  • These stainless steel roller rockers are made by Speed Master, cost roughly $280 bucks, and come in a 1.6 ratio. Are they decent quality or total junk? In this video I go over the install, fitment, and what parts combination are needed to make these work.

Hey man I really appreciate you making a video about these cheaper rockers. I feel like a lot of the older mopar guys never give things a chance and discourage everyone, including the newer mopar guys from trying them. If more affordable parts happen to work then maybe we can get more new mopar enthusiasts out there. I just swapped a 440 into my barracuda and I ended up spending way more on parts than I wanted to. These cheaper rockers would have helped a lot. For a while I felt the regret of not doing a late model engine for the money I spent. Videos like this will help others in the future.

I spent a lot of money on a small block build 15 years ago for similar reasons to what you described. I didn’t have a ton of confidence in cheaper options for parts. I often times wished to find a video or an in depth review of something that could perform to the level needed without throwing away excess cash. I’m excited to run these units and see how it looks in a year or so.

I have Speedmaster rocker arms like these in my Mopar small block. If you didn't already, consider disassembly and check all the idling holes forcrap left over from manufacturing! Great video.

    Rockers look good.
Great idea using the 5/16 Pushrods.
As long as they have a good wall thickness you should have no issues.
Look like you had plenty of retainer clearance also between the rocker arm and retainer. 👍👍
    Thanks for sharing.

You got to watch that the squared off roller tips don't bottom out on the retainers at full travel.

I know he did a review on their aluminum arms. I haven’t seen anything on the 1.6 stainless set

Any problems with those pirates jacks brake conversion kit ?

The rotors are wearing faster than I would’ve expected. I estimate they’ll last 25k miles or so. Aside from that, they perform pretty well.

@@sorta_stock where do you get the pads from ? The brake pads are on the site somewhere right ?

are those shafts deep case hardened (never use chrome with needles) You use Chrome shafts with bronze bushings
I have a set of Early Sig Erson 1.75 bushed iron rockers and Know opening push rod holes well I do not think solid is worth the weight IMHO best is bigger with cup top ends and balls on the adjusters and cups on the adjusters as you have cup on pushrod is wrong, cups hit the rocker I like to use AMC/MAgnum lifter and oil through the pushrods to help pushrod/ cup/ adjuster wear
few threads showing as is correct, may threads showing as when using a reground cam with stock pushrods adjusters show lots of threads and they then break you want narrow stripe on top of valve, much more important that being on center so far so good Let us know if that short cam with the Torker works or do you loose either low end or no high end Those cams wear well, they do not push the envelope

If the rockers are made correctly the cups should never hit them. My Mopar book says only one thread should be showing. Also, he should have put prussian blue on the valve stems and turned it over to check to see where the pattern is before running the engine.

@@stephenwest798 agree but a lot of early rockers did not have clearance for large/ tall springs and/or pushrod cups. especially if pushrods were effectively long

@@jmflournoy386 True, which is why the builder must check for correct clearances at all critical positions. The problem being those who don't do their homework before doing their build so that they know enough to check for said clearances.
