I love my Renegade Trailhawk!! We get so much crap and look at our little tanks!!!! As admin for 307Renegades and Jeep Renegade Trailhawk Enthusiasts, I’m proud of our Jeeps.
The driver had to work the wheels but made it very impressive. I didn't think it would have the power to climb the steep areas but it had just enough. Good driving and spotting.
There’s some climbs on the rest of hells revenge that are steeper. I was there a month prior to this and chickened out. But then I did the rest of hells and realized it’s not that steep. I was worried about the power to get up. Obviously I picked a horrible line at the end but I was just focused on getting out. I think it could do that last part better with a better line.
@@dc_advntr5525 Yes it's more intimidating than steep especially when you see the rollovers and I will definitely try it in my FJ Cruiser next trip to Moab. Keep the videos coming when you do more climbs and thanks for posting.
Today I took my 2018 Renny through a pretty deep puddle at a farmers market, and got some badass splatters of mud on the facia and up the sides.....so pretty much the same thing as this run. 😏
@@krebgurfson5732 I know your comment is old. But man.. the ONLY thing this little jeep cant really do that the wrangler can is deep mud/water and BIG rock crawling. The 4x4 system on these things is insane and substitutes traction control and electronic brake control for lockers. Most places where ground clearance or "break something" mud arent a factor, this little jeep will go. Granted, they ARE NOT Wranglers and they never will be. But i will say this.. my friend has a 2014 Wrangler with about a 3.5in lift and 34s or 35s on his, and his Jeep would be unstoppable with the 4x4 system on the renegade. Again, the renegade isnt equal, it never will be simply because it lacks the ground clearance to even cross standing water as easy as a Wrangler does. But dont let it fool you, the renegade is plenty capable if your goal is to have fun wheeling and be able t drive the same vehicle to and from the trails. If youre looking for something to mud bog and potentially send your Dana 44 out the back in pieces... then the renegade isnt for you. It'll go almost anywhere. Not fast, and not as easy.. and in some cases id pack a fresh pair of underpants if your pucker factor isnt that high.. but man.. its a great little Jeep.
@@dc_advntr5525 But its still 100lbs positioned at the very top of the rig, it definitely lowers your roll over angle significantly. Glad it worked out for you but its simply not a risk i would want to take, i try to keep all weight as low as possible whenever wheeling. I'll be out in CO next month...can't wait!
I'm one of very few South African's who drives one off these. No modifications on mine accept some proper offroad tyres. I've been able to keep up with larger vehicles on most obstacles. Only one's that I really can't do are the ones where ride hight is needed. Everything else the little Renegade is very good at. Also been able to keep up with Suzuki Jimmy's and do some obstacles they couldn't who are not available in the U.S. they're incredible little 4X4s with a reputation for being able to handle anything. They have good ground clearance and are light as a feather. But the Jeep kept up with them easily
Proof that you don't need gnarly diesels and monster truck tires to do hard off-roading. It's all about weight and traction/gearing. Very impressive!!!
Just because it can do it doesn't mean it's a good idea. Little engine and transmission is probably working very hard. Probably bad on the differentials too if it has clutch packs. Still it's a very impressive little car
I hope you’re an experienced driver with a good spotter up at the top. I was the only one in our event of 30 plus renegades to make it up. And I’m far from stock. Lifted with springs and larger diameter wheels and solid all terrain tires as well as added skids and rock sliders. Tires and spotter being the most important on this.
What do you mean by one off? My lift is a teraflex 1.5” with quick swaybar disconnects (that were disconnected for this). My tires are a 235/65/17 hankook dynapro atm. 29” total size. Stock for a compass and renegade is a 28” wheel.
I will only do something like that when the asteroid hits us or aliens or Russians invade. Until then my renegade goes to Sams club and Walmart and it performs very well with cargo space
and to think, if it does this it can do anything most people would want to do. but people still shit on the Rene TH. This is convincing me to go trade in my c300 benz coupe for one this week
Keep the faith. I live in colorado, and recently drove/plowed through 18”-24” of snow with my stock TH. The only problem I encountered was driving around the AWD Subaru’s, Toyota’s, and Durango’s. My baby Jeep doesn’t look like much, but she’s got it where it counts!!!
I have hankook dynapro atm in 235/65/17. I’m lifted on a teraflex 1.5” lift with sway bars disconnected and eibach lift springs. All valkyrie off road skid plates and daystar rock rails.
What mode were you in? Rock? Low? I have 16 inch wheels on my trailhawk. They work fine. Not much clearance between caliper and rim. What mode were you in? Thanks.
@@dc_advntr5525 Thank you for the reply. The modes confuse me a little. If I put it in 1st gear manually is that as low as it will get. I have a trail hawk and it has 4 low rock, but it will cut power to the wheels if they spin. Is 1st gear as low as 4 low rock?
You are correct. 1st gear manually is as low as you will get. Our “low” button forces the transmission to stay in first gear (till a certain speed anyway, then it will shift to protect itself.). So you can push the low button with any mode and it will be in first gear. Rock mode is a mode only offered to the trailhawks but it doesn’t make the gearing any lower. It’s really only good on solid rock like Moab because you are correct, it will cut power when it senses slip. I use mud and low 95% of the time because it allows a little wheel spin.
@@dc_advntr5525 One last question, I am excited that I found some one to ask these questions, Is there any reason to push the traction control button down by the parking brake? OK, this may not be my last question.
Not for off roading. When you put it in low it will turn that off anyway. But if you want to do donuts in the snow, put it in snow mode or push the traction control button. Also, if you want to do donuts, press and hold the traction control button for 9 seconds until you see “esc off” message on the dash. That will turn off the electric stability control. That’s the system that applies brakes when you’re sliding sideways. Join the Facebook group jeep renegade life. Lots of questions can be answered there too.
Na. Temps were good. It’s got torque limiters to prevent damage to the drive line. That why it struggles so bad on that horrible line I took a few times. That and the traction control trying to find some grip.
Update. Added a secondary trans cooler in series with the factory one. Have since upgraded to bigger tires and it needed a little extra cooling. But still going strong.
I was indeed. I’ll never do it again in the renegade haha. It took some work. And i used every skid I have. And blew a tire just after the last step. I didn’t do a video for it. But my Instagram has the photo. @sierrabluejroc
Oh you’ll scrape on hells revenge still. I highly recommend getting the Valkyrie off road rear diff skid plate and center bearing skid plate upgrade. Also what tires you running?
In this vid I have 235/65/17 tires on. I am lifted with the teraflex 1.5” lift and the eibach lifting springs. (2.5” of total lift). Sway bar is disconnected.
@@dc_advntr5525 How much difference do the springs make? I have a BU TH. All stock right now, I was thinking of getting a 2-in. While I don't necessarily plan on doing serious crawling in it, I am trying to educate myself on what the best quality is in the long run. It's kind of a new interest for me.
The springs alone will give you 1” of lift over your stock setup. The springs are also a bit stronger than stock so you won’t sag as much when you’re loaded with gear. They’re designed to compress better as well. If you want to do a 2” lift kit I’d recommend the avid lift. It’s a good quality product. But the most common combo is the Teraflex 1.5” lift with the eibach springs.
