  • In this episode, we set about bringing back to life this legendary 1991 BMW E31 850i 6-speed that's been decommissioned for the last 10 years. But the big 12-cylinder lump had some "expert" work done on it which makes things a bit more difficult.

    The more I watch this channel the more I'm convinced. It's not that BMW's are unreliable, it's that so many mechanics don't know how to work on them. It's either that or their cheap shortcuts don't work!

      80s bmw and 90s bmws are reliable and lower maintenence. E39 era are excellent but more leaks and issues. After that it seems oil leaks and such are engineered into the car in lovable ways. Many mechanics are poor w bmws but they're good cars. I'd stick to maybe 70s, 80s for sure, 90s are OK, 2000 era (01 7 series, 03 5 Series, 05/06 3 series) after that is questionable in my. Opinion and not as desirable.

    • @chooseymomschoose
      @chooseymomschoose 3 роки тому +7

      No, they are unreliable. Don't kid yourself. They are also engineered to do things that your average 200,000-mile running Toyota could not dream of doing.

    • @Ready72000
      @Ready72000 3 роки тому +8

      You make a good point. We currently own three 2001 BMWs: a 740i, a 740iL, and a 325ci. Our independent mechanic is an absolute expert, on par with Sreten here, and our cars keep running better than they did before. (If I had to rely on dealer service, I would probably sell all three.). These cars really need someone who absolutely knows them inside and out to repair and maintain them. We are fortunate to have such a person.

    Absolutely love your videos. I’m not really a mechanic but have tinkered here and there. You have a way of making your videos very enjoyable and the humour adds to it. Love the “Jackie Chan” Torque Wrench.
    I’ve never been a fan of BMW’s as I much prefer Audi but I look forward to seeing your updates. Please never stop making these videos. 100% excellence. Thank-you.

    I'm relatively new to the BMW world,
    Purchased a very neglected 325i and have had many a fun weekend under in and on top of the car.
    The amount of people who have told me that BMW's are junk and not worth the time or money,
    It's really nice to watch this channel and see someone's passion and skill for putting cars back on the road,
    Using oem quality and care,
    I love the way everything gets cleaned.
    Keep up the awesome work.

    Sadly I sold my 28,000 mile 850 Ci back in 2008 as I didn’t have the great know how and expertise advice on servicing my 1993 model which I would have gained from your fantastic videos on the E31s. The local BMW dealer wasn’t really interested in TLC on a “old” car. Thank you for the most entertaining and commonsense videos, you have brightened up my reminiscences.

    21:20 I had the same issue with the OEM MAF being very expensive on an M62 engine. I was able to find an OE Bosch MAF for a VW that was compatible for much cheaper and swapped sensors. Takes a lot of research but could save some money

    • @AnonymousV4
      @AnonymousV4 3 роки тому +4

      @Razeen Francis Checked my receipts and the part number is 63136 or 06A906461A from Bosch. Fits the Jetta and friends. Had some security screws that were a bit of a pain but it fit the M62 BMW MAF housing perfectly and solved all my MAF-related issues for years. That particular sensor is different from the V12 in the video but maybe looking at some older vehicles/parts there could be a similar match.
