- This beautiful Calypso red E31 850i was left to rot in Southern France for the last 10 years. It was sitting outside in a garden all this time and that took its toll on the poor 8er. I bought it sight unseen and in this episode, we go over the condition of the car as the time has come to bring this forgotten legend of the '90s back to life! Just so people know. It is not expensive just in Germany only because it is Germany. My dad is a car painter and I help him often. It is such a long painstaking process to paint the WHOLE car. Let's say you are painting the hood. You have to clean it first, sand it (no need to sand it all the way to metal if it isn't necessary) clean it, do something I can't remember (primer I think), sand it under water, clean it, dust off the air, tape the parts you don't want to paint, put the car part into the chamber, dust it, clean it and now it is ready for multiple layers of paint. Someone has to pick the right colour because the database is usually shite and the colours don't match and then mix it.
Do you want your paint job to deteriorate in a year or do you want it to last? I know my dad sometimes looks at a car and says "I painted that 10 years ago"
Meanwhile you are working with chemicals and my dad at 50 had aggressive cancer and you have to use a respirator if you like your health.
Currently this is "hands down" the best channel of UA-cam!
@Lee You are right! It's just that M539 does everything as most of us would do and with tools most people have in their garages. It's easy for me to feel the pain he feels, when he struggles, because I can relate and it just makes me smile...

I also bought a V12 unseen based completely on the history and a few pics. That was 6 months ago and I still haven't seen it in the flesh. Probably won't for another 6 months as I live 10,000kms away from it. Your neighbour would approve as its an XJ12 (X305). Slick-top!

Dude, on French Cars yellow Headlights are actually allowed in Germany! They don't have to be white. Call up your local TÜV about that! Should not be a Problem!

But I think this rule ONLY applies to cars that had yellow lights as standard and that have a German Oldtimer License Plate (Car needs to be older than 30 years). The bulb needs to be white, the housing is allowed to be yellow.
If I'm wrong I'm sorry, but I think that's the case. Used to see a lot of french Oldtimers where I live, all of them had yellow Headlights. But these are my 2 Cents. At least calling the TÜV Inspector about it should be worth it.

BMW died the moment they hired that stupid Bangle as a designer. The BMWs from the 90s and 80s had such an amazing character and presence. Now they look generic and boring...
@@E34Benzin I can't agree on that, Bangle's designes have aged quite well tbh.. E60 and E65 LCI all look very modern despite beinge 15+ years since they came out. E9x series as well.

I recently started restoration of my Opel Kadett and done total sandblasting and welding in Kyiv Ukraine. After sand i covered it's bottom completely with Dinitrol with ship paint below it. Rust is no go now:)
Here it costed me 1200 usd + 1000 usd for welding. In Germany i thing it would be must more expensive...

Other than the fact this guy knows his stuff, he has a better command of the English language than almost anyone I've ever encountered, I met Gore Vidal in the run-up for the 1962 midterm election and he displayed the most eloquent use of English I had ever witnessed, or can recall from the last 59 years.
While I have to concede this young man more than likely picked up most of his slang from either the internet, from being around GI's, or college students. One word that gives his quality of education away is the use of the word "perish", an elegant verb replaced by the pedantic, harsh, and soul eroding word deteriorate. In the last few years the term perishables has made a slow comeback to the automotive industry, after being exclusively resigned to the food industry for 50 odd years. It's refreshing to hear a young person who isn't even from an English speaking country display such an extraordinary command of the language.
