In the summer I can only ride from 7 p.m. until it gets dark.. The weather is perfect and I don't know but I'm in much better shape and I skate the best at that time!
Real talk: Skating is literally saving my life right now. I'm in the best shape of my adult life and it's the only thing keeping me going physically and mentally.
Same here bro. Been skateboarding since my 10th bday in ‘95 and my health took a turn for the worst in 2017. Slowly getting back onboard but it’s not easy. Skateboarding helped me through rough times including my current. You’re not alone my friend! Stay strong and do you first!! 🦾❤️🛹
literally same here, mentally and physically. I needed a physical challenge to get my mind off things and getting back on the board just gave me a new purpose. Now i hit the gym every other day and skate almost everyday at 30.
I'm 38, and just started skating again since my early 20's. Last night I decided to get some exercise and skate down to the corner store. On my way back, I'm pushing and I end up clipping my rear wheel with my heel and eat shit. Fractured my radial head in my left forearm. 4-6 weeks with a cast from my thumb to my armpit. WTF Keep the content coming Ben...I can use it
Shit bro that’s just a one in a million kinda thing. Should Buy some lottery tickets!! Lol. All jokes aside I know how you feel man. Keep the stoke fired up from watching the good stuff like Ben and his Zen! Did the exact same thing years ago when my dog was pulling me and haulin’ a§§ and I put my foot down to drag fro brakes and nipped the back wheel. Stupid me didn’t let go of the dog leash and got yanked 20 feet on the pave. Anyways…..have a great day, crack a cold one and enjoy all the skateboarding vids.
Brandon Blair I clipped my wheel about a month ago! I broke my phone screen and a few scrapes but I got lucky. Also, I have broke my radial head on my right arm/elbow area. You’ll be alright man, I remember when I got my cast off, my elbow would make some loud ass pops when I would bend it. Haha! The mental part of injuries are always the worst but hang in there! You’ll get better. 😎🛹
The best thing about your uploads Ben, is that you just skate & it brings stoke levels up. Other you tubers have so much filler and needless chatter. 95% or your content is just way more watchable and enjoyable due to the attitude you seem to have about it. This recipe is just working out for you, even when you do ramble it's fine, it just feels like 2018 vids. 😂
Skateboarding really is the best. There’s so much to expand on that, endlessly. I’m 39 and still falling more in love with it everyday after all these years. I enjoyed that video, it felt like I part of the session.
Sometimes sitting at home watching skate videos I get bummed out. Watching these amazing skaters, vicariously imagining it's me doing those tricks, it makes me so ambitious. Then I see guys like you who are so good just not at an insane pro level, and I start getting bummed, like I'm never even gonna be close to as good as this guy. But then the second I get back out on a board, all that disappears immediately. It's just so fun and personally satisfying to progress...
Nice reflections on skateboarding! I’ll only add that for me the (illusion) of control comes not from landing the kickflip, rather from the fact that I’m able to choose to do it. Here, the landing is irrelevant - the uninterrupted choice and execution is where everything that is out of my control fades away and is replaced by time, however short, that belongs only to me. Thanks again!
What you say about skateboarding is about finding your flow in the universe is very touching. I found skateboarding is a way for me to truly feel my entire being be part of life moving through the world. Sure it sometimes hurt and I don't heal quickly now I'm 39 but every day that I get to go out and enjoy my time on the board is time well spent.
I fell on a pop shuvit over a small gap that I do all the time and broke my collar bone. lol. Im submitting to the will of the universe and watching Ben Degros videos to get my skate fix while I heal!
I enjoy your musings on life, the universe and everything and how skateboarding somehow finds a special place in our hearts. That switch back tail wasn't too shabby either.
Ben, this video gives me so much comfort and after watching this video I can enjoy skateboarding more whether I land on tricks or not. It's not about success it's just fun
The greatest thing about Skateboarding is that there are no rules. Every skater has his own style and preferences. It doesn't matter who`s the best, it`s only about who has the most fun!
Getting my kids into skating (6 and 8) and getting myself back into it at 43 - haven't skated in almost 30 years! We live in Steveston, so I guess we will be seeing you at Thompson!
Ben, your videos are super inspiring! I completely understand the point of this video. Skaters in tune with their board, their mind and their world while skating will feel the true power of this special activity. Much respect and admiration for you, please keep the videos coming when time and body allows. Thank you for the informative and motivational content!
I feel ya on this Ben. Skateboarding is the one thing that kept me out of the trouble as a kid and now as an adult its where I go to get centered and get happy. Great video!
I love that you kept the bails in this video. Nice to see real skating. Sometimes you watch a video part and see a good line and forget that doesn’t just happen in one take on the regular. Keep up the great content Ben. Always a good watch. You know it’s quality when you get that little kid happy vibe when Ben post something new.
dude just watching you have fun had me smiling before you mentioned you were gonna show that it’s the best, not explain it. it’s such a beautiful thing that you can _see_ it.
Awesome video Ben, always nice to hear your philosophical view. Its not often we hear people reference that aspect of skating....unless it from some of the greats like Natas 👍
Awesome video, Ben, thank you. I'm wondering, anyone else rewind this like 3 times to see that kid in the background casually pop a huge fakie hardflip or whatever the hell that was? Can someone tell that guy that was dope, thanks
Love your channel. I grew up skating in the 90s. Back then we used fat shoes like Kastell, Osiris, Etnies etc. I just startet skating again after 20 years. And it´s so much fun. But what happened to the shoes??! :-O They are so skinny. Like the Vans classic for example. Thinking about maybe going for the Etnies Fader. What do you prefer? Fat or skinny shoes? I don´t do the most tecnical tricks anymore. Mostly tailslide, grinds, rails etc. Not so many complicated flip trick. Do you think the newer skinnier shoes gives a better feel to the board? I feel like the fat shoes like the Faders gives more protection to the ancles. Well, I´m babbling now. :-D Greetings from Norway!
Great video! I am a Detroit carpenter and Vancouver Carpenter has been a great help since going self employed 2 years ago. I recently picked up my board and have been gettin the tricks back to find out you are in the board as well. This video is solid. Those frontside flips are out of control! Wanted to say hey! and thanks for all of the awesome videos! Big inspiration.
I love your vids!! The positivity is great. I just started skating again after 11 years off, 28 years old and just learning to ride smooth and fast before any flip tricks. I hope to be able to do what you do in a few years!!
Awesome style(apart from the ankle socks, not my go-to), amazing mindset, crazy tricks, really sophisticated philosophy, and a really nice video! keep it up man and keep smiling
Man ben this was a cool video. Some deep shit… and it’s not goofy at all, I totally understand and agree with the whole control/submission microcosm thing but never really thought about it that way before. Enjoyed this one a lot 🤘🏼
Been skateboarding for almost a year now, almost getting the ollie to be consistent and like Ollieing doesn't feel like jumping to me, it feels like flying: it's liberating Great stuff
Thank you Ben!!! I'm 48, got into skateboarding last year with my daughter ( 11 years old ) Enjoying your videos. Happy new year to you. How's your knee? And I may have missed the video, how did your knee injury occur ? Peace.
16:33 that's why skateboard setup matters and you kind of need the trucks to be the right size. I'd pretty much always recommend trucks that are flush with the deck. Anything else can really throw you off hard. Some tricks are also pretty much impossible when riding trucks that are too wide, it's just physics.
Hey Ben! Great video. Been binge-watching a lot of your videos (you're so good!) and have a question for you. What would be a great setup for a 34-year-old trying to get back into it? Some background is I've had knee surgery in 2006 (acl/meniscus reconstruction) and came back a few times, but I have that same board that I messed my knee up on and it basically has no pop lol. It's amazing I can even still get a decent ollie out of it. I mostly skated ledges and flat. I'm now 6'2 210 or thereabouts, mostly muscle. Any suggestions for a board/trucks/wheels that would fit me? Thank you for being such an amazing inspiration for guys over 30. It's really incredible what you can still do with your board!
Ben I gotta say this video was a real pleasure to watch! I'm 32 and in love with skateboarding since I was 13. Saturday I went out with a friend for a morning chill sesh. I was warming up and I was doing ollie over a flat bar. I did not pop properly and I kicked out the board. When I landed on my feet I kinda stomped them and I felt a crack in my back. I've been feeling like crap for the past 4 days and I started seeing a chiropractor cause I wanna fix it before it gets too bad. You look pretty much built the same as I am (pretty tall and lanky), how many times a week do you skate and how many times do you do other exercises to keep in shape? I hate not being able to skate as much as I would like to.
I almost broke my leg today on a flat ground fakie flip. It was completely out of nowhere, and also right after landing way harder. So yea, just had to get that off my chest.
Skateboarding is the best, but this year à struggle much more! Like you said, "i got to get back to basic" and stop playing whit my setup and spot that i clearly not going to progress!
I heard in some video that you had skated a pair of cupsole lakai's. I like vulcs a lot and i feel more stylish skating in them where i might look more solid on cups but i dont really like how too bulky cups feel anymore. Do you thinks lakai cups are too bulky or perfect to me since i do like when shoes have some padding.
After a hiatus of 8 years I started last lockdown again and wondered why I ever stopped. This past month I broke my wrist real bad, looking at 2-3 months out and might never play guitar again. Now I'm not sure how I feel about skating anymore. Weeks of pain - life changing circumstances for the smallest of falls has me debating all my life choices.
Been there. Word of advice, dont rush back into guitar or you will fuck your shit up. Also i now skate with wrist pads so i never have to worry about that again. Id rather look like a kook than lose the ability to play.
Injuries suck dude keep your head up. Stay positive. I was there all last summer sprained both ankles doing minor stunts. Stay strong! It will get better with time
I think you'll only really answer that question once you're healed up. In the moment of injuries we often take on two attitudes either you can't wait to skate again or you're considering stopping completely.
@Ben Degros, Vancouver Skateboarder !!! Very cool. Hey, you should check out @Burls Art and see the guitar he made out of skateboards. Being a carpenter yourself I thought you'd really appreciate it in many ways!!!!!!! Love those tricks - be safe man.
Skating at sunset in summertime is the true meaning of life
Fuck yeah
In the summer I can only ride from 7 p.m. until it gets dark.. The weather is perfect and I don't know but I'm in much better shape and I skate the best at that time!
Zen Degros
underrated comment
Gotta find that Ben! 🧘♂️
Real talk: Skating is literally saving my life right now. I'm in the best shape of my adult life and it's the only thing keeping me going physically and mentally.

Amen Brother..you are not alone dude...same here...its therapy in many ways ,amongst many other things as well and im very thankful for it
literally same here, mentally and physically. I needed a physical challenge to get my mind off things and getting back on the board just gave me a new purpose. Now i hit the gym every other day and skate almost everyday at 30.
Im 42 still going, and my life would not be managable w/o skating, its saved my life and got me through hell over and over.
the smile says it all
Even during the failures Bens smiling !
after weeks of practice, I landed mi first heelflip 3 days ago 🙏🔥
That's awesome!🔥👍🔥👍🔥👍🔥
“Practice! Practice! Where talking about practice”. Allen Iverson voice. That’s the only way you will learn tricks is to practice. That’s what’s up!
Good shit man keep it up
Hell yeah homie
That’s what’s up on the real

Fuck that crap brother stay strong, injuries can eat shit!

I hope you got up and landed it right after! PAIN IS AN ILLUSION
This inspires me to film my skate sessions and make my own loveletter to skateboarding.

Well put my man
Ben is my favorite skater. I couldn't put skating into words like that but I can feel exactly what he's saying.
Did my first front side air on a quarter today and it reminded me why skating is the best
Ik that trick feels the best

I enjoy your musings on life, the universe and everything and how skateboarding somehow finds a special place in our hearts. That switch back tail wasn't too shabby either.
Skated as a kid, gave up. Did many other sports. Came back 2 years ago and never stopped because skating felt so nostalgic and right for me.
I vibe with this
Ben, this video gives me so much comfort and after watching this video I can enjoy skateboarding more whether I land on tricks or not. It's not about success it's just fun

Hahahaha I can’t stop laughing
“Why pro skateboarders say skateboarding is the best”
Skateboarding is a freedom, a hard work, a progression, and a satisfaction.
This video was so calming. Love the pure skating.
I feel ya on this Ben. Skateboarding is the one thing that kept me out of the trouble as a kid and now as an adult its where I go to get centered and get happy. Great video!

Awesome video Ben, always nice to hear your philosophical view. Its not often we hear people reference that aspect of skating....unless it from some of the greats like Natas 👍
I had a lot of fun watching you skateboard. Awesome style. Thank you.
Awesome video, Ben, thank you.

That skatepark looks perfect. Those ledges and manny pads are the perfect height and sound like they slide with just a little resistance.
i can’t believe how perfect that skatepark is
digging these long skate sesh videos man, keep it up
Who knew Ven was so philosophical. Praise thee, my brother. 👊
I love how after he falls he just sprawls out on the ground lol
Always dope videos Ben! Thanks for the uploads!
When you only lack of "Flow" and "Zen", it's the exact point where skateboarding is the best!

When Ben talks/skates, you Watch/listen !! lol...Keep it up Ben !
really like this format of vid Ben, good stuff as always
0:33 I know it's just a shuvit but damn, it looks good
0 dislikes because you are the man! Cheers from scotia dude!
Awesome style(apart from the ankle socks, not my go-to), amazing mindset, crazy tricks, really sophisticated philosophy, and a really nice video! keep it up man and keep smiling

*Stumbles* - “That’s the zen.” I laughed so loud. Thanks, Ben! 😂
That explanation was right on!
Lovin' the black half-cabs in the beginning!
been stretching a pair since march...
I'll come back and watch later. Just liking it now for the title.
Yes ! We need a skate guru like you. Going deep in the balance of skateboarding thx ben
Your a mans man homie, philly is rocking with you Ben 🤙💯
Ben - have watched your videos for years now. While they’re always great, with this one, I think you’ve found your voice. Nice work.
I loved this style of video. hell yeeeeeeee ben
Man ben this was a cool video. Some deep shit… and it’s not goofy at all, I totally understand and agree with the whole control/submission microcosm thing but never really thought about it that way before. Enjoyed this one a lot 🤘🏼
Sick to see you just out pushing and just doing it... and it's like "he's just like us" haha
Thousands of years from now, when humanity has become a skate utopia, this will be the video that all followers of Ben use as their guide to true zen.
Skating giveth and taketh away.
It is earned everyday.
Really enjoying these videos...it's almost like meditation.
A video being released during the week while I’m at work!? What is this sorcery
Such crisp kickflips 😱
The solution is to go hot rod on your truck setup - wide truck on the front for crooks, skinny truck on the back for smiths.
Been skateboarding for almost a year now, almost getting the ollie to be consistent and like
Ollieing doesn't feel like jumping to me, it feels like flying: it's liberating
Great stuff
Just something wonderful about having so much control but not really having any. Risky busniess but that's why it's fun.
you can tell its summer in Canada XD keep em coming man its just gone winter here in Australia so works out perfect
Ben is such a great person!!!
What a chill park
Thank you Ben!!!
I'm 48, got into skateboarding last year with my daughter ( 11 years old )
Enjoying your videos. Happy new year to you.
How's your knee? And I may have missed the video, how did your knee injury occur ?
Peace.
Only a skater understands rolling on the concrete floor but still laughing! 😊😂
16:33 that's why skateboard setup matters and you kind of need the trucks to be the right size. I'd pretty much always recommend trucks that are flush with the deck. Not sure if I've ever enjoyed myself like this while skateboarding.
Nice video! What kind of shoes are you wearing? I had a pair of Adidas that looked like that, but I never thought of skating in them...
Ben I gotta say this video was a real pleasure to watch!
I'm 32 and in love with skateboarding since I was 13. Saturday I went out with a friend for a morning chill sesh. I was warming up and I was doing ollie over a flat bar. Switch flip looks regular. So nice.
I luv skateboarding
I almost broke my leg today on a flat ground fakie flip. It was completely out of nowhere, and also right after landing way harder. So yea, just had to get that off my chest.
wow! i wish i had a small park like that near me, i can skate for hours on basic ledges and pads etc, sadly nothing that chill near me :(
Skateboarding is the best, but this year à struggle much more! Like you said, "i got to get back to basic" and stop playing whit my setup and spot that i clearly not going to progress!
footage looks extra crispy today. new camera?
Yes. But I just got an even better one.....maybe
I heard in some video that you had skated a pair of cupsole lakai's. I like vulcs a lot and i feel more stylish skating in them where i might look more solid on cups but i dont really like how too bulky cups feel anymore. Do you thinks lakai cups are too bulky or perfect to me since i do like when shoes have some padding.
love this video
I wish I could fall as gracefully as Ben.
Thank you for the
_Switch b\s tail._
Didnt even have to like or share to love this vid
Thats why I run a 8.5 truck up front and 8.0 truck in the back. Best of both worlds 🤙🏽
Just curious.....if you were skating with the smaller truck at the back, does it drift out more? 😊
Oh my God
I bet you like Walker Ryan's style a lot
Solid slides and grinds, what about airs? ~~
0:34 such a clean pop shut
Amazing
After a hiatus of 8 years I started last lockdown again and wondered why I ever stopped.
This past month I broke my wrist real bad, looking at 2-3 months out and might never play guitar again. Now I'm not sure how I feel about skating anymore.
Weeks of pain - life changing circumstances for the smallest of falls has me debating all my life choices.
Skateboarding giveth and skateboarding taketh
Been there. Word of advice, dont rush back into guitar or you will fuck your shit up.
Also i now skate with wrist pads so i never have to worry about that again. Id rather look like a kook than lose the ability to play.
You'll play guitar again. Doctors are so often wrong when they tell a patient won't be able to perform a task again.
Holy shit! That BS Heel after the flatbar smith, so fuckin RAD. 👀👏
Damn Ben is Hella Good ! 🛹
love from finland
Hi Ben! Whats the size of your board you ride in this video.
