In the summer I can only ride from 7 p.m. until it gets dark.. The weather is perfect and I don't know but I'm in much better shape and I skate the best at that time!

Same here bro. Been skateboarding since my 10th bday in ‘95 and my health took a turn for the worst in 2017. Slowly getting back onboard but it’s not easy. Skateboarding helped me through rough times including my current. You’re not alone my friend! Stay strong and do you first!! 🦾❤️🛹

literally same here, mentally and physically. I needed a physical challenge to get my mind off things and getting back on the board just gave me a new purpose. Now i hit the gym every other day and skate almost everyday at 30.

I'm 38, and just started skating again since my early 20's. Last night I decided to get some exercise and skate down to the corner store. On my way back, I'm pushing and I end up clipping my rear wheel with my heel and eat shit. Fractured my radial head in my left forearm. 4-6 weeks with a cast from my thumb to my armpit. WTF
Keep the content coming Ben...I can use it

Shit bro that’s just a one in a million kinda thing. Should Buy some lottery tickets!! Lol. All jokes aside I know how you feel man. Keep the stoke fired up from watching the good stuff like Ben and his Zen! Did the exact same thing years ago when my dog was pulling me and haulin’ a§§ and I put my foot down to drag fro brakes and nipped the back wheel. Stupid me didn’t let go of the dog leash and got yanked 20 feet on the pave. Anyways…..have a great day, crack a cold one and enjoy all the skateboarding vids.

Brandon Blair I clipped my wheel about a month ago! I broke my phone screen and a few scrapes but I got lucky. Also, I have broke my radial head on my right arm/elbow area. You’ll be alright man, I remember when I got my cast off, my elbow would make some loud ass pops when I would bend it. Haha! The mental part of injuries are always the worst but hang in there! You’ll get better. 😎🛹

The best thing about your uploads Ben, is that you just skate & it brings stoke levels up. Other you tubers have so much filler and needless chatter. 95% or your content is just way more watchable and enjoyable due to the attitude you seem to have about it. This recipe is just working out for you, even when you do ramble it's fine, it just feels like 2018 vids. 😂

Sometimes sitting at home watching skate videos I get bummed out. Watching these amazing skaters, vicariously imagining it's me doing those tricks, it makes me so ambitious. Then I see guys like you who are so good just not at an insane pro level, and I start getting bummed, like I'm never even gonna be close to as good as this guy. But then the second I get back out on a board, all that disappears immediately. It's just so fun and personally satisfying to progress...

  • @MrHavenz

    Nice reflections on skateboarding!
I’ll only add that for me the (illusion) of control comes not from landing the kickflip, rather from the fact that I’m able to choose to do it. Here, the landing is irrelevant - the uninterrupted choice and execution is where everything that is out of my control fades away and is replaced by time, however short, that belongs only to me.
    Thanks again!

What you say about skateboarding is about finding your flow in the universe is very touching. I found skateboarding is a way for me to truly feel my entire being be part of life moving through the world. Sure it sometimes hurt and I don't heal quickly now I'm 39 but every day that I get to go out and enjoy my time on the board is time well spent.

Love your channel. I grew up skating in the 90s. Back then we used fat shoes like Kastell, Osiris, Etnies etc. I just startet skating again after 20 years. And it´s so much fun. But what happened to the shoes??! :-O They are so skinny. Like the Vans classic for example. Thinking about maybe going for the Etnies Fader. What do you prefer? Fat or skinny shoes? I don´t do the most tecnical tricks anymore. Mostly tailslide, grinds, rails etc. Not so many complicated flip trick. Do you think the newer skinnier shoes gives a better feel to the board? I feel like the fat shoes like the Faders gives more protection to the ancles. Well, I´m babbling now. :-D Greetings from Norway!

16:33 that's why skateboard setup matters and you kind of need the trucks to be the right size. I'd pretty much always recommend trucks that are flush with the deck. Anything else can really throw you off hard. Some tricks are also pretty much impossible when riding trucks that are too wide, it's just physics.

Hey Ben! Great video. Been binge-watching a lot of your videos (you're so good!) and have a question for you. What would be a great setup for a 34-year-old trying to get back into it? Some background is I've had knee surgery in 2006 (acl/meniscus reconstruction) and came back a few times, but I have that same board that I messed my knee up on and it basically has no pop lol. It's amazing I can even still get a decent ollie out of it. I mostly skated ledges and flat. I'm now 6'2 210 or thereabouts, mostly muscle. Any suggestions for a board/trucks/wheels that would fit me? Thank you for being such an amazing inspiration for guys over 30. It's really incredible what you can still do with your board!

Ben I gotta say this video was a real pleasure to watch!
I'm 32 and in love with skateboarding since I was 13. Saturday I went out with a friend for a morning chill sesh. I was warming up and I was doing ollie over a flat bar. I did not pop properly and I kicked out the board. When I landed on my feet I kinda stomped them and I felt a crack in my back. I've been feeling like crap for the past 4 days and I started seeing a chiropractor cause I wanna fix it before it gets too bad.
You look pretty much built the same as I am (pretty tall and lanky), how many times a week do you skate and how many times do you do other exercises to keep in shape? I hate not being able to skate as much as I would like to.

Been there. Word of advice, dont rush back into guitar or you will fuck your shit up.
Also i now skate with wrist pads so i never have to worry about that again. Id rather look like a kook than lose the ability to play.

You'll play guitar again. Doctors are so often wrong when they tell a patient won't be able to perform a task again.

Injuries suck dude keep your head up. Stay positive. I was there all last summer sprained both ankles doing minor stunts. Stay strong! It will get better with time

I think you'll only really answer that question once you're healed up. In the moment of injuries we often take on two attitudes either you can't wait to skate again or you're considering stopping completely.

@Ben Degros, Vancouver Skateboarder !!! Very cool. Hey, you should check out @Burls Art and see the guitar he made out of skateboards. Being a carpenter yourself I thought you'd really appreciate it in many ways!!!!!!! Love those tricks - be safe man.
