  • Join us for days 109 and 110 of our End-to-End hike across the UK that very unexpectedly turned out to be the worst days of the trail. Just a few days before the end, I injured myself pretty badly and had to go to the hospital - for the first time ever in the UK.
Would this be the end of our adventure?
    Route:
    Newquay-Holywell (5.1mi/8,2km)
    Holywell-St Agnes Beacon (11.5mi/18,5km)
My dream is to make a living out of my passion for being outdoors, hiking and creating videos that brighten your day! If you enjoy the videos and want to support our next adventures with a treat for Otto and a coffee for me:

Your support means the world and I’m really grateful!
I’m a bit behind on posting these videos but I'm uploading new videos every Sunday and Wednesday now so that I can catch up quickly and be more up-to-date.
Please subscribe (it’s free :)) if you want to stay up to date and support my work. That would really mean a lot!
    Thank you so much!

I was glad to see you managed to get through your injury. Pulling out at this stage was no doubt unthinkable, but life sometimes has other plans for us.

Oh Mann, Elli 😢 Das ist echt heftig mit Deinem Finger und jetzt die Bilder dazu zu sehen! Zum Glück hast Du einen kühlen Kopf bewahrt in der Situation.

It was a horrible moment and the sound and feeling of how it happened haunted me for days even though I'm normally not sensitive to see blood etc. 😬

    OMG that looked painful.
    HI Elli and Otto.
As I know you're home I won't ask about your finger But I felt for you because I once trapped my hand in a door and cried like a baby lol.
That bridge you walked across the sea on was so cool 👍 Just make sure you never stop halfway for lunch!
Apart from your finger being damaged another great video with some beautiful coastal views.
    Take care ✌️😋

It really was :/ I have yet to find out how or even if my nail will regrow ..... even after all those weeks I can feel that it's not back to normal yet and still hurts here and there which is crazy. A scar to remind me of this adventure for a long time probably!
Thank you so much for the encouragement and for following along :)

Oh Elli, but what a difference a couple of days made. So glad your finger mended.
I don't know if you've watched any of Scott's end2end episodes on his channel 'Endorphins', but I'm pretty sure that although you met once, recent vlogs appear to show you both only a few miles and days apart on the coastal trail.
It won't be long until you get LE so I'm going to miss your delightful smile and tongue sticking out. And will miss Otto too. Hopefully you'll do something next year. X

Yes, it really was! Just as I thought everything was going so well :) The wound itself healed ok, but as the finger was also broken (which I only realised later) it took a lot of time and to this day (almost 3 months later), the nail didn't grow back yet.... I now have a scar that will remind me of this JoGLE for a long time 🙈😬

Ouch 🤕 What a start to episode 42 just as things where going swimmingly! I admire your perseverance and stamina. Knew you’d crack on regardless. Know matter what you plan for, something will always go wrong, the trick is to “keep calm and carry on” which you did in buckets load. Impressed at working around the injury. Not fun but you were rewarded with some stunning views. Thank you again for sharing.

Aww, thank you so much for the kind word, encouragement and support! It's so amazing that you keep following along :) Yes, this were definitely some very hard moments but the coast path and its beauty makes up for every tough day. It's hard not to be optimistic, the sea is just so good for the mind and the soul :) It always makes me happy :)

Oh Elli... we humans are brilliant at keeping ourselves safe in risky situations and then manage to do the dumbest things when we're relaxed and in safe situations. Hope it's all healed ok now.
So lucky you were near a hospital with few emergency patients. Such a contrast to busy urban areas where you can wait for hours. They probably didn't do any paperwork, but I wonder if the general free European medical reciprocal agreement still works ?
It must have been liberating to walk packless! I wonder if you could have gone further, but then there's the risk that a bus is cancelled, leaving you stranded, I s'pose.

    • @ellihikes
      @ellihikes  7 місяців тому +1

Hahaha, yes - that's so true! It healed ok, but I have yet to find out if or how the nail will regrow 🙄 The dammage was quite substantial and the finger was also broken (only realised that later). Tbh I can still feel (and see) that it's not back to normal yet even 3 months later which is crazy.
I was so thankful that there weren't many patients that morning and that the MIU was so small that I could watch Otto through the window. That was my biggest worry and why I was so nervous in the video. Worrying what to do with Otto if the hospital was on a busy street etc. or if I needed to wait for hours was horrible - on top of the pain, the heat and walking through Newquay with a wound that was bleeding through. The staff was amazing which helped so so much :)
Re the insurance thing: They took all my details (address, Passport and insurance number) and I was wondering if I would hear back from my German insurance that maybe not everything was covered.
But I found out that the agreement is still in place and that EU citizens can access healthcare with a valid EHI card :) So it was easier than expected and I didn't have to do anything which was a big relief :)

@@ellihikes Oh no... I hope the nail regrows. Glad the free emergency medial care still works. Finding someone to look after Otto in an emergency is a dilemma.

Oh Ellie, you poor girl! So sorry about your finger😢 You handled it well once the initial shock wore off. Im sure it throbbed like crazy! I’ve thought about buying some surgical glue to put in my first aid kit (after cutting myself in the woods😉), but its very expensive. Glad everything turned out ok and you were able to get the help you needed. Getting through bad situations makes us stronger. Your ability to do that and put a smile on your face a few mins later is inspiring, and one of the reasons I enjoy your videos. Stay strong, and keep on keepin on!😎🥾

Omg, yes! The first night was horrible and I was happy that I had some pain killers :) My sister is a doctor and also suggested surgical glue and might be able to get me some. Thank you so much for the kind words and support - that means so so much!! :)

omg, yes! It was so unexpected and happened so quickly. It was mad..... My finger healed ok, but so far the nail didn't grow back (I'm wondering if it ever will) and my finger doesn't feel normal yet tbh.... Looks like I'm going to be reminded of this hike for a long time!

Hey Ellie, so sorry about your finger, I just had a toenail removed so I understand your pain!
Quick question….the trail shoes you are wearing in this video, what make and model are they please? I love the look of the wide toe box.
Ps Otto is the best crisp eater ever!

Argh, yes it's so painful 😬😖🙈 my shoes are the Olympus 5 by the brand Altra. I love them, they have a lot of cushioning and a very wide toe box. But they are zero drop shoes so it can take a bit of time to get used to :)
