GreenBeauty I love amla but like you, I found the paste a MONSTER to wash out of my natural hair. I use it as an ingredient in my henna oil blend mix and in my Ayurvedic hair tea spritz but one of my FAVORITE ways to use it is as a face mask! Just the powder and water and mixed into a paste and left on moist skin until it dries up. Or amla, turmeric powder, a little lemon juice and water then mix into a paste and let sit until it has dried or alma/bentonite clay mix. There are so many options but it’s remarkable how super smooth and super clean it makes my skin feel afterwards. 😍

penne123 I have been getting mine from either my local Indian grocery store or from Amazon but now that I have discovered mehandi.com I’ll be getting my amla from them. I like how have their henna tested at an independent lab to make sure it’s pure and high quality so since I like their henna I’ll use them for other powders also. They sell amla and cassia obovata (what some people call neutral henna even though it’s not the same plant). It not like I’ve had any issues with the local store amla or the ones I’ve gotten from Amazon I just want to do one stop shopping for those herbs.

I mix amla, bhringraj, moringa, brahmi and neem powder with warm tap water then add plain yogurt, conditioner (aussie moist), honey and fav oil mix. I then place the bowl over some hot water and combine everything together properly. I apply to freshly shampooed hair, cover with shower cap or grocery bag then a steam cap for about an hour. Then I rinse off and with all the water still dripping from my hair, I do twists with Dax hair grease mixed with some peppermint oil. The moisture retention is awesome. My hair is thriving after using this for the last 6 months. I deep conditioner every week. I have high porosity 4C hair. Mid week, I re-moisturize with water and grease.

I've started to add Ayurvedic powders into my hair regimen since February 2020. It is great, but I notice with my highly low porous hair, that my hair has become drier. Since Amla and positively the other Ayurvedic powders have more Vitamin C in them, it closes my cuticles too much, so my hair is not absorbing a lot of moisture quickly. I have to admit that I also used too much of the ingredients in my hair mask.
So I'd say for my hair (and perhaps for low porosity hair in general) it's not too beneficial to use it too often as a hair mask. But it is greatly beneficial for me, to use it as an oil. Since I'm using these powders and many more ingredients in my DIY hair growth oils, my hair growth rate is now in beast mode. It grows incredibly fast.

I really appreciate the use of scientific studies-not enough people do that in the beauty industry - but I also want to point out that just because something is natural doesn’t mean that it’s safe. Arsenic is natural, but I wouldn’t recommend an arsenic hair mask. *Sometimes* synthetic ingredients can be beneficial because the cosmetic chemists know how certain substances will react when used. Also- sometimes they need to use synthetic ingredients to stabilize the product and to aid in delivery of the chemicals(natural or synthetic)/ingredients to the hair shaft/skin. Are there amazing benefits associated with using plant and nature based products? Yes. Are there problematic synthetic ingredients? Yes, alcohol, sd alcohol, and alcohol denat(although sometimes it’s okay) are not good to use in the hair. But lavender and lemon juice (as in if you were to open up a lemon and use it for a diy beauty regimen) can also be damaging. And tea tree oil- While it has many benefits- should be used cautiously.
Also- everything is made of chemicals.

You use two scoops of Shea butter, a deep conditioner of your choice, honey, Rosemary Essential oil, hibiscus powder, Amal Powder, and Bamboo Extract. This is a deep conditioner. You mix the ingredients and put it in your hair after shampooing. Let sit for thirty minutes under a steamer or with plastic cap then rinse. I used this every wash day and my hair loves it. I have been using high quality amla oil almost daily for a year and this video CLEARLY explained two things to me.
    1) I have one hair that is white starting about midway point on hair shaft to the tip and the rest is black! This strand was starting to go white and reversed!! I probably have only 2-3 white hairs on my head and I can't find the others to see if the same happened.
    2) My hair has been feeling crunchy and brittle for a while. I suspected the amla oil but wasn't sure. I was blaming everything else. Now I know it's most likely vitamin c overload from the amla. I'm going to cut it out completely and see if my hair feels better.
    Thanks Green Beauty!!

I do not want to put all that oil in my hair so have you ever made they amla mixture for your hair where you black in the amla in a pot or a frying pan and just add hot water and make a paste and let it sit overnight ...?
If so do you shampoo it out with regular shampoo or do you just rinse it out with water and no shampoo ?
Also do you know anyone who has put this on gray hair and it darkened it a little bit in the first try ?

@@kirannathani9123 I did mix some in water and let it sit overnight ... I was going to put it on my hair and leave it in with a shower cap and then that just sat there for several days until it started to get mold in it ...haha ... and now i have no more amla left until i go back to the store .
Only im worried because i know it has iron in it and i don't know if putting iron on the head where it can just soak into the scalp is good ... I know it's iron and its natural form but did hear that it's not a good idea because it's still a metal that will soak into the brain ... last year I heard that scientists are starting to worry about the effects of iron on the brain especially as people get older ... maybe they don't mean naturally occurring iron ... ?
