Did this to mine about a month ago. Quick tip if you hold the eraser wheel horizontally would make the tape come off more easily and it would help with no spreading. Used goof-off to remove any left over tape. After just polish the dirt and I have to say results where amazing! Love you’re Channel, keep up the good work 🤘🏼
I watched this video and wanted to tackle this after my recent vacation. While I was on vacation I got whacked by a loose shopping cart in the wind. Slammed the side of my 12 Silverado right on the door trim. I’m glad I left it and now I’m thinking I might leave it, but it does look 100X better without it lol
Personally the door moldings have saved my truck from many door dings

Just got me a lifted 08’ Silverado as my first truck and this is definitely going to be my first “mod”
I just pulled mine off,( no heat gun or fishing line ) luckily I didnt have the paint issue lol . Looks great.
I removed the molding on my 11 Silverado over the weekend, but was left with some light scratches parallel to where the tape was adhered to. Going to try the microfiber buffing disc with some polish and see if that helps. Great video, thanks. Even though things didn't go 100% as planned, it's still important to highlight the hurdles that often pop up when doing a job like this.
Goo gone is a miracle not sure how good it is on auto paint but I’ve used it on everything else and wow keep up the awesome vids I’m a born again gmc owner and absolutely love watching your videos
everyones got their preference of what they like, me? i personally like how the trim doesn't make it look so bland. And the trim as saved my door from A LOT of idiots hitting it. However regardless, that sucks about the paint. But the plusside is at least that spot is "cleaned" up for some paint prep. Love the blue btw. Mines "Victory Red" w/black accents.

GM Navy blue usually will chip off the primer. It happens to almost all of them after 10 years. I had the same trim on my truck and I took it off because it had the drip like yours and that drip is a hard water stain. At least yours is just paint. Mine had rust bubbles behind it!
Goo gone works wonders! That and a plastic paint remover works great.
Did the same thing to my truck..Good job!

I have the exact truck and love your mods.I used a little Gasoline & alot of elbow greese to get mine off.
Just took off my emblem on the tailgate of my 08 and changed it. Try using a plastic razor blade and goo gone for future projects. It worked good for me and less risk to the paint.
Glad that trim is coming off. They look so much better. And please dont lower that truck. Looks great like it is. Oh and welcome to tx bro.

That’s crazy I have the same truck same lift different wheels and I just did this on Saturday! Lol sorry to hear about your paint. The rubber wheel was able to take everything off on mine I’m surprised it left a line on yours.

As far as the light duty trucks yea I agree but on the HD trucks I like the Chevys a little more
The paint peeling off is normal when ripping off mounding. I’ve got a full set of 4 extended doors sitting in a shed with the same thing. And unfortunately we have 2 of the hardest colors to match. Silver birch metallic, that blue and the red are very hard to match

Just did mine ‘12 ... took off everything the trim the lettering on both sides and the bow tie badge on the tail gate and lettering .... man it look so good ... but some adhesive was left cuz it was caked on like yours
I color matched my door handles with dupli color spray can and it gave it a better look too
Never did this on my 08. I regret not doing it. It looks so much cleaner.

I like the look of the new chevys. It is different. Like the looks of the other trucks as well but I'm a chevy guy.
I have a 2007 Silverado and my door trim did the same thing as your!
Mine collects dirt too and it’s impossible to get it out. Though I do prefer the look of these trucks with the Door Moulding Trim for some reason
It looks nice without but I like the added price of mind with it on for other peoples doors and I have also gotten used to how it looks.
@@tybowhunter8987 all they did is chip the paint off of the trim so it still looked bad.

At the end of doing this myself. What A PAIN!! I'm using the eraser wheel, goo-gone and a plastic pan scraper to remove the adhesive. Next step is the razor for any stubborn stuff (last resort) and then buff and shine! 2008 1500 crew cab.

I just did mine on a 2013. I just used gasoline on the adhesive with paper towels. A lot of work, but worked perfect with no paint damage.
What about applying some CLR and see if it dissolves the calcium?
I just subscribe I have the same year GMC Sierra and been giving serious thought to taking off my door moldings and underneath I have the same problem as you clear coat and paint coming off I'm definitely going to give it a shot myself and see if I can fix this mess
I live in ohio. Mine was coming off from all the years of salt. The goo gone worked the best, to clean up and get rid of that stubborn sealant. Took along time tho
Don’t feel bad bro, i decided to take off my siding & on my driver side doors and someone used a different glue instead of 3m and used some type of rubber spacer for the siding and it pulled paint off all the way to the metal in spots , passenger side not a single problem with the paint just driver side pulled paint in some spots
Man, I did this to my 2013 TX Edition Sierra. It was a huge pain in my ass lol

I have a 07.5 gmc which is that same body style and had the same issue on the same door. pulled the mounding off and saw that the paint was gone. I am the only owner of the truck and have never replaced that piece. Maybe some sort of GM issue that year?
High percentage such as 91 percent running alcohol works well on the leftover adhesive
The trim makes those trucks look nice because they are so bland and it'll save you a dent.
I have some heavy dents on my 2010 f150 that some nice person left because they care so much for other ppls stuff.
Just bought an 04 trailblazer. Not by choice really🙄! Long story..took the trim and make n model emblems off it. Used a tin can of "goo be gone" and alil elbow grease. Worked good on one side. But the drivers side is alot more thicker glue.. So it's gonna take me awhile to get that off. No power tool life🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️! But thanks for the razor blade idea. Hopefully I dont break my 💅🏾 or make it worse🤭! 👍🏽
I have the exact same truck same year was only owned by my grandpa he never replaced that trim and mine had paint peeled off in the same way when I took mine off
What’s a pain is the LT models that have the chrome trim at the top of that door trim... that doesn’t bend at all!
I've always wanted to remove them on our 09 tahoe but I never wanted to deal with the adhesive lol

the eraser wheel wouldve got that dirt off no problem just lean on it a little i use them all the time to remove decals and glue residue on trucks everyday at work. honestly my favorite tool crank that fuel on speed 2 and go comes out beautiful with polish after

Use Mr. Clean magic eraser for the built up grime outline. Did mine today it works way better then a razor.

You likely can, but it’ll take a bit longer

Next time use a plastic razorblade...it works so much better! And safer! 😆 BTW way if you do end up getting a new truck. 2016 to 2018 is the way to go.
I removed the trim off my 2013 a while back, I think it gives the truck a cleaner and sleeker look. I used Goo Gone to remove the adhesive, but still have some spots here and there. The wheel might help me out though! As always, nice build!

Use lacquer thinner and 800 wet sandpaper and buffet with polishing compound
What did you use on the buffer?
My 2010 crew cab came to me with gorilla glued molding. So far I haven’t found anything to remove the gorilla glue and leave the paint....
I used gasoline to get that grime off. Worked perfect
Anyone got a similar year Silverado to this without the Bose? Trying to find a stereo that will fit nicely into the dash.
If you take painters tape on each end of the razor blade it will give you that buffer/ rise off the surface.

The parking spots in Hawaii are so small your best bet is minivan with sliding doors.
People think the trim is ugly but it’s literally fine. It kept your truck different.
I de-badged my whole truck using fishing line and Goo-Gone Automotive. You can give me that UGLY CHEVY TRUCK. I'm in Texas also. I miss mine. 2011 Extended cab got totaled because of a crazy lady. FYI Super Glue will remove the paint like that. I removed everything except for the bowtie's which I color matched.

When you get the molding off of course use an eraser wheel. But when you get to the grime line use a rubbing compound (you can even do it by hand with a microfiber cloth) then apply a wax after.
Since that truck is 2wd you could drop it and then get a trail boss 4wd and lift it

Cant say for sure but my guess is whoever had the truck before you tried to do the same thing and started with the driver side rear and fucked it up and just glued it back on with whatever he had sitting on the shelf

I know exactly what happened to that paint. Some fool used household super glue. I know because my brother used some on his 03 2500 Hd and when it came off, his paint was destroyed. This was a repair done to make it pretty for a trade in/sale because it was peeling off. Just like mine are starting to do.
