What do you guys think of these 2 cars? It has been a while since they were side by side and I thought I'd answer this question since I get asked all the time which one is my favorite!
I’m not a big guy, 5’ 7” 148 and it’s still not easy getting in and out. I need the door to be open as much as it can go. Then at times, almost any time, there’s a good chance of scuffing that door panel. I think it’s been an issue for any Generation I’ve ever been in or out. C1, C2, C3 1976, C4 1995, C5, C6 2009, C7, & C8 2022 If a year was given, that’s on I’ve owned.
Man that awe w high flow cats sounds insane . Def wins in the sounds department . I went into the video thinking you were gonna say zr1 for sure. Either one u drive tho , man what an experience !
Justin you make great case for both vehicles. Great job pointing out all pros and cons. However I’m bit biased loving the interior of my 2024 convertible Z06 and latest technology. Definitely two great Corvettes.👍👍
I’m selling the C8. The C7 has a smaller cockpit, and I’m 6’2”. The C8 rear end is generic. It doesn’t have the flair of the C7. I do love the mid engine design, the front and the sides. The C8 is a sexy car, until the back. The C7 is sexy all the way around. Great content! Love this channel. Thanks for all the input and work you do to bring all the research to one place. I’ll stick with the C7 M7 Z06 Z07 heavily modified by GPI, and I’ll see you after the race is done at the beer tent, and we’ll talk about how much fun we had!
Great video, great cars! I think a top pro for the ZR1 is the resale value. It's truly the last of its kind. In the same way, a con for the ZR1 is the lack of ability to raise the front end in order to avoid curb damage. You have to be very skilled to get the car into some driveways, etc.
@@HorsePowerObsessed always and without fail I have to come in on an angle and so that makes it hard when I am coming into a parking Andre’s with deep areas between the road way and the parking area. I see them often here in Texas due to the possibility of flooding rains.
at first, I was like C’mon man ZR1 all day long… then you fired up that Z06 . damn!!!! So I get it how it’s very difficult to choose which one but if I had both of those I would always keep ZR1 obv as well. I love first world problems. That’s why we work so hard.!
I think I was one of the first to have asked the question - which do you like more. I'm pretty sure I asked you in writing about a week or two after you had the C8Z. I like your answer and would probably have given the same response. They are both great in their own way!
Thats the best answer, Both. they are both different and both unique. I couldn't pick neither if I had both. They both are beautiful especially in the black which in my opinion is the best for both of these cars. Great video.

You forgot to list a con of both vette. That has to be the color black. They look best if wax and sit at a show car. But get dirty quickly once it’s driven and very hard to keep clean. Plus black get really hot 😅
Without XPEL and ceramic coating I would agree but the way I have my cars done, it’s no harder to maintain than any other color. Anyone who has seen my cars in person will confirm this.
Totally agree Justin. Traded my C7, Z06 manual for the C8 70th SR. Dropped off one, drove away with the other, back to back. Totally different vehicles, both awesome & unique. In a perfect world would have kept both. 😊
Appreciate the comparison of these two cars. I have a 2018 manual Z06 and I’m looking for a ‘24 or maybe order a ‘25 Z06. Definitely will keep my 2018 car. As a manual, with 650 hp, is so much fun. Excited about the new one too.
I think the C7 ZR1 was an important moment for GM to realize what they wanted to do with the Corvette brand going on, I think it helped them realize that they had the ability to build a legit track weapon instead of just focusing on making loud muscle cars. The C7 ZR1 was the turning point that brought Corvette from just big motor small body street cars to thoroughbred race cars
I agree but that doesn't matter if it's a step up or not it's what you like that counts I can afford any of these vehicles I chose the C6 ZO6 because I like the looks and the six-speed manual better than all these cars.
Only around 3,000 ZR1s built and less than that with a manual. C8 Z06 who knows but I say at least 25,000 to 30,000. Manual verse dct auto. Its a no brainer for me. ZZZZzRRRRRRrr1.
I've always been a fan of naturally aspirated power, but the C7 ZR1 can be had with a manual. Those two things are what I've always liked about the Viper: a naturally aspirated engine, no automatic option, and no bullshit. I digress. I am a lifelong Corvette fan and if I had to choose between these two, I would go with the ZR1.
I didn’t know you had still the ZR1. Now that you are in Florida keep me in mind-over the next year i want to get a c7 ZR1 so I’ll be looking. I’m dead serious. Plz keep me in mind I’d like a chance at getting it. It’s my favorite car. I own 3 different Hellcat vehicles right now.

Too bad you didn’t opt for paint with these two cars. The lines disappear with the black primer. They would look fantastic in red, white, best of all blue - and there is yellow- but not black primer.
Yep - my 2025 z06 is the new completion yellow paint, with dual orange full body stripes and orange calipers and the new Habanero burnt orange interior in Alcantara and orange seatbelts. And my current c8 convertible is rapid blue with dipped adrenaline red interior -
I have a 23 ZO6 and enjoy it. However the engine heat that is delivered to the frunk and trunk is troublesome. The factory does not have a fix for the heat. It is hard to keep the ice cream from melting on the drive home from the store.
The Z06 looks so much better than the standard C8. That thing looked aweful. Shows how much a wider and lower stance can change the entire look of a car.
All I needed to hear, was which one was more fun. I always assumed it was the C7. I could care less about metrics - that’s only important in professional race cars. Not sure I could stomach the price on a ZR1, so I think the GS or Z06 makes a ton of sense.
Damn Justin, the AWE setup on your C8 Z06 sounds insane! Some of these differences are interesting as they can only be discovered by owning and modifying both cars (e.g. lowering clearance). I will always love the C7, but each car satisfies separate needs. Edit : I was looking at purchasing a used 2016 manual C7 Z06, but here in Australia 🇦🇺 the asking price is AUD $250,000 + govt. charges! 😱

Which one is more comfortable to drive when it comes to interior room? I would love to own both of them, but I'm a tall guy and I don't fit very well in either of them. The C8 platform was touted as having a huge increase in legroom, but I'm calling bs on that.
I remember seeing the C7 ZR1 for the first time and instantly falling in love. It was my dream car until the C8 Z06 came out. The engine alone on the C8 is why it ranks higher for me. I’ve always wanted an engine that has a flat plane crank sound. Maybe down the line I’ll be able to own both of them like you do. You really have the best Corvettes in your garage. I hope to have what you have one day!
Hey brotha, great video and beautiful vettes😍 Just wanted to share my opinion on the transmission issues. So I believe it is the tuning on the tremec dct. We both share the same transmission, GT500 for me, overall except the extra gear and transaxle design. I do not believe they are weak because we, on the GT500 side, have 200 pounds of more torque and have seen them handle 1100 pounds of torque with no issues. The only major mechanical problem we have is a bad designed connector for the oil cooler line that tends to leak. I daily my GT500 since new and have 15k miles with zero issues. Now maybe the 8th gear could be a problem because the more gears they add, the smaller the gears have to be. But like I said I really think it is tuning. Anyways, I hope you never experience any trans problems and again beautiful vettes. One day I hope to add a c8z to my collection. Used to have a c5z and absolutely loved it. Great video and I hope to see more of both beauties! P.S. we also share the same supercharger🤣 I guess the Shelby has some of the best parts from both c7 and c8 vettes🤣🤣
Love all your videos as always Justin, a lot of your comparisons are things that I hit in a similar video that I did comparing the two generations. In which case I would love your opinion. When it comes to the transmissions the simple fact of the matter is automatics are faster but manuals are more fun, period, end of story. Although I do wish that the c7 came with the TR6060 instead of the TR6070. As far as the DCT goes I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. With the exception of the clutch packs themselves, that transmission itself is actually unbelievably strong and can easily handle four digit numbers. But just like any transmission there are growing pains with it. Yes there have been some problems but the internet always exaggerates things also. Remember when the 8L90 came out and how many problems that had? It was easily rectified with a fluid exchange. I truly believe they will work all of the kinks out for the DCT. Although I do agree and they should have been worked out at this point. And as far as your headlights on the c7 goes, you know that there is a way to convert them (easily) to LED right? My buddy has a c7 and we park at the mall. The c8 gets the most attention. I can’t go nowhere without people stopping me. 😂😂😂😂. I have the convertible 3lt with the carbon fiber.
Driving a car with a short front end feels like you are driving a bus.........got rid of my porsche 911 because of it and got a c7 Z06......could not be happier.
Shame you never addressed what was listed in your video title but I think I know why. I don't have the funds or the garage to match your lineup but I do own a few. I dumped my C8 back in 2022 for a couple of C6's, a 2010 GS Convertible and a 2009 Z06. When it comes to Corvettes I feel the topic of interior is null and void, if "Interior" quality and comfort is a discussion point that I feel nothing at the price point can come close to a Lexus LC500. Favorite car? when one is fortunate enough to own several, I would say a favorite really depends on the driving scenario. Weekend, top-down duty with wife, The GS of course. HPDE and track days, the C6 Z06 wins hands down, even over the C8 I used to own. Daily driving and long road trips, the LC500 always. Have to mention my F250 SP, without her, boat and RV don't go anywhere. ;)
They don't have upgraded clutches you can buy? My Rs3 has dct 1300HD clutches and can handle 1300hp with just a tune and the upgraded clutches using the stock gear set which is almost unheard of. It is a benefit factor to also know how to set the ecu properly to ease off the power slightly during shifts through proper tuning otherwise i'm sure I could get a few runs in and if i'm lucky not break a gear without having the brain cut power slightly during shifts. Roll racing and normal driving though the DQ500 has been a very solid DCT proven to be very strong from factory. What is the issue with your C8? I'm sure this can be fixed as it is probably the mechatronics having issues or tcu software issue.. That is a problem with some DQ250 owners out there. I hate the DQ250 over my Rs3's DQ500.
The C8 is infinitely better for tall people. I'm 6'5" and can wear a helmet in the C8 while at the track. I can't fit in a C7 even without a helmet. Moving the engine to the back gave a lot more room in the foot well for tall people.
I will have a c8zo6. And driven both at the track. The zo6 is far superior period. Lap after lap the c8zo6 ran faster. Zo6 is a track weapon. My buddy sold his zr1 and just bought the zo6.
That is true - each to his own… but black hides the lines of the car and black interior in a small car is claustrophobic. All my own opinion. Very hard to see what the zr1 really looks like in this video.
C8Z looks sexy, the sound kills it for me though. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds good. Just not a sound I’d expect or want from a Corvette. I think even the OHC LT5 on the C4 ZR1 sounds better to me. Then again, just stating my opinion for shits and giggles since this video is for public view. Not that I can afford either! 😂. 2 sweet rides at the end of the day!
Sorry HPO but that’s not really true. Much like your vid the right conclusion is they are just different - each with strengths and weaknesses. I’d remind you that as of now the OEM 1st and 2nd place fastest Nurburgring times are the Mercedes AMG black (front engine) and the Porsche GT3 RS (actual rear engine as in past the rear axel). You don’t find mid rear like the z06 till 3rd in the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. Thems the facts my friend. Also how many GTLM titles did that front engine C7r win against all those mid and rear engine competitors…? Data don’t lie. Stick with your OG assertion. They are different as that’s the reality.

obviously, its the higher trim, and the c8 zr1 will be rarer still, and feature twin turbos

Just checked our alignment specs for c8z z07 track and non track caster specs. 8 degrees for both

That is definitely an issue. I'm surprised they let it get that bad. It was an issue on the Stingray too, but not as much.

Honestly, the C7 has more leg/head room.

The c8 z06 is definitely the first corvette since the c7 ZR1 that really caught my eye!
FPCs sound great but there is just something about an old school pushrod V8 with that classic muscle car sound that makes me prefer it more
HPO, I see you changed to the factory X brace for the Z06. What was wrong with the tubular one?? (I remember you said it was stiffer than factory)

Love all your videos as always Justin, a lot of your comparisons are things that I hit in a similar video that I did comparing the two generations. In which case I would love your opinion. When it comes to the transmissions the simple fact of the matter is automatics are faster but manuals are more fun, period, end of story. Although I do wish that the c7 came with the TR6060 instead of the TR6070. As far as the DCT goes I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. With the exception of the clutch packs themselves, that transmission itself is actually unbelievably strong and can easily handle four digit numbers. But just like any transmission there are growing pains with it. Yes there have been some problems but the internet always exaggerates things also. Remember when the 8L90 came out and how many problems that had? It was easily rectified with a fluid exchange. I truly believe they will work all of the kinks out for the DCT. Although I do agree and they should have been worked out at this point.
And as far as your headlights on the c7 goes, you know that there is a way to convert them (easily) to LED right? I did it on mine and here is a link for you to be able to do it with yours.

My buddy has a c7 and we park at the mall. The c8 gets the most attention. I can’t go nowhere without people stopping me. 😂😂😂😂. I have the convertible 3lt with the carbon fiber.

The torque is definitely more evident in the ZR1.

Driving a car with a short front end feels like you are driving a bus.........got rid of my porsche 911 because of it and got a c7 Z06......could not be happier.
As much as I love 755 Supercharged Horsepower I will take the C8 Z06...
Shame you never addressed what was listed in your video title but I think I know why. I don't have the funds or the garage to match your lineup but I do own a few. I dumped my C8 back in 2022 for a couple of C6's, a 2010 GS Convertible and a 2009 Z06. When it comes to Corvettes I feel the topic of interior is null and void, if "Interior" quality and comfort is a discussion point that I feel nothing at the price point can come close to a Lexus LC500. Favorite car? when one is fortunate enough to own several, I would say a favorite really depends on the driving scenario. Weekend, top-down duty with wife, The GS of course. HPDE and track days, the C6 Z06 wins hands down, even over the C8 I used to own. Daily driving and long road trips, the LC500 always. Have to mention my F250 SP, without her, boat and RV don't go anywhere. ;)

Yes. Front end lift can still be used while lowered.
C7 ZR1 Corvette manual does not have to out shift any dual clutch transmission to out preform it

I disagree. The C7 interior is already pretty good. The C8 is better for sure but not by leaps and bounds.
They don't have upgraded clutches you can buy? My Rs3 has dct 1300HD clutches and can handle 1300hp with just a tune and the upgraded clutches using the stock gear set which is almost unheard of. It is a benefit factor to also know how to set the ecu properly to ease off the power slightly during shifts through proper tuning otherwise i'm sure I could get a few runs in and if i'm lucky not break a gear without having the brain cut power slightly during shifts. Roll racing and normal driving though the DQ500 has been a very solid DCT proven to be very strong from factory. What is the issue with your C8? I'm sure this can be fixed as it is probably the mechatronics having issues or tcu software issue.. That is a problem with some DQ250 owners out there. I hate the DQ250 over my Rs3's DQ500.

The C8 is infinitely better for tall people. I'm 6'5" and can wear a helmet in the C8 while at the track. I can't fit in a C7 even without a helmet. Moving the engine to the back gave a lot more room in the foot well for tall people.
I will have a c8zo6. And driven both at the track. The zo6 is far superior period. Lap after lap the c8zo6 ran faster. Zo6 is a track weapon. My buddy sold his zr1 and just bought the zo6.
That is true - each to his own… but black hides the lines of the car and black interior in a small car is claustrophobic. All my own opinion. Very hard to see what the zr1 really looks like in this video.
To each their own for sure because I have absolutely no trouble at all seeing the details of the car nor the interior 🤷♂️
C8Z looks sexy, the sound kills it for me though. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds good. Just not a sound I’d expect or want from a Corvette. I think even the OHC LT5 on the C4 ZR1 sounds better to me. Then again, just stating my opinion for shits and giggles since this video is for public view. Not that I can afford either! 😂. 2 sweet rides at the end of the day!

I just read that but believe it or not in person it does not look that way. The ZR1 looks considerably wider… weird.

Sorry HPO but that’s not really true. Much like your vid the right conclusion is they are just different - each with strengths and weaknesses. I’d remind you that as of now the OEM 1st and 2nd place fastest Nurburgring times are the Mercedes AMG black (front engine) and the Porsche GT3 RS (actual rear engine as in past the rear axel). You don’t find mid rear like the z06 till 3rd in the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. Thems the facts my friend. Also how many GTLM titles did that front engine C7r win against all those mid and rear engine competitors…?
