You could tell that Dooku's refined Lightsaber combat style was reminiscent to Christopher Lee's real life reputation as a world class fencer. He was involved in more on screen swordfights than any other actor alive as well as do his own stunts. It goes without saying that Christopher Lee is a badass

The signs were there but he failed to notice them and in turn he also failed Dooku.

Dooku was never a true Sith. He merely went with the Armin's ideals from SnK:
"To have the strength to combat the monster, one must become the monster himself."
Since his first appearance in Attack of the Clones, Dooku made it clear that his wish was to destroy the Sith Order completely, and some other media it is elaborated that he never wanted to rule the Galaxy, as he considered himself unfit to do so despite his noble heritage. He only wanted to break and reassemble the corrupt Republic and get rid of the Sith for good. And to achieve that, he undertook drastic measures.
That's why I feel that Clone Wars didn't do justice to Dooku. While his style was clearly shown as much more elegant and refined than in the films, his overall personality felt much more machiavellian and downright evil. Not to mention he didn't appear at all in the Season Seven, which I consider a crime against humanity.

1st off Dooku and Anakin were stuck in their ways. They were going to fall to Dark side no matter what what Yoda or anyone did. Anakin was keeping secrets bottled up and Dooku was just wanting to ingest knowledge of the dark side. 2nd Those who usually question anything about the light side falls. Look at Luke's order, those who went thought the pace without much questioning did well. Those you did fell ( rosh penin, Kyp Durron, Tahiri viela, Jacen Solo just to name a few) Luke's flexible approach blinded him from jacen to much just Yoda was to dooku was Anakin and luke was "suppose" to be more in tune to the dark side. Yoda had every right to be dogmatic, he oversaw 10's of thousands Jedi knights without fail.

In fairness, Master Yoda, though mostly Jedi only weild lightsabers, more than just Jedi engage in melee. Vibroblades are uncommon but not non-existent in combat, and many cultures like the Tuscan raiders on Tatoonie still engage in combat with gaffi sticks. I would also argue that any combat technique that will defeat an adept swordsman will equally slay any large and feral beast just as effectively.
It is also worth mentioning, though lightsaber combat is a focus in Form 2, its focus on disarming an opponent should be noted, especially opposed to other students who study Form 5, which practices and even promotes lethal force.
    I'm looking at you, Anakin.

Why do people keep interpreting the quote this say... I don't understand how everyone completely misses the point of the "only a sith deals in absolutes". He is not literally saying everyone who says an absolute is a sith.
People completely gloss over the context of when it's being said.
Obi-wan is arguing with Anakin, when Anakin demands that everything submit to his new Empire and Obi-Wan shouts that we are supposed to fight for democracy.
Anakin replies "you are either with me or against me", in which Obi-Wan responds with the quote, because Anakin is refusing to argue and have a debate.
That's the whole point of "dealing in absolutes". A person who doesn't allow debate or politics, who demand that everyone submit to their views.
Obi-wan making that claim is not hypocritical, nor is he "dealing in absolutes". He is not dealing in anything, it's a response to Anakin who has already rejected any alternative outcome.

I think it's worth remembering that while Yoda was indeed very wise and knowledgeable, he was also wrong about _a lot._ He mishandled Anakin from the start, mishandled the Jedi involvement in the Clone Wars, and allowed himself and his order to be manipulated by Sidious. In fact, Yoda has fairly consistently struggled to cope with anyone or anything unorthodox within the Jedi order. He couldn't handle Anakin, couldn't handle Qui-Gon, couldn't handle Dooku.
The Revenge of the Sith novelisation sums it up rather nicely, I feel:
"The Sith had changed. The Sith had grown, had adapted, had invested a thousand years' intensive study into every aspect of not only the Force but Jedi lore itself, in preparation for exactly this day. The Sith had remade themselves.
    "They had become _new._
    "While the Jedi -
"The Jedi had spent that same millennium training to re-fight the _last_ war."
    And later...
"Too old I was," Yoda said. "Too rigid. Too arrogant to see that the old way is not the _only_ way. These Jedi, I trained to become the Jedi who had trained me, long centuries ago - but those ancient Jedi, of a different time they were. Changed, has the galaxy. Changed, the order did not - because _let_ it change, _I_ did not."

The wise Yoda we see in Empire Strikes Back is a Yoda who has spent the last 20 years of his life reflecting on all his past mistakes, and knowing that, when the time came, there would be just one (ok, maybe two, since there was another) last chance to set right what he had contributed to allowing to go awry, and if he didn't get it right this time, the galaxy was screwed for possibly forever.

    • @pendafen7405
      @pendafen7405 2 роки тому +54

There's a case to say that Yoda's longevity and concomitant de-sensitivity to the vicissitudes of mortality has much to do with this. He's watched countless Padawans grow up, age and die. He has seen many revolutions uprise and fall, with the same outcomes, all across the Galaxy. When we meet him, the world he knew as a young, hopeful, idealistic young Jedi has long since collapsed and became practically ancient. He spends hundreds of years alone as the only living being in his vicinity who remembers certain things, and no-one around him cares much about those things unless they are directly relevant to the teachings of the Order. He doubtless became tired of seeing futile turns of Life's Wheel, and stopped seeing the changes around him. Perhaps during the Clone Wars or sometime after, he decided to focus only on the purity of the Force, and finally stop trying to keep up with a world he didn't know anymore---and who could blame him?

But Yoda's arrogance blinded him to even the possibility that he could be wrong, and so he dismissed Dooku's opinions. And if you want to foster animosity and discontent in someone, just treat his thoughts with complete contempt, and dismiss everything he tells you. You know, like Yoda did.

He would've been the Jedi's top weapon against the Sith. Imagine if Dooku was still a Jedi at the time of the phantom menace. It would of most likely been Dooku and Jinn against Darth Maul. I forget who that quote is from (Aristotle or some other ancient philosopher), but it fits this perfectly. The Jedi were foolish to believe that the Sith were gone for good, and they should have been preparing themselves for their eventual return. Yeah, even playing the story arcs in SWTOR on the pub (Republic) side you see the beginning of this kind of mindset. Both the counselor and knight arcs there is this sort of down playing of the Sith order, even after Malgus's raid on the temple on Coruscant you'd think they would be a bit more mindful of what the sith in general. Even the opening cinematic called Return for SWTOR you catch a line in there that just emphasis this same notion again. Through the pub side arcs with the trooper and smuggler too the Republic as a whole practically down plays the seriousness of the sith empire, not just the order the *ENTIRE* empire. And on imp (Imperial) side they capitalize on this, though that side has it's own issues which I would go into detail here. Suffice to say, had they gotten their act together they would have in the end wrecked the Republic.

Dooku could have even been commended for preserving an ancient art of the Jedi rather than letting it be lost to time. There were deeper issues going on and it makes Yoda sound very hypocritical. Really Dooku was right, the Sith did still exist, and I think his goal of not wanting the Jedi to be but a show piece or performers for the public was a noble one. A common misconception that balance means "using Dark and Light" together, it's also a misconception that balance is caused by the "number" of light and darksiders in the galaxy, it stems deeper than that. There are more than just the Jedi and the Sith out there using the Force.
Whilst I really don't like the Sequels, there is one line from Luke in TLJ that hits the nail on the head: "the belief that if the Jedi die the light dies is vanity", and the same applies to the Sith or anyone else. Light and Dark represent life and death in the Force, but the problem of unbalance is when people start using the Dark when it should be left untouched to "natually" do its thing, but living beings using the Force of "death" as it were (which is why the Darkside is so destructive), poisons the light (the living Force) and causes chaos. The reason for the unbalance is that the Sith grew very powerful and their power overshadowed the light in the universe even though there were far more Jedi in existance than Sith.
The Darkside is not meant to have a "tangible" presense in the universe, as that is what causes "unbalance", the Darkside should be left untouched in its own realm, as a background energy which automatically shifts in accordance to how much life (light) there is in the universe. Balance means using and having the presense of the light only in the "realm of the light" (the realm of the living, the physical universe where people live) and the Dark only existing on another plain but mirrors the Light, balancing out the cycle of life and death in the universe, allowing people to become one with the Force naturally (going to heaven basically).
When the Dark enters the physical realm and unbalance is caused, it's destructive and even blocks people off from becoming one with the Force, leaving only empty voids (and is a reason Darksiders can't move on after death, they either are destroyed altogether or their spirits bound to the physical realm where they can't escape and end up going mad, like the ghosts of Korriban).

Uhh...are we still sure that the Jedi are the "good guys" here?
Pretty much everything in this video paints the Jedi as incompetent, and Yoda as an ignorant manipulator. Using the force to invade someone's mind against their will, to alter/remove their memories? That is pretty horrifying, considering it's a "light side" ability, whereas Darth Plagueis' ability to save lives is "dark side" ability. The Jedi denying the existence of the Sith, and actively working to suppress the abilities of a promising student who just wanted to ensure that the threat really was gone? Oh, and he was totally correct the whole time...the Sith weren't gone.
Never mind the fact that they committed genocide (or attempted genocide) against a group of people who just adopt a different view of the force. Not all Sith are evil, but the Jedi want them dead anyway.

I don't think the sith and jedi are really as black and white as they're initially painted to be. One is not simply good or bad. It comes down to the individuals on each side I feel with what can be defined as such.

Seems like a case of Order vs Chaos and Belief vs Emotion.
The Jedi Order is a very rigid hierarchy deeply rooted in the pursuit of an unattainable ideal. The Sith pre-Rule of 2 were a loose collection of tenuous alliances formed by individuals who draw power by converting their rage, dispair, fear, ambition, etc into a motivating force.
Both lived extreme and unhealthy lifestyles. The prequel trilogy and its related materials perfectly setup a potential sequel trilogy that could explore the concept of a middle ground, and The Last Jedi was so close to knocking it out of the park, but suddenly undid all of Luke's development in the climax..

Most importantly Yoda never said anything at all about Dooku’s lightsaber in the book…The only thing Yoda ever said close to this is when Dooku and Kostana are dueling Yoda sees and says “stop” and says that the Sith are extinct… Master Kostana was the one who was arguing with Yoda that the Jedi should be prepared for the Sith. Not Dooku.
In the book it never specifically says why Dooku chose to make a curved hilt. Though I see where the connection to being prepared for Sith can come up. In the book Dooku is hoping to be chosen by Master Kostana for apprenticeship and is disappointed when she chooses Syfo Dias. Then after Yoda chooses Dooku and so Dooku quickly gets over that.
In the book it never says exactly why Yoda picked Dooku as an apprentice. Lorestar statement about that has to be an assumption. Also yes Yoda ignored Dooku at the beginning of Dooku’s apprenticeship But nowhere does it specifically say that Yoda refused to teach Dooku further in lightsaber training! Yet another statement made by Lorestar that is too much of a stretch in my opinion!
By Dooku’s duel with master Kostana we can take liberty to assume that Dooku was already better than most Jedi with a lightsaber at the age of 14 or 15… But Master Sinube was the one who trained initiates at lightsaber training! And Master Sinube told Dooku that Dooku was his BEST student.

We see the Jedi High Council's failings at every level in the Clone Wars; Ki-Adi-Mundi was out of touch, Luminara Unduli was too rigid in thought and practice to be an effective military commander, Shaak Ti should never have been put in command of a padawan training class much less the Clone Battalion on Kamino, Kit Fisto was a failure as a teacher with his last student failing to understand the jedi role and getting himself killed against Grievous, Eeth Koth was so unskilled he embarrassed himself. Yoda and Mace Windu kept so many secrets its no surprise what happened there. Even Obi Wan's hands weren't clean as he complied with many an order he felt was wrong.
The only Jedi that were on the High Council that seemed to be worth a damn beyond Kenobi were probably Plo Koon, Depa Billaba, and they both died in Order 66...

This is a video discussing certain aspects of the lore of Dooku's light saber, not the physical prop used in real life, which isn't a real light saber..
