My wife and I are closing on our first house in NC today. We made the hard decision to leave Utah and my extended family behind in order to better our lives.
Utah is very attractive on the surface somewhat like how California grabs one's eye to be compelled to an American dream that no longer exists. If you like hiking, fishing, and a lower cost of living with a chiller vibe, you'll prefer most other states and probably avoid the Western states altogether. If I were buying, I'd have a serious look at Kansas and Missouri. I was hoping to get a VA home loan, but even for that a disable low income veterans can't qualify like traditionally was the case. I was ignored two years ago on my application hoping to find a final place to live out the rest of my days.
can you share more? we are looking in WV, lifetime Utahns, ex-LDS here, non toxic (you dont leave toxic to go to another toxic think - just silly), no longer wanting to raise our kids where they are not fully accepted here because they aint mormon. Its not all, but the majority, and its sad. Friendship for agenda rather than for friendship.
@@mrplur It's great out here! reallly green like Seattle, but without all the gloomy days. depends on if you work remotely or not, because if you have to live anywhere near Raleigh for work, you'll be spending something comparable to Cache Valley prices. the beaches are beautiful with very warm water. tons of lakes and rivers if you fish. the smoky mountains are incredible! just have to get used to the humitidy
More people moving in than moving out = Net in migration. Yes, we're seeing more people move in than move out, but we still had 18k people move away and this video is explaining why
Exactly. Too many people are coming for a place that traditionally only supported 50,000 people. It's not a great place to make new friends and the cost of living is a bit too high so I find there's little fun and lifestyle. While executives come for the finer qualities of life that are dependent on lots of spending money, I'd venture that most people are stressed, working too much, and socially isolated finding that earning a little spending money can get you a fleeting moment in the great outdoors, but doesn't fulfill. Despite being sold as this really wonderful outdoor activities place, it's a workaholic state that lives by the motto of Industry. The metro area has serious air and water quality issues going on with dangerous red light running speeders failing to yield to pedestrians in crossings a constant every day condition even on Saturdays and Sundays. Landlords tend to be very poor managers and the work culture not so great for employers and executives lack solid values and principals. Utah probably was beautiful and clean with a sense of community in a century past, but isn't a good place if you like fishing, camping, and a more chill vibe and sense of community. I tried to chat up a man looking at fishing gear one day hoping to find a fishing buddy and he said he collects fishing gear as a hobby, but doesn't go fishing for someone would kill him. I'm like, carry a gun when going out to the rural. He said, they'll kill you.
Agreed.... we all have very unique and individual perspectives but at the same time I see so much fear in the comments that are exacerbated by inflation that had weakened the dollar of every single American.
@@scottdsteele Yes, there is much cognitive dissonance present in our society for each individual has a very unique perspective where some people feel everything is wonderful and others feel it's all wrong. I guess some have access to good paying jobs and housing and others don't. Some have Cybertrucks and some can never have a regular car. Regardless of perspective, it takes an increasing ton of money to live and be able to enjoy life. I haven't taken a car trip or anything in 3 years and feel so couped up with cabin fever. I had to sell my car 2 years ago and then my income is worth only about half of that 2 or 3 years ago. Most of the job listings are fake for PR reasons and I just can't get a job. I'm in my 50's, have a bachelors degree, no criminal background, and just need a part time job I can do that's no constantly on my feet like in Smiths or Walmart. I'm a disabled veteran living on $1360 a month and have sought resources through VA and the state, but no results. Got approved for Voc Rehab, but it's not funded. It's deeply disappointing.
Developers have destroyed SLC, and 2/3’s of Utah County. The remaining 1/3 is now in the process of destruction. St George is toast, everything will eventually go as well. Too old to move, if I were 40 I would move out.
@@scottdsteele Roads and traffic are incredibly bad, I lived in LA, SD, and Sacramento, SLC and Utah County fit right in. The Wasatch Front is not capable of supporting this explosion of people. I 15 and I 80 are about it, I 215 is a dysfunctional semi circle, some very nice other parts a road repair nightmare. Try to get to Saratoga Springs during the rush hours. Lehi and AF is a developing cancer growth. Orem and Provo have over 70,000 students with their cars when school is in session, try and go to a restaurant, just not happening. Dare you to try and commute on University Parkway or University Avenue. When it snows, people still try to go 70 on the interstate. My home has gone from 190k to 540k in the past 12 years. Firework nightmares twice in July. I could go on, how about taxes skyrocketing, gas taxes have wiped out gas prices. Need more?
Got it. The traffic here has certainly worsened over the last decade but it is still not even remotely comparable to LA. I understand that one's personal experience heavily weighs upon their outlook and I understand that northern Utah County is the worst right now but there are projects in the works right now that will make northern Utah County function great... it's just going to take some years to get there. They are building freeways in Salt Lake County (Bangerter conversion & Mountain View corridor) with the latter extending down through Saratoga Springs and branching out to Eagle Mountain and connecting to I-15. You can visit the UDOT website if you're interested. I understand that it's this area that's the worst now, due to the incredible growth and as someone who drives 35,000 - 40,000 miles per year, I know the handful of choke points to avoid at certain times of the day.
I can understand the appeal, I’ve been here in Utah my whole life! I love it and I’m glad that I get to raise my family here - but man, it feels like too many people have been coming in this last couple of years especially. I understand that the population is naturally going to grow, but it seems like there are more apartment buildings being built instead of houses lately and I hate it.
Part of this is due to the fact that the younger generations can't afford to buy a home anymore. Cost of living has skyrocketed while wages have meagerly increased. The cost of living ratio compared to the past generations is staggering. People still want to leave their parents place, but can no longer afford a home, the younger generation is moving into apartments. Which may not seem that bad at first, it's been that way for every generation, however, it's never been this prevalent and in this large of number before.
@@DaisukeFlamedramon oh for sure! I’m 32 y/o working as a mobile mechanic and I still can’t buy a home! I rent a 2 bedroom house for $1600 a month it’s crazy!
I'll say I moved away because because I was searching for a job for 3 months in my last semester of college, and didn't get any call backs. After I received my undergrad in operations and Supply Chain, I searched 3 more months. I had one interview which fell through. I was searching and applying for a job full time and still nothing. After that, I started looking out of state and had a lot more success
As someone who was born and raised in what USED to be rural southern Utah county Utah, it literally makes me SICK what's happened to this state! We've replaced safe, quiet, CHEAP communities where people actually knew each other and traffic jams were a foreign concept. Now it's becoming an urban sprawl hell scape with ZERO planning for the future or quality of life all while everything gets so expensive that no one can afford a home. I'm considering moving away from the land my ancestors founded because I'm being priced out and honestly the quality of life is going to hell with all these people moving in. With those people moving in comes shitty, poorly made apartment buildings and condos instead of homes in neighborhoods. Trying to bring down housing costs with shitty apartments has never worked and will never work. Also with below replacement birth rates there's literally no reason to build more. Anyways I think Utah basically sucks now. Quit moving here!!!!!!!!!!
Can I ask how they are destroying our state? Also, that phrase, our state, is obviously coming from a place of pride in Utah which I share. Would you leave a terribly run state is that we're the place you were from? Would you feel like it's others right to tell you to keep out and to leave? That doesn't sound American at all to me
@scottdsteele free speech is fully American. I'm not keeping anyone out. Just requesting that they keep their politics out. They moved here for a reason. Don't bring the same beliefs here that ruined your state.
We are moving away from Utah here. Our kids aren't going to be able to afford to live here. It's becoming the next California. As far as cost, but our minimum wage is $7.25
I’m a trucker and been driving in and out of Utah since 2010. Utah is growing more and more. I don’t see anyone leaving except a few people getting job offers.
@@scottdsteele That’s possible but i’d say twice more moved in than moved out. But it’s just from my personal observation with a bunch new developments, apartments, houses etc. i’d like to know the actual numbers of the consensus.
We are moving away from Utah in October for my work. But even if we didn't move for work, we would probably move away anyway. It's getting too expensive to live here. There are too many people as well. It's just too crowded.
I know if I were lose my apartment for any reason, it's game over on living in Utah. I feel after 10 years it wasn't worth it for I did put my best foot forward in a work culture that leaves much to be desired where one needs to be from Utah and have family here to be well connected enjoying a secure stable lifestyle and enough income to enjoy life too. The state is beautiful, but has work culture and environmental issues to do with air and water quality issues resulting toxic dangerous industries. I regret I didn't secure a house in a Midwest state like Missouri 20 years ago, but couldn't have imagine the future would turn out as bad as it has and set to become as the future arrives. It's tough all over the country today with housing so lots of people are homeless and endangered, especially if not a car or RV to live in for you need that motor heat in the Winter. You'll find better and more accessible housing in places like Kansas, but wages are even lower and the historic inflation is present everywhere in North America where unlike the old days, finding a place to live and job isn't easy as picking up a newspaper and telephone with a few hundred dollars cash on hand.
I would live in WY if the winters weren’t so tough. My brother has lived there in different parts of the state, so I’ve seen and heard how long and tough they can be.
If you want night life its almost non existant. Mostly the old people will say theres tons of hiking and other daytime crap, but once the sun goes down stores close.
I am a black senior citizen planning to retire to Utah in 1-2 years and definitely not for the politics or "family values" though moving to be near family (what an oxymoron). As a person of color, I've met some nice people and some not so nice. "The South" starts at the border of the U.S. and Canada⬇.
To those outside the state Utah's perception of a clean, cheap, friendly, spacious state, low crime state is long outdated by about 20-30yrs. SLC is dirty, overcrowded, people are rude, high crime, housing is going to make you cry, and traffic will make regret ever thinking of coming here. I'm sure if you took a survey a great number of people feel trapped by their home. Unless you're moving out of state you're stuck.
Your perception and opinion of Salt Lake is not what people see when coming from other cities. In fact it's the exact opposite with respect to every point you've made with the exception of the high housing costs. SLC is remarkably clean compared to most every other city, traffic is far better, it's less crowded, etc.
@@scottdsteele I can tell you what my family thought of Utah was like is nothing what it turned out to be once we arrived. It is far from the utopia people hype it up to be. The air is some of the worst in the world on some days. In ward alone there are many people wanting out of SLC because of crime, traffic the homeless, trash but are stuck in mortgage situations if they sell where are going to go and buy a home and not pay crazy prices. SLC has major problems coming with water, sewer, elec, roads etc and they do not working solutions. You cannot keep putting bodies in a box with no expansion of services and think things are fine. SLC is not a wonderful place period.
Ok, and that's your opinion and I completely understand. The perspective of visiting and living in all of the other cities from Phoenix, Denver, anywhere in California, Houston, Dallas, Austin, or most every other city is helpful to gain a perspective from 30,000 above the small bubble in which we all live
I don't understand this statement whatsoever. LA County alone has 75,000 homeless people, and California as a whole has over 180,000. Salt Lake County has less than 3,000 and the state of Utah as a whole has less than 5,000 with less than 10,000 having experienced homelessness at any point. The homelessness rate per 10,000 residents here in Utah is 10, in California it's 46... California is nearly 5x worse. I understand that some people are just incredibly negative but come on.... look at the facts
People in some areas of Utah seem to be living more extravagant and liking expensive toys more than they used to. Its not how the state used to be. They seem to be liking money too much now here. I think people want to find something different now to get away from this.
Utah is thriving. Many people are leveraging their now increased home values to take on more debt to live a heightened lifestyle, and many people are simply earning alot more money especially if they own businesses that are thriving or have higher level positions within a company that is doing and paying well
The thing about demand outweighing the costs, which will not be solved by lawmakers so please stop advocating for that unless you're going to push for them to reduce requirements for journeyman licenses, is that there are greedy developers who want the labor to be so cheap that those who build the homes can't afford them and once they have much experience they often leave new construction jobs cause they can't get high enough in pay to justify it. My husband is an experienced plumber, in both new construction & service, and i still have have to work full time for us to be ok. But we can only afford to rent, not buy. If house prices don't go down by quite a lot, we will be moving out of the state where his income will go further.
Thanks for sharing! I totally understand and the only way to "make it" as a plumber and to earn the money needed to thrive and provide in a single income home is to build and scale a plumbing business and this can be said for any trade. Where the lawmakers do come in is to really create an environment and an incentive for builders to build far more and far more starter homes. This won't happen unless the developers have a reason to and right now, they just don't
I work in a lot of the bars and restaurants in downtown salt lake, and in the past 4 years my clientele hasn't lived here longer than 6 months to 2 years, it's almost more common for that now..
You're correct! Fallout from testing from 1951-1962 absolutely affected St George resulting in radioactivity with levels 100-1000 times greater than the national average
The only thing making me think about moving is the fact that I miss rain and am lonely here. I love Utah so much but for the past 30 years I feel like a ghost among people. The politics is one of the things making me stay. I can walk to the gas station at 2 AM with little to worry about and I love that. I just wish I fit in better.
People who moved to Utah and had families and or loved the outdoors stuck around more than people who didn't. For most people the culture shock was too much. But yes now it is much more crowded and expensive, but a lot of places are
Scott - I live in Moab among the leftist elitists whom try to pretend they’re slummin it all while hiding wealth and masking their resentment for tourists Even more fun: Watching local business owners complain about “people not wanting to work,” all while passing up job candidates due to perceived political affiliation. It’s not enough to be a hard worker who shows up on time and was brought up that your work is merit based - but instead - it’s fun watching businesses instead hire people with drug n alcohol dependency all while providing lackluster service to tourists in an above market price situation because “where else ya gonna go bro?!” attitude Here you have to either fit into one of the following “camps” or ideologies: A) The external locus of control whoa is me the man the government “the republicans bro” are holding me back maaaaan Or B) The only thing I have going for me is a lack of imagination, my Truck bro!, and Muh beard bro! In Moab there’s zero room for longformat conversations or contemplation about root causes of problems only rampant complaining about symptoms but don’t bother getting into the weeds with anyone here about economics, hagelian dialectic, or that marx was actually a dead beat father….
Thanks for sharing! It sounds like Moab isn't the place for you? I've visited often for the outdoors, Jeep safari, etc, but I don't know what it's like to live there at all
A-friggin-men! Too bad you’re not my neighbor. My bf and I just can’t believe all the cliches going on around here. But truth be told, these attitudes are not solely endemic, they exist in many states. I know from experience. I trying hard not to lose my mind
@@cheekytitaable Yeah my girl and I both are planning to move. The nepotism is beyond anything I have ever witnessed. I mean - god forbid you drive a 2-door sports car and GASP - you choose to wash it!?!?!? "you're trying to be better, you're trying to be different!!!!" It's seriously like being psychologically assaulted - then you do a good hike and are like: "wow, this is amazing..." then that wears off once you're back home for a few days wondering why druggies and alcoholics are allowed to show up at the job whenever they want - but - if you're simply trying to use your sick time - you're spending 5 hours researching the national labor relations board 1935 laws put in place... I have watched employees take MONTHS OFF of work... I take 2 sick days off in TWO years = I'm the bad guy... That's how bad Moab and the losers who own/operate businesses are here. They are highly discriminatory cult like entities that would rather be less profitable in order to preserve their ideological delusions - and - they would serve a the bellweather case study in hypocrisy if that ever ends up in text books someday!!
I have no idea what you're experiencing in Moab and that does sound terrible. I speak you the best and maybe it's time for a new town or city? Thanks and best wishes
I just turned 30, been in SLC my whole life, and I am leaving for FL next month. Utah just feels like it never has anything going on. I'm bored to tears, and need something completely different...
Bored to tears? Here? Wow, I mean I understand that people don't come here for the nightlife but the opportunities here for things to do are most certainly here
Just make sure you vote conservative in Florida. Else they won’t want you. They’re tired of liberals moving there. I know. I have family, friends and they say there’s too many people moving there. Also check the cost of living.. it’s insane what groceries, property taxes, insurance, cost. I was going to move there but after research realize it’s a bad idea
Here's the truth. Every place in this nation is experiencing very similar pain due to inflation. Some believe it's list corporate greed (those that have never run their own business), some believe it's all to be blamed on the former or the present administration in the white house but the fact remains that you cannot create that much new currency, as was the case throughout the pandemic, without paying the price. Simple economics and principles prove that the result of doing so will inflate prices. You'll get the headlines from any source pushing their narrative as to why but in the end, every American is paying the price and every city and state is affected. Unfortunately it hurts the very people that are less likely to withstand this the most. My heart goes out to single moms, elderly, young people who simply don't see a path to "the American dream" and anyone who's struggling list to get by
@@scottdsteele 100% agree about printing money.. this made things worse everywhere. But as someone who left a Democratic state that I grew up in, I can speak from experience what unchecked spending, corruption, lack of production, and poor business policies do to a state. California is about to run aground due to bad policies. They have lost so many people and businesses.. but the problem is while those voters leave behind a a mess, they still continue to vote for the same policies that inhibit entrepreneur growth, businesses that crest proper paying jobs, and create and over dependence on welfare. I know, bc I was a social worker for 20 years.. their policies change nothing for the less fortunate
This recreation idea is part of the problem-for high income YES-but most people dont' make that. Often you work 80 hours a week and drive an hour each way to work...
Utah is just expensive for the wages. Outside of that, I love so much about Utah's lifestyle. For the population size, there are some pretty great restaurant options. There are many family friendly things to do and they are actually more affordable than I've seen in many other states. Our aquarium is awesome, for example. But labor is not paid super well. It's irritating.
Lots of good restaurants and touristy things to do, but unaffordable to at least half of everyone. Lots of road rage. Regular jobs don't pay enough. I often wonder what many employees are doing for a place to go home to at night for rents are equal or greater to what fulltime jobs pay which is $1200 to $2000 per month take home. All places in the world, the labor and bean counters aren't paid well, but most places did traditionally include everyone for housing, food, transportation, and local entertainment. The world of the 2020's is very irritating.
@@scottdsteeleWAY behind. This is the number 1 reason I left after 40 years. My wages weren't going up as fast as the housing prices, and I found myself in smaller and smaller living spaces. I couldn't afford a home without two full time incomes. I moved to Arizona and can afford a spacious home on my income alone, and still have time and money to enjoy activities and hobbies. The jobs pay better in Arizona. I don't miss the daily near death experiences in traffic, the poor air quality, the snow, the corrupt courts, the toxic Utah Mormon bubble (ie your kid can't play with mine because you don't go to church every week, or you're not Mormon), or the high cost of living. Also, it used to only cost $250 for me to fly to and from Utah, 2-3 years ago. Now it's almost $600.
Born and raised in Utah. I hate what has happened to this once affordable state. I wish people would leave their tax policies in the states they are leaving.
but St. George is away from everything. If you need to get to an international airport, it is like 2.5 hours away the closest, which is not even a Utahn airport...
I am born and raised here. Want to leave because of the traffic, politics and the fact it is just so crowded, everywhere. You can’t even escape up the canyons anymore. Also the air quality, sucks.
It doesn't matter who someone is, what religion they practice, what language they speak, what color or skin they have.. No one deserves to be ignorantly spoken about based on any of those things. It's common decency and should be common sense
What a ridiculous video. There's nothing specific hereat all. It's like reading a fortune cookie that says you'll wake up tomorrow, do a bunch of stuff, then go back to sleep
Thanks for sharing Shelly! Less "recreational things" in Utah? This is the exact reason that people move here, because there's SO much to do recreationally... better than any other state when you factor in the diverse things to do and the proximity to our cities
Had to move to outskirts of Draper since my brother who I rent from moved back down to central Utah where house prices are cheaper. Got a house for 200k that would be valued at 500k+ in salt lake valley. While they build dream home on inherited land. Now paying triple my rent which is practically one paycheck a month plus little more with utilities. I think they should go with what Elon musk brought to the summit 2022/2023.
I left last year came back and plan on leaving again. The problem is i could never afford a house on my own and without a partner I cant do it. Now the Olympics are coming back is not good for the average person like me, I dont have and never had a high paying job and im getting too old now, it seems like you have to have a high tech job to even be successful here. The left wing ideas in Salt Lake IS ruining the city and state. Politics is also a factor me especially how high the crime has gotten in Salt Lake City and its not like i can afford to live southern Utah or a small town as there are no jobs. Also the LDS culture has always been critical if you are not part of their group and felt like they discriminated me not being LDS and had a lot of job opportunities get turned dowb because im not LDS, that part seems to be changing the last couple of years, but like I said you have to have a high paying job to be even successful here.
I would love to see a video of what its like living in Utah as a non Mormon. I already live here, but I'm loving hearing all your perspectives on the state of Utah! 😊
How about the latter day saints? People dont like being encountered by those people. They might feel fed up by them. Latter day saints are usually in a cult!
Utah is not a great place to make friends and have a sense of community for money and individuality is the lifestyle. It's very attractive to 6 and 7 figure income people, but is stressful, hurried, and workholic in vibe for it's expensive. Well to do people from every country in the world come to Utah so it's not a united state with a strong sense of community for diversity isn't our greatest strength like we were told. Your nose will probably run and sneeze from allergies 250 days a year if in the valley for the air quality and local climate called inversion isn't healthy nor pleasant. I guess one has to be a well connected seasoned highly qualified professional in their field to get a good job here for it's globalized and ultra competitive? Yes, a starter house or old 2 bedroom small house with a small yard and driveway is at least a half a million dollars so it is a very competitive market geared towards seasoned professionals and the financially independent. I'd probably been better off to stay in Missouri or a Midwest state, but Utah and the West looked good 10 years ago. Now I can't possibly afford to even buy a car for the inflationary cost of living is overkill.
Utah is expensive and no you don't have to be LDS to thrive here... that's a completely overused and tired narrative that just is not true. I would love to see some serious progress in stopping our real estate from becoming more expensive for sure
@@scottdsteele I think it helps lots of Utahns to be LDS, but you're right, to thrive in Utah doesn't require membership for it's not a full on theocracy, but is very secular. Even if I did have a good full time career job paying say $50,000 a year and good credit score, buying a house or a single acre would be impossible. The economic system all over America is just too matured and too speculative. Lots of people made money off of flipping real estate or just working all the time to invest money. I used to sink in half of what I earned before the 2020's in a Tradeking account. I lost and had cash out with only half of what I had with a reverse split and no appreciation. Never had a solid career of solid constant employment so that kept me down. Lots of temp jobs before 2020, but nothing now. A degree in business is worthless and then when you get older in your 50's like me, you need to be financially independent and self employed in a perspective of people and companies needing you. That is really tricky and unobtainable. I call it the unobtainium for the American dream is dead leaving many just waiting for the end of life or end days.
@@scottdsteele What might I do to earn me some much needed $? It's a real bummer we have this debt based economic marginalizing many while propping up a few whom some are undeserving. It's not that the country and it's economy is dead for lots of people are driving around, but that I and many fellow American's can't thrive and prosper.
America is and always had been the land of opportunity and while it's very much more difficult now than just a handful of years ago, we still live in a land with more opportunity than anywhere in the world and perhaps thinking outside of the box and I believe that the best question is, what can one do or provide in value that exceeds that which he or she earns in return?
Another problem is the rent cost its stupid expensive, i live smack dab in the middle of the city and own my place so i only pay an HOA fee, but around me rent to move into these brand new apartments and condos is 3400 bucks just to move in and paying 1700 bucks a month for a studio is insane. Housing costs do need to come down for sure. And last thing Democrats and Republicans are basically 50/50 so dont worry.
Greed and taxes are ridiculous. I'm past retirement age and plan to work some. Bad enough the feds tax ss but I don't feel the states should be allowed to tax it. Heads up avoid Price it's the worse I can't wait to get out. I lived in Price in the 1980s but is worse now
please make future videos about not separate from each others pros cons opiates of each other leaving utah living morman s .latter day saints .in videos about non.mormans.any faith that not magority latter day saints aka norm and.
Yeah incourage people to come here. The air is bad many people are moving in the valley. Many want to move here. we grew up here it's not what it use to be.Homes are high now and taxes are high. I want to leave now let them deal with the modified weather and crime now
Thanks for sharing Thelma! I've spent so much time this year in Tooele County selling homes in Grantsville, Tooele, Erda, and today... one in Lake Point. It's going to explode out there in the next 15 years
Utah needs to invest more in the highways and other infrastructure. We do not have the right investment to support this growth currently many people move farther west or east of the I 15 and their commute just against the highway is over 30 to 45 minutes. Utah needs to look to Arizona and specifically Phoenix, who was a lot more forward thinking About the growth and population and invested in their infrastructure and now their population growth as well supported and people have multiple access points to a highway to get to work for wherever they need to go.
Thanks for sharing Mark! There are great infrastructure plans taking plans now through the west side of the Salt Lake valley and up north as well as south into Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain. It's the older areas where it's going to be more challenging in the future when these newer areas are built out
What you say is basically the opposite of the truth. You sound like one of the developers that has made Utah something people are now fleeing from. NOBODY is leaving Utah because it's not enough like Phoenix. Nobody is leaving because of lack of infrastructure spending.
NOPE! I come from Arizona. They’re not keeping up. That’s why I left. Their highways were beautiful but then swarms of Californians moved there and it’s turned to mini commifornia. It used to take me 15min to get from my house to the freeway, and by the time I left they built so many subdivisions that my commute added an hour!!!!
40 year Utah native, and VERY well traveled here. 10 years ago you could enjoy the outdoor things here. Now it is way too busy in nearly every single recreational place within 1 hour of the Valley. Night life is lame especially if you're a sports fan atmosphere is just blah and dull everywhere its like it lacks live or pazaz or something, people here are really self serving, selfish, a tad avoidant, and not very friendly unless you fit in their judgemental box. Crowded and way overpriced housing around the jobs, traffic and roads quality is a joke coupled with constant repeated construction. #1 reason NOT to move here Air Quality and its obvious effects on brain chemistry. It's like the state is basically lobotomized 😂.... there is a reason Utah leads the US in "mood altering" psyche drugs. The Inversion and basically 2 sided people who are only nice to your face
I understand what you're asking and why for sure! The premise and the purpose of the title and thumbnail are to explain why, of those who are moving out off Utah, are doing so. In other words, Why Everybody (who is leaving) is moving. I hope that makes sense
@@scottdsteele alright I guess I watch UA-cam but I don’t produce content so I guess I can see why your title is a little more “marketed” as opposed to clear in its description of what’s actually depicted. You gotta get clicks so the title is crafted a little more over the top.
People from Utah will go to L.A. It's right there for sure. Theyll go to SoCal, if they want to be in a world of majority of climates and explore other options, regardless if its expensive. Fresno and Bakersfield are cheap areas to live in Cali. I recommend moving there.
forgot .totally disagree with you bieng a native Utah n middle fifty's residential homes are not afortable .not expensive but expensive is a understatement .superrich is not afortable to homeless and Utah...n..homes are beyond superexpensive beyond afortable you leave out singles that not married family that demographics of populations are not existent in your videos
How is this clickbait? I'm explaining exactly why everyone who's leaving Utah is doing so... precisely what the title says. Did you think that what it meant was that everyone is leaving Utah? That of course isn't and never will be the case
The title reads "Why is EVERYONE moving AWAY from Utah?" The way it reads suggests that everyone in Utah is moving away, even without the all caps on EVERYONE and AWAY. Good content. You explain things well. But the title is over the top. You aren't the only one. This is becoming the UA-cam norm. But that doesn't make it any less annoying.
Thanks! I hold to my point that it's reasonably simple to know that everyone isn't literally leaving Utah and that the title is simply explaining why those who are leaving... why.
@@scottdsteele This is why I clicked, it sounded like people were now moving out of the state, and as someone who is considering moving in, I wanted to be informed if there was a major issue going on now. I liked the video though.
Awesome, thanks! The title is in no way inferring that everyone is packing up and moving out of Utah and that would be weird for me to think that anyone would actually believe that... honestly, do people think that? I'm simply explaining why everyone (that is leaving) is choosing to do so
From where? There are countless sites that do their stories and base their findings on whatever they choose. I've searched and can't find Salt Lake City showing up on a list for rudest cities from more than a dozen outlets
@scottdsteele really? Well, I typed in "top 100 unfriendly cities in america." However, my search brought a list of results. But when I found out about SLC being the rudest city in America, it was about 10 years ago.
Utah is changing so fast I'd say wait 6 months and chances are it will be different...I moved here for a teaching job and its been great for that. Also I'd say the population in general (whether its Mormon or just the people here) is not really friendly, keep to themselves and dont really accept outsiders easily...from an 'outsider' perspective, it seems like its becoming like Southern Cali in a way....but NO NIGHT LIFE to really speak of....if it had a night life.... it would be attracting way more 'normal' people haha
Over 10,000 people did leave Utah last year alone... and the title and premise of this video is not misleading whatsoever, it's simply explaining why those people, who are leaving, are doing so. Yes, Utah is growing with far more people coming then going but this doesn't mean that people do not leave and the reasons that they are leaving are relevant to those who live here as well as those moving here. If you were moving to a new state, you too would want to know why some people might be leaving.
i fervently disagree. there are little to no job opportunities in utah unless you fit into the mold of the dominant society here and even more so if you're yt male and you're morman. so no one should really listen to you because you fit 2 or more of that category or description that i just mentioned.
@DestinyAlready, Diversity is overrated, and the ironic thing is progress is actually IN the word progressive, yet the leftists never make any progress. Unless of course you are talking crime, being perpetual victims, screwing up everything they touch, the list is quite extensive. People have been (mentioning), and recommending things leftists could do to better assimilate into American culture but they never listen. Way too many leftists need to stop watching CNN (Communist News Network) for starters. Normal people don't watch "The View", or care what Whoopi or Joyless have to say. For the record before you play your special card, only 5% of Americans even owned any slaves, most normal Americans are against slavery. In theory we are ALL slaves to a certain degree, some of us just choose not to milk it for everything it's worth.
@@scottdsteele , The truth hurts, I'm sorry if it ruffled some feathers but it's all true. All of it, we were diverse before WW2, and the war memorial has all kinds of diverse names. I think by diverse you mean politically correct, I'm not politically correct so naturally it comes off as hostile but I'm not hostile towards anyone. People want the truth so I'm not going to candy coat it, I go into Utah all the time. From everything I have observed in any state, PC culture and progressive thought have ruined everything that was even remotely decent. People come from all different backgrounds , I think what a lot of people here in the thread mean is they want people to be progressive, which is just word speak for liberal. Utah traditionally was never liberal, I mean sure they have their problems with the LDS thing but from my interaction with the LDS is they are generally decent people. No flash mobs, no rioting because they didn't win the ghetto lottery, and no allowing 15 million criminals just waltz into the country, which is TREASON. People took an oath, the police, the military, the POTUS, if nobody wants their word to mean anything nothing changes for the better. What we have now is a bunch of Communists just trying to instill mob rule. Wherever the liberals move to ruin, everyone else moves out, it's pretty simple. People want to be left in peace, not cultural diversity crammed down their throats 24-7. Don't worry you still got a like and a sub.
1.Because they don’t like record breaking heat in the summer and record breaking lows in the winter. 2. They don’t like that huge parking lot called I-15. 3. They want more than two seasons (winter and construction 😂)
Examples? I see this repeated and I've yet to see examples. I don't see it in my world and I'm but saying that it doesn't exist, and at the same time it's certainly a far too broad of a brush stroke to say that Utah's people are this way
there are other reasons to move. little to no diversity, racial microaggressions, bigotry, and not to mention racial stereotyping which has been going on since I was a teenager. so it's a nonprogressive state. headquarters of mormanism is in salt lake city but rampant homelessness in the streets of Salt Lake City. there is a lot you didn't mention but being a privileged yt male who doesn't experience those things. why would you mention that?
Thanks for sharing! Privileged? Do you even know me? If you did you'd know that my own parents left us when I was a year old and it's pretty funny to think that I was Privileged. The words of Morgan Freeman share my feelings best regarding racism. It's terrible, absolutely. At the same time, there is zero reason that it has to be used in every situation

I think utah is like LA now. You need more than six figures to live well there. Its not a middle class place anymore.
Utah as well as everywhere else has become so much more expensive over these last 4 years
The United States aren’t a middle class country anymore. Six figures is required everywhere for comfortable living.
Exactly
You need to make 6 figures to live well anywhere 😁
Yep
My wife and I are closing on our first house in NC today. We made the hard decision to leave Utah and my extended family behind in order to better our lives.
Congrats today!!!
Best wishes, and thank you for sharing!
can you share more? we are looking in WV, lifetime Utahns, ex-LDS here, non toxic (you dont leave toxic to go to another toxic think - just silly), no longer wanting to raise our kids where they are not fully accepted here because they aint mormon.
What are you talking about. I live in SLC and it is a constant in flow of new people. We wish people were moving out.
@TUBESPECIFIC1 lol, sounds like this fishing dude is just paranoid, no one's out there looking to kill you while fishing 😆
Agreed.... we all have very unique and individual perspectives but at the same time I see so much fear in the comments that are exacerbated by inflation that had weakened the dollar of every single American.
Thane for sharing! Can you share why you feel it's destroyed? I'm simply curious.
@@Paysoncougarfan.7885 I agree 100% with this. It’s only a short matter of time that SLC runs out of water with it’s mostly closed weather system
Soon as grantsville grows the way Lehi did I’m selling and getting out of Utah. The taxes here are insane
You are spot on @dalatina911. It's grown so fast

There's one constant in life and that is change
I'll say I moved away because because I was searching for a job for 3 months in my last semester of college, and didn't get any call backs. After I received my undergrad in operations and Supply Chain, I searched 3 more months. I had one interview which fell through. I was searching and applying for a job full time and still nothing. After that, I started looking out of state and had a lot more success
Thanks for sharing! I'm happy that you found something
I'm happy to help you move when the time is right. Have a nice day.
Please leave, you can't get out fast enough. Please just go!
I get it
Why the hate? So many comments from you with nothing but negativity. Why?
Born and raised in Utah. Please, everyone, leave, you're destroying our beautiful state.
Terrible drivers in Utah. That alone could drive someone out.
The rudest drivers I’ve ever been around.
I grew up here and I concur.
Candice, unfortunately I agree 👍 Are you from Utah?
It was fine until the outsiders came. Tailgating and 90 mph everywhere isn't how it was 10 years ago.
And newcomers come and feel like it's the locals... it's all perspective
We are moving away from Utah here. Our kids aren't going to be able to afford to live here. It's becoming the next California. As far as cost, but our minimum wage is $7.25
It has gotten way too expensive, I agree
@@scottdsteele utah is california without the good weather, good wages, and shitty mormon politics with no labor protections. i will pass.
Sounds like Utah isn't for you for sure!
I’m a trucker and been driving in and out of Utah since 2010. Utah is growing more and more. I don’t see anyone leaving except a few people getting job offers.
I talk to people every day both moving to and leaving Utah. Thousands left last year
@@scottdsteele That’s possible but i’d say twice more moved in than moved out. But it’s just from my personal observation with a bunch new developments, apartments, houses etc. i’d like to know the actual numbers of the consensus.
Many people in my social circle are planning on leaving due to housing costs alone, I myself plan to leave as soon as i find a job elsewhere
I agree with you 100% and honestly, your opinion is likely spot on. I do believe that it's literally twice as many moving in than are moving out.
Yeah, housing costs are the greatest threat to Utahs future for this very reason
We are moving away from Utah in October for my work. But even if we didn't move for work, we would probably move away anyway. It's getting too expensive to live here. There are too many people as well. It's just too crowded.
I totally understand! Let me know if I can help
I tried moving to Utah, but lack of affordable housing had me move out after a few months.
I totally understand
You are spot on. Thank you so much for sharing

I would live in WY if the winters weren’t so tough. My brother has lived there in different parts of the state, so I’ve seen and heard how long and tough they can be.

I am a black senior citizen planning to retire to Utah in 1-2 years and definitely not for the politics or "family values" though moving to be near family (what an oxymoron). As a person of color, I've met some nice people and some not so nice. "The South" starts at the border of the U.S. and Canada⬇.
We would love to have you my friend! While there are so many nice people you'll of course find those that aren't as well. Happy to help you!
@@scottdsteele Utah's streets are more crowded with homeless people than cali. And that is with utah freezing half of them to death in their winters.
Doesn’t seem like anyone is leaving can’t do anything here anymore with being surrounded by people from California
And we’re here to stay 😊
Some leave, many more come = growth...I understand
For real. Every 6th license plate seems to be from CA.
Can you blame them for coming here? Wouldn't you?
I know, it's crazy Matthew! It's fun to see the city alive too
What about St. George radioactivy? (Bomb testing in the 1950s). Nuclear stuff lasts for thousands of years. The area is contaminated.
You're correct! Fallout from testing from 1951-1962 absolutely affected St George resulting in radioactivity with levels 100-1000 times greater than the national average
I’m leaving after being in SLC for 10 years; this place has grown way too fast to where it lost its charm.
I understand your sentiment for sure
The only thing making me think about moving is the fact that I miss rain and am lonely here. I love Utah so much but for the past 30 years I feel like a ghost among people. The politics is one of the things making me stay. I can walk to the gas station at 2 AM with little to worry about and I love that. I just wish I fit in better.

A) The external locus of control whoa is me the man the government “the republicans bro” are holding me back maaaaan
Or
B) The only thing I have going for me is a lack of imagination, my Truck bro!, and Muh beard bro!

My heart goes out to single moms, elderly, young people who simply don't see a path to "the American dream" and anyone who's struggling list to get by
Good luck in florida 😂😂😂
Thane for sharing!
I totally understand. Wages are certainly behind
I agree with you, great comment, Thanks
Thanks for sharing your opinion
Everyone moving away from Utah? I think not! Have you looked at house prices? Supply and demand has house prices through the roof!!
The premise is not that everybody is leaving Utah... it's an explanation as to why everyone who is leaving is.
I live in Alpine, UT - If you have a million, you won't find much, if anything. (I rent part of a home).
Alpine is one of the most expensive places in Utah
Born and raised in Utah. I hate what has happened to this once affordable state. I wish people would leave their tax policies in the states they are leaving.
I understand
If you're thinking of moving out of Utah... You totally should. Right away. And tell all your other out of state transplants to move away too.
I get it
but St. George is away from everything. If you need to get to an international airport, it is like 2.5 hours away the closest, which is not even a Utahn airport...
That is very true!
If you are considering moving away from Utah I support that idea. I may even help load up you U-Haul.
That'll keep you busy!

Hi! Love your videos. You should make a video about the airport flights if there is any international flights.. thank you
Ahhh, thank you so much! That's a great idea... I'll do that
I am born and raised here. Want to leave because of the traffic, politics and the fact it is just so crowded, everywhere. You can’t even escape up the canyons anymore. Also the air quality, sucks.
There are 29 states that are more populated than Utah and 20 states that are less populated. Which of those 20 would you like to move to?
How about the latter day saints? People dont like being encountered by those people. They might feel fed up by them.
And the worst comment of the day goes to???
They’re everywhere, grow up and politely decline them

It doesn't matter who someone is, what religion they practice, what language they speak, what color or skin they have.. No one deserves to be ignorantly spoken about based on any of those things. It's common decency and should be common sense
What a ridiculous video. There's nothing specific hereat all. It's like reading a fortune cookie that says you'll wake up tomorrow, do a bunch of stuff, then go back to sleep
Thanks for sharing Bobby! It's certainly the wrong video for you
Utah is a nice place however the air quality is bad, low wage, and less recreational things. Communication too in apartments is bad but it can approve
It has just gotten too expensive for sure
I understand your opinions
Yes, make that video
What video is that?
I would love to see a video of what its like living in Utah as a non Mormon. I already live here, but I'm loving hearing all your perspectives on the state of Utah! 😊
Great idea Naomi! Where do you live? Are you from here originally! Reach out anytime of you want to connect
Home prices doubled a year before we bought in Utah :/
So frustrating, I'm sorry
How about the latter day saints? People dont like being encountered by those people. They might feel fed up by them. Latter day saints are usually in a cult!
Do you know what a cult is? If this is the case then any Christian is a member ofa cult
I'm sorry for what you're experiencing 🙏
People are moving here in droves St George fasted growing city in the nation
You are correct @ carolejean63. St. George is exploding and the traffic is getting crazy now
I personally do not feel wages are not on the rise here.
The data shows that they are not it certainly doesn't feel like it for the people with rising inflation and unless you've changed jobs

Yeah, I've never heard of someone leaving with that in mind
@@cheekytitaable come to Utah and you might gain more appreciation for what AZ had by comparison.

Very informative video. But I can't say how tired I am with click-bait UA-cam video titles. Please, Please, Please be more honest in your titles.
I'm simply explaining why everyone (that is leaving) is choosing to do so
Utah is great, it's SLC that the problem.
How so?
@scottdsteele SLC was in the top 100 rudest cities based on visitors. However, Ruth Chris Steakhouse is worth it.
Yeah, and these sites that create these articles are motivated by what? And are written by whom? And what data points are they actually using?
Utah is changing so fast I'd say wait 6 months and chances are it will be different...I moved here for a teaching job and its been great for that. Also I'd say the population in general (whether its Mormon or just the people here) is not really friendly, keep to themselves and dont really accept outsiders easily...from an 'outsider' perspective, it seems like its becoming like Southern Cali in a way....but NO NIGHT LIFE to really speak of....if it had a night life.... it would be attracting way more 'normal' people haha

Good grief. The title of this video is so misleading.
Not true whatsoever.
