I learned how to sew in Junior High School on a Singer Knee pedal in the early 1960s. In the early 1970s was the last time I sewed & that was on a foot pedal Singer that I hated. At that time, Singer told me the knee pedal machines were only sold to schools - not to me . I had a very heavy foot and foot pedal was awful for me. To me a kneee pedal gave me much more contol and I could go as slow or fast as I wanted. I am now in my 70s and thinking of sewing again and I am SO glad that I can buy a knee pedal sewing machine. ! PS I never wore high high heels & don't wear them now. And I liked the feel of the pedal on my knee. Thank you for this video.
The slant sewing machines were made specifically for schools at that time as well. They thought that being able to see the needle would make it easier to learn to sew but I guess people say it didn’t really make a difference.
Thank you SaritaV Pinup I rescued a Penncrest sewing Machine I had no idea how did it function with a foot or knee pedal. I look all available about this machine with out success. I know this is better than the new Chinese machines sold today . So, I am so happy that I found your video . Know I know the switch had one part not getting electricity and switches sold commonly did not work as the one you show . Thank you so much . I will write you about the results in this old machine , just because it has not been working for years. 🎺
My legs are partially paralyzed, but on one side I can move me knee outwards. Between knee pedals and start stop buttons that’s the only way I can machine sew!
THANK YOU! I inherited my husbands great-grandmothers machine and I just can’t get the hang of the knee pedal, have been wondering for awhile if this is doable and now I can try it out!
I had my ankle permanently fused so it doesn't move I have been looking for a way to convert all my sewing machines into the knee pedal .I have an old cabinet with the knee pedal build in and my husband cut one of my cords off and wired to the knee pedal but now I have a new machine and if I cut the cord I can't bring my machine inside to sew without bringing the whole cabinet inside bc my sewing room is outside in an adjacent building..anyway just thought I'd give you a pro for the reason I love a knee pedal..have a blessed day and thanks for sharing
i come from foot pedals and use an industrial machine for my auto upholstery work....and LOVE the knee lift for the foot! So I picked up some older macbines in a cabinet and want to give the option to the future owner to either use the knee pedal OR the foot pedal...but wasn't sure of this is something I should let the buyer do on their own? As I'm already needing to replace the old wire....
Personally i am a near 6 ft tall gal and i think the knee pedal would make me feel too confined...those vintage sewin tables look so narrow and too short...esp. when with drawers too. I could use the knee pedal but my legs are so long that i would be further away from the machine working area than other users...but then again i have long arms too. Idk ive only used a foot pedal so im prob just being silly...this video was fun- i liked hearing ur theories!
I took the knee pedal controller out of a singer portable case. This is because I took a look inside and frankly it's a death trap. Mains electric on moving parts, less than a mm from the ungrounded metal case with a direct metal path to your knee.
I have four machines that I use pretty regularly. Two are knee control and two are foot control. If everything is working right, there should be no functional difference between the two and any difference should come down to personal preference. I like knee controllers. I can use a foot pedal but given the choice it's knee all day for me.
As soon as you mentioned women sewing in heels in the 50s and 60s, I knew you had short legs!. Back then the only women that wore heels for household chores were on TV and in the movies - except for the odd woman "putting on airs."😉 I have long legs so knee controllers are my favorite. The reason for knee controllers is because you don't have to chase the pedal around the floor and that it is less tiring. I suspect you would like a knee controller were it positioned properly. The older pedals weten't as easy to control speed wise as the new electronic pedals. I've ordered one, like the one you purchased and I'm trying to work out which of the old singer knee controllers will hold a new electronic controller. I always sew barefooted or with sox. The only time I've ever worn nylons while sewing was if I was dressing for work and my favorite sweater had a seam split again. (It must have had 7 different colors of thread holding it together.) Thank you for the video. I think I need to look for a Touch and Sew knee controller. You've helped me narrow down the choices.
hello absolutely beautiful video how do you keep the sewing machine electric foot pedal in place if it slips or slides around? please kindly let me know OK?thank you very much
I was going to say the same thing. It looks like you can just dismount the original controller and put it on the floor and use it just fine. The one on my machine is very different, so I'm thinking of mounting it on a different spot that allows me to use a linkage that goes to the floor so I can use it like a foot controller.
It's been a long time now, but if I remember correctly the knee lever pedal was pressed using the leg/thigh immediately above the knee, rather than the actual knee./bone. 🤔

Thank you so much for sharing! Good luck trying to figure out the cord thing!

I was raused in an old white with a knee bwr. It is much easier to contro the speed than foot pedals.

Thanks a lot for the video. Now, I know how to switch my knee pedal to foot pedal

Beautiful vintage Sewing Machine 💕Glenn
Thanks for watching! Love sharing it with others!
SaritaV Pinup and Foot pedal much easier ?
Thanks
Nice vid.. make more vids showing the foot pedal.
The knee pedal is also a foot pedal all you needed to do is put it on the foot and swing the lever to the other position

I absolutely hate knee control pedals.. I am way too short and have to turn my chair to reach the darn thing.
I feel like using the knee pad is safer cause there’s less chance of injury due to forgetting to take the foot off the pedal.
hello I just subscribed to your channel, please, a video where you press the pedal with your bare feet please :)
🤣🤣🤣 Don't tempt me! I'll even make a series of me sewing over horizontally-placed straight pins with my machine, and not wearing glasses! 😉
@@SaritaV come on please it costs you nothing, the time you press the pedal of the sewing machine with your bare feet. please :)
@SaritaV hahaha I think that's a better idea than the exposed foot....only bc of comments like this
