The wheel covers weren’t ’flying off’. They stopped production due to them rubbing the sidewall causing unnatural wear.

I own a Corvette and Tesla. I'm a Tesla fan but nice to see a review from a non Tesla fan.
The CyberTruck garners attention the way the Volkswagen Thing did. Remember that thing (pun intended)? I didn't think so.
It should be known that when you get a Tesla you set up the app on your phone and it becomes the key. You don't really need to carry or use the card (except as a backup). With the app, you just walk up to the car and drive it, and walk away when you're done and it locks itself. One of my favorite features that doesn't get enough press.
Yup. I love the feature for sure. There are a few other manufacturers doing it now (cell phone as car key) and I can’t wait for more to add it.
I wouldn't leave the key behind. Otherwise battery dying on phone locks you out of vehicle.
@@TroySavary Generally I have the key card in my wallet, as a backup. Though if I'm not too far from home, and don't have my wallet, I don't worry about it. But yeah, if you're far from home and your phone dies and you don't have the key card, it would be bad.
@@anonymousfu I never leave home without my wallet, since that is where my drivers licence is.
An other advantage is that if you lose your phone you just have to download again the app on your new phone (or any phone), while if you lose your keys it costs a lot and you cannot to it without the help of a dealer (so it must be two at huge cost).

I finally saw one of these in person a few days ago getting on a freeway with me. It looked way better in person than I was imagining. When I first saw the design I thought it didn't make sense and wasn't for me, but actually seeing it in person it looks aggressive in a good way, like it "means business"; coincidentally I was reminded of Corvettes because of the elongated, slanting glass (I once owned a C4).
Dude had a negative attitude from the start.
Yeah, I was immediately not pleased with quality. Scratches on a brand new vehicle isn't a great first impression.

Not sure you understood how the steering works. It is steer-by-wire and the main point is to dynamically adapt the steering angle with speed, and yes it needs some training, as for driving a manual transmission if you only know automatic ones. Then you can easily take tight turns without having to make lots of turns of the steering wheel, and you have precise driving at high speed while limiting the risk of a sudden movement causing an accident. It will also allow to use the steering wheel to play without the wheels turning, but that's an other story...

Interesting at best but not practical. Why in the world with all the techKnowledgy today, are the roof and hatchback area not have solar panels on it.
I would also love to see this Tesla compared to the Rivian.
I’m also surprised it does not have an option to sound like a Truck or F-1.
For the solar panels, the main idea is that it is better to have them on the roof of your home, always well exposed to the sun.

Its a truck for the guy who wants the "look" of a truck, and none of its functionality. I hauled a queen size bed over the weekend, Id be interested to see how I would load and secure that in the bed of that thing.

It is less aerodynamic than the Silverado EV. Who would have guessed the sharp angles are not as aero as Tesla claimed it would be.
Th difference on aerodynamics are miniscule, silverado EV is 0.331, CT is 0.34. but both are more aerodynamics than F-150.
It's still way more efficient because the weight difference is huge and Silverado has a 400v drive train and splits the pack to charge at 800v. Tesla does the reverse but can charge at 800v when V4 superchargers become common.
@@syspowertools3372 More effectient? The Cybertruck got 250 mikes on a highway range test. Silverado got almoat 500 miles when TFL truck highway drove it. Nearly double the range with under double the battery. I will wait until more range tests for Silverado come out before I definitively claim Silverado is at least as efficient as Cybertruck, but early indications say so.
Same with towing. Modt towing tests are outting Cybertruck at about 100 miles pulling a trailer. TFL got about 240 miles pulling a trailer with Silverado. But until sombody pulls the same trailer along same route with both, we won't know exactly how much Silverado wins by.

@@HorsePowerObsessed judging quality of a brand from one vehicle which is a new model. Look over every inch. Not just panels. Worked for Toyota for years and they had and still have plenty of problems.
Interior, exterior, the problems I saw were not in just one place, unfortunately. Not all of them were as glaring as the scratches on the exterior panels but the issues were there for sure. This was just my experience. Your mileage may vary.
Normal truck owbers won't be buying this. At least not those of us who do work with our trucks.

I'm a huge Tesla fan and investor, but I'm unimpressed. It is not a truck!, it may be a jeep, or SUV. If it can't tow on the highway, it is not a ruck. I'm 600K in line, but I likely buy a remodeled Model Y. ...neither one will tow, so I'll keep my old F150.

The argument was that if it is strong enough for a rocket (same steel as SpaceX uses) it will be good for people who need a truck for actual work. People who want a SUV with a bed will probably wrap it.
I got to see one this past summer in Vegas. I’m not very impressed I did not get to see the inside though it was locked up for the money there’s a lot better internal combustion engine trucks out there just my two. Cents.
This is kind of where I was coming from as well.
They are probably going to get a lot cheaper over time, Tesla decided to only use one permanent magnet motor for efficiency and induction motors for acceleration so they are using as little rare earths as possible. They really want to make a lot of them.

Yeah this truck isn't a real attention grabbing thing, unfortunately. I knew the Corvette guys especially aren't going to be interested in this but thought it might be appreciated for those who haven't been able to see one in person yet.

The "point" is to fight climate change, I know that in the US it is politics but for the rest of the world it is just geophysics. It means zero CO2 emission cars, so no more ICE cars. And of course there are all the other advantages of EVs : more comfort, no vibration, performances, a "full tank" every morning without having to go to a gas station, the pre-conditioning of the carbine, the incredible efficiency (kW/mile) compared to an ICE car, low maintenance, etc. Of course it is far far better to be able to charge at home, but for a developed country having plugs where cars are parked (eg during nights) does not seams to be a big challenge, especially compared to the threat (and cost) of climate warming. Regarding the "all on the screen" approach, I guess it is a generation issue, I love my smartphone and I would not want to go back to a flip Nokia or a BlackBerry. And there are so many things that take advantage of a large screen, eg the navigation, the rear cameras, the infotainment, the configuration, etc. Regarding the steel, I think the point is the strength, so I guess people who use this truck for work won't mind the aesthetic scratches, and people who use it as a SUV will probably warp the truck. Anyway, as a European I do not understand why anybody would buy a "truck" (ICE or electric) for something else than heavy work, so I understand the durability choice of heavy steel. For most people, an electric sedan is probably the better choice, at least for people who value efficiency and affordability. I drive a Tesla model 3, and even with not so high incomes I bought it cash. For most people expansive cars mean more being a slave (to the bank and/or dealer) rather than the promised freedom. If you prefer wired tools, you are in luck… it’s got a 240v 50A outlet and two 120v outlets in the six foot bed, and a locking cover the keep all your tools from getting stolen.
@@excelrobot until it is winter in Chicago and the 240v 50A outlet and two 120v outlets runs out juice with no where to plug into. But fear not, my 4WD gas guzzling 2012 pickup with 200K miles will be cozy warm as I drive by. I paid 40K in 2012. Pay 100K for a cyber truck today and one has to ask if it will be still on road or in the recycle heap in 12 years. In the end I come out 60K on top without an electrical umbilical cord dangling from under the locking cover. I applaud the effort Tesla is making, I think in the end technology will improve and perhaps there will be a place for it. I would rather see more done with hydrogen, far easier to develop the infrastructure around that than electric. Rather than a pile of old batteries, we just have to deal with water vapor.

And the Cybertruck has 123 kwH of capacity so you'd have to run your 16-amp power tools at 240v for over 30 HOURS before you would run out of battery. Oh, and the batteries are recyclable.
@@excelrobot No not nuclear, just Chicago, you may want to read the news for Jan. 17th 2024, multiple EVs stranded in sub zero weather as chargers fail to work, perhaps that is the "pinch" you speak of. EVs and cold weather don't mix well. But, let's talk endurance. Per Tesla, "...the Cybertruck can tow up to 11,000 pounds and has an estimated driving range of up to 340 miles." The key work is "and" in the sentence. When under load that range drops significantly, and yes while the same is true for gas/diesel it is not near the same. I will put my 12 year old gasser up against the Tesla towing an RV through the mountains in 20 degrees, or hauling construction material in the heat of summer in Texas with AC blasting. At the end of the day, when the LOW Bat indicator shows 5% on the good ole Cyber truck and iPhone while driving the long road in the Yukon, I highly suggest the next call is 911 and pack plenty of blankets unless you are depending upon the batteries spontaneously igniting to keep the driver and occupants warm. @@GenXVette Well, just like if the situation was extreme flooding or hail the size of golf balls, I hope you would be smart enough to take cover, while I wade through 3 feet of water in Wade Mode or enjoy the excitement with my armored glass and 30X hard rolled stainless steel. Regarding range, are you so bad at planning that you find yourself running out of gas all the time just a quarter mile from the nearest gas station? Unless you ignore all the NAV warnings and make zero effort to plan your route, you will be just fine. Now, if I was towing 11,000 pounds through the mountains at 20 degrees on a regular basis, I’d definitely buy a nice F350 SuperDuty over a Cybertruck. But statistically you’d be more likely to find yourself in flames in a gas truck than a Tesla. Of course, anyone finding themself worrying about that in either, probably aren’t man enough to leave the house in extreme weather in the first place. You seem like a smart guy, and not afraid of adventure, so I imagine you are brave enough to get past that paranoia.
