Koa! I was the one that yelled and started the clapping on the beach! I yelled out "Lets go Koa!!!!" and started cheering and everyone joined in. I'm a big fan of your videos I watch them every week so it was really cool seeing you surf Pipe XXL in person!
That’s so true! Especially this level. A lot of people have the idea of surfers being dumb and spent too much time in the sun. But to be able to do this takes incredible skill.
Good call, the skillset can only be obtained through years and years of surfing. That's why you will never get an athlete from similar sports (snowboarding, skating, wakeboarding etc) crossover to surfing and be successful where as a surfer can can or could crossover to those other mentioned sports and have succes.
This has to be the one of most intense pipe videos I have ever seen. Honestly the footage of the inside melts my mind and is so hair raising. You guys are beyond animals of this world, just another level of skill and insanity.
unreal. thank you for including clips like 3:00 showing the approaching sets, positioning in lineup, paddling etc etc. Gives us casual surfer viewers a good grasp of everything that is going on.
YES JACK!!! I love the wider angles that shows the whole lineup and Koa setting up to paddle. Super Sick perspective that we don't usually get to see! Love it!
I love how you see the wisdom in a guy that’s been out there for a long time. JOB is wearing the helmet, flotation device, crash suit whatever they call them-very smart on a day like that because you can totally see that the wave is over such a shallow depth over the reef by the way the white wash really explodes up it crashes.
He us a phenom. I preferred Nates wave just before, cleaner, speedier and more intense...at least to me. 😎 The boys were charging, and that was some gnarly pipe!😅😅😅
As always, the surfing is phenomenal. Camera footage is stellar. The great angles and just the right scope in distance takes you there. Thanks to all. Looking forward to the new season. 👍👍👏👏🤙🤙😎😎
I look forward to your videos every week. I am in my first year of law school and I don't have time to watch regular TV. But often when I'm really tired and have to get thru another section of reading for that day, I'm like when I'm done reading I can watch a this is livin' video.
Pipeline is my favorite surf break. Not because I could handle it, but because it breaks so close to shore that you can sit on the beach and watch many great surfers up close. This video takes me back 50 years.
@koarothman Wanted to say thank you! You guys are killing it out there. Old California / Malibu kid who moved to NC and was out of the water for years and years. Stumbled onto your YT channel after a 10 day visit to Oahu last month to see my brother. We were in the water surfing everyday. Didn’t know how much I missed it. But seriously living in NC it’s great to have these to watch. Mahalo 🤙🏼
Now that winter swell has finally arrived on the North Shore, I hope we'll see awesome content from Koa and the boys surfing massive waves. Let's go, Koa, Nate, and Eli, it' showtime!
Also, what you do indeed does deserve admiration. I would be clapping, it is something special to be in a place and see people riding on special water.
@@KoaRothman not sure who is dismantling my favorite parts of pros surfing but, yes Wave of the Winter and the Van's Triple crown are missed 😢 What is going on with the WSL Big wave tour? Nat was talking about the "New Big wave challenge"? not sure what that is.
That was excellent footage, don’t know what was different but it made for a better viewing experience than usual ( not that it is ever not). So yeah thanks for sharing. Top notch work
Koa that board is beautiful! Not that I want you to but if you break it 😂 I'll pay shipping to California. You're going to have an epic season 😎 you deserve one🎉
Yeah bro keep it up! I like seeing the poundings too that keeps it real. Colorados in Nica can pin you to the sand even though its beach break it cranks can be very scary at times. Saw Job out there years ago too good times.
all the paddling out / wipeout footage is very valuable, I wish you could upload all those to a separate channel if it's not the kind of content you want in this one.🙏🙏🙏
11:16 -- Nice pad, brah! Like the art on your walls. Big Eddie's place, or ... Oh, by the way, Chas Smith once followed me on Twitter, like ... four years ago, because I figured out where your Pops lived. Shhh, no tell!
Hey u know, Koa. The ocean ALWAYS wins! BK once said how in surfing big waves on the North Shore the waves are in control. As a surfer, you’re not in control., “ you ride the line of balance and hold on by just a thread”(Springsteen)
Hehehe guys telling koa “get out there” while they’re all spectating safely from shore 😊. Koa you looked so tired after that second session. Hope you got some water and a good meal after 🤙
I was at Pipe last March, and it wasn't pumping, but the water inside moves SO MUCH you might as well be in a raging river. It's no joke how dangerous that place is for people who don't understand what they are getting themselves in to. These pros and locals who have been lived there their entire lives make it look relatively safe...but it's not lol Being able to hold your breath while being thrashed around underwater (think Olympic swimming pool being dumped on your head lol), pounded in to the reef and beach, not panicking if you've got water in your lungs etc so much respect for these guys.
Koa You’re such a chill guy what’s your favorite break in California or the states for that matter I grew up surfing in Newport Beach 54th St. nice break I think the point 18th St. would be a good fit for you or the wedge just wondered what are some of your not biggest brakes but funnest brakes you’ve served in the mainland
Thank you for your courage it reminds me to stay positive and no worries I just recently finished my prison sentence after 15 years I sometimes forget my own courage. But draw strength from surfing and rembering not everyone can surf .ok .thanks again Aloha
Loving the content. Gotta ask. Are you using the 200-600mm or a fixed focal like the 400 or 600mm 2.8 -or- something completely different? Love the videos you guys are producing.
Koa! I was the one that yelled and started the clapping on the beach! I yelled out "Lets go Koa!!!!" and started cheering and everyone joined in. I'm a big fan of your videos I watch them every week so it was really cool seeing you surf Pipe XXL in person!
Oh no way! Haha I felt like I was back in the Eddie
Pro surfers are the most underestimated athletes on the planet. The skillset required to get to this level is known only to a few.
That’s so true! Especially this level. A lot of people have the idea of surfers being dumb and spent too much time in the sun. But to be able to do this takes incredible skill.
Pro surfers get some recognition. There are many more that have out in the dedication and time to be nearly as good and no one knows their names
Good call, the skillset can only be obtained through years and years of surfing. That's why you will never get an athlete from similar sports (snowboarding, skating, wakeboarding etc) crossover to surfing and be successful where as a surfer can can or could crossover to those other mentioned sports and have succes.
@@webcontact118what recognition? From other surfers maybe but most people don’t even know who Kelly slater is 😂 they do not get any recognition
Hey Barney, when the wave breaks here, don't be there! You're going to get drilled!
This has to be the one of most intense pipe videos I have ever seen. Honestly the footage of the inside melts my mind and is so hair raising. You guys are beyond animals of this world, just another level of skill and insanity.
animals..for sure..cheehuuu
Stoked you watched it! It was such a tough couple days haha
yup, not a lot of folks can paddle into that and make it look easy.
This sums it up perfectly. The turbulence of that inside was scary to watch.
unreal. thank you for including clips like 3:00 showing the approaching sets, positioning in lineup, paddling etc etc. Gives us casual surfer viewers a good grasp of everything that is going on.
best pipeline video
Glad you enjoyed it!

It’s nice to see the falls and the clean up sets, sometimes you forget that happens to pros too haha
Pipeline treats everyone equal
Love in the first session how Nate gets a killer wave but then John John just has to outdo everyone like its effortless, it is almost sickening 😄
That ride that John John got was a beautiful thing!!! Doubt anyone did much better than that!!! Beautiful stuff and love your channels!!!
9:05
Next level, the depth he gets and rockets out of is probably the best ever. 😮
Thanks for the support legend. Yeah John is the best in the world

Yet when Kirra gets 6ft plus all the Gold Coast pros tow in and damn near decapitate punters fighting the sweep, respect to you and your boys Koa !

“U went out and come back in. That's a hell of a deal” who is that legend? The cameraman ?😂👏
Good to see you and your lifelong crew enjoying a pipe sesh mostly to yourselves … heavy on some of those bombs inside!
It was amazing being out with just us. Felt like we were surfing in the 80s or something.
John John is just on another level at Pipe
Love that you showed paddling and getting caught inside

The dark synth trance was definitely the right music choice
I got to surf pipeline 30 40 times back in the early 70s. Really enjoyed this video.
I was up there taking pictures Wed of that week. The waves people were riding were huge, but the cleanup sets were just insane.
Giant! Insanity! Beautiful!! the music was a pure jam what a beat to those beasts

Yes. Knowledge of the water and how it moves will literally save your life. You can just see how they know where to position themselves....
Those clean ups are stuff of nightmares. Bombs.
I wish you all safety, the last few videos of this swell made me remember the power on the ocean.
The ocean is so powerful! But thanks legend we will stay safe!

That cleanup at 17:07 is some of the most hectic shit I've ever seen.
Perfect music choice + insane long footage
Super waves and video. Just the experts.
Whoah those cleanup sets... how many gallons you think are in those? Kahzillion from the looks of it. Stay safe and have fun. 💪💥
