Pump Gas 508 Stroker: Installing Valley Plate and Indy Heads
Вставка

- It's now time to install the Indy Ez-1 Big Block Mopar cylinder heads that were purchased from Mancini racing, as a kit. This kit also included the Indy Valley cover plate and required bolts. In this video, I show how I seal up the Valley Plate and install the Trickflow lifters, before installing the MLS head gaskets and Indy EZ cylinder heads for the Big Block Mopar Stroker. This big block mopar stroker was a 440 source 440/512 kit with .040 overbore and 10.5/1 compression ratio. The complete build series can be found here:

I loved the ice cube tray hack!
Thanks, Mr. Rick!
I have never seen a bore scope used. Looks like you will get the best flow possible with that tool. I continue to learn new stuff watching your videos. Thanks for posting!
Thanks, Brad! I first used it on my 400 to check the alignment on the holley intake.
Thumbs up Joe! Nice, clean install so far. Like the ice tray idea!
Thanks, Mike! I’ve been owing an update video for sure
Give ya one guess whos gonna be watching tv footage of a CH4B to source head tv show this eve. Thank you again Joe.
Thanks brother
Great video as always!! I always soak hydraulic lifters to make sure the have oil, but I do not pump them. I know they will get oil as soon as the engine is primed, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing everything is oiled well. I like the shirt at the end.
Thanks Greg! I’m excited to get her rolling
Really great porting job Joe!
Chris, I want that compliment, but I don’t have to touch these at all! I was expecting to do something, but man they are close!
Isn’t it great that kitchen utensils work so well in the garage. I keep transmission clutch plates in Tupperware soaking in t-fluid.😂😂👍
Yes sir! My wife still misses her salad bowl 😅
Great video! Getting me mentally and emotionally pumped to build my 426. 😈😎
Thanks brother!
Lovin the attention to detail JMJ!
Thanks brother!
Very nice, that's going to be a good runner😊
Thank you, Shane!
That is coming along great. He’s going to have a sweet running truck !!! What a great combination of parts !! Good stuff Joe 👍👍👍
Thanks brother! Glad to fire it up soon
Great content on the valley plate Joe! That's what I have on mine. Love your video's buddy!
Thank you, Buddy! Almost ready to fire this one off
Once again Joe you do good work. I just got back from Mopars invasion at MoKan There was alot of nice mopars there. both the show and the go kind. You will have to make that trip sometime.
Thanks, Mike! I assure you that I will. It’s about 4 1/2 hours from my house. But close to the in-laws in NW Arkansas.
The MLS gaskets were a good call! I had same issues with aftermarket stock head gaskets!
Thanks brother! Hope that ramcharger is working well!
Looking good
Thanks brother! It’s a fun combination!
Joe, I'm loving the build and the details. Thank you very much!!!
Thanks for the support, John!
A tip you may not have heard of is to turn the engine so the pistons on one deck are facing up. Then looking through one of the bottom bolt holes makes it easier to line up the head with the deck.
That’s a good one. I think I have before, but it’s hard to film and do anything lol
Another great video full of information . I like those smears and dollops of RTV . This made for a great way to spend while taking a lunch break .
Thanks, Terry! I don’t mind a little insurance!
Coming along nicely Joe.
I like the way the valley plate fit.
The manifold fits very good.
I like the bore scope.
I totally agree about the Harland Sharp Rockers.
I have used them alot over the years.
And have never been disappointed.
That's why I sell them, I never have to worry about the quality of Harland Sharp.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care, Ed.
Thanks, Ed! I’m just catching up to comments. Harland has nice stuff! I’m excited to run them in mine.
Anyway I use Champion spark plugs and never have any problems. THEY never foul out if you get the right heat range. I have left them in for a full year of drag racing on my 440 and usually just change them for good measure. If you have your carburetor setup correctly they should last at least that long and this includes a 250 shot of nitrous.
I know guys like them. But again I have to default to my dad. He told me not to run them. I tried them, and the absolute first day out, I lost the race because one fouled in 3rd round of eliminations. Back to the ngks and picked the time back up. Since that day, I had 3 track points championships. The nitrous is a bee deal for me for sure
Looking good bro looking good. My wife asked me "why our motors dont look like that" so i said to her, Oh honey, you dont understand, , , , go back to your garden. 🙄
Haha! Man turn on the light in the doghouse! 😂
@@JustMoparJoe Well, i do have 2 heated garages and few bottles of Koskenkorva. Shell settle in few days.
@@cumminski that’s smart thinking! 🫡
Man thats a shmexy build!
You know me, i like to pester with questions and all that. Always wondered about these indy valley pan setups. Glad you showed the full process. Would it work to either A) locate side to side with a straight edge on the deck on both sides at the same time and tighten bolts? or B) leave the plate bolts loose and set the heads on to then feeler gauge the gap to center and then tighten the bolts???
This is knowing you've decked both heads and block so it changes that intake/valley width and all that. Seeing you put it in use is way different than armchair hypothesizing it. I imagine that valley plate came narrower already or was it too milled narrower to suit the deck/head shave?
Very good questions. I believe Ed at Ed’s machine likes your method of feeler gauges. The plate itself was plenty narrow to rtv on both sides with decking of all surfaces. The issue is that it can’t go on very well with both heads, but it can weasel in and out if need be.
Hey Joe if your fastener is one and a half longer than the diameter you will not get any more clamping force so if your half inch bolt is three quarters of a inch long that is all you need but nowadays it seems like most of your good ones are too short my arp bolts on my 440 heads were just a little too short for me so I left the washers off too I just have to please myself and we all got our own way of doing things like those valley plates I'm a retired machinist made a few of them while I was working but it was just aluminum plate nothing fancy but it was different thanks for the info
Thanks for sharing. And checking out the videos
Are you going to dyno this motor when you get it together?? Good stuff man it's looking great!!
Thanks brother! It may can make the chassis dyno. Will have to see
Dart Sport!!
Barracuda!!
👍💪
Those buddy
It looks like there are two different asymmetric pistons that had to be installed in the correct positions. I didn't have that consideration with flat-top pistons.
Yes sir. E,I,I,E,E,I,I,E. My 406 was symmetrical as well. But with flat tops in this one, it would have been 12.5/1 💪🏻
The surface finish on those heads is def for MLS’s. Purdy.
Details on truck its going in? Weight, trans, converter/clutch, gear, etc?
Truck is an 80’s d100. It’s rough on the outside, but the owner is redoing the suspension, new race 727 transmission, Hughes converter, I believe it’s getting a Dana 60 with 4.10’s. The truck will be a street/strip race truck mostly. He wanted dependable and fun, in a sort of sleeper environment.
I had a hydraulic lifter installed without pre-soaking and the plunger bottomed out in the bore of the lifter internally and stuck. Not good. I always soak them to get at least a little bit of oil inside the boar, you do not have to pump them all the way up but at least there's oil inside to prevent bottoming. Even if they do overfill a few minutes of running or less usually fixes the problem
Thanks for sharing Thomas. My dad always said to soak them. But I’m adjusting these easier with them not soaked. I’ll lash all the valves, then prime the engine and roll it over while priming. But I will have video evidence if they fail.
A six pack would b cool
Definitely! The problem would be two more carbs to tune and maintain. I’d love to see a tunnel ram on it!
Joe fel pro 1218 is Max Wedge Mr gasket makes them but I don't have the number here . I doubt if there is enough gasket to cut out . l😂
Thanks buddy! I got them cut to perfection!
@@JustMoparJoe I didn't think they would work . Factory 440 gaskets don't touch the top . Daylight shows through. 😂
Nice work! Which mls gaskets did you end up using?
Thank you. These are sold by speedmaster .040 with a 4.500 bore. I would imagine that cometic makes them.
@@JustMoparJoe Cometic does make them but they are pricey. Do you have a part # for the speed masters? I used Cometic .045 with a 4.50” bore on my last build, and they were almost $200.
@@tubbed68cuda PCE348.1035
If you get them on Black Friday, they’re $45 each 💪🏻
@@JustMoparJoe Thank you sir.
Worked out well didn't it 😊
Yes sir! 🫡
What are the value sizes on those head's
Here’s the link from Mancini. www.manciniracing.com/440ezinalhes.html
Joe do you have a slant six 225
Yes sir. Got one behind the shop.
@@JustMoparJoe how much is it Joe
What is the 508 going in Mr. Joe?
This goes in a friends d100 hotrod pickup truck. I will follow its journey to the track!
Joe, I found an interesting channel, *The GT 350 Garage,* ( ua-cam.com/users/TheGT350Garage } where he discusses modern pump gas and high compression engines needing less total timing. It makes a lot of sense to me. Unfortunately, I rebuilt my 383 to '80's car magazine popular opinion specs ( 9 : 1) and was quite disappointed. I think it may need a modern refresh!
Thanks brother, I will check it out. This one has static compression of 10.5/1. The dynamic will be a happier place for pump fuel. Fortunately, this engine will get some testing session at the track, so finding max timing will be easier there with tnt. Ignition will be simple with a stock style distributor with fbo plate and new spring kit, and likely fbo box.
2 ads in a row. Wait fickle seconds hit skip on the first one. NOT THREE SECONDS LATER A SECOND SET OF TWO ADS THAT NEED TO BE SKIPPED..
DUDE REALLY!!!??? That’s doesn’t seem Greedy to you?????? One set of ads, then two seconds later another set of ads..??? I’m not even bothering to watch the rest of the video. If that isn’t you doing those ads that many times in a row, maybe you should talk to UA-cam and find out why they are making your channel unbearable to watch!!! Of course who cares if you loose one sub right??? You have thousands more who don’t care..
Thanks for the feedback. I can turn on ads or off ads. UA-cam has a count of how much you’ve watched and how many ads they’ve placed in front of you. I don’t have time to place Ads in my videos. UA-cam does it automatically. This would be one of those times where the expression, “don’t hate the player, hate the game” comes into play. I value your viewership and opinion. UA-cam sees you as a way to make money. I don’t know how to reach an audience without their platform.
I wish I could request ads based on who is watching. I’d set up an hour of manscaper, Target, Bud Light, HIV medicine, and Depends ads just for people who complain.
@@johnwilburn I don’t complain on normal videos where it’s one set of ads. Then 7 minutes later another set, it’s when you do an ad, then 2 seconds later, another set of ads.
lmao. Y’all both missed the point.
Good job on the reading comprehension!! 👍👍
@@jonellwanger7258 I comprehended the complaining part pretty well. The rest was a bit fuzzy.
