That's not a key hiding spot, that's the backup slot for when the battery dies in the keyfob so you can still start your vehicle, if you keep your key there then anyone can steal your vehicle, its stupid to keep it there
The “Hidden Key Spot” is actually there in case the vehicle can not sync to the key fob such as in the event the fob’s battery dies. If this occurs, you place the key fob in the “Hidden” space so that the vehicle can recognize and sync to the key so that the vehicle can be started and driven.
I was a locksmith and thats there for programming new proxy keys and also if the battery in your remote dies all you have to do is rest the key in that slot and push the button to start the truck.
I'm happy that someone else already pointed out that this isn't a hiding spot. With this being the first video I've seen on this channel, not sure I'd trust much else that is said on this channel or watch any other videos on it...
Nice video but actually it's not a hiding spot. It's in case your push button start does not recognize that you have a key you can put the key it in there to start your vehicle. That's why the XLT didn't have it because it has a regular key 😀
Actually it’s for when you key fob battery dies. The fob has NFC technology, so placing it in that spot is fallback to starting the engine and using the vehicle. You wouldn’t be able to drive your auto otherwise (there’s no turn-key ignition port/switch).
Dear everyone watching this video. DON'T hide your key here!!! It's where you can put a dead intelligent access key to still start the vehicle with push button start!! Meaning if you "hide" an extra key here and someone gets inside your truck, all they have to do it push the brake and the start button and so long F-150!
Hey Cameron, thanks so much for saying this. Yes your right if they hide the key in that spot this will make it much easier to steal it. I did not realize this at the time of filming the video. I think I'm going to make a new video this month to talk about all of this. thanks, Chad
Not on an XLT because it's not a hiding spot. It's for trim levels that have push-button start instead of a physical key. In those vehicles, if the battery in the fob is dead, you put the fob in that spot and it gives it enough charge to start the truck. No need for that if you have a physical key. Read your manual!
Dude. If you hide your key there someone can start your car? That's like your ignition if you have intelligent access. It's like hiding your key in your ignition. LOL keep them coming bro!
lol I like how you think! Thanks and yes doing videos daily. please try checking out the channels home page. might have some more vids you'll enjoy. Chad
That is so you can authorize keys and access your master code so you can change your door keypad from the manufacturers assigned code. As well as being able to start the vehicle if you fob is dead.
That’s not a hiding spot. That is for your Proximity key, if the battery is low. The security magnetic is located in that spot. All Ford and Lincoln have a spot like this if they have a push button start. Your sales rep is supposed to show this to you when you purchase the vehicle. I know I do 😉
Not only is this not for a “hiding spot” is actually a place to allow you to start your car if the battery goes dead. It is also if you need to purchase and new key and want to program is your self
I just got the 2018 Ford F-150 Lariat. That key spot is under the front drink holder. I was told it is for, if your battery is very low on your key fob, place it there and you will be able to start your truck.
Yes Ann, thats what's its for. When I made this video I did not know that, but after talking with more Ford owners I found out the real purpose of this. thanks, Chad
The only problem with the hiding place for the FOB if a thief gets into your truck (which is relatively easy to do) and they hit the start button they are gone. There's no need to leave a message that is a hidden FOB.
That’s not meant to be key hiding spot it’s for if the battery in the key ever dies and you can’t start the truck u put the key in there and then it will start the truck
In a Volt if the car doesn't recognize the remote, you open the compartment on top of the dash, pull up the rubber mat, and there's a little slot you can flip open the key and stick it in to start the car.
The 18’s hiding spot is in the forward cup holder right behind the compartment you were looking that’s also more than just a hiding spot that’s where you gotta put the key fob if the key fob battery dies...
1) If it's a hiding spot, telling thieves about it is a good way to become a target 2) It's not a hiding spot. It's NFC tech for when your key fob dies, so you are not left stranded and can start your car
People can learn a lot by reading the owner's manual. This is why car manufacturers print them for us. Whenever I get a new vehicle I always read the manual to find out all the features of my cars.
That spot is used by the technician to place the new key when they are going to program a new key to the vehicle using the IDS programmer. It’s not a hiding spot. In some of the vehicles it’s inside the center armrest cubby.
Does anyone know what that center slot is actually called? I have a 17 XLT and mine is jammed from a drink spilling while it was closed. I’m guessing it got to the retractable unit and I have to pull it to open it. I wanna find out if it’s fixable I spayed cleaning oil and that didn’t work and ideas
That's not for hiding the key. That's so that you can still start the car when the key's battery is almost dead - the transponder is right under there.
Hiding your intelligent access key (IAK) anyplace in your vehicle means anyone can start and drive off with your vehicle. If you want to keep a spare, make sure you place it in a faraday cage-bag. Make sure you test it every so often. Bad news coming out with your IAK to go someplace and find your vehicle is gone. The bags come in all different sizes. Besides if there is a EMP your vehicle won't work but you remote will still function, LOL. The Faraday bag will keep the remote from activating your vehicle functions.
There's actually another spot under the rubber tray to the left of the cup holders on the more base models with the center console. Actually pretty deep can store more than a key in there.
really Eric, thats interesting I'll have to check that out when I'm back at Ford tomorrow. hmm that might be the REAL Hiding Spot that people don't want me making videos about. The spot in this current video I found out is really for the Technicians to program the keys to the vehicle and in some cases you can can power up the truck if you key fob battery is dead.
What do you do if you buy a used truck with the keypad thingy on the door and have no way of knowing what the previous owner set the code to? (My neighbors case)
you need both fobs. Take fob 1 place it in the "hiding spot" turn on truck, turn off truck .remove fob1. next take fob 2 place in the "hiding spot" turn on the truck , turn off the truck. The code will be displayed in the dash.
I don’t believe it is on that XLT, because that particular truck doesn’t use the programmable key. It has a traditional ignition which uses a key. That spot isn’t for storage. It is for programming.
Well, I hate to tell you, but it's not a hiding spot... It's how to retrieve your door factory key code, no joke, I just found out myself...It's really cool!!
Good deal, I have a 2018 and I still can't find the darn spot!!!! I learn something new almost everyday on this truck. Thanks for the video, keep them coming!!!
2018 the hiding spot is not in the front bin, but for those that have the shifter on the tree, it's where the down shifter would go. Lift the rubber mat on the far left center bin, and there you go.
Not a hiding place every sales person should know about this and inform the customer upon delivery! If the fob battery dies you use the physical key in the fob to enter the vehicle and then you place the fob in that spot some cords have a similar spot under the cup holders some in the center console. You put the key there and the vehicle will be able to read the key and start the vehicle!
The other hiding spot is under the first cup holder . They are not actual hiding spots they are to program key or to get keyless code for key pad on the door
If you leave your spare key fob in the “hidding spot” it will drain your truck battery. It has happen to me before. That spot if for when your key fob batter is dead thus you can not start the truck via push button. You put the fob in that “hidding spot” Lol in Order to start the vehicle with a dead key fob
You are wrong about the 2018. The left section of the center console has the hidden compartment. Its the try next to the driver.. lift up the rubber and bam..
Ron I'll look again, but man I've looked in those 2018's many of times and can't seem to find it. I've also looked on different trim levels. If I can find it I'll be sure to film it. thanks Ron I'll try and look this week. Chad
That's not to hide a key, that's the spot to put the key in case the battery on the key fob dies, you put the key there and allows you to start the truck
Hahahaha! Hidden spot, that's funny. That spot is to start the truck if your batteries in your fob dies. Also, it is in there to program your key to each user for certain settings within the truck, speed limitations, music volume, etc.
DON'T DO THIS. Unless you want someone to be able to just get in your vehicle (after breaking a window or some other access) and start it right up and drive away.
I own a new 2017 ford f150 and I don't have one of these. Not in the console, glove box, cup holder, ash tray area, under the mat on the dash...etc.,. I did find a little area that you can place your narcotics in though. Its actually shaped like a key fob come to think of it. However, in the manual on page 73, it clearly states "N.S.L." (narcotic stash location) with Anti-Law Enforcement Feature (pepper spray defense) Fuse loc. 28 (40a). They may still find your dope, but not without a hot dose of skunk cum to the eyeballs first. We've watched my dashcam video of it at least 10,000 times in the courtroom and it just gets funnier and funnier! Thanks Ford F150.
um not a good place to hide a key due to the fact that is where the key is placed to program the key. if you leave your vehicle unlocked someone would be able to just hit the start button and drive off with your 60k truck. Bad idea to do this. the XLT that you looked at probably had a regular key not a key fob with push button start.
Can you please show me where you hide the keys to the front door of your house just in case you forget your keys. I would really like to know how it's done. Just me. Nobody else.
I know this is an old video, with that said, the thieves know it now. if your truck is push button start, they can now drive off in truck. Not a great idea.
That's not a key hiding spot, that's the backup slot for when the battery dies in the keyfob so you can still start your vehicle, if you keep your key there then anyone can steal your vehicle, its stupid to keep it there
Very true, in my 2018 STX its under the front cup holder.
Wow, thanks for the clarification! What a dumb video!
Great way to have someone get their truck stolen. Why make a vid when he doesn’t have a clue.
I was thinking same thing after my key fob says battery low why would you store key there knowing someone can take the truck??
@@ericcurley14I just reported to UA-cam now. Very false information he got up
The “Hidden Key Spot” is actually there in case the vehicle can not sync to the key fob such as in the event the fob’s battery dies. If this occurs, you place the key fob in the “Hidden” space so that the vehicle can recognize and sync to the key so that the vehicle can be started and driven.

thanks for the great info Justin. this is why I love making videos on UA-cam, because many of you share great comments like this. Chad
No Problem :)
Yeah I remember I used to see that in the 7th gen Maxima
Put your spare key there and anybody can just drive away with your vehicle.
I'm happy that someone else already pointed out that this isn't a hiding spot. With this being the first video I've seen on this channel, not sure I'd trust much else that is said on this channel or watch any other videos on it...
Someone didn’t read their owners manual....
You are correct. They give a little more thought to space and function when designing interiors.
Nice video but actually it's not a hiding spot. It's in case your push button start does not recognize that you have a key you can put the key it in there to start your vehicle. That's why the XLT didn't have it because it has a regular key 😀
Fordsuperduty76 I have for and turnkey yet I habe this spot as well
sheldon blankenship yes some do. But not all because my brother's truck doesn't and he has a 2016 XLT
Fordsuperduty76 yup, exactly...
Fordsuperduty76 my 2016 xlt sport model has it...
Actually it’s for when you key fob battery dies. The fob has NFC technology, so placing it in that spot is fallback to starting the engine and using the vehicle. You wouldn’t be able to drive your auto otherwise (there’s no turn-key ignition port/switch).

Unless you have LoJack
Read the owners manual please, that’s where you put the key fob in case the battery in the fob goes dead.
Guess I'll remove my key now!
Does sport mode work if it thinks a trailer is hooked up? Or, is losing that feature a consequence of disabling
the A S/S?
Chad
CharlestonCarVideos I'm interested in that big towing 3.5 eco... !!!
that is used in programming new keys as master or mykeys for limited use of speed and features
When the key fob battery dies you put the fob in that cutout and your able to start the truck
on the 2018, its under the cupholder area instead. atleast the super duty it is.
Hahahahaha. I just watched your newer video about the mistake hiding spot on this older video!!
And the 2018 to 2020 models but it's in the bottom of your cup holder so a little bit easier to get too.
Thanks for this video now the world knows the hiding spot wont be putting my key there now!!
in your pocket is another really good hiding spot
Thanks now everyone knows about it
That is so you can authorize keys and access your master code so you can change your door keypad from the manufacturers assigned code. As well as being able to start the vehicle if you fob is dead.

Yes Ann, thats what's its for. When I made this video I did not know that, but after talking with more Ford owners I found out the real purpose of this. thanks, Chad
That's there for programming and to start your vehicle when fob battery dies.Had slotes for years when vehicle has push button start.
That is for programming new keys or if your fob battery is dead you can put it there and then you can start your truck.
Well that's not a hiding spot no more all of UA-cam knows about that little secret thumbs up
ha ha. I think your right. I just told all of UA-cam. wow thats alot of people!

1) If it's a hiding spot, telling thieves about it is a good way to become a target
2) It's not a hiding spot. It's NFC tech for when your key fob dies, so you are not left stranded and can start your car
now everyone that watches this video knows, Next time I want a new ride i'll know where to look thanks.
Sweet,I guess I will only target fords with key pads. You gotta love it.
For the new ford keys the indent is in the cup holders .. and that indent is used to start the car when your key fob runs out of battery
People can learn a lot by reading the owner's manual. This is why car manufacturers print them for us. Whenever I get a new vehicle I always read the manual to find out all the features of my cars.
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KEY THERE, this is the location for you to put the key when you battery in your fob dies & for the dealer to program keys

Front cup holder under rubber .2018 push start level. When battery is dead in FOB.
That's a key fob recharging location
Does anyone know what that center slot is actually called? I have a 17 XLT and mine is jammed from a drink spilling while it was closed. I’m guessing it got to the retractable unit and I have to pull it to open it. I wanna find out if it’s fixable I spayed cleaning oil and that didn’t work and ideas

BTW this location varies for different models, on my 2017 Explorer it's a pocket inside the console.
Hi, thought I ask - Lariat F150 2018 has no pocket. Any ideas.
There's actually another spot under the rubber tray to the left of the cup holders on the more base models with the center console. Actually pretty deep can store more than a key in there.

that spot on the 2018 is under the rubber in the cup holder. Front cup holder
Unbelievable. Thank you. 🤣🤣👍👍👍
I think thats for the key dock to set permissions. The 2019 has it under the cup holder.
I don’t believe it is on that XLT, because that particular truck doesn’t use the programmable key. It has a traditional ignition which uses a key. That spot isn’t for storage. It is for programming.
Well, I hate to tell you, but it's not a hiding spot... It's how to retrieve your door factory key code, no joke, I just found out myself...It's really cool!!
yes Robert I found out about this after filming this video lol. I've done a few updated videos since this. thanks, Chad

However, car thieves scan your fob and then what?
Has your panoramic moonroof failed?
On the F150? I have not had any issues with this. Is there a issues with yours?
Not a hiding place every sales person should know about this and inform the customer upon delivery! If the fob battery dies you use the physical key in the fob to enter the vehicle and then you place the fob in that spot some cords have a similar spot under the cup holders some in the center console. Thanks for your input Kristian! I've learned alot about this spot in the truck now that I made this video. Warm regards, Chad
That spot is for programming a key for the truck that wasn't put their for a hidden spot
Hide the key in your pocket lol
Thanks 4 informing the criminals
Think about it if lose key but tht inside ur tuck but it locked out of it hey the keybsafe in side ur beside not inur hand to get in urvtruck
The other hiding spot is under the first cup holder . They are not actual hiding spots they are to program key or to get keyless code for key pad on the door
What led are the ones it has?
Thats a proximity key genius. Did your truck come with an owner's manual??
That location is where you put your key fob when the battery in the fob fails, it will start your truck with a dead fob battery
If you leave your spare key fob in the “hidding spot” it will drain your truck battery. It has happen to me before. That spot if for when your key fob batter is dead thus you can not start the truck via push button. You put the fob in that “hidding spot” Lol in Order to start the vehicle with a dead key fob
Could you fit a dictionary in there?
Thanks for telling the world.....Guess they can change that now.
Chad
This is called the backup spot. it's used to program the MKEY function. Not a hiding spot
Thank you Auto stuff of America now everyone can steal your truck lol
Well apparently everyone knows about it now!
My 15’ XLT Sport has that spot.
Damn! Now everybody knows where I hide my spare key!.. I need a new hiding spot
2017 Ford F-150 xlt key fobs holder under cup holder
Ford F-150 Lariat 2019- My entire climate control panel is out of light during night? how to fix that.
Thats not a hiding place or for dead fob it's to program new key fobs
DON'T DO THIS. Unless you want someone to be able to just get in your vehicle (after breaking a window or some other access) and start it right up and drive away.
With both keys you can retrieve the factory door code using this
And by the way tht so called hiding spot( which it's not for hiding a key) on the 2018 is under the front cup holder boot
That’s Funny (hide spot) is not a hide a key!!!!
That slot is to start the vehicle if your key fob isn’t working or dies...
There is a spot underneath the front cup holder mat dude
Probably has to do with the push to start option.
I'd like to see that dash cam video you mention. got a link?
Welllll technically everyone on UA-cam now knows lmao!!! Thanks bud!!!!
Lol just given you a bad time
Now car thieves everywhere know!
Too funny - that's not a hiding spot. Thanks for placing your key in a location that makes it much easier for a thief to steal your truck.
Yes charles you have awesome cars that what I want to talk about a car
83,121 people NOW know about the "secret hidin place'
My XLT has that spot but I prefer not to use it to keep an honest thief honest
“No one is going to find other than you” and the 216k people who saw this video.😂 These clickbait guys are getting creative, I’ll give them that.
There is a hiding spot on the 2018 XLT the storage holder beside cup holder the pull rubber mat up and there is a small hiding spot
And now thieves know all they have to do is smash a window grab your hidden key and drive off. How cool is that
Perfect now everyone knows they just need to brake window grab the key and party time joy ride.
ya that means someone can start it then and take off...lol
F-150 KING OF TRUCKS what up what up!
sup Sean ...just watching vids and waiting for you too post again.
um not a good place to hide a key due to the fact that is where the key is placed to program the key. if you leave your vehicle unlocked someone would be able to just hit the start button and drive off with your 60k truck. Bad idea to do this. the XLT that you looked at probably had a regular key not a key fob with push button start.
My 2016 XLT has the spot to hide a key never used it. I thought it was pointless because it's not push button start
Can you please show me where you hide the keys to the front door of your house just in case you forget your keys. I would really like to know how it's done. Just me. Nobody else.
I know this is an old video, with that said, the thieves know it now. if your truck is push button start, they can now drive off in truck. Not a great idea.
That spot is for programming The key . And I am a locksmith so I know that's what it's for
Well thanks. Now everyone else knows! (Can’t read it but there is a sound of sarcasm)
That doesn’t apply to bench seat F-150’s either.
