IMPORTANT NOTE: Luke's name is never spoken during the entire series. When he arrives, he never introduces himself.
I have taken the liberty of rewatching the last episode and transcribing ALL of Luke's Dialogue:
    "I am [a Jedi]."
    "Come little one,"
"He wants your permission. He is strong in the Force, but he will not be safe until he masters his abilities."
"May the Force be with you."

That was actually a gripe I had with that scene. What was Luke’s hurry? Why didn’t he introduce himself? Was he aware of what Gideon was doing? If so, wouldn’t he be somewhat concerned that not only as a Jedi, but as a high ranking rebel military leader that Moff Gideon was using force sensitive blood for cloning experiments? Wouldn’t that be a major red flag? And if he wasn’t aware, why didn’t he at least inquire as to what was going on, or at the very least, introduce himself to the people he literally just rescued? It was a great scene, but did suffer from lazy writing.

The only one that knew who Luke was, that was on the bridge, was Moff Gideon. He recognized him on the screen and almost crapped himself. He knew of the Jedi that destroyed the Empire and took out Vader and the Emperor as well as the first Death Star. He knew because it was his job to know.

I'd imagine Luke wouldn't publicize his actions. For one, he's not a guy to brag. For another, if everyone loyal to the Emperor knew Luke was responsible... there'd probably be a big target on his back bigger than the Last Jedi's plot holes. The rebels just expended all their efforts on destroying the Death Star. The last thing they needed was to play body guard for the old religious wizard monk cult that caused the Clone Wars, the Empire, and the Civil War in the first place. I don't think the average galactic citizen would know much about the Sith considering A: The Jedi told almost no one about them up until their eradication, and B: The Empire most likely would have painted them in a very bad light for the last 30 years. And who would know Luke was responsible and not just the destruction of the Death Star 2 unless he told people? Unless there was a live stream in the Emperor's Throne room. My logic was extremely simple: Grogu's kind are all Force-sensitive (and usually very strong in this way), so he'll need a Jedi to train him; he's a toddler who will need a Jedi with the expertise, time, and willingness to train him; and the obvious answer to who that would be, given the time frame, is Luke. Who else would it have been? The producers were hiding nothing, just not mentioning anything about Luke, that's all. The part in Return of the Jedi aboard the rebel cruiser when Luke comes in say's "I'm with you too" everyone cheers. The RotJ official novel says cheers when up for the last of the Jedi.... In ESB he was Commander Skywalker, Rouge leader then dropped the rank due to his Jedi Training after ESB. @herrzimm 2 роки тому +3

True, all true. But keep in mind that for "propaganda purposes" (As this video seems to think is the ONLY reason possible), you wouldn't include that information in your narrative.
Luke would be "farm boy" and used to promote the "anyone can be a hero" narrative.
Leia would be the "lone survivor of Alderran who led the revenge for her planet", or at least the "last ruler of Alderran" type narrative.
For propaganda purposes (which again is the ONLY point made in this video) their connection as son/daughter of Skywalker from the Clone Wars would get in the way. It would sound too much like "to be a hero you have to be related", which doesn't work. But as "random farmer" or "lone survivor" you can make multiple narratives work for propaganda. Plus you can mix-and-match the two stories together better by how one encouraged the other, or comforted the other, and even possibly loved one another as comrades in arms, without mentioning being bro/sis. Keeping their "heritage" out of the picture produces a gold-mine of material to work with in regard to propaganda.

Later, after Endor, there was probably an even BIGGER political push (Fey'lya? Might we see him?) to bring Luke out on holo as THE war-hero....probably right up until he mentions during the debrief to Leia, Mon Mothma, and guys like Cracken and Ackbar: "Oh, uh, Darth Vader was my father...." Why would Cara know Luke? I sometimes feel Star Wars fans don't seem to fully realize how fucking big a damn galaxy is. To most people throughout the galaxy, the Jedi Order would have been mostly a legend or myth...or possibly something they had never heard of...even at the height of it's power in the prequel era. The Rebel Alliance itself would have been spread all over the place, with disconnected cells, units and campaigns occurring in various sectors thousands of light years from each other with little to no contact. Some rebel units might be formed on a single planet (or within a single star system) and spend the entire war fighting just in that one place. The majority of the populace might not even be very aware of the Force as an actual thing with practical uses. For example, to the average person, someone saying, "May the Force be with you," might be the Star Wars equivalent of saying, "Bless you," or "Go with god." Also, there is little to no reason why some rebel soldier (not to mention just normal people,) would have any idea who Luke, Han or Leia were. Canon sources make it clear that very few people had ever even heard of Darth Vader, and that the number of people who knew the Emperor was an evil Sith Lord could be counted on one hand. Yeah, Cara should know vaguely who Leia is since she was a princess of Alderaan, and is now a Senator in the New Republic, but other than that, why the hell would she recognize Luke Skywalker?
    EDIT:
Before somebody says, "But, what about the Holonet?"...just no. The Holonet is not Star Wars Internet. It's a database/library with some remote information sharing connections. People in the SW galaxy don't have personal computers or game consoles at home, they don't have Holonet connected communicators or digital information technology like we take for granted. Everything in Star Wars is analog and mechanical, even computers. That's why you can shoot a control panel to "lock" a door (you literally fused the physical locking mechanism behind the control panel,) or shoot a computer terminal to erase the information on it (the data is stored on tapes or other solid state physical media within the mechanical computing device.) It's why, despite the existence of "lock on" targeting systems, it takes several shots to hit a locked on target, even after the targeting solution has been input to the analog firing mechanism (the mechanical, clock work pieces and transistors inside the "computer" have a hard time keeping up with target movements in real time.) My point here is that Star Wars does not exist in a real time, digital realm like we do. There is nobody posting on Galactic Twitter that Luke just blew up the Death Star. There is no Wikipedia, or Facebook or any of that shit. In our world, it's "pics or it didn't happen," but in the Star Wars world it's, "If you weren't there, then it didn't happen."

Reality: The Death Star was still a major secret as of Rogue One. Literally a few days to a week or so later some new recruit to the Rebellion, a dude from a no where delivers the firing shot to destroy the Death Star. The Empire could of used the media to call this a terrorist attack on a New Military Base. In the Rebellion Luke Skywalker would be famous and literally ends up a major leader in the Battle of Hoth. But then disappears sometime during the battle. Never showing up at the "Rendezvous Point".
Fast forward a few years later. A second Death Star still under construction, which no one knew about gets destroyed again by the very same terrorist that destroyed the 1st Death Star. The Rebel mission was kept secret. Luke joined it at the last minute.

Makes sense to me. Just like in the Clone Wars, the Jedi to normal person ratio was obscenely one sided. One person just doesn't matter when you're fighting a war on a galactic scale. Heck, even during the clone wars, its stated that most of the clone armies never even got to see a jedi on the battlefield.

Another thing he would have been famous for after the Battle of Yavin would be starting, and commanding, Rogue Squadron. If you'll remember on Hoth, his team lead their aerial defense. Luke himself was consulted on what should be loaded for departure first, to get as many people and assets as they could off world before the Empire arrived. He proved himself to be more than just a farm boy who happened to blow up the Death Star. Still, that makes you correct about how Cara Dune may not have recognized him. It could very well be she heard his name before, but never seen a picture of him. It's easy to know a person by reputation, and then not recognize them when you meet them in person.

watch starwars 5 again, he was a commander and I would think that he still is a commander at the end of starwars 6. so I would think that cara would know luke as a commander. but wookiepedia said that cara saw most of action after battle of endor so maybe she didn't meet luke during her service in the rebels.

She explicitly tells Mando that she served after "Endor", in the "cleanse", with the new republic suffocating minor rebel groups and hunting down imperial executives.

"The REAL Reason No One Recognized Luke Skywalker" - I put a wild guess into this.. Cause it is a whole damn GALAXY?! :D

    • @bloodyneptune

First off, , they label their years BBY/ABY, Before/After the Battle Of Yavin, thats how big of a deal that was. They label their years after the thing Luke did. He is very, very famous.
Cara was a member of the Rebel Alliance when Luke took out both Death Stars, pretty sure she knew who he was.
The Empire occupied Mandalore, forced Bo-Katan to abdicate and started a Mandalorian genocide. Which is why she worked with the Rebels to try and bring the Empire down. Someone _probably_ mentioned the dude who blew up the Death Stars and brought down the Empire.
Fennec was frequently hired by Jabba and had been on his sail Barge. You'd think in a 'whole damn galaxy' that two of the people on that bridge not only knew the same person, but had both been on the same ship, would be monumentally improbable. And yet here we are. Its as if people who all tend to go to the same planets and are members of the same groups might f*cking meet.
And all of this is taking place within about half the galaxy, not the _whole_ galaxy.
      You're bad at guessing.

What I found interesting on a rewatch is I noticed they purposefully got Boba Fett out of the way before the rescue mission, because he is the one guy on the show who would have instantly recognized Luke Skywalker, and known he was a Jedi, which would have spoiled the reveal.
