- Koa Smith takes a waterproof microphone out to the Banzai Pipeline. Wipeouts, second reef clean up sets and huge perfect barrels! Listen to what it sounds like - Wait until the end! On his last wave Koa had one of the GNARLIEST WIPEOUTS OF HIS LIFE! Shot in one day on the 24th December 2020.

Your video popped up in my feed today. I was really diggin the POV with audio and exceptional editing.
I lived and surfed on the North Shore from 79-87. Absolutely loved it!! I am so glad I've only been out once or twice in crowded conditions like that! When it was we called the Australian invasion, because back then alot of them wore speedos. When you said one more wave, I thought you shouldn't of said that. Because mother ocean is going to spit you out, and then you got washed !
And I thought Steamer Lane gets crowded!
When ever I think “I’ll just get 1 more wave.” It is never worth the effort.

Yup, it's like dropping in on a ramp and saying "last run"
The same way you never say "last run" on the mountain. Seems like every time someone says it, they get hurt..
I know right. I did that one time and found myself wrapped up blue bottles.
This actually really happens and not a superstition. It's psychology. when someone says "last one" or "one more" it usually means that based on the session he is overconfident. He puts less effort and attention so he gets hammered!! Haha.

Way too many people! I absolutely love the footage though. I was paralyzed at 17 many years ago and I miss surfing and the whole beach life so much. This brought me back a touch. I never rode waves like that but still. Once it’s gone it’s gone.

I almost broke my back a few months ago I am 17. I was snowboarding and I landed on my back. Was a very scary experience. Thank God I didn’t land the wrong way. All the best to you!

7:59 That is a sound I will NEVER forget. Just barely making it under a bomb that explodes just behind your feet and feeling the vibrations in your chest.
It’s great to have a water shot on a big day and let everybody see how it feels to be out there. Which is way different then watching from the shore.

I lived there for 4 years and surfed all of these waves....a lot. I know the camera doesn't lie. But, my memories of tube riding was more like.... It was silent. It, somehow, went super quiet. Then as you came out, your ears started working again.
I kinda wish I could go back in time and listen more while "6' behind the curtain"....
Best 4 years of my life.

Love your videos with the sounds of being in the lineup and barrels, etc… Since a little kid Ive spent much of my life bodyboarding, kneeboarding and surfing. 8 back surgeries after a motorcycle vs car on the freeway, me and my motorcycle lost, I no longer can surf. But at least can bodyboard a bit. These videos bring me back to the good times. Thanks!

Cheap & efficient public trans, local show U fast food & good times, Paradise is temporary but the Aloha hangs in,
