The nearest thing I've got (to a Class 108) in my collection is, oddly enough, the Class 128. As for the 108, she's a good looking unit, but not really my cup of tea. I'd prefer a 104 or Derby Lightweight.
Interesting! Yes, the internal lighting in that 108 unit is rather odd in that it uses LEDs at the ends with pieces of clear plastic in the ceilings with oval 'bumps' to reflect the light along the coaches. That doesn't work well and is dim so in my old 108, I replaced the lighting with LED strips and 4K resistors so it is now separately controllable and a bit brighter.
@@waynemeakin From Jenny's footage when she DCC-fitted both coaches, it looked like the lighting system was just the same as it was on the earlier version of the model
Thay really do benefit with a few fare dodging passengers it takes away the ghost train affect. I have 2 original release 108s from around 2007 costing around £57 for a 3 car set . Unfortunately it's getting very expensive 😢
The easiest method that I found to remove/refit Class 108 bodies is to utilise stripe of old credit cards. 1 old card can be easily be cut into 4 strips, enough to ease the body sides away from the chassis frame.
Stuff like these DMUs from everyone should be a staple in their catalogues, such as the various coaches in the different liveries. The Derby DMUs were some of the better looking of the original DMUs - I much prefer the Class 114, as they were around my area growing up! I think the DCC8 + DCC8 has been like that a while - I know the ones I have and the older green one I bought back in 2014 was for sure.
Hi Jenny, the older versions of the 108 have cabin lighting issues in ghat they are very dim. Can you tell me if Bachmann have sorted this issue? Cheers
It's better to remove the front bogie before removing the front chassis screw and I use a cut up margarine tub as plastic inserts along the edge to release the clips, the chassis should then just pull out without any shaking but it's better to take your time 😂
I think in 2023 you really should start taking in consideration if a DMU has close coupling between the coaches. This is standard for almost two decades with mainland Europe manufacturers and there they couldn’t get away with what Bachmann presents here. But I guess you ar so used of this wide gap between coaches in the UK that you don’t think about it. It makes it look like a toy train from the 80’s to me. It should have lost a few points for this. 9.8 really is too much.
Great review Jenny that unit does look nice give it a driver and some passengers and it will be complete.
Come on a long way , Still using a Lima 117 , and a first generation DMU I've found memory of these. I think if it was weathered it would look ace

Before I buy a new one I need to know if this has changed. The rest of the model seems identical so I doubt it has.

@@jamesgilbart2672 yes, looks like it's just a reboxed version of the old one. Oh well. Still a bargain at £149..
Wonderful video

Hi, good review, does the give-a-way unit come with the two decoders fitted? Regards Barry
Nice one, Jen. I prefer the version in BR green and speed whiskers as I rode on these a few times between Fleetwood and Thornton!
Looks great, just what I have been looking for. Thanks
I have 2 original Bachmann 108s from 2007 and both have 8 pin sockets in the trailer cars not 6 😊

In Yorks/Lincs they used to pull a CCT - and I can remember that about 1980ish
