really enjoying them. Some time ago I would have totally been interested in speed and distance and now not so much. One thing I’ve noticed is, by not worrying about speed, how much more we see along our way. It makes me wonder what I missed before. I wonder if that isn’t a lesson for many other things in life.
    Keep enjoying that coffee time!!!

      Hi Bill. So happy to hear that the two of you are enjoying your trikes. I think most of us here fall into the category you're describing. As someone else here said, "My hotdogging days are over." I think that sums up a lot of us. When we were younger we rode fast, we took chances and did a lot of things we wouldn't do now. And whatever we missed in those days, hopefully we're seeing it now.

Always with electric support and an average speed between 15 and 18 km/h. But, at the end of each ride in summer Icecream ist a must have. By the way my cancer ist back, chemo rulez my life again.
