Just to add a couple more things. Calypso red is staying and it'll get a fresh paint job at one point.
The engine is currently working great, but it will eventually need the timing chain replaced because of the noise, hence the idea to go 3 million steps further and do the upgrades I mentioned in the video. Don't expect a new episode on this project any time soon as I first need to find a bigger place in order to get the ball rolling with this build!
So glad the colour is staying, I don't know why but I love the patina on this car
You really have great skills so working in a bigger garage would fit better to your work
Nice video.
You still the best..
That V12 is a wonderful engine
Cool, cant wait for you to get that bigger place you deserve it, best BMW and car mechanic channel on UA-cam by far.
Im still watching the video but something on your transmision broke i think its one of the transmision mounts idk check it to be sure
My seven year old twin boys only watch minecraft videos on youtube, and now this channel: "pappa, let's watch the guy that fixes cars". There can be no higher praise.
Haha, that's awesome! Thank you!
>Accelerates into closed gates
>"Do we have brakes?"
>Guess we'll find out
Wow, soda blasting.. I didn't even know they made a tiny DIY kit like that. Pretty cool, man, I might try that. Out in the street. Maybe way down the street where my neighbor won't bitch at me.
Originally used to remove stains from teeth. Still is used in some clinics.
@@ironmantooltime Not BMW Doctor please...
Where do you get soda?
I may give it a try.
@@ironmantooltime The only thing he's carrying is a large appetite for dough pushing worthless chinese tat- he lost me when he started pushing some Chinese subscription based OBD reader & programmer(LOL) costing approx£400 to buy plus mountain of money for subscriptions and modules activations. All that while he himself uses the only one thing you need to come close to any BMW with i.e. ISTA+ and ICOM. Not partial to making a bob or two on a side but there is a limit to how much of a sell out you can be before your credibility goes south and stays there. Sreten for example recommends only the stuff he uses himself, that's integrity and putting your money where your mouth is.
@@peterlabiak1051 yeah but he’s often even noting that what he uses is his choice, why it’s his choice, and that he is not suggesting you do the same.
Every part of a project, he’s always in the middle of buying another and we love him!
He's the truest BMW aficionado out there!
I would be shocked to find any professional mechanics in my area as knowledgeable as a guy who does this in his spare time in a rented garage in germany. Insane how much you know about all these cars and how literally everything inside them works.
I think its all done by following step by step auto-data repair guides.
@@kanzibg1 hahahah yeah you are such a joke, if he looks everything up on autodata he wouldnt be doing everything so quickly. Are you jealous that you arent capable of doing things like this or what.
@@kanzibg1 it probably is but still you need to know what you're doing to not fuck up. Not every beginner can pick up a workshop manual and start working on his car.
He quit his full-time job to dedicate to this, so it isn't spare time anymore (still cool anyways)
@@timvg228 He is very familiar with these series of BMW, but initially, he had to do the research and occasionally again to confirm his knowledge.
14:22 The right Gearbox holder snaps off!
Sreten needs to see this
The 8 series was standing in a garden for 10 years and the embolum in the front is still good.
My e46: hold my embolum
I read this as embolism instead of emblem.
@@Onizukachan915 it's emblematic when English is not your first language.
@@sheerluckholmes5468 It's embolumatic of Google translate.
Well this car is... emblematic! Thankfully not too problematic! So the videos aren't to melodramatic! Why it's greased, scrubbed, soda cleaned, refurbished and lovingly restored lightning!
When my client wants to know why their computer isn't ready on time, I'm gonna tell them it's because you posted a new video.
Legit excuse. Client won't complain.
Send the client link of video, that will do it.
what tha fuck
Tell them you soda blasted it.
There has been some issues.. priority setting issues ;)
Do not touch the color. It's extremely nice. In my mind 8 series is always in this color.
One of the best car channels. Even my life watches it when "it's on"
Our families citroen XM was in this red, 8-series for me is black or dark blue.
This colour is fantastic. Agreed, do not even think of doing a colour change.

The red colour is so 90's - it suits it!

Nothing more satisfying than the notification "M539 Restorations uploaded a new video"
I know you've mentioned youtubers that have inspired you over the years, and I just wanted to let you know that you've now done this long enough (and well enough) that you've inspired me to follow a passion for rescuing great European modern classics from the scrap bin and document it on UA-cam (i've done plenty in the past just for fun, and I've had both gaming and tech-review channels in the past). I have my first project in the garage already and parts are on the way; an E38 that was rescued from being run into the ground and is now undergoing an oem restoration. Thank you :).
That sounds great. The E38 is such a beautiful, underrated car. I've just subscribed and am looking forward to seeing your work.
🍻
@@macman6107 Thanks, and I love it already. Much appreciate for the sub too :).
I'm gonna admit, I'm not much of a BMW fan, but seeing you working with this kind of passion, on these cars, makes me want to buy one, and have it sent over to you, to restore it, Congratulations Man, you deserve all the respect in the world, for bringing Jeweleries like this, restored to its former glory and state! You have earned my respect and appreciation 🙏
Very nice words. I more a MB fan but the passion for BMW and the way is working is great. I can’t wait for the next episode.
You have my respect too.

I miss the picture of you relaxing after a hard days work at the end.
Mate, you have the most convincing videos on UA-cam!
They convince me that I can do what you are doing!
Damn!
31:13 when BMW actually knew what design looks like. Every line on this car has a purpose, and every line is met with its counter. There's no idiotic over styling, no "LOOK AT ME" flashing. This car is there and it exists and it doesn't care about any other car. Put this side by side with any other BMW from recent years and this still looks million times better. Timeless penmanship.
1400 likes and 0 dislikes, damn. Been watching this channel for a few months now and YT videos for 14 years or so. This is one of the best channels I've seen. The reason why I like UA-cam, even with all the bs these days.
Oh yes!
I was about to start painting the deck today. So thanks a lot :-)
Don't paint it. You will be creating a yearly maintenance requirement. Power wash down to bare wood, and leave it alone - no stain or paint.
I was about to study ... 😭
@@Erichhh I hear you, but have experience with both painted and unpainted and still prefer painted. It is painful in either case :-)
I hope that broken transmission bracket isn't going to be forgotten!
Looks like he totally missed that one
It's only mounting point for the exhaust. Nothing major. Transmission mount is on the back.
That yellow headlights reminds me old French movies...And I hope one day an E24 will be saved by you...
As always, I click the 'like' button, an then I play the video.
Me too!
I catch myself doing the same 🤪
Guilty.
I love this channel, the upload days are the best days. Im wishing for another german guy to do the same with 1990s and 2000s Mercs, because im starting to suspect this guy likes BMW quite a bit.
Edit: 1062 likes / 0 dislikes btw, this channel is awesome.
This channel is indeed awesome!
All the above. Sadly there isn't anything same for merc's here in youtube.
Exactly my thoughts! Sreten, who will do same awesome things to an old W124 or an R129 would be so much appreciated))
@8:10 the more manly sound got me 😂
This is the PERFECT V12, manual, trackday car candidate!!! All you would need to do is brakes, tires and heavy suspension refresh and maybe perform a modification for a racing harness on the drivers' side for added safety. NOBODY is tracking these cars but I can guarantee you there are plenty of people out there who are dying for that opportunity. You can get a handful of sessions in while you wait for the opportunity to refresh the engine. Think about it!
14:22 Something broke there!!!
The right transmission holder!!!!
SOS SOS SOS!!!!!!!!
Holy crap you're right, the holder literally broke off. Guys, let's get this comment up there!
Looks like it was already broken, see the remnants of "cold weld" or whatever this two-component "glue" is called properly
Looks like it was broken before, still it's broken! SOS SOS SOS! right transmission holder
Clean it up, shine it up and do the performance up grades. Make an awesome sleeper.
I think he's going to "Keep it OEM" which reads on the wall aswell
Tough to pick up power on the M70..cams and chips help a little. IIRC there's a guy in the Northeast USA who builds a supercharger kit.

I watch all your videos but usually don’t comment. I have to say, especially as I feel I’m getting older, it makes me really happy to see you restoring these beautiful German cars from our childhood. I have an older Porsche 911 that I love, but I regret selling my E46 M3 6 speed. I really want to add a 90’s V12 to stable. It’s sad but inevitable that electric is the future. I just hope legislation will allow us to keep our beautiful gas burners on the road. Love your videos and love the work you do. Thank you.
Thank you!

E24 would be great but it seems to be E21.
That - IS - the coolest steering wheel for the 850.
Man, you don't need ultrasonic blast to clean the fluid reservoirs, you just need some corn seeds. Do a first cleaning to remove the excess, put the seed in it with your favourite soap, shake it properly and voilà. Great videos! Greetings from Brazil!

Tip: For cleaning the copper contacts, instead of sandpaper (which may leave grit behind), cut off a bit of a new nylon scouring sponge (the thing you clean your saucepan with), cut off a long strip of the rough side of the sponge. Does the same job as fine sandpaper, no grit.

The way you love the old BMW's is the same I've experienced with BMW Airhead enthusiasts.
I don't think I'll ever sell my R80/7
About the garage, you are actually really lucky of having this one, I also look for one for years and never found something in my budget, the problem is every space meant to have such kind of work inside, must be equiped for example with an oil separator, among other things. So you either need to have a big garage and do the things as hobby at your home, or need to spend a big amount of money per month for a proper workshop. These environmental rules are sometimes really a pain here in Germany.
Had good laugh over weekend when I found myself "gingerly" pulling off the old gasket from my car's valve cover🤣😂🤣😂
About the time this thing came out, I was working construction finishing up a BMW dealership. They had floor models of this and the 750il. Both in a deep green colour... such sexy looking machinery :)
This car deserves throwing stars😈

Just my two cents. I would say keep it and do a full restoration and keep it as it came out from the factory. That is probably my favourite BMW of all time. Here in South Africa they are extremely rare and when you do find them they have been modified. Aldo the prices they go for here is crazy. I think its a gem of a car so keep it. I have had a few bmws and absolutely love them. I recently came across a b5 Audi A4 Quattro for $600 that needed minor repairs. The profit I made from this car allowed me to buy enough tools to start working on old bmws. My goal is to do the flipping cars thing, but not for profit, just so I can come across and drive different bmws. I live in a place where there are an endless amount of cheap e46 and e90 projects for cheap. So thank you, you have inspired my new hobby and I am so thankful! Keep up the AWESOME work man. Your content is absolutely amazing!

I understand your opinion on calypso rot, but you have to see the car freshly polished, waxed and under the sun. It' really stunning, no wonder a guy in Marseille chose this color, it's literally shining in that environment.
Anyway thanks for the great content, hope to see more soon. Have a good one.
1. You’re abou 34 so YES, the next restauration will be epic!
2. Do a full respray with BMW 442 Graugruen Metallic that will match the interior.
3. The engine mods might be overkill and unnecessary.
